CareerRe: Why I Left Banking For Dangote Truck Drivers Job by Curiouscity(m): 3:38pm On Nov 12, 2012
I still find it hard to believe that only graduates in Nigeria can be responsible truck drivers.
Why is the emphasis on graduates and not on people with sane mind? Can't a secondary school leaver
be trained in this institute to be a responsible truck driver who value other road users?

I weep for Nigeria!!!

Justosaus: Anachronism! Socrates died long before the internet. Its like saying you saw a picture of George Washington with a blackberry...
slap1: Socrates? DID HE WITNESS THE INTERNET?
The guy said "socretes"(whoever that maybe), NOT SOCRATES that we all read of.
BTW that statement is very true, but maybe he should just say it and for forget quoting the author
if he's not sure.
FamilyRe: Are Nigerian Men Taking-Up More Domestic Responsibilities In The Home? by Curiouscity(m):
I have only read the 1st page and will create time to finish this responsible thread.
The responses are cute, heartwarming and educative. Though living apart with my sweetheart,
I am proud of what most of my friends are doing in their homes. Last Sunday, I hosted a
friend with his daughter and U could see the love they share because my guy practically
baby-sit whenever he is not at work.

It is only some few guys living in Nigeria and still beclouded by the old-school style of
"manliness" that don't see the joy and fun of sharing chores with the wife. After my last
visit to my baby, she knows that whenever coconut rice is cooked, I blow the final whistle smiley

I salute the ladies here for saying positive things about their men.
Science/TechnologyRe: Nigerian Girls Invent Urine-powered Generator by Curiouscity(m): 7:59pm On Nov 08, 2012
Nice Invention!!! Like someone said, the teachers are using these students as fronts.
All the same, it's nice that these young minds are tuned towards these types of ideas.

On a second note, will our corrupt leaders/businessmen think of commercializing this?
I recall in 1991(The days of JETS exhibition), a school produce something similar
from organic electrolytes(wild grapes and other plants). After that exhibition in Ibadan
the then minister of science and tech asked the boys who produced it to see her in Abuja.
That was the end of that invention as nothing useful came out of that meeting.

I wish someone will think of commercializing this product or do more research on the pros/cons of
such product in the society.
CrimeRe: Three Arrested For Lynching Suspected Robbers In Lagos by Curiouscity(m): 9:47pm On Nov 07, 2012
ddim22: Nobody should compare this to what happened it ALUU.Those students were innocent men that were lynched for a crime they did not commit. But armed robbers are demonic being, they should not be spared at all.Anybody caught redhanded in armed robbery should be killed immediately to deter others.Mind you, there is a difference between armed robbery and ordinary stealing.Though both of them are thieves but the former is dangerous and a threat to peoples life.So if you catch a thief and he or they are not armed with gun or knife or machete, you can beat him a little then take him to the police. But when a thief is caught with gun or knife or machete or any other dangerous weapon, that thief must be killed immediately before the police comes.
Did U read your post after typinghuh

So now jungle justice has categories? This type of hypocrisy and denial is taking us backward!!
I bet U didn't follow all the versions of the story that emanated from the ALUU incidence. So,
you now justify this one because it maybe close to where U live or unknown persons.

We should all condemn jungle justice no matter who commits it. At the same time, we should advocate
for a proactive policing and functional/uncorrupted judiciary.
PoliticsRe: Akpabio And Amaechi Controversial New Jets by Curiouscity(m): 5:54pm On Nov 07, 2012
ayinisong: Is not hatred for your information. Let the truth be told. They are questions to be answered as far as the history of the state is concerned. I know many people here think I have something personal against him. Capital No. I dislike injustice and corruption. Same goes to all the corrupt governors we hav in the country.
What are those questions concerning the history of the state?

I don't like any Nigerian politician including former friends who saw politics as a profession. But,
most at times we analyze cases with shades of glasses that fit our motives. I know U understand what I
mean. We need to be objective!! Two people are fighting for power and all we do is blame one person.

U may have your reasons, but are those reasons to help us grow? Or to further divide us as a people?
We all blame the present governor, but I blame all the state executive and the state legislatures who
are from our villages, towns and LGA's. All they do is amass wealth to themselves while closing eyes
to what the man at helm of affairs is doing.
In terms of infrastructural development, I blame the governor and his executive in the areas he has not done.
But, in terms of security of lives and properties, I blame him and his former friend(now turned opposition).
My girlfriend lived Udoedehe's BQ in 2007(as a corper), I knew what went on in 2007 election. 2 of
them know each other well. So, they should bury their differences and give us peace!!

