naijababe:I guess august is not the best time then .As for unhealthy menus, cant we take a few stuff with us so maybe only lunch will be unhealthy and we improvise in the evening? will be a 2/3 day trip at the most though so should not be that bad. |
SAMBARRY:You have gotten the reason why kids parties tend to go over the top esp for Africans.. THE ADULTS!!!! the kids don't even want jollof rice or ayamase or all the other stuff that adults add to it. ordinary chicken wings and they are ok.. I have seen Dom Perignon at a 1st birthday party .. if you have the money sha. OP if your house is small you could probably do it at an eatery/play centre or something and limit the no of children so say they charge N2,000 per child you can have a maximum of say 10 to 12 children that you can handle with one or two extra adults and use the rest for Cake. Even saves you cleaning at the end of it all.As I said earlier pictures are the most important But knowing Naija stuff like play centers will most likely be elitist and overly expensive. |
Day 16 done.. I think I prefer doing it in the morning. |
tearoses:Exactly why I cant have an affair as well. walahi I need a cure for this ' I just want to go home' syndrome. Once I step in the afternoon Its too much work. Ordinary to spend 1 hour on gele and make up to go to owambe dey tire me sef.I have been known to decide that I will rather stay home than go to a party as I cant manage more than 2 weekends of back to back partying. By the 3rd weekend, I am drained. |
naijababe:Thomas Land at Drayton Manor abi? Is it any good?I was going to book it for i.e the whole package and stay at the hotel with the Thomas themed room but I read some bad reviews on Trip advisor( dated rides, service not that great) and decided against it and went for LEGOLAND ( even though my daughter has been) as we have done Chessignton My son and your son must be related. Gosh that boy and Thomas ehn If you like let there be a storm if he is watching Thomas he is as silent as a mouse. I wont lie Lazy me tends to use it as a baby sitter when I have stuff to do for like 2 hours just plonk him in front of it you wont hear pim till that 2 hours is over. To get hom to wear another pyjamas that is not the Thomas one na war so I have had to order 2 more sets. Thomas Land will be heaven for him is it good? |
SAMBARRY:Sambarry there is def some ijebu genes lurking in there ![]() Very well broken down I personally (that's my belief ) don't believe in going OTT for 1st year birthday parties as 1 yr olds tend to get cranky with large crowds. I also think a childs party is for the child , how will a one year old experience or enjoy lavish parties? I guess all the pictures of my 1st birthday party with me crying or my mum trying to get me to look at the camera (plus countless others of cranky 1 yr olds at others i attended esp those that change them like 4 times ) put me off all that stress. We had just us and her cousins when my daughter was one and maybe 4 more peooke when my son was one. Dont think I spent more than £300 on either celebrations. From 5 they can get a say and actually have friends that they will enjoy it with. The most important thing is pictures so you can show them 'this was your first birthday'. |
Kimoni:Small small you will get there ![]() |
Kimoni:Abi o and she is abusing us ![]() Sotey she started dashing people lace ![]() |
Kimoni: ![]() My own na cousins and uncles and aunties I be first born so dem no born my siblings well other choice ones include 'omo ounje' 'jejere' |
Maybe you should start doing meal prep , the night or maybe from sun night( its annoying I know) but it saves you from putting the next available thing in your mouth when you are really hungry. Even take in my own snacks to work so I don't have to urge 'visit' the vending machine. Today sef ( maybe cos I did my WO in the morning and also about 4km walking to work) the hunger wey waya me mid afternoon ehn if if did not have an apple and some nuts in my drawer na biscuits for get me o ( my colleague even has assorted biscuit tins that she brings in every week to share with whoever wants it ). The healthy eating stuff na real war I agree and makes one seem a bit odd but its needed not just for a buff body but generally to help ones health. Just take it lil by lil sha and make lil changes and you will get there. if anyone could tell me I could live without Coke or fizzy drinks or take oats without sugar I would have argued with them. Even my digestive system is thanking me. I used to be one those people who could 3 days without visiting the toilet for No2 now I go everyday. Kimoni: |
Could be one of the reasons . but another reason could be to break down language barriers within the commiunities they are policing. people tend to relax more around people who look, act and talk like them. tolustx: |
I have a 3 year old that is soo cheeky as well and cant begin to imagine the pain. May his soul rest in peace |
![]() goes both ways these days I am beginning to know and notice more women of Nigerian descent with men from other nationalities. Its all down to choice. and na wa for the level of stereotyping on this thread. Like the woman who went after her now rich husband for child support for a 32 year old child/man was a Nigerian. |
Sambarry I have ijebu and Lagos island blood mixed together, the two worst 'so called owambe culprits 'and sometimes going to owambe is like torture for me. So see your assertion is not always true and I would rather give to charity than buy lace. The ones in my wardrobe sef how many times do I wear them ? |
you ehn . I love your candour sha.You can still have 'healthy' shikin and ships naa grill or roast instead of fried chicken then swap irish potato for sweet potato either air fried or roasted or grilled and voila you have shkin and ships, healthier and almost close to the real thing Shikin and ships is easy sef it is we jollof rice people that are trying, quinoa and cous cous dey try small small but it cant be the same as jollof rice. Day 15 finally done.. its the school holidays so less manic mornings will be working out in the mornings ..really nice feeling 1st thing but my arms are still tingling as I increased my weights to 2.5 I almost gave up at the 2nd set of side lunges. I am getting bored a bit sha so maybe il mix it up a bit and try Efe's dance work outs in between days.. |
