You're already taking the right step. After A+, go N+ - don't write the certs. Just get the knowledge and then get on with CCNA. Read as much as you can. Practice! Practice!!

Guys the best option save and buy CCIE lab kit on Ebay or Amazon. Am gradually saving for that though. However i haven't done a research on VIRL but with the extent of what GNS3 provides and tweaking the switch which is a living hell, I wish to see VIRL do more. @DanIndia pls could you provide me with links to some IOS images

I sort of agree with this.

IMO, I believe whether or not a visa will be granted is solely at the VO's discretion and you never can tell. BTW, things do change. Maybe VISAS are denied for a few first time travelers but regardless of whether GOETHE Institute is in Nigeria doesn't mean the idea of going to Germany to learn the language or write an exam is ruled out. I'll tell you this from experience. I applied for a Visa at X Embassy once and they had institutes in Nigeria that I could get the same training from. On the day of my interview, the officer asked me why I didn't opt to take the course in Nigeria and I gave them a response that may as well have had the Interviewer write an Institute's (situated in Nigeria) contact info on my documents. I remember what he said - get a letter from one of the institutes that says they don't have a problem with this. I knew this was truly unprofessional but I did get the letter and in the end, I got the VISA. All that, this was on a new passport and I did not attach previous passport with my application. Before and after I got my visa, lots of people were denied but I wasn't. So would anyone say that because the others were denied, it is impossible to get a visa for such reason? Of course NOT. Keep in mind that this was years ago and a lot has changed since then.

And before you even tell me, I know say NAIJA get red flag for such countries but if your purposes are genuine and can defend your plans, you'll get your VISA. Just because it didn't work for the others doesn't mean it won't work for you.

That being said, with experiences I've read on this forum and the latest advancements in technology, you can sit for almost any sort of exam on your PC. But again, some schools require you sit for the exam in the UNI and they'll even mail the Embassy the same. In such cases, the visa will be granted provided the VO is satisfied with whatever you've tendered for visa application and doesn't see you as a potential RUNAWAY cheesy
Zeeblamj01:
In this case u are wrong... A lot of people do this procedure. All schools are different. And the invitation letter from the school says it all. Most times the school goes as far as to contact the aliens office and the embassy. It's very possible to get that visa. Don't say it's easy though. The embassy in Lagos to be honest , are not people friendly. But with the right aproach, and an invitation from the school and all other necessary documents, it should work. I've heard that it does. And the chances of u not getting admitted are slim to be honest. Even if u fail there might be other options...

CareerRe: Cisco STUDY GROUP (online) by DanIndia(op): 1:55am On Sep 15, 2015
I have done my research already. VIRL is nowhere close to as efficient as GNS3.
VIRL doesn't support serial connections, vendor depend, 15 switches simulation limitation, very hard to setup and a lot more. You can't even bridge a live gear into it. All that VIRL can do, you can actually do with GNS3. VIRL works in between virtual hosts. You can do that with GNS3 and with WireShark capture whatever traffic between them. VIRL is good but I don't think it can ever be close to GNS3.

Plus, it doesn't even fit in the requirements for a CCIE so another big thumbs down.
incrediblestev:
Well my friend it now has the ability to do so....Like I said before, I have seen a video where the catalyst switch ios which in the VIRL environment is being referred to as IOSv.... Not only can you do switching on but also NX-IOS, thats Data center switching....So GNS3 dose not stand a chance here....But the good thing here is that, some people are already coming up with ways to run these IOSv and the likes on GNS3 like they did with the IOU L2 and L3 switches which I am currently using for my switching.....So yes, go do your research, it can switch now....the early release couldn't latest August release can damn well do switching with so much ease.

CareerRe: Cisco STUDY GROUP (online) by DanIndia(op): 5:32pm On Sep 14, 2015
WAIT. You mean could simulate catalyst switches on it without having to deal with the drag ? I still don't think so yet.. at least until I'm proven wrong. As setting up switcges on GNS3 are a pain
rhymz:
GNS3 is a powerful learning tool once you can get past the bugs and you are using it for R&S at CCNA/NP level studies and labbing. But for Ike Data tracks like Data Centre, Security or Service provider, GNS3 comes short in comparison to this new offering from Cisco. Cisco operating systems that are ASICS specific to the hardware gears like the catalyst IOS, or the Nexus switches used for Data centre and Cloud service routers for SP are a headache to run on GNS3 where as thus new offering will be doing all these. Trust me, people are going to jump on this one and leave GNS3 in the lurch.

