@Nuzo. . .

nuzo:
2. Pray, tell us how yaradua is part of the cause of this fracas? Or, have your claims all been based on assumptions or based on the fact that he came to ekiti to campaign for his party?

Obviously, Yaradua need not physically be in Ekiti to influence anything. His proxies (including PDP elements and their hangers-on) are sufficient and in that case, would you think because he was not physically there, he couldn't have anything to do with it? Well, some people are not easily swayed by the more-you-look-the-less-you-see tactics playing out regarding this election.

3. Why then did she take off in the first place when from your assumptions, she has and is still working for yaradua? Doesnt that suggest to you that it might not be PDP who are actually threatening her?

I have not, in any of my posts, indicated WHO is responsible for whatever threats she might be under. . .and I am sure whoever is behind it would not announce to you, me or the public they are responsible. . .but what is important to note from all this is that we (Nigeria) could not conduct an election successfully for just one state. . .of maybe a million (or two) people.

I might not reply again since you dont want to come up with something reliable.

This, I believe, is a conversation - you advance your viewpoints and I advance mine. . .on the long run everyone will have to form an opinion based on their convictions. . .whether or not to buy the BS on sale by all these mago-mago that has come to characterize Nigerian elections.

@ Nuzo. . .

1. This is an open and on-going discussion. . .I have made NO CONCLUSIONS.

2. From my post, I mentioned 'proxies' of PDP. . .and AC (check my posts). . .point is: there are problems which we see regarding this election. If you require evidence to prove that Yaradua's (and indeed the government - federal and PDP states) campaign and support for their candidate did not have anything to do with this fracas, I have none to give you either. So, you imagine that in Nigeria (and even elsewhere) evidence is carefully preserved by the accused to be used against him? Is it not a fact that even in the face of hard evidence, an accused will deny any of evidence?

3. Yes, like you suggested, we can wait to hear from the woman. . .but if anyone thinks the piper will turn on his/her sponsor, let's wait and see.

@nuzo. . .

1. Yaradua, as it is, cannot and is not neutral - he belongs to a party and he wants to win by all means. However, as President he ought to put the country first whether or not his party wins / loses. We know that putting country first is something beyond our present crop of leaders otherwise, Nigeria wouldn't be where it is now. The group of countries Yaradua dreams Nigeria should join in 2020 put their country first. . .setting the example for leadership at all other levels and for the followership. How well he has done this can be judged from how much you and I (and Nigerians) have learned from his examples.

2. I have neither said nor suggested that the other parties (AC, and their proxies) are exempt (read my post, it is there too mentioned explicitly).

3. INEC is supposed to the the truly NEUTRAL body that should conduct elections without deference to anyone including the president. How 'independent' they are is left to everyone's individual judgment.

Politics › Re: I Did Not Resign, I Am Still In The Inec Family - Mrs Adebayo Ayoka by CyberG: 9:25pm On Apr 29, 2009
@Porka. . .I think that was a rhetorical question.

If you read my post. . .or you are aware that the people who make up the 'government' (referred to as 'government' in my post), campaigned in Ekiti in the run-up to the elections, then that would answer your question.
Politics › Re: I Did Not Resign, I Am Still In The Inec Family - Mrs Adebayo Ayoka by CyberG: 8:57pm On Apr 29, 2009
@ last post - Kobojunkie:

The important point I was making is the 'government' cannot force her to reveal anything because who is the 'government' in the first place? Essentially, the people in power - PDP - or what other government are we talking about here? How can you ask that she give names when she was appointed by a system (government) that expects her to deliver the goods to them home and dry?

Unfortunately, this is Nigeria where the truth died a long long time ago and if there are any of it's siblings surviving. . .they're on life support. The woman cannot name any names because we know that Yaradua, Jonathan, Bankole, Oyinlola, etc all went to campaign in Ekiti to support a candidate. . .this already suggests the 'government' as referred to here is NOT NEUTRAL. So, where do you think the 'pressure' is coming from? Well, if you wish to get real names, I have no idea how long you may wait (maybe forever) but one thing is the proxies of PDP, the 'government', are behind the 'pressure' as claimed by the lady.

The 'government' appoints INEC Chairman and it's officials, who do you think they will be loyal to in a "paddy-paddy", corruption-infested country where everyone is out to feather their own nest? Does anyone need to be told that after the charade of the 2007 elections that was conducted by INEC, the only reason that Iwu remains is because the 'government' is comfortable that future elections conducted by him are already 'in-the-bag'? This INEC is already 'bought' (from the top) and waiting for it's officials at any level to go against the government is waiting in vain. Are you not aware that the electoral reform panel (Justice Uwais) proposed that INEC officials cease to be appointed by the President ("government"wink and Yara has insisted he MUST make the appointments?

Kobojunkie:
I really hope the government forces her to reveal what transpired. Cause I can not wait 15 years to learn this one ooo!!
If anyone is deluded about the 'government' doing anything in total fairness and interest of Nigeria, and Nigerians, regarding this Ekiti election. . .such must be delusional. So, how can a government that 'stole' itself into power, that knows it is NOT accountable to the people (they are in government not because of people's legitimate votes) and is on a mission to enthrone another 'wuru-wuru' government in Ekiti 'reveal what transpired'? Haven't you guys heard that 'there is something behind the masquerade (oro) that makes it sing (ke)'??

