FamilyRe: Are You A Happily Married Man? Family Section Needs You by damiso(f):
dabossman:
I'm a happily married man and I must say that I've never really visited the family section until a couple of topics made front page in the last two days. Somehow, my first impression was that the family segment seems to be a place where all men are put into a box and classified as bad. I kept seeing ladies saying "most men", "most African men", "most Nigerian men" are this or that, believe this or that, and I wondered why the generalization.
I love my wife to bits and do everything I can within my power and resources to make life good for her and my kid. I also know several couples who are happy (at least as far as the naked eye can see) and I know many men and women who give their all for their family. Marriage is no picnic, so there will be ups and downs and sometimes husband and wife will annoy each other extremely. That's normal and shouldn't now result in labeling one gender bad.
As I said in one of the threads that was on FP two days ago, any single guy or lady can come here on a faceless forum and blow hot and cold, bragging about what they can or can't accept from any man or woman in marriage. Those of us in it know it is a union of many compromises. You give some, you take some, most times you try to find a middle ground on most issues. There is no one size fits all format in marriage. Whatever works for you I say. Of course there are areas of no compromise, like physical, emotional and verbal abuse. That should never be allowed in marriage.
I'll try and visit some more anyway. Hopefully, issues on the thread won't always degenerate into a men vs. women battle. Marriage is not a competition.
Very Nice and realistic post... One persons nice husband might be Mr Wimp to another woman and annoy her to death.

Call me "crazy" if thou wilst...but I've already started on my xmas shopping...bought two 5.40kg sized frozen turkeys from the supermarket.

I think I've learnt my lesson from last year - i.e: not going for the largest on display so I don't end up fighting to push the bird into the oven! Also got my Christmas cake, Pudding, Ribbons and Cards. More to come though.

Oya ladies in the house, who else has started? Chaircover? (I remember you said you get yours straight from the turkey farm?), Moca? Damiso? Edwife? Naijababe? Jennykadry? Any other takers, girls?
I try not to think about Christmas till December but this one they they have switched on the lights at Oxford circus today (why the rush naa undecided) I guess I can't escape grin it.Not started shopping yet but should start soon.Thankfully my kids are still little so they still believe they have to be good for Santa. grin we are even the ones hosting this year (grrr embarassed embarassedlazy wife talking grin) so I better get on with it.i dont know why I can't have the holidays to just eat and watch series like naijababe grin

Have you tried using a balloon whisk or hand blender to whisk some air into the bean flour paste when you prepare akara?

If you are going to cook in the oven, use those disposable foil containers. If you use a large oven pan, the moin moin does not cook properly in the middle
Ok that's what I use in the pot as well anyway. Just means no pot to wash grin

naijababe:
There are many brands, I can only swear by the Tropicana brand. I tend to eat moin moin in the morning so I soak overnight with boiling water. But I have tried using beans after soaking for like 30mins and it works just as well.

You are a lucky girl, I recently sent a recipe via email so here is the copy paste.

1 scotch bonnet pepper, 2 red bell peppers 1 medium red onion, 1 clove of garlic and 1 egg for every one and a half cup.
Smoked mackerel fillets ( Asda or Sainburys)
Beef kidneys.
Boil the beef kidney as you would boil your meat normally and put aside.
Blend the beans together with peppers, garlic and onion and pour in a bowl.
Cut the kidneys into small pieces and blend with a bit of water, you need just enough water to blend the meat. Pour into the blended beans, mash the mackerel fillets with your fingers and add to the beans mixtures. Crack the egg into the mixture and beat the mixture together. You want make sure it mixes well. Add oil, maggi and salt to your preference.
Pour into tin foils and either steam in a big pot, cover the pot with either a nylon bag before covering with the pot cover and allow to steam for 35 minutes. The second method for cooking which I prefer is to put in the oven at 160 deg for 35 to 40 minutes.....I hope you will like your results..smiley
Thanks and will also try with the oven. .there is this food blog I follow 9jafoodie he even uses oven pans for moi moi will def try it.

dont mind Crackhaus. That's how he will go and quarrel with his lady if she doesn't finish making the moi moi in an hour. Because he thinks washing beans takes 15 mins. Lol
They even sell already peeled beans here and bean cake flour.

As the lazy woman that i am I have tried both grin grin and to be honest the beans you peel yourself tastes better. The bean flour is horrible the moi moi came out as hard as olumo rock angry with the already peeled beans it tasted funny.so it was back to peeling for me *sighs*

I am looking for the gadget that will make ironing the pleats in my daughters school skirt 2 mins max.that darn thing takes forever to iron angrymy OCD also comes into play here embarassed as the pleats must stand individually for me to be satisfied) my husband who is normally the better ironer even makes it worse as he just irons it straight thereby making the pleats more rumpled.

And pls don't say hand wash and then hang(my mums solution)

Yes you can use the same pressure pot for cow leg and tail wash it throughly and use for beans as well. But if you don't have one yet just buy a slow cooker.

You and me both for short cut. I prefer a slow cooker to a pressure cooker. Slow cookers do a much better job and are much more versatile. I can cook whole chicken, meat joints and whatnot in them.

That okra thing eh! Sometimes when I am even feeling super lazy, I let my kids do it. The pulling is fun for them grin