I have a video of INE's Brian McGahan going through configurations on all these other cisco IOS that GNS3 can't properly emulate and it was clean and straight forward, you won't have to spend half of your study time trouble shooting gns3 and all that crap.... I will be getting it soon if my ogas them no wan talk well.
CareerRe: Cisco STUDY GROUP (online) by DanIndia(op): 1:22pm On Sep 14, 2015
Is that the minimum requirement for it? That's not really good. GNS3 doesn't really lag - it only lags if the PC can't take the load.
snipesdam:
Wow this is good and requires a core i7 processor and 8gb-16gb ram config system, to avoid lagging like GNS.

Thank you for sharing, Stev. I've known VIRL since before it was even released. It's just not gaining attention as the other simulators. I am not sure how it is now though but I might just give it a try as I am planning to either buy live gears sometime soon or invest on a brutal workstation. How much does the Personal edition cost ?

CareerRe: Cisco STUDY GROUP (online) by DanIndia(op): 3:11am On Sep 14, 2015
R1# copy running-config startup-config.. why didn't this work ? Thus should work on any environment as it is the full command. In fact, Cisco should be happy that Engineers are using the full command hehe
snipesdam:
Yes the tab works, but some commands are taken out during the simulation. Like the R1#(config) do wr, or R1# copy running-config startup-config. This will give an error saying %command not implemented% which means that such commands exists but its not implemented so i decided to be calm and contd.
TravelRe: Italian Student Visa-help! by DanIndia(m): 3:10am On Sep 14, 2015
Oh my. I am not sure how that works. Can you try and reach the school because you need to have a document called DOV and before then (sometime around May - July) you should have pre-enrolled. Weren't you asked to do this ?
Some business schools do not require DOV so I think you should reach out to your UNI and get back on here with an update.

diddykul:
I didn't pre-enrol. I just saw the offer and I applied and I was given admission.
CareerRe: Cisco STUDY GROUP (online) by DanIndia(op): 5:49am On Sep 11, 2015
It does work sometimes. I've heard such before but I believe it differs from center to center. Just type the full config and you should be good to do. IF I remember clearly, I even used the tab completion.
snipesdam:
Studied for 3 months and did some lab sims. Cisco tested me on 3 lab simulations and one evaluation with 4 questions. gotta be very composed. Note that write memory and copy run start won't work as it was disabled on the simulation. Almost got frustrated trying to save my config and was wondering why....

TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by DanIndia(m): 2:52am On Sep 08, 2015
@sonyville, I understand some lecturers can be a pain, but no matter what - do not manipulate any sort of document!!! Let your admission approval be based on total honesty. Try others too, even lecturers that you've had just a single course with or volunteer with on some sort of activity (Red Cross, Media Presentations whatnot). Trust me, don't even think of forging/manipulating any doc whatsoever. The system will come back and bite you in the butt and will raise scrutiny on Nigerians in whatever UNI you are planning to apply to. I am speaking because the story you hear from International Offices about Nigerian students are not as pleasant as those from other countries. Believe me, Naija get history for schools outside too. From forging payment slips to submitting fake documents. It has gone so bad that even some UNI's require you submit the ORIGINAL certificates upon enrollment and they hold it through to when you graduate. And don't just say it's a recommendation letter, noone will find out. You never can tell.

That being said, all the best in your Applications.

bro, I have been in your shoes... grin ... I know exactly how it feels like. Those lecturers can form Enemy of Progress ehn.. What lmuhopeful says is correct, I am not disputing the fact, and You still have some time to seek out other recommenders... Try that option, but if it fails and time is no longer your friend, PM me. I'd let you in on a lil secret only a privileged few Ogas on here know about.
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by DanIndia(m): 7:37pm On Sep 06, 2015
So you HAS got these marks without having to read ? I promise I won't say GERRARAHIA.
Impressive scores by the way. I'll strongly disagree with you if you tell me you didn't have to practice for the IELTS writing though grin. Even a native English user practices for the writing tasks as they do not weigh your marks on a proficiency scale but on Analysis and Presentation.

pompido:
Smiling: Sis, I studied electronics/computer engr for 5years and luckily had me a PC and later a laptop all through my studies (school and certifications (more than 5) mostly done on my PC). This is just to try and point to the fact that I am close to being a native PC user grin .

In the order I took the exams

TOEFL 106 attempt 1(lowest score in reading 24, highest writing 30)

IELTS. 8.5 only attempt. Lowest in writing 7.5, highest in reading 9.0

TOEFL 107 attempt 2. Lowest in speaking 23, highest in writing 30)

Reasons why I wrote them 3times? Inbox me cheesy.

I didn't need to get better at these exams because I do not need to read for them so I can only be objective in my opinion when I say that from my experience, whether they make both exams CBT or not; IELTS is the easier all things maintaining status quo.

