Foxie: In my first interview with a client of their's I was spoken down to by the client and basically belittled & ridiculed. In this second interview I was asked to come in at 11:45am but when I finally walked out of the building it was 2pm meanwhile I wasn't asked to take a written assessment, fill out any sort of paper work oooo. I thought this is crazy a mere oral interview shouldn't last this long. And this thread just wont go away. I'd like to comment on the quoted above. As job applicants you need to realize that a job interview these days goes beyond looking at your educational qualifications and work experience. We already have that info from your CV. When you are called to an interview, we want to assess you. Sometimes, your assessment starts from the moment you step through the gates. That long wait you are complaining about sometimes is also a test of your resilence and patience level. In some cases your every action while waiting is being watched through CCTV cameras. Are you the type who gets restless and begins to complain to the front desk executive? Are you going to start murmuring and grumbling to other applicants? Sometimes the employer wants to know, how you can handle such pressure, especially if you will be dealing with their clients once you are employed. So, sometimes they harrass you and talk down at you in the hope that you might snap, or visibly show your annoyance or discomfort. It's the typical good cop, bad cop scenario. It's just a test, it's nothing personal. |
Have we even stopped to think that maybe Keshi is giving Yobo enough room to call time on his international career on his own terms instead of being told he is no longer needed like a discarded tissue paper? Would Yobo have preferred a phone call that goes like this: Keshi: Hello. Joe? I called to inform you that you are no longer needed in the national team. I only took you to the Nations Cup out of respect for all the years of sacrifice you made to the nation. I'll be naming Enyeama/Mikel as my new captain. I will be giving a press conference tomorrow to make this announcement. Thanks and bye. I bet if that had happened Yobo would still be here complaining that he was used and dumped by Nigeria. Dude, just honorably retire from international football and take you place alongside the greats like Jay-Jay, Kanu and co. You've earned it. Go out on a high if you truly have a reputation to protect. And to be honest, I'm yet to see where it is stated that a coach must call every player to inform them they won't be playing a game. National team players are selected from a pool, and no one has a permanent spot in the team. It's painful, especially when you want to play for your country, but sh*t happens. |
Kulas: Lets all be sincere in making comments. For me,Keshi is very wrong.Truly many Nigerians including me have seen that Yobo is depreciating going by his poor performance in the last AFCON and young players like Kenneth Omeruo and others performed far more than him and are no doubts a good replacement for Yobo.I agreed.Again,i see it that Keshi is finding it difficult to tell Yobo openly to go and rest,ie that he is no longer needed in the SE.He would have summon courage as a man and told him in a respectful way that he is no longer needed as he has found competence replacement for him which i believe most Nigerians will support him(Keshi) because we all see that Omeruo and co are far better than Yobo.If keshi had done it in this mature way,it would have given much respect to Yobo considering his position as Captain of the team.Like i said,i support that Yobo retire from SE,but let it be done with respect and not in a disgraceful way.Er, how well did that work with Rio Ferdinand when Roy Hodgson dropped him from the Euros? |
Ndjones: This list is fake. No Osaze, No Haruna, No Bright Dike, No Sidney Sam, No Eneramo. It can't beI hope he has bought enough credit to call them all? U can add Taiwo, Apam, Okonkwo,Haruna Lukman, Rabiu Ibrahim, Joel Obi and every player that has been capped in the last 3 years to the list. Keshi please call o, before we hear say Martins sef dey vex. NFF oya give Keshi 50k for credit. ![]() |
Wow, this thread is still going on? Interesting. You want to know something else I have discovered about a number of young people the organization I work for recently employed, and which I believe may also be caused by this "computer age, gadget-gathering mentality"? Most of them can't use basic computer applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and so on. Some can't even do proper research work using search engines on the internet. Some don't even know how to navigate around a PDF file. Yes, they can browse and they can open MS Word to type reports, but ask them to format the same report, trouble! Change font, adjust spacing, itemize using bullets, change page orientation and so on. For where? If tables or graphs are now involved, wahala don start. Don't even mention presentation slides on Powerpoint. Dat one na WAEC. Yet, a number of them have come in with their BB's and Ipads, acting like they are techy compliant and in tune with basic apps used for official business purpose, but NOOOOOOOOO! It's like all they do is ping, take pictures, update their facebook status, go on Whatsapp, beg for followings on Twitter and BAM!!!! That's where it ends. You basically have to teach them to do everything. It's like the more today's generation gets used to using all these almost pocket-sized gadgets with all the funky apps, the more they tend to not know basic computing stuff they teach in computer appreciation courses. Abi, computer school no dey Naija again? Heck, I usually find my way around most applications just by reading the help manual or doing trial and error. Maybe I'm just a dinosaur, but coming to an interview flashing a Tablet or Laptop doesn't impress me one bit. |
gparker: DabossmanOkay o! Like Woody Allen's movie, whatever works I guess. |
@gparker: Just to add. It's okay to know your self-worth and exude confidence at an interview. Heck, you can even turn back at the gate if you feel the environment of the organization doesn't appeal to you, or tell the interviewers thank you, but no questions and leave knowing you'll never return if you get the feeling they don't meet up with your own standards. I've done that before, and I don't think carrying a laptop along would have helped me in making that decision. |
