The theme park itself was great, we went during Scottish half-term grin so it was quiet and not crowded as theme parks are wont to be. The only issue is food, you are confined to food in the hotel or nearby restaurant and mehn the menus were the unhealthiest combos I have ever seen. Both kiddos loved it though, they've been asking to go back in fact
I guess august is not the best time then .As for unhealthy menus, cant we take a few stuff with us so maybe only lunch will be unhealthy and we improvise in the evening?

will be a 2/3 day trip at the most though so should not be that bad.

if it will not do do it in front of your house in the compound. Just monitor the children very well. If you feel like spending more sef you can add caprisone 25 naira to the list and put it inside souvenir. 25 naira x9=225naira. Then buy small pieces of gizzard tell them to mix it with meat everything 300 naira. When you get home dice it Into small pieces like tinko and soak it inside oily stew and put it inside foil and then inside the souvenir That's fair enough it will make the souvenir richer and full
tell the parents to drop their kids and go as it is STRICTLY FOR KIDS so you won't be spending extra entertaining adults. Tell them by 4pm they should come and pick up their children. Party starts by 10 am and closes by 4pm cheesy
I'm giving you options. If you don't want it this way you can do it that way. The koko is that the kids are happy. Remove all breakable plates and cups before they break it and the reason I said yo should give them plastic bottles is so that they won't break bottle or a child won't step on broken bottle. As much as possible you have to minimise every form of hazard they can be prone to
You have gotten the reason why kids parties tend to go over the top esp for Africans.. THE ADULTS!!!! the kids don't even want jollof rice or ayamase or all the other stuff that adults add to it. ordinary chicken wings and they are ok..

I have seen Dom Perignon at a 1st birthday party .. if you have the money sha.

OP if your house is small you could probably do it at an eatery/play centre or something and limit the no of children so say they charge N2,000 per child you can have a maximum of say 10 to 12 children that you can handle with one or two extra adults and use the rest for Cake.

Even saves you cleaning at the end of it all.As I said earlier pictures are the most important

But knowing Naija stuff like play centers will most likely be elitist and overly expensive.

I've broken it down before let me down again

parlour Parry means small party. The child doesn't have to invite all his classmates in school and Sunday school class. Tell him to just invite 3 of his close friends in class
3of his close friends in the neighbourhood and 3of his close friends in church making 9 children

there are affordable low price cakes. Find one struggling caterer you can tell to bake you better cake of not more than 5k.at most 7k

rice of 8 derica is ok . One derica is 200 naira, so making it 200naira x 8 cups is1600 naira.

tomato 400 naira, pepper 200 naira is ok then 100 naira onions, 50naira Maggi, thyme of 80 naira making it 830naira then buy 2kilo of turkey. A kilo is 800 naira so 2 will be 1600 naira

photographs shouldn't be more than 2k

A pack of plastic coke is 2k.mix it with fanta another 2k making it 4k.no need for dj.na parlour party. Just make the environment children friendly and put children music on

those that want to play video game should go to another section of the sitting room

No need to buy water. Water is in the dispenser near the dinning table. Any child that wants water should indicate

then pack of sweet is 400 naira

Big bowl of ice cream is 1500 just pour some inside small plastic cups for them

decorate the sitting room with balloons. Just buy 150 naira balloons

calculate all that money and tell me if e reach 10k talk more of 40k

.you people just believe that if you've not done a big party for kids you've not done anything

souvenirs too shouldn't be too expensive. Inside the souvenir will be exercise book of 100 naira. Put 3sweet and 3chewing gum. Buy sweet of 3 ten naira and chewing gum 10 naira making it 20 naira. Put eraser 5m 30 naira and pencil 10 naira inside the souvenir small nylon as take away for 9 kids lobatan
Sambarry there is def some ijebu genes lurking in there grin

Very well broken down

I personally (that's my belief ) don't believe in going OTT for 1st year birthday parties as 1 yr olds tend to get cranky with large crowds. I also think a childs party is for the child , how will a one year old experience or enjoy lavish parties? I guess all the pictures of my 1st birthday party with me crying or my mum trying to get me to look at the camera (plus countless others of cranky 1 yr olds at others i attended esp those that change them like 4 times cheesy) put me off all that stress. We had just us and her cousins when my daughter was one and maybe 4 more peooke when my son was one. Dont think I spent more than £300 on either celebrations.

From 5 they can get a say and actually have friends that they will enjoy it with. The most important thing is pictures so you can show them 'this was your first birthday'.

Maybe you should start doing meal prep , the night or maybe from sun night( its annoying I know) but it saves you from putting the next available thing in your mouth when you are really hungry.

Even take in my own snacks to work so I don't have to urge 'visit' the vending machine.

Today sef ( maybe cos I did my WO in the morning and also about 4km walking to work) the hunger wey waya me mid afternoon ehn if if did not have an apple and some nuts in my drawer na biscuits for get me o ( my colleague even has assorted biscuit tins that she brings in every week to share with whoever wants it ).

The healthy eating stuff na real war I agree and makes one seem a bit odd but its needed not just for a buff body but generally to help ones health. Just take it lil by lil sha and make lil changes and you will get there. if anyone could tell me I could live without Coke or fizzy drinks or take oats without sugar I would have argued with them.

Even my digestive system is thanking me. I used to be one those people who could 3 days without visiting the toilet for No2 now I go everyday.