So after all the behind-the-scene horse-trading and do-or-die antics preceding the elections, mostly orchestrated by the PDP (not ignoring the possibility that other parties too have their own rigging strategies too), someone expects the 'government' to reveal themselves?? Well, let's wait and see!

Can you imagine being a 'captive' in your own home? Well, one of the signs is when you get handed a 'list' (of instructions on who you can and cannot associate with) for all your married life (put that at 60 years??) and you have an idea of the 'consequence' when you do something she doesn't quite agree with!

The only thing you mentioned about her is: she is "hardworking lady who quickly rise to the top management position in her coy". Maybe you missed some more attributes: beauty, good sex, money, etc. Well, all these will be of no consequence if you are to be subservient to her in a marriage. She supposedly 'makes' the rules and you obey. Baring any 'wrongs' you do, she gets mad at you! If she is indeed like that, I am sorry, but I think the relationship may be heading for the rocks. . .even before the marriage happens. . .and these are some of the signs.

If she is like this now, never imagine that you can 'change' her or she will 'change'. This may be a one way-street into marital captivity! huh

April 21, 2009 15:32, 389 views

By Astro Jewoola  &  Olatunji Obasa

A bus driver, Kayode Adebayo, trying to avoid arrest by homicide detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, has committed suicide.

His body was discovered last night, inside the Light Gospel Liberty Ministry on Oguntade Street, Oko-Oba, Lagos. His body was found dangling from the rafters. He left no suicide note. Family sources said Adebayo had been under investigation in a hit-and-run case by detectives at Panti. The offence was said to have been committed early this month. P.M.NEWS could not confirm if the offence involved a loss of life.

Adebayo, a father of two children, was, early Monday, seen in a cream native attire on Oguntade Street, distranght. He was in the same dress when he was found dead. The consistent barking of a dog attracted residents to the church. Yesterday, elders of the community and the shepherd in charge of the church, along with policemen from the Oko-Oba police station, appeased the gods to ward off future occurrences. Offered as sacrifice were a ram, an iron rod, which is emblematic of ogun, the god of iron; kolanuts; bitter kola and alligator pepper. The police at the Ikeja Command are said to have launched an investigation into the suicide. Meanwhile, Adebayo’s body has been deposited at the Ikeja General Hospital mortuary.

Well. . .if anyone even for a second 'hopes' or thinks social security can even work in Nigeria, the way Naija is right now, then he can as well tell us pigs now fly!!

I know a lot of you guys here live in countries where the is a social security system. . .and you would not deny that Nigeria has no structure to support anything even remotely close to that as of now. So, except we are depending on our usual "God will make everything possible" or some magic, this can never work. The government 'launching' this nonsense needs to provide and be able to manage the following information / infrastructure:

1. Accurate population of Nigeria
2. Record of names and bio-data
3. Employment statistics that is accessible country wide
4. Stable power for the infrastructure that keeps this information database online
5. Tax information for every Nigerian
6. A clear plan on how it will pay for this initiative
7. Sustainability on the long run (not something to award some shady contract like the National ID card and a subsequent government has no interest or plan in keeping such program)
8. Etc, etc. . .(fill in the gap yourself)

Naija likes to 'feel among' ('copy cat') the countries doing something worthwhile but we don't like to build the foundation that such countries built that makes their societies run so efficiently. Some minister / government official who has just googled his ass off to learn about something being done abroad, slaps together some ridiculous idea and get the Yara man (or Governor) to say accent to it and next is the 'initiative' is being launched!!

Na wa o, Naija never seems to learn as a country!!

Impressive write-up with important points marshalled coherently and prescisely.

One thing though: would it not be better if Nigeria can get away from all the titles and protocol which in other climes would be referenced, maybe, once? Perhaps at the beginning of the letter / speech? His Excellency, Sir, etc used repeatedly distracts from the 'hard talk' which is indeed very much needed at this time.
Politics › Re: Yar'adua Confesses: 'I Can't Sleep Over Power Situation' by CyberG: 5:45am On Apr 12, 2009
Anyone doubt what the result of this fire-brigade approach to solving problems would be? Wouldn't be different from what we have known for years! Much as this may be so, there are certain things that Yara could do that would have a long lasting effect. Some ideas:

1. Limit his efforts to the power plants that are already in existence, don't waste billions of dollars building new plants
2. Remove the useless bureaucracy that is killing power generation, transmission and distribution (in fact bureaucracy should be dealt with in a larger context and not just for PHCN)
3. Let Nigeria operate a true Federal constitution. . .let each state not only deal with its power problems but infrastructure, police, transportation and also generate their own revenue from which they will only pay taxes to the federal government. This will help to streamline the huge resource-guzzling do-nothing-but-steal federal government and their hangers-on.
4. By allowing each state to deal with power issues, state governments should encourage people to install solar and wind infrastructure to generate power, feed excess back to the grid and let their be a way of compensating people feeding back to the grid. . .a lot of people will gladly trade-in and give up petrol generators in the face of the incentives and long term cost-savings of renewable energy sources.
5. Last but not least, let private companies invest in power generation, transmission and distribution on a state by state basis not the whole country much like the phone companies.