But then what do I know...
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by DanIndia(m): 7:30pm On Sep 06, 2015
Are you kidding ? Cost of living in Germany is not so high. So far, it's the cheapest that I know of in the EU. You could even get a dorm for 200 EUROS. Try Milan or Copenhagen, that's the least you'll pay for a shared double room. Studying abroad is expensive and it sometimes, costs a fortune. But keep in mind that it is worth it. International degree and global connections don't come so cheap.
victz:
@Zeeblamjo1, Futurewise11, DanIndia and those currently living in Germany. Please, why is it that the cost of accommodation in Germany is so high? Is it that there are lack of availability of housing/infrastructure in Germany or what is exactly the problem? It's like this problem is also affecting their own citizens. A German student studying at the University of Tubingen decided to be living in a train because of this same problem. She said that the cost of living in a train is cheaper than keeping her rented apartment in Stuttgart. And this problem is almost everywhere in Germany. It's even worse in bigger cities like Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt etc.

If a student should be paying €300 per month out of €670 withdrawn from blocked account monthly for accommodation and another €90 for insurance it means that he/she will be left with €280 for the rest of the month. I know that student jobs after few months can serve as compliments but is there nothing the government is doing to address this issue?

1. Strong ties are work or family. Job offer letter or If your brother is married or has an old parent that he takes care of. (Wife, Kids)
2. I'm not so sure but business man living in Germany and sponsoring him ? That sounds like a red flag especially when the business man is Nigerian.
3. No visa is hard to obtain as long as your purpose is genuine but keep in mind that that has been abused in the recent past.

This shouldn't be a problem at all. I once had a flight for 5am and I had no problem getting to the airport even at that time.
Traveling in Lagos at the early hours is like surfing on an empty highway haha though you go still see people o. Na Lagos we dey talk so.
Just arrive Lagos a day earlier, go to one of those taxi ranks and book two cabs. Make sure it is two o (because one can oversleep). Make arrangements with them to pick you up at around 2-3am the next morning. They'll be more than glad to do so.
If one fails to make it, the other will.

Bon voyage

Yes I can advice them to do TOEFL.
I dropped a link of a TOEFL pack to download months back.. There are about 22 past exams one can practice with in it.. It's a Simulator..

http://www.4shared.com/zip/P3mexyAP/TOEFL_TPO__Mitsu_Licensed_.html

BUT.. Someone I know that follows this German thread said he just Freestyled the IELTS exam.. He didn't practice jack nd had 6.5
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by DanIndia(m): 7:09pm On Aug 30, 2015
Really ? I never knew about that TOEFL o. IELTS, I believe, listening section is a walk in the park. The writing can be a bit tricky though.
I've never had to register for TOEFL but the registration procedure for IELTS was easy. It just took a minute or two and that was it. True - most schools are OK with 6.0. But if you were to advise someone on which cert to sit for - would you have them do TOEFL ? Based on the experience and the questions repetition.
twinkle1:
Yea I get you.. No ish

A lot of people say IELTS is easier than TOEFL nd the registration is easier.. But do know TOEFL is very predictable? smiley
The same format every year in fact if I think they repeat their questions sef! Just little tweaks here and there..

But the good news is that German schools don't really send your toefl or IELTS score o.. Most schools are OK with 80+ or 6.0.. The top schools requiring 90+ or 6.5+ still very OK..
Compared to UK and US top schools heheheheeh..
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by DanIndia(m): 6:43pm On Aug 30, 2015
True that. Most UK Universities still accept it - I didn't say it was ruled out.
twinkle1:
I agree with you Lmuhopeful...

And for the TOEFL /IELTS have been seeing of late on here .
If u check the website of top schools in the UK, you will see their toefl requirements and they still accept it.

If you want to apply to German institutions. TOEFL is as valid as IELTS.

There's a preference for IELTS to TOEFL in the UK all because of that TOEIC saga last year.
But I think everything is now OK.
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by DanIndia(m): 6:33pm On Aug 30, 2015
lmuhopeful, I think you're getting me wrong. I never said a country rejected TOEFL, did I? I clearly stated and I quote "IELTS gain ground pass TOEFL. Your option is vast with IELTS whilst with TOEFL, you only can join a few universities."
This doesn't mean that they'll reject your TOEFL. I'm just saying they'll prioritize IELTS than TOEFL. Given that the British English is accepted and preferred over American in the whole of Europe.
Only American schools would choose TOEFL over IELTS and not even all of them.

EDIT; When I meant a few, I didn't mean literally a few universities, that would be in thousands smiley
lmuhopeful:
Sorry but this isnt totally accurate. Apart from the UK which seemed to place a ban of TOEFL over their IELTS, no other country rejects TOEFL scores. Or do you have proof to the contrary?
