Okay, having been inspired by the likes of chillisauce, Damiso, and a poster from the sister thread, I decided to bite the bullet and make my own Bole stir fry.

My first attempt!

Ingredients: grilled brine fish (seasoned with dried pepper, salt, and fish seasoning), chopped red, green and yellow bell peppers, onions, frozen mushrooms, 2 tablespoons of palm oil, ugwu and a Maggie cube.
Nice one Efe.. You sure do know how to make a proper spread

are they complaining?

What business do you have with their private lives they never discussed with you about?

How sure are you they have not gone to a better and stronger native doctor than the one you know?

From your write-up, the couples are living their lives happily and are not complaining. I see no reason why you should use Aspirin for another person's pain.

In summary, it is none of your business and minding one's business is a great virtue. Your offer may even make them keep their distance from you knowing that whatever challenges arises in the compound, they know who is likely to find the shortest way out. You will be treated like a plague.

So bro, mind your business

I've discovered that one thing that helps control cravings such as these is to NOT buy the stuff in the first place. That makes it easier to bear. For example, I lovvvve the microwaveable buttered popcorn and could easily eat 3 sachets in a day. But, since I'm 95% of the time in charge of the household food shopping, I make conscious efforts not to buy stuff that I find hard to resist, and instead, stock up on more fruits and veg. Additionally, I always get the "feel good factor" when at the checkout till with the bulk of my shopping consisting mostly of healthy fruits and veg. A lady even commented on it as per, "you've got a healthy selection there..." cheesy

Also, knowing that fruits and veg will do my family a whole lot more good than bags of crisps / chocolates / cakes is another inspiration in itself. Anything to avoid childhood obesity.

Anyway, it's easier to not buy something you have a weakness for, than to buy it and then try resisting the urge to eat it at home.
No not really it was more like stomach ulcers.very horrible Sharp pains in the upper abdomen. So my doctor told me to cut out fixzy drinks totally. At that time I used to have minimum 4 bottles or cans of coke a day. I had to stop and not had the illness since I have.

The key like you said Efe if you don't have it at home you won't eat it. I throw away most of the party packs the kids get from parties as some contain an outrageous amount of sweets.

Yam porridge and steamed spinach. Made the porridge with 1 tablespoon of rapeseed oil.

I started using small bowls and plates for portion control and I have really seen the difference.

I am trying very hard,it has been a month and i am still standing.
Well done its hard I know but hang in there..now I look at coke and I can't believe I was once addicted to it.

We don't buy fizzy drinks at all and I am gradually phasing out fruit juices too.Its just a bit awkward when you have unexpected visitors and you can only offer water.

Thanks.

Easy with the almonds, though healthy they are packed with lots and lots of calories. Not good if you are not exercising enough or your work is not too mobile wink
100g of almond is like a half cup of fufu lipsrsealed grin
Yes o very calorific.. I try to take like a fistful a day I.e like 25g at a time.Don't mind me am just too tight grin there are smaller portion cups in the shops that are like 40g but I said why buy 40g for £1 when this 200g is £2.40 Lai Lai I be Nigerian gal I will put in cup myself grin grin

All those small size packaged stuff are a bloody rip off. The other day I wanted to buy melons and one small cup was like £2.50 when I can buy a whole melon for £2. Mbanu they should look for another way to cheat me I be ijebu gal grin

I have gone off coke soda too after decades of addiction. My tea or coffee has to be decaf but I add semi skimmed milk to a strong brew and am good to go. But if you dont do milk, drink your tea with a squeeze of lemon, The tart taste will remove the crave for sweetness. You could gradually reduce the sugar till you go off completely.

Kudos anyway for the healthy move.
Thank you. It was hard with the coke thing but I guess if I could do that guess I could do the sugar too.

Bank Holiday over embarassed my lunch prep taking in my own lunch and snacks In allows me curb eating unhealthy stuff.

The Almonds are for the whole week and they are really filling with water for that mid morning snack.

Chillisauce that cous cous looks yummy.

I kinda agree to an extent about spending money that is non existent or people going Into debt. But if the deceased was looked after and its not a strain on their finances why not?