gparker: RichySeriously at the bolded? You have to power up a laptop to ask me questions you want to know about my organization? Me:Please Mr. Gparker do you have any questions? You: Yes! Just a sec, I need to power up my laptop. Me: *drumming my fingers on the table and thinking "this boy must want to ask me 21 questions and then some. how many more applicants do we have outside?" |
Er, did they have human "test subjects" while trying to see if this really works? *Just asking* |
Ah, the mobile phone! A very good and useful invention, although sometimes annoying. I miss the days of landlines. Now everybody expects that they can reach you wherever, whenever. If you say "but I didn't have my phone with me", they'll say "it's a mobile phone, duh". Well maybe I don't want to be reached, duh! ![]() But seriously, it really is a useful device. My first was one heavy-duty Motorola that helped tone my biceps. Can anyone remeber those monophonic ringtones? La cu caracha? ![]() |
dabossman: This is why I like playing Football Manager. If one of my players yarn dis kain dust, na transfer list straight and off to the reserve team.Again, and I quote myself, and ask "innocently" is it mandatory and will the coach have to call every player in the National team pool seeing that only a certain number can be called at a time? |
This is why I like playing Football Manager. If one of my players yarn dis kain dust, na transfer list straight and off to the reserve team. ![]() But seriously, let us look at this from another angle. Is it compulsory that a coach must call every player he will not be inviting for a game or tournament? Osaze complained about this. So did Emenike, and now Yobo. But when you consider that there are probably over 100 Nigerian players both local and foreign based in the National team pool, does that mean the coach must call each one of them? Call Taiye Taiwo, Kalu Uche, Bright Dike, Haruna Lukman, Apam, Rabiu Ibrahim, Joel Obi, the dude in Singapore, China, Japan, Shooting Star, Kano Pillars, Eyinmba and so on. Men, Keshi must have a huge budget for making phone calls o! Again I ask, is it mandatory? And does it also means that some players can safely assume that they have a permanent seat/shirt in the national team and will always be called up? Just asking o! |
Take it easy guys. The man said safest, not crime-free! I would want to think he knows what he is saying based on reports they get from all over the country. So, unless you can prove that you get daily, weekly or monthly reports on all the reported crime cases (from petty theft to violent crimes) from every corner of Nigeria, it is best we give the man the benefit of a doubt and believe that he is speaking based on statistical facts. Besides, these stats can change from one month to the other, and the fact that they robbed someone in your neighbourhood yesterday doesn't necessarily mean that your area is the worst hit in the land. |
yet another dismal performance by the Super Eagles..., I mean Man United. Choi, these teams wey I dey support sef. ![]() |
Na wa o. God go help me. Watching Super Eagles..., high blood pressure. Watching Man United..., high blood pressure. |
Every time I read comments on a thread that has to do with Tonto Dikeh, I just feel the grey matter in my brain slowly eroding. Especially the comments from her hardline supporters. Like seriously? ![]() And all this talk about one artiste is making their money blah, blah, blah..., gosh, I laugh in Chinese Mandarin. Packaging can be so deceptive. Or maybe some folks are just naturally slow. ![]() |
@Speedboi has said it all. Unlike countries like Libya, Egypt and Zimbabwe who had/have had one man governing them for ages, we have had many leaders from the different parts of the country, yet no change. We like to delude ourselves that they are the same circle of people, yet the circle keeps growing larger. Our private and public sector is a mess. Crooks everywhere. Indiscipline is the order of the day. We say we'll change if our leaders lead by example, yet we fight and contend with every leader who tries to bring positive change just because we are stuck in our ways. Just drive around Lagos (the microcosym of Nigeria) for a day and you will know that Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria. |
Gwekzy: Oh No.. Don't disturb d dead pls...he shuld rest in peace...Oga lawyer dere re oda ways 2 make moniSeriously? So, if someone comes forward with evidence to nail those who killed Bola Ige, Dele Giwa, and many other murder cases (high and low profile) we should tell them to shut up and take a walk so the dead can rest in peace? Well, news flash, the dead are dead, but justice should be served. If anyone is culpable in his death, they should be brought to justice. |
It seems that in a bid to come online and spew their tribal sentiments, some people don't even take time to comprehend the headline and the article beneath it. It say Ijora Landlords, that is..., LANDLORDS! Not Yorubas, not the Lagos State government, but some landlords in a particular community want to evict Northerns (not even Hausas). Now the last time I checked, a landlord still has the right to evict a tenant after given adequate and lawful notice, irrespective of the reasons he/she may give for such an eviction notice. And the tenant might as well start seeking accomodation somewhere in the town or city. Now how does this simple issue denigrate to Yorubas saying they will get rid of all Hausas, and other tribes (Ibo, Ijaw, Hausa, Kanuri etc) calling Yorubas cowards and what not? ![]() |
I'm shaking my head at some of the dumb comments here. So if a bomb goes of in Lagos it will selectively wipe out Yorubas and leave other tribes alone right? What tribe made up large number of the victims of the Kano bomb blast? Oh, so Ibos, Ijaws, Hausas etc no dey live for Lagos again ehn? You guys had better pray that Lagos is not bombed because everyone go here am, irrespective of tribe. |