Could be one of the reasons . but another reason could be to break down language barriers within the commiunities they are policing. people tend to relax more around people who look, act and talk like them.

tolustx:
You think this is good news? They are asking that police recruits understand yoruba language. Don't u think that is a means to combat offenders that speak dos languages?

In my opinion, those languages are languages of d top foreign offenders in Britain that the police force wants more efficiency in tracking down and investigating.

It's not something to rejoice over.

Dami, even whatsoever mentality, it should not get to extended family. The woman may have brothers, sisters or even a father. Should the man now shoulder all their responsibilities because he married one of them?

C in C even in the extreme is applicable to the nuclear family. Very soon if the wife gives money to a friend or a beggar on the street she will collect it back. May be she also collects her church offering back too.

By the way she is working o!
It's a mindset one I don't get but one that some women have . There are women who expect their husband to pay their siblings school fees as part of his responsibility.(not saying an inlaw can't help out I believe in helping people I don't even know sef not to talk of inlaw )but to be vexing when he is unable to afford is what I don't get.

Oh well different strokes
FamilyRe: Husband And Wife Issue by damiso(f): 8:00pm On Jul 20, 2015
This is a bit extreme as the bills in question is the wife mother's medical bills.. But there are loads of women who believe that any money they spend in the household is a 'loan' to their husbands. Some will not cook a certain type of food that THEY feel like eating even if they have the money because the feeding money hubby dropped is not enough for it (don't get it sha in this one short life that we have if I was not married won't I feed myself ni undecided) . Countless who will stay in darkness and not buy diesel till the husband gets back even if they have the money (again who is in the darkness huh)

That said some men encourage that 'almighty alpha behaviour I must provide everything behaviour'(we had one on another thread today ) they feel that's the only way they can get 'respect' . I know I would be super irritated by it as a man especially if I know you have the money.its like leech behaviour to me.

I don't get it sha and never will but we are all different. I was brought not to feel entitled to anything and if my hubby does things for my parents I don't take it for granted as his 'responsibility'

I even know working women whose husbands pay ALL or most of the big ticket bills that still get upset that they don't get an allowance. Now I am not saying you can't get each other gifts ( my husband puts money in my acct sometimes and says buy yourself something nice) but to actually resent the man for not doing it when you have your own money to do as you wish is something I can't get.

Maybe am too proud sha embarassed

My dear, participate with them. What you have to do is, if you know of any social gathering before hand, eat and drink some healthy stuff like fruits or vegetable before you go so when you grab a cake or bacon it will take you ages to finish while chatting and having fun.
On social gathering I don't go rejecting food.
I pick from the healthiest ones and by then I had already eaten some banana or avocado bellyfull cheesy
Always remember to eat healthy before you step out to that owambe with shiken and chips .
Great tips chilli sooooo many pitfalls for me this week, team lunches and owambes back to back.

With owambes its a bit hard as I never eat salad or moi moi at parties( I have had horrible dates with the toilets after eating those two made dodgy caterers) besides the 'salad' is already like 700 calories with all the egg, baked beans, mayonaisse etc etc. Even ayamase I dey fear cos the last one I ate at a party I visited the toilet immediately .My stomach is soooooo sensitive so I tend to eat jollof rice(not even fried rice) as its the food that withstand a little bit of unhygienic handling.

what I will do is eat little by little and drink loads of water to fill me up.

These days I drink green tea/water to fill me up with all those 'bird' portions but I sha cant carry green tea to owambe before they start looking at me like I have finally lost it.

I no wan spoil naa; i will just make use of 'premium services'.

Based on what i now know even in the UK people who don't have the luxury of time are willing to pay extra to get things move along quicker. So why cant we just adopt that? I remember a while ago when i was getting my ILR i think i paid about £600 more than people who went through the postal process. I got mine on the same day but i paid for it.

But naija you will pay premium 'codedly' and maybe even still get crap service.why cant we just make it upfront? if you want it free be prepared to queue from here to Kutuwenji but if you don't mind paying extra the time could be shortened.

even ordinary Tesco grocery charge more for 1 hour delivery slots as opposed to 4 hour delivery slots.

TeHN:
Dear All,

We've now had time to deliberate on this case and here goes our official response. After having considered the complexity of the case in line with TeHN’s current limitations, we are happy to announce that we would like to provide some sort of defined support for the boy in question.

In considering the case, we specifically looked at the information at disposal and the extent at which TeHN’s intervention can be measured going forward. We do feel the family needs a two pronged approach (empowerment and rehabilitation and/or medical intervention of the boy) in order to alleviate them from their current predicament but our involvement will be restricted to the little boy for the following reasons:

1) We don’t have enough resources to empower a potential young family of 7

2) TeHN has stopped accepting medical cases as we don’t have confidence in the healthcare system in Nigeria

In light of the above, our proposed intervention will be restricted to either of the following:

1) A one off donation to meet the cost of any corrective surgery if possible – We will only make the donation if and when any respectable volunteer has helped manage the process to a logical conclusion (We will expect them to do the facilitation of getting appointment and receiving a definite diagnosis and cost from any reputable hospital)

2) If option 1 is not feasible either by lack of a respectable volunteer or we receive feedback that corrective surgery is impossible, we will instruct our field workers to investigate the possibility of having the little boy admitted into a specialist school and work out a budget that we will be willing to make one-off donation towards.

Regards
Good to hear will follow the thread for future updates.
