Damiso, did you er...hold your nose whilst trying to swallow the plain porridge? You know, sort of like squeezing your face before taking a tablespoon of Corvonia Chesty Cough Syrup? grin grin grin Sorry, I just can't help laughing! cheesy cheesy

But that aside, you're doing well. It's really hard to put enough time aside for exercising whilst working. Difficult but not unachievable - and you're doing fine. Re: the escalators, I know exactly what you mean. I too do that sometimes. Not running up though, but walking briskly upwards while most people stand to the right. cheesy

Not good. You need to chew your food and give your stomach less work to do, girl. cheesy

Like Edwife mentioned, choosing to eat healthily shouldn't feel like such a chore. More importantly, I think you need to decide what your short term and long term goals are. If weight loss is one of them, dieting alone won't cut it. You'll need to throw in a couple of exercises to achieve that. If on the other hand you're aren't looking at weight loss but aiming to maintain your weight, then you can make up your diet as you go along, to suit your needs.

For me, weight loss is my number one priority. Once I've achieved my desired goal weight, then, I'd be looking to maintain that weight and that's when I might switch my exercises to focus mostly strength building ones, rather than fat burning and endurance exercises. So, since I'm keen to keep on shedding those lbs, I make up diets and do exercises that would help me achieve that. As per diets, I've chosen to totally eliminate all:

~ Fats/oily foods (I do feel a little bit guilty about using 2 tablespoons of palm oil for my African stir fry & Bole...)
~ All processed sugars / foods and drinks that contain those - hence my going very natural with fresh fruits and water. No sweets. No cakes. No fizzy drinks. No white/brown/sweetner or sugars.
~ Reduced sodium content / salts. Thus absolutely no ready-made meal. No crisps. No fast foods.

That explains why I've opted for the plain porridge without milk or sugars. I still get my complex carb slowly releasing energy throughout the day from the porridge. My sugars from a wide assortment of fruits. And of course, lots and lots of green vegs. I love cucumbers, lettuce, broccli, brussel sprouts, green peas, green beans/lentils, ugwu (pumpkin leaves), and cress. On the other hand, I absolutely detest leeks and spring onions. So you see, it's all about experimenting with foods that would help you achieve your desired goals. smiley smiley
My short term goal is to lose some weight and tone up my body muscles. But I am trying to go about it by doing having a more everyday healthy living active lifestyle approach.i have done the whole get gym membership, join certain classes, do Atkins diet, do Cambridge diet etc and I realise that I lose the weight I am motivated for a while and in between I just begin to drop off the wagon(so to speak) and I am right back to square 1.

I stumbled on a page on Instagram called healthy everyday living and her approach is what I am following at the mo. I try to exercise every single day, some days might be an intense 1 hr cardioworkout routine, some days squats/press ups/weights etc. Some days it might be setting my pedometer to 15,000 steps and getting off the train a few stops before and walking in to work, running up the escalators at Bank station(now I can't even just stand on escalators I have to run up it except am with the kids)using the upstairs bathroom at work etc. Some days it's running, skipping, jogging, dance workouts but I just have to make sure I do some sort intense physical activity everyday. Some days I manage two hours some days 30 mins. I can see the pounds gradually dropping off and most of my trousers/clothes are now looking funny on me but I am trying hard not to get carried away by that. It's a long term thing for me because i have lost weight so many times staying motivated has always been my issue.

That porridge embarassed na wa. In my mind I was like warrisdis na who send me message. But I like pushing myself .I have thrown out all my sweetners and have taken Edwife advise and now use one one tsp of brown sugar with my tea .Or I use honey. Last night sef I had one of my fruit teas with nothing at all sef so I know I will get there eventually.

Well done everyone you just don't know how many people you might be motivating. One thing I have realised is that you can get a lot of motivation online esp if you don't have anyone physically pushing towards that goal. fitness/healthy eating buddies help to motivate you when you are about to drop off the wagon. They are sooo important. I have gotten a lot of keep fit and healthy living food ideas online and they are indeed a life saver. I am even in a group on FB called WEW women encouraging women to workout and it's awesome.so many inspiring stories on there.

edwife:
Dami diet is not a torture,it is a lifelong commitment so you need to make it as comfortable and fun for yourself.