I used to think it was a Nigerian or African thing until I attended the burial of my friend's English grandmother. They did not cook like we would cook but these people spent over £5,000 on flowers shocked shocked shocked .flower that will die huh The coffin nko? The whole funeral cost over £20,000 and all we ate was sandwiches and sausage rolls cheesy

The main difference though is that slightly more well to do white people tend to save towards their funerals so as not to over burden their children or loved ones.

Poor people everywhere struggle with funeral costs and for some people in the UK the local authority has to come to the family's aid for people to be buried. The average costs of a UK funeral i.e a burial or cremation, is £3,456. Non well to do people who will cook and do party in Nigeria might not spend that much. I don't I spent up to that when my dad died.(Muslim burial though and my dad hated parties)

Our own pomp and pageantry though is not necessarily associated to the actual costs of laying to the earth or cremation so I guess that's where culture comes to play.

Ah Dami, I see Ed's already suggested a solution to you. Efe's the very wrong person to ask about teas / coffees and sugar alternatives. I've completely given up on all three. I drink only water. I don't do white / brown/ sweetners et al. I get my sugar from fruits in their purest form, straight from the farm. cheesy

My suggestion? Give up teas and coffees. Or, you could go for the green herbal / lemon tea. I hear it's quite good. smiley
Haa Efe wan kill person grin give up tea embarassed iv already switched to herbal/green tea( most of those in my picture are flavoured green teas/camomile/fennel/lemon) but to give up totally Hian I don't know o. I will try sha. Drink more water now though. Will try to limit it to 2 cups a day max and then drink more water in between.

Edwife ok I will go back to brownsugar/honey. Will use just one satchet of those ones they provide in my office(yuk imagine that on green tea but staying healthy is a sacrifice embarassed)

For those of you who gave up bread totally how did you do it? I have given up white and the normal sliced variant I have just whole wheat pitta bread now(see picture) and just one or two at at time but to give up bread totally I just don't know. One of my friends is trying to get us to do a no bread AT ALL for one month challenge but I no think say I fit o.

I am addicted to coffee and tea too,but i take them with honey or half teaspoon of granulated or brown sugar.Never use sweetener, they are artificial.

Less than 25 percent of your daily calories should come from the added sugar in foods like cookies, cereal, and ketchup. To satisfy your sweet tooth-especially if you're counting calories, limiting carbs.

A friend of mine who is a nutritionist told me about these sugar alternatives which are the latest made from stevia, an herb found in Central and South America that is up to 40 times sweeter than sugar but has zero calories. You will find them in store,SWEETLEAF AND TRUVIA.

Thanks edwife I will try this one.I tried Truvia its disgusting embarassed

I try to use honey as well but was kinda not keen on leaving it in my drawers at work. They get sticky after some time.

So do you think Brown sugar is actually healthier than sweetners? I buy brown sugar for hubby but I don't use it.

Sorry for gate crashing guys but need ideas and tips on managing my sugar intake. I have been able to eliminate fizzy drinks (was addicted to coke used to have like 4 bottles a day but I am proud to say I have not had a bottle of Coke or fizzy drinks in about 9 yrs). I am not a chocolate or dessert person. my kids or people buy me chocolate for mothers etal and I give them out. I have the occasional biscuit once in a while cake etc.

My issue now is my morning cuppa or coffee. I take my coffee and tea black but It must be sweet. I can't do without tea I can do without coffee but if I have not had tea in a day (including summer) it's like something is missing.i switched to fruit and herbal teas but It still has to be sweet. I first switched to Brown sugar then I read reviews that said its still calorie packed. Then honey(still use honey ) but it's not compact to take to work. Then i switched to sweetners (Splenda) at work. Now I read reviews on how artificial sweetnees were banned in Japan as they are linked to cancer.i then bought stevia a plant based sweetner but It had this disgusting bitter after taste(defeats the purpose does it not embarassed) also been reading that it also causes cancer.

Wetin girl go do now, I need my tea but I need it sweet. Tips please

Children say the oddest and meanest things to each other. Inherently children are selfish and tend to throw tantrums or say horrible things when things don't go their way it's up to parents and responsible adults to channel those emotions and try to let them see that they have to consider others and the world does not revolve around them.