Can U please raise those questions concerning the history of the State?
CrimeRe: Three Arrested For Lynching Suspected Robbers In Lagos by Curiouscity(m): 5:26pm On Nov 07, 2012
Where are the internet activists that called for the annihilation of ALUU?
When someone tried to say that such wicked act is not unique to ALUU alone,
but a common re-occurrence in the Nigerian society we all called for his/her head.

The truth is we really need to search ourselves to know what/how we've contributed
to the breakdown of law n order in our nation. Jungle justice should not have any
place in our nation. But has legal justice been able to prosecute and punish
criminals appropriately? How about the police taking extra-judicial killing as
their trade-mark. If the police can kill without trial, why not the citizen?

Jungle justice is bad we must all stand up against it no matter who commits it
including Lagosians, Aluu, the Police or my Village!!!
PoliticsRe: Akpabio And Amaechi Controversial New Jets by Curiouscity(m): 4:01pm On Nov 07, 2012
ayinisong: Okay, please answer the following questions: why do we have ethnic politics in the state today, tribalism in government, corruption, cultism, kidnapping on the increase specially targeted towards the political class. Why did he want to kidnapped Udoedehe's wife, (ACN Candidate's wife in 2011 election), Where is Iniekong Udonwa today,(PDP govenorship aspirant), why was his mother kidnapped and killed just because his son wanted to run for governorship, why was Sam Ewang's wife (ANPP candidate's wife) kidnapped and abused. Why did he order boys to attack Udoedehe and his campaign team in Ikot Ekpene, Ini and Ikono? Where is Paul Inyang, Ekpenyong brothers, chief ononokpono, charles umanah etc? Just funny how some of you don't reason.
Da Owo, while I agree with U that our governors don't need private jets, they should rather make the aviation industry upto standard, these allegations U just posted here are unfounded. True, they all happened in Akpabio's regime, but not necessarily caused by him. We all owe our great state a duty.
What did Akpabio do wrong when he was stoned with pure-water in Uyo township stadium 2weeks after his swearing-in in 2007?
The hatred for this man started right after his election in 2007.
The insecurity in the state didn't start with him, I blame all the political class including the opposition. Are the boys Udoedehe used to win election for Akpabio in 2007 dead? Most of them are still loyal to Udoedehe. So 2 of them who were once close friends should be blamed, not one person. Afterall, the opposition can do anything to attract sympathy.

IMO, private jet is unnecessary and wasteful. But your accusations quoted stems out of hatred.
Lets be objective in our criticism if we must grow as a state.

Nice piece of writing. Her suggestion of continuous self development is applicable to all classes of degrees if U must stand out.
Our university system promotes copy-cats, quote and pass. U meet someone with even 2-1 who can quote all the theories in his field
but does not see how it is applied to real life.
Nigerians have enslave themselves with the mentality of paper qualification. Must everyone be a graduate to have a gainful employment?
Our government should re-design our system to recognize skill learned in a non-formal(out of school) settings.

Finally, some students who have the capability to get higher grades should work hard and stay focus. More than 50% of those who had 3rd
class or pass would have done better if they had define their priorities.
Jokes EtcRe: Telephone Conversation Between A Man In Hurricane Ravaged New York & A Lagosian by Curiouscity(m): 7:18pm On Nov 04, 2012
pretty_boi: We keep wondering & keep admiring how these people are so efficient in performing their duties & how organized their country/countries are, well it isn't magic. Nigeria can even be better but it starts with you & me doing every one of our jobs passionately & putting country first. If you're a policeman,a cleaner,a dog breeder,a politician,an architect,a driver,a fireman,a scientist,a maid,a doctor a nurse,a soldier,a musician or anything you are,do your work passionately & strive to stand out & it would go round & everyone would be happy at Nigeria's efficiency rate & development. But for now what do we have? A doctor who doesn't do his/her job passionately expecting a president who would be passionate & turn the country around, a driver who doesn't obey traffic laws hoping to get the best health services from that doctor when he himself doesn't do his own work well,a footballer who doesn't put in his best to play for his country would still expect a fireman to do his job selflessly & douse the fire that's burning his home,A Pastor/Imam who preaches that people of a faith different from his are "unbelievers" & "infidels" & that "faithful people" should not associate with such people would still be expecting a peaceful country. Nigeria is all we (it's people) have made it so if Nigeria is a failure,it's because that's what we have chosen to be & if we desire to see a better Nigeria the key/power's also in our hands.