TooNoisy:It's a mindset one I don't get but one that some women have . There are women who expect their husband to pay their siblings school fees as part of his responsibility.(not saying an inlaw can't help out I believe in helping people I don't even know sef not to talk of inlaw )but to be vexing when he is unable to afford is what I don't get. Oh well different strokes |
This is a bit extreme as the bills in question is the wife mother's medical bills.. But there are loads of women who believe that any money they spend in the household is a 'loan' to their husbands. Some will not cook a certain type of food that THEY feel like eating even if they have the money because the feeding money hubby dropped is not enough for it (don't get it sha in this one short life that we have if I was not married won't I feed myself ni ) . Countless who will stay in darkness and not buy diesel till the husband gets back even if they have the money (again who is in the darkness )That said some men encourage that 'almighty alpha behaviour I must provide everything behaviour'(we had one on another thread today ) they feel that's the only way they can get 'respect' . I know I would be super irritated by it as a man especially if I know you have the money.its like leech behaviour to me. I don't get it sha and never will but we are all different. I was brought not to feel entitled to anything and if my hubby does things for my parents I don't take it for granted as his 'responsibility' I even know working women whose husbands pay ALL or most of the big ticket bills that still get upset that they don't get an allowance. Now I am not saying you can't get each other gifts ( my husband puts money in my acct sometimes and says buy yourself something nice) but to actually resent the man for not doing it when you have your own money to do as you wish is something I can't get. Maybe am too proud sha ![]() |
edwife:See edwife has shown you ..of course there are 'mammy water' with cropped hair, braids and team natural . They are the posh ones ![]() I get you though according to nollywood all mammy water have like 32" Brazilian hair and their outfits must always be colour blocked (yellow and pink) |
You are soo right.. na so small person go dun turn to recluse .. It can be addictive ..my brain is constantly calculating calorie content and my shopping now takes forever cos of the time I use to read food labels all things in moderation. I do have a goal and as soon as I reach I will maintain try to maintain the healthy and active lifetstyle while still enjoying life pleasesures once in a while Chillis: |
. Chillis:Great tips chilli sooooo many pitfalls for me this week, team lunches and owambes back to back. With owambes its a bit hard as I never eat salad or moi moi at parties( I have had horrible dates with the toilets after eating those two made dodgy caterers) besides the 'salad' is already like 700 calories with all the egg, baked beans, mayonaisse etc etc. Even ayamase I dey fear cos the last one I ate at a party I visited the toilet immediately .My stomach is soooooo sensitive so I tend to eat jollof rice(not even fried rice) as its the food that withstand a little bit of unhygienic handling. what I will do is eat little by little and drink loads of water to fill me up. These days I drink green tea/water to fill me up with all those 'bird' portions but I sha cant carry green tea to owambe before they start looking at me like I have finally lost it. |
naijababe:I thought I was the only one. What I do at those charity bake sales is to put in money take one cake and quickly wrap it in tissue. My son's face will just light up when I pick him from nursery ![]() |
edwife: ![]() this is discrimination against we Brazilian wearing chics |
Brazilian weave wearing mammy waters mammy water no dey do braids or be 'team naturalista' ni ? |
![]() I no wan spoil naa; i will just make use of 'premium services'. Based on what i now know even in the UK people who don't have the luxury of time are willing to pay extra to get things move along quicker. So why cant we just adopt that? I remember a while ago when i was getting my ILR i think i paid about £600 more than people who went through the postal process. I got mine on the same day but i paid for it. But naija you will pay premium 'codedly' and maybe even still get crap service.why cant we just make it upfront? if you want it free be prepared to queue from here to Kutuwenji but if you don't mind paying extra the time could be shortened. even ordinary Tesco grocery charge more for 1 hour delivery slots as opposed to 4 hour delivery slots. That's the beauty of capitalism. |
![]() With all their alakoba team Krispy Cremes, lunch meeting, pizzas to 'compensate' for working through Lunch etc etc Speaking of which i have two this week one on Wednesday and on Thursday. The upside is 'extended lunches/meetings are code words for doing nothing that afternoon and also getting to go home early. |
TeHN:Good to hear will follow the thread for future updates. |
Kimoni:Ok i will do that .. I am an optimist about Naija ..i remember my husband used to get Visa to go to Nigeria cos he used to dread all the stories about stress to get a passport at Nigeria House.I could not get over getting visa to go to your own country. I told him its not that bad and he actually admitted it when he went to get his passport recently. So let me keep up that optimism and fingers crossed, besides man know man makes stuff easier in Naija sometimes. |
Kimoni:going after the 20th( that's when my AL starts) Going for a wedding and they are already vexing with my flying visit but you know how UK is now .All annual leave is planned around school holidays and half terms so I cant spare more than that no of days. I don't have the luxury of spending one whole day at any bank .maybe i should just jejely do it in the UK and book half day off work. |
naijababe:which determination? You did not see where i said i ate the jollof rice yesterday ni esp as hubby kept saying 'jollof rice yen dun gan o try ' its almost finished though so don't think will have anymore of it as hubby has taken some to share with his mate at work. The remaining quinoa is my lunch today sha. |

so it was quiet and not crowded as theme parks are wont to be. The only issue is food, you are confined to food in the hotel or nearby restaurant and mehn the menus were the unhealthiest combos I have ever seen. Both kiddos loved it though, they've been asking to go back in fact