Yara would have set a big precedence with some of these bold initiatives and should thereafter focus a lot of his energy on oversight at the Federal level, setting an example for state governors to follow. These ideas are non-exhaustive and could be interpreted in more than one way but a new approach would be a welcome development and will get results sooner than commissioning a Minister to do 'anything' to solve this problem.

For a long time, Nigerians and the whole world, have known that Nigerian leadership is a JOKE! Yaramonu who hasn't got a clue on what to do in two years is sprinting to Ekiti to put in another do-nothing idiot? As usual, the captive Jonathan and fellow do-nothing selected officials are in tow! Shame on all these people! Why go all the way when they still have Ewu, the master rigger to write the results?? Yara who has not provided any leadership whatsoever now wants to go and 'lead' a campaign? Where is a heavy thunderbolt when you need one seriously?

Otherwise, in the absence of thunderbolt, MEND and all the militants should have heavily planted their explosives in every strategic place in Ekiti so this bunch of thieves can all be sent to hell to meet their master. . .what a bountiful harvest that would be!

Imagine the billions of money (mostly from Oil) that would be spent for traveling and bribing just to imprison the Ekiti people and Nigerians? Yaradua that has not been meeting / talking to Nigerians all of a sudden loves the Ekiti people so much and knows who is best to serve their interest? Indeed, he is a SERPENT NON-LEADER! Foolish Jonathan too is there since he has no choice. . .a spare tire has no choice!

Well, this thread is being distracted from original information being sought by the poster. . . so you thread hijackers. . . back off 'cos we will treat you as terrorists. . .henceforth! grin grin

@Poster. . . getting into Canada by asking for someone to accommodate you is a long shot because this is putting the cart before the horse! If you wish to get in here LEGALLY, your quest starts at the CIC website : www.cic.gc.ca

Now, getting to Canada with your present qualifications, baring a miracle, is almost impossible except you wish to further your education or have parents living here. In the case of education, you will need to attend an interview during which you must demonstrate convincingly to the visa officer you intend to return to Nigeria after your studies (of course, you could get around that after you get here but you have to scale this hurdle first). If the parent angle is applicable to you, good, explore it as per the information on the website.

Finally, you may also wish to come here as a skilled worker but that is another long and involving process which you could explore. . . start from the website getting relevant information. Overall, you will need to show more than O'levels and significant work experience because it is a point-based system. If you score the minimum points, then you could take this further. There would be websites where you could put in your qualification & experience and get an idea of what your score might be if you applied.

In the meantime, make every effort to get into school in Naija, learn a trade, do something productive which would show that you have been busy all the while and not idling around. This is a big deal for your visa application and your resume when you apply for a job here. Employers like to see that an applicant has been busy and not staying at home doing nothing, so gaps in your resume are not good. Remember also, whatever you do: school or learning a trade, you better be good at it and pay attention because this is what will make your life easier when you get here. It is challenging and very competitive to be at the top and almost everything works on merit.

All the best!

What has someone being pained got to do with the fact that today, several Nigerians will face the same fate as the people hitherto 'saved' but with no medical-doctor-governor to 'save' them?

I know in Nigeria, 'leaders' are glorified for doing almost anything supposedly ordinary folks do by themselves, so people saying how great it was to 'save' people is not surprising but when are we going to move to guarantee a good life and equality for everyone? I remember reading a story about how Yaradua used to go and buy cigarette by himself, not needing to send an aide on the errand. This alone is enough to sing his praises in Nigeria to high heavens.

Which is easier and better: To put in place a working system that deals with these kind of situations effectively or waiting to be 'saved' and lucky whenever disaster strikes?

Even Nigerian leaders know the answer. . . any wonder they are quick to run to where they can get good health care for headaches, backaches, even a just a breath of fresh air. If you are still in doubt, ask Yaradua.

Politics › Re: Mimiko Saves 3 Autocrash Victims by CyberG: 2:53am On Mar 31, 2009
Lives were saved, good! But that is where this story really ends. The rest is crap!

In Nigeria, this may be worth celebrating as 'good' news to massage someone's ego. In other places where there is proper planning, the governor, mayor even any regular Joe on the street has no business to save or touch anyone or anything if their is any kind of accident be it road, fire or some crazy man goes on a shooting spree.

Just dial the emergency number (911) and police, firemen and medics will be there in a few minutes faster than you could ever try to 'save' the person! Oh, and the emergency treatment starts instantly and not until they get to the hospital right there in the ambulance, before they get to the hospital. In remote towns or remote areas, a rescue helicopter ferries the victims right to the hospital and get this: the helicopter lands right on top of the hospital building for the fastest and easiest access.

One more thing: Did someone wonder what the condition of the road is where this accident occurred? What about road signage? Lighting? Even, to the very driver training for all drivers which is so critical in some countries but in Nigeria, just pay the usual 'roja' to the FRSC and even a goat will get a license.