Young lady,I wish U can read my post again. I won't explain it, but will beg U to read again.
I cited the 2007 stoning with pure water sachet to show that the governor was hated before he
even started any project, yet U still call me hater?

The problem is English is not our mother's tongue. Even our Ibibio/Anaang is difficult to understand to some people

You must be the governor's tribesman or political associate to make such a comment Or could that be the truth?

Note, the hatred towards this man started immediately after his 1st election in 2007. He was stoned with pure water sachet few weeks after swearing in.
So nothing you'll preach now will make the hatred change. The man's style of governance(+ve or -ve) is not even helping to reduce the hatred towards him.
FamilyRe: Children And Their Parent's unclothedness by Curiouscity(m): 3:00am On Nov 01, 2012
MOBBDEEP: I just don't fathom it! Why a lot of people don't only lack diplomacy, but they in addition pack caustic tongue join. We can't share the same view on a controversial issues like this. But then, there are refined ways of contributing your opinion or view. Even if the OP was outright wrong, politeness&courtesy still demands not being derisive. I get pissed frequently seeing people passing very damaging remarks on people as if they are talking to robots with no psyche. Aha!!!

Where are the psychologist in the house, especially the child specialist ?

@ Idi-Amin(I guess your username/ID is even giving some people an eerie feeling), we can't say you are wrong or right. Here are the facts :
A lot of what culture & norms imbibe on us are just baseless & without reason e.g not using your hand to touch rain, pregnant woman attaching/fastening pin to their cloth before going out in the day etc
Hence this culture (of children not seeing their elderly's nudity) in some tribes, at least I know of Igbo, may be without reason.

A point of digression, if not for Adam & Eve in the Biblical Adamite Creation story, I guess all of us will be naked by now. Hence, you can simply say clothing is a fallout of man's original transgression with no sexual tone to it.
Which is why the name 'Pudenda' which is used for private part has its root word to mean 'shame' - which refers us back to the feeling Adam & Eve felt in the garden. There's no more to it than that.
Any where the issues concerning nudity are cited, people usually get uncomfortable & most of what you get are negative feedbacks & comments. This is pure emotions & instintive feeling which may not have any justifiable reason.
If I get you right, we are trying to weigh the effect/influence of this behaviour on your children. Are there any negative(or positive) on the children.
NO!

1. There is what we call imprinting. Those children will naturally grow without even taking into cognizance that 'something' is unusual/funny/out of place/strange. A normal child is just going to accept it as normal thing.
For the contributors who are of the opinion that the effect will be gender-based (no problem with male child but he stopped because of the female children), it is far from the truth. There is no marked difference between a boy-child & girl-child except for the physical trait & some trace cognitive functions. As a matter of fact, you can raise a girl to behave like a man & vice-versa.
In fact, studies have shown that a parent is more likely to raise unusual curiosity in children when you are TOO OVERTLY conscious of your nudity. ( How many of the smartalecs in the house can testify to that remembering asking our young curious minds question on why mum & dad are locking themselves in?)

But then, that is where it ends.
I do know that in this setting, it is easier for the ugliness in an abusive/irresponsible/unstable parent to rear its head.
Equally, since it is becoming a sort of rigmarole between you & your wife ( and I assume in this scenario, it should be easier for you to bend/adjust to her voice than for her to change), for the sake of mutual peace & love, you should try to adjust. Not necessarily because you are doing a bad thing, but because you want peace to reign.
Hope I won't get insulted!
Most civil and matured response so far.

kokoye: The man resigned before they could impeach him...

"The Deputy governor, who has beaten the members of the State House of Assembly who had perfected plans to impeach him, announced his resignation about 6 p.m. Wednesday 31st October, 2012, after news of the moves to impeach him was confirmed by a reliable source."