Many go for what they are not comfortable and give up quickly, you can add a lot of healthy stuff to your oat-it does not have to be bland.

You can add blueberries, bananas or honey, still very healthy if not more.

When you think diet, think lifelong palate,health,fun,experiment....so many rule sometimes makes it boring. Don't overhaul your entire diet—make small changes that you will be able to maintain for a very long time.
Edwife don't mind me o I am trying to challenge my palate that's why I decided to try the bland oats.

I am definitely not going down the diet diet route(been there done that was even on Cambridge diet when I found out I was pregnant with my son). It's a total lifestyle thing for me so instead of dieting I am making healthier choices and practising portion control. Also trying to eat more fruit and veg and cutting out unnecessary snacking in between meals. I more or less eat the same food but in a healthier way e.g instead of frying meat fish plantain etc i bake or grill, instead of pouring oil in my my porridge I measure with a spoon swapped white sliced bread to wholemeal pitta bread and stuff like that.

I just wanted to see if I could actually have my porridge bland and like you can see my palate is saying no grin embarassed

Too many rules killing the spontaneity in marriages -
He should do this, she should do that
It's not about rules, marry someone who at least likes you a lot (and that you like a lot too) if you can't find one who loves you head over heels
If you can be buddies, your relationship will go that much smoother
Don't get bogged down with dos and don'ts
She must be able to cook, he must be able to cook, she must wash clothes, he must wash clothes and all the other distractions
Marriage should start with friendship and deciding what you can accommodate/tolerate with the right person
In the end, there is little that is non-negotiable

Plain porridge is soooo good. I don't even need it with fruits, but I add them, just to fulfill all righteousness. smiley

Give it time. I think it's because your palate is still used to processed sugar / sweeteners, that's why you find the taste of plain porridge unbearable. smiley

Your salad / meal is excellent. I see you removed the skin from your chicken - well done. You still need your carbs though. For energy. Follow the 50-30-20 rule. Use it as your guideline and you'll be fine. smiley
Ok oo I hope so ..you know when you just shove food down your throat lipsrsealed so you don't taste it that's what I did this morning.I washed it down with water cheesy But I guess I can if I put my mind to it.

It takes keeping at it and your body or palate just gets used to the good stuff. I find it difficult it very difficult eating deep fried food these days.I take out kitchen towel and start squeezing the oil or my stomach just starts feeling queasy at the look of it.Me that I love puff puff I could only eat one last Sunday when someone brought it to church..all the oil stains in foil pan just put me off.I was so shocked at myself.

God bless whoever invented the oil spray even that sef I have mastered how to use sparingly or not at all.

Ok let me confess I added roast chicken embarassed I nefa reash to chop veg without carbs or protein. cheesy see below the actual meal

No skin though and it was roast chicken breast. I tried bland oats this morning. Yuk. Normally have Alpen fruit and nuts or granola with fruit and yoghurt but efemenaxy I don't think that bland one is for me o. The bananas made it a bit bearable though

It really is. Plantain is a complex carb that is rich in iron,it's just knowing how to eat it in a healthy way. My kids like it boiled but I find it too squishy. I used spinach cos I have not been able to go African food shopping.

Lots of good advise you have received. If lazy me grin can do it with my first, you can do it.

My church member did the belly pressing thing for a week ( I hated it so much) told her I was ok after that and hubby continued for a few days till I stopped letting him know when I was taking my bath grin.

When it's just both you most sensible men will have no option than to muck in. I was a bit lucky as hubby had 4 weeks off work 2 weeks paternity and 2 weeks annual leave. If you are coming to the UK midwives visit you every 2 days for first 7 days the health visitor takes off and visit you weekly or bi weekly till the 6 week check.

You will be fine honey .May God grant you and your precious lil one safe delivery and good health.
