I don't see why they have to be eliminated completely? What is wrong with allowing say one traditional meal a week, or okele only at owambes - assuming you do'nt go Thursday thru' Sunday grin? Especially if it's not a massive serving - I think that can be the issue more than the actual food type.

If of course one needs to achieve quick results for some reason sure - but long-term? Life is for living to some extent, why deny yourself. When you finally make it to my house if you don't eat the rich food I'll serve, I'll be upset 0 cheesy!

TV
Rich food grin grin grin

I could cut them out cos I have never been a really big fan of them in the first instance or more like I am too lazy to put in the effort to make them grin

Hubby makes all the eba/poundo/amala etc cos he just got tired of all the big big kokos grin when I made them.

Don't worry I wont refuse sumptuous ayamase and quinoa grin one cancels the other . just joking

All things in moderation like the Good book says.

everytime i go to the gym, women of all sizes & age groups ask for my number. tongue they want to know what i do to have gotten my greek god body shape. the method is simple - our nigerian food is the reason we have pregnant men & pregnant women in the country.

rice is very fine. it's way lower in calories than what 100g of pounded yam would do to the body. amala is a disgrace. ugly before consumption & very harmful after consumption.

i was brought up with those yeye foods too but i stopped in my JSS3. i knew they weren't for me & i have not missed it one jot. i suddenly realised i was the healthiest of my mates. i have never spent a night in any clinic or hospital. they are all following my lead now but its a tad too late for many of them.

avoid them completely.
poison is poison. people who eat them regularly will die quicker. people who eat them sparsely will be affected too but at a much later date. what's the difference? eventually, they will both have the same outcome!
We have heard o Adonis grin

Sometimes its hard to quit some things by just going cold turkey and so advising people to cut them out gradually might be the best way to go.

I have actually cut them out totally and these days I think I can even live with eating very lil rice sef ( anyone who knows me knows I love my jollof rice and ayamase).

You are right for some things though going cold turkey is the drastic solution.. not had fizzy drinks ( coke, sprite, Fanta etc) in almost 10 years.

He's right dami, I cut out eba, amala for almost a year but ate yam about twice a week and did not touch bread and pasta for about 8 months and I have a testimony grin, as of this morning it is 8 inches off my tummy, I can even see lil' miss naijababe if I suck in my tummy a bit now, an impossible feat before grin.

There's not much wrong with oil, sugar is the problem and carbs especially our starchy staples and packed full of the stuff.
I know he is right now I would even add rice sef but you know cougar naw grin grin

your problem is minor....
avoid pounded yam, eba & amala. never ever put them in your mouth again.
though I don't agree entirely with the bolded bit grin grin coogar and exaggeration ehn cheesy avoiding those foods or avoiding eating them on a regular basis does help with losing abdominal fat.

I started with cutting out pounded yam( not had it in over a year) then eba, then amala and now I don't even really eat amala anymore . And funny enough I don't miss them.

Salsera if you must make sure you eat more of the soup/stew (with lil oil) and very very small amounts. Like small amounts that after two or three scoops( okeles grin) its finished

I know we are gathering steam on the fitness threads but oya the usual suspects lets get more ideas on healthier twists to meals.

My food is still very clean but I find I am getting stuck in a rut of eating the same things over and over again.and too lazy to go back and read up from the beginning cheesy

Oya more ideas.. esp breakfast( naijababe not juices or smoothies only grin)

I tend to have Oats and a fruit( banana or summer berries) with a cup of Green tea and some days shredded wheat. I wanted to try Granola but I read the sugar content on some of the granola brands on the supermarket shelves and I picked race embarassed is there a way I could make my own granola mix with nuts, dried fruit and limit the sugar content?

I need fast and easy ideas that I can take with me to work which is why oats/cereal is my default as mornings are so manic for me.( getting my daughter to eat her own food is enough stress )

I dont mind prepping the night before though as I do that anyway for lunch and snacks

Cococandy kimoni chillisauce edwife bukatyne zemaye, efemenaxy naijababe, babe( or is It bab3)

aunty tearoses tongue grin( don't mind me) you can also get inspiration here did not want to butt into your other discussion.

Just a tip I tried yesterday .. I have this app on my phone called sworkit and it gives you different routines. I told you I was having cramps in my knees so yesterday before I started the JM WO , I did an extra 10 min warm up and stretches with the app before JM and I felt far less pains after the WO.

So for anyone who feels some sort of pains Maybe try adding some extra warmup /cool down/ stretches apart from hers before/after the WO. She is trying to get the optimum time from the workout so you might have to add some more mins to suit your body.

I prefer it though the bottles were a bit difficult to position properly to the eye level during the side lunges.

which kind check? Chei coco... grin Upon all the checks and balance you'd think western men will be less shiesty. But surprise, surprise, Infidelity is still a leading cause of divorce in the west. If Infidelity is a leading cause of divorce, imagine the number of western wives that are still living with cheating husbands coz of the emotional stress of divorce....