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/10/akwa-ibo/
If this true, then it means the governor is likely to know about the moves in the house.
This seems to be a ritual in Akwa Ibom State. In 2004 or so a deputy was asked to pick
between impeachment or resignation, he picked the later. The truth will soon come out
or the rumor machines and conspiracy theorists will start work!!
NYSCRe: Should NYSC Stop Including Phone Numbers Of Corpers In The Year book? by Curiouscity(m): 5:00pm On Oct 30, 2012

So you prefer corp members to provide fake phone numbers rather than the authorities
to do the right thing and seek consent before publishing people's personal info?
If you are a graduate, then I am sure you'll do everything to see Nigeria remain
the way it is or become worse.
This year book is of little or no value except to enrich the state directors and others who
are involved in publishing such and selling at very exorbitant price to the out-going corp members.
As such, some states use any available info you provided them at the time of registration.

ba7man: Its quite sad a lot of people will avoid this thread. If it was about ethnic bashing, it would have gotten up to 20 pages by now. Thumbs up to everyone that at least opened it to read or dropped a point here.
Greater % of Nigerians don't know how to do anything that will benefit others. Volunteering is alien to most people here.
All we know is criticize the government, without offering suggestions. We see each other as the source of our predicament.
Hence, the none participation of many on this thread.

A poor person blames his poverty on the rich/elites(tho this maybe true in the case of today's political class), while the
rich blame the poor for being lazy.

We need to contribute our quota to see the change we demand to see, after all, whoever will be in government tomorrow will
from among us. Our government is a reflection of who we are as a nation!!

Very nice thread!!
Some good and inspiring goals, some too high/unrealistic.

Short Term Goals: Do some projects in my former primary/secondary schools.
Go around most local schools to inspire kids and volunteer on a monthly basis.

Long Term: a) Revive the concept of 'Dignity of Labour' by pulling together skills(welders, carpenters, artisans) into
a big company. I provide the machinery while they use their skills to earn a living.

Any sick man who does not acknowledge his sickness is far away from cure/healing, and that is what we Nigerians are(most of us).
We hate to face the truth. We take as insult any iota of truth projected to us about who we are, as individuals and and as a KUNTry.
This is sickening especially when this attitude comes from the youths who calling for a change in status-quo. It makes me feel we
are not serious.

No country or culture has it all, but why can't we learn from the positive sides of the country mentioned in the article?
Why don't we ask ourselves what we can do to add value to human life, industries and technology and stop being hypocritical
about being religious or comparing how other countries are worse than us.
If you want to grow, do U compare yourself with people below you? How many Nigerian companies are buying out other countries' companies?(Indians now own Airtel)
How many Nigerian companies are doing govt contracts in other countries?

Hypocritical religion, sycophancy, tribalism, nepotism, bigotry and mediocrity has blinded most of us.
We better stop asking for change for we are the change we demand to see!!

Nigerians amaze me every time. We are here recommending/condemning someones culture even when it is clear what it stands for.
Most of us who finds nothing wrong in children carrying Halloween costumes will not even allow their kids to go out
and watch any African/Nigerian masquerade. Attempts to even carry the masquerade will be punish in church and family alike.

Hmmm, why most things done in foreign land generate more interest that ours? What is the difference between this scary outfits and
our own masquerades which the white man demonized?

The type of entrepreneur described above in mostly found in Nigeria. Like someone said, an entrepreneur is different from a Biz owner.
An entrepreneur that goes to work last and be the 1st to leave is digging his grave.
What drives entrepreneurship is loving what U do. If U love what U do, then U can
even sleep in ur office knowing that whatever U invest in terms of time is yours.

There is freedom as an entrepreneur, but we can't all be entrepreneurs. We need each other.
More so, stand alone entrepreneur is setting Nigeria backward. We should think of economic of

Like @Okija_juju wrote earlier, how is this action different from the jungle justice meted to Uniport students?

People saying that flogging should be stopped in schools, I wish they can take up teaching appointment in Nigeria just for

Christianity EtcRe: Why Do Married Folk See A Pastor For Every Little Disagreement? by Curiouscity(m): 12:55am On Oct 12, 2012
AjanleKoko: That's a fallacy.
People meet with pastors and imams in Nigeria because there is no secular counseling setup to speak of. Counselling occurs only within the religious orbit.
I don't think the so-called lack of communication skills have much to do with it. Couples in the developed world visit therapists as well. Are they also communication-challenged?
You have a point about Nigeria lacking therapists, but proper communication skills would reduce most of the frictions. So @Obowunmi was not fallacious.
Look at this forum, you'll notice that an average Nigerian does not know what discussion means. We are too emotional, quick to draw conclusion and blame others.
When last did you have a debate with your friends without it turning to some form of shouting? Communication is not all about writing or talking.
Yes!, most couples in the western world have communication issues too.