Humans are the same everywhere. Yes there are laws here in the west compared to Africa but that's all on the surface. No difference between a modern african marriage and a western marriage; the bullshìt is just packaged differently.

The number of cheating men hasn't reduced because of those laws , btw. I can even argue that it has increased.
I've lived in the west for a while, I've never seen where a western wife divorced her husband coz he cheated once. The men usually get a pass; the women proceed to divorce if the man is unrepentant, or if he's rich, or if there are other issues apart from cheating.

Bottom line is, it's not all black and white. We (westerners and Africans) have more similarities than differences.
I just had to like and also quote.

I also used to think Western( white men to be precise grin) were the epitome of Prince Charming grin

Human beings are human beings.

No matter how much Maria Shriver got in the divorce settlement I don't think it can account for the Hurt of knowing that your husband had a love child under your nose.

1.25 kg? grin grin grin grin grin You need to do more strength training ma'am, as with other things na one day at a time, think back to your first jog. I am sure you became winded in a matter of minutes, now Marion Jones prolly has nothing on you grin

@ Damiso & Boldedleonidas, love Assam, Darjeeling, Red bush and most herbal infusions except nettle. That 5hit tastes like ........................i don't even have the word. Pukka's liquorice is really really nice, the smell alone is so very inviting.

@ Mrs OJ, that belly na small fry compared to mine two years ago, inside body magic sef my belle dey show so much so people would ask me if i was pregnant despite wearing the darn thing angry My only opinion on belly fat is that most of it is diet related, you will have to make some serious life style changes to lose belly fat. I had to and these days I am pretty comfortable and used to my diet even if I have the occasional lapse in judgement and drown my sorrows in Oreo cookies and Croissants sad

@ Thread, took a day off Jillian yesterday, so today is day 7 for me, I am getting there but I have to admit the side lunges are still are killer. I intend to do level one for 20 twenty days .............I want to stretch the program to 60 days to to mimic Shaun T's 60 days insanity.

Keep at it ladies .....................we can only do this one day at a time wink
Day 7 done..the side lunges and last cardio circuits (butt kicks/jump ropes) is when I feel like giving up but today I was just flying off the ground at the last set of jump ropes.

I intend to stretch level 1 for 20 days too ..watched a review on YouTube and the lady said Level 3 has a lot of jumping I said yeepa my knees o . I guess il be used to it by then.My knees are my issue when working out. I think I need to do more warm ups to loosen up the joints around my knees before starting any form of exercise cod I notice the pain even after running/jogging/brisk walking.

Ppmoma don't worry the pain will subside not feeling the pain that much anymore.

FamilyRe: Must Your Spouse Be Your Best Friend? by damiso(op): 5:58pm On Jul 05, 2015
EnlightenedSoul:
No.

I mean, if you're married to and/or dating/marrying your best friend that's great whatever works, but I've personally always made a distinction between my best friends, and my S/O. Wonderful though they are, I wouldn't date any of my best friends (male among them anyway) anymore than I would tag my S/O as some sort of chief 'bestie', or whatnot, among them.

In my mind, he's his own separate category.

We're not "two peas in a pod" as an above user described it - the attraction and chemistry is def there, but we've divergent interests/hobbies/personalities (tho they're some core similarities that bind us).

My 'EX', RIP, was the same way with the added element of the wild, otherworldly attraction and captivation that is first love's domain.

Observation: I've seen best friends fall for each other only to fall to pieces, so I don't think being 'besties' is necessarily relationship-salvaging.

Advice: If your spouse/fiancé/bf/gf is indeed your "best friend", take care that they not be your only [best] friend.
Just saw this.. I totally agree. I really do believe placing the 'only' friend tag on another human being is a really big ask spouse or not.

FamilyRe: Let Children Play-don't Stifle Their Creativity by damiso(f): 11:57am On Jul 03, 2015
Very long read but a very interesting article that looks at play in a different light.

I remember when my daughter was at her old nursery and I used to be on their case that I don't think they pushed her enough. Everyday na so sand pit, jungle, stickle bricks and very little actual school work. I used to be so upset that we were paying a lot just for her to go and play. I would tell her nursery teacher but she can play at home. The nursery teacher would try to calm me down that the Early Learning Years(0-5) is actually where learning take place through play. I did not answer, I guess it was the first child syndrome. Esp when my friends children in Nigeria were claiming to be reading at 3. And you are still teaching my daughter with play dough angry

To be honest, she was actually learning and even my son surprises me with stuff that he comes out with. Yesterday he was naming the planets in the solar system, shocked he said Mars, Venus and I was shocked. I am a bit more chilled but I still kinda ( I guess its the Nigerian in me) side eye the whole 'learning through play' thing. I don't think they have gone past teaching them 1 to 10 in my sons nursery so I teach him the rest myself at home cheesy I agree though that creativity is stifled by the 'cram and pour' educational system.
