All American football fans (both college and NFL) here is your forum. |
Torture is never right. Two wrongs never make a right. Even if they want to torture someone at least they should be more humane like using the application of waterboarding (what the US use for suspected terrorists and what they used for Denzel Washington's character in the movie "safe house") all those other methods barely work. |
Aigbofa: There is danger in allowing people who doesn't know you to define you. People have used the same type of sentiments expressed by Lugard to justify their brutality against Africans, even up till today.I understand that but the greatest brutality against blacks has usually being by other black (slavery, genocide etc) so its not as if what the man was saying didn't have some accuracy to it. Other countries switch on the TV and see what is going on in Africa with the civil wars, starvation and brutal atrocities and they probably say "why can't this guys get it together", then you come on nairaland and you see the citizens of the country fanning the flames of hate. What's the difference between the hate mongers on nairaland and the ones causing chaos in the country, i guess its only a lack of a weapon that separates them from there colleagues out there. I am sorry to tell you, but amigo its time we started looking inward at ourselves and worrying less about what other people observe about us. |
Aigbofa: Lord Lugard probably had a little more than casual relationship with alcohol. What arrant nonsense. Are you serious? if you read some of the nonsense here on this thread you can jump to conclusion that the man was probably right. Look at all the stupid catfighting here on nairaland about people wanting to split up without thinking of the awful consequences and legacy, doesn't that highlight the lack of apprehension the man was talking about? |
mruknaijaboy: Wow! I've neva seen this kinda thing, 2 boyfriends is the minimum for a nigerian girl?!?! And my mum keeps telling me to go to nigeria to find a girl to marry!, err....no thanks mum lol, there's whores here so if i wanted one ders no need for me to travel abroad to marry one who is more money hungry than one hereShebi o, if you think that naija girls are this promiscous, wait till you see the guys (its not as if two wrongs make a right). Me, i have been just like you, i have been hoping to find a good naija girl back home and not the children of naija aristocrats wey full yanki, but the way this looks, i better start looking at the oyinbos and the akatas around. To be fair, |
EWOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOO!!!!! THANK YOU ORIGINAL POSTER FOR THIS REVELATION. I USED TO HAVE THIS IDEALIZED VIEW ABOUT NAIJA GIRLS (NOT THAT NAIJA BOYS ARE ANY BETTER), NOW I DON'T O. I THOUGHT I WOULD LOVE TO MARRY A NAIJA GIRL BUT THANKS TO THIS, I AM WISER. |
When you read the comments on this thread it takes me back to Lord Lugard's comments on Africans. LORD LUGARD ON NIGERIANS AND AFRICANS IN GENERAL 1926 In character and temperament" wrote Lord Lugard, "the typical African of this race-type is a happy, thriftless, excitable person. Lacking in self control, discipline, and foresight. Naturally courageous, and naturally courteous and polite, full of personal vanity, with little sense of veracity, fond of music and loving weapons as an oriental loves jewelry. His thoughts are concentrated on the events and feelings of the moment, and he suffers little from the apprehension for the future, or grief for the past. His mind is far nearer to the animal world than the that of the European or Asiatic, and exhibits something of the animals placidity and want of desire to rise beyond the State he has reached. Through the ages the African appears to have evolved no organized religious creed, and though some tribes appear to believe in a deity, the religious sense seldom rises above pantheistic animalism and seems more often to take the form of a vague dread of the supernatural" He lacks the power of organization, and is conspicuously deficient in the management and control alike of men or business. He loves the display of power, but fails to realize its responsibility ....he will work hard with a less incentive than most races. He has the courage of the fighting animal -an instinct rather than a moral virtue ......In brief, the virtues and defects of this race-type are those of attractive children, whose confidence when it is won is given ungrudgingly as to an older and wiser superior and without envy .......Perhaps the two traits which have impressed me as those most characteristic of the African native are his lack of apprehension and his ability to visualize the future" |
Come on, i know that the reason for this sentence is to ban future deterrents but the question we should always ask ourselves is does the punishment fit the crime? If the answer is no then this is unjust. There needs to be a balance between punishment for a crime and deterring future crimes like this happening often. |

I think its talking about the Jews, they still don't believe that Jesus is the Christ. They believe that the messiah is still coming. This Jews still believe that salvation only belongs to the Jews and not to the Gentiles. So i think the verse is saying that eventually they would be grafted in. Maybe in future there is going to be a great revival amongst the Jews and that they would turn to Jesus. I guess that's what "grafted in" means. |
Spidyy: Yourbas still haven't answered my question: Major Gen.Aguiyi Ironsi was exectued in a merciless coup along side Lt conel Fajuyi now let's not forget the hausas staged a counter coup because corrupt Ahmahdu Bello and Tafawa belewa were killed and not because of the interest of the first republic. WHAT DID THE YORUBAS DO? ANS: Nothing!WOW!!! What stupid reasoning! maybe we are not violent warmongers like you who cannot solve conflict with dialogue and reasoning but always thinking about fighting and you wonder why some people in the rest of the world watch the fighting in Africa on CNN and BBC and call Africans savages who have not evolved. Ask all the igbo people who lost family and loved ones in a war that they lost (and a war that could have been avoided) if all that sacrifice was worth it. Boy, i hate it when people like playing the victim and complaining that other people are not having enough sympathy for there people, (oh, woe is me, look what my people have suffered, look what happened to my ancestors before i was born, blah, blah, blah) |
What ? put the face of a traitor of the Federal republic on a national monument of the same country he tried to split apart? Really?? boy, the reasoning of some people self, na wa o. |
10. Shave off all Nigeria armpit, private hair and wash yourself with their deodorant soap. You don't need to shave your armpits, you just need to use deodorants especially the type that has anti-perspirant in it, like speed stick, old spice red zone and co. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR ANYONE COMING INTO THE COUNTRY. A lot of Naija people are usually deluded into thinking that they don't have B.O. while those around them know they do but wouldn't want to embarrass them or hurt there feelings. |
1. Somebody fall or injure.. Nor say SORRY ... Ask am are u okay? 2. can I buy coke or mineral...... No. say ...I want soda or pop... Coke can land u in jail. 3. you have to pay tax on every item... Incuding ashewo tax. 4. Taxi na meter and the money dey start from tax not from zero 5. Have alternative for accommodation, even your brother will disappoint you and blame akata/oyinbo wife. 6. Be careful with girls some are 15 and look 30.. Them go even show u fake id..express road to jail be that. 7. If you mess, sneeze or cough...say excuse me 8. Wash all your Nigeria clothes with their detergent and softener to remove Nigeria Akpu, stock-fish, and beans smell. 9.try to learn to reduce your accent, or else u will drive taxi or sell ice cream proper. 10. Shave off all Nigeria armpit, private hair and wash yourself with their deodorant soap. To be forewarned is to be forearmed
Funny post, but i whole heartedly disagree with the bolded part. Please Nigerians, NEVER EVER EVER CHANGE YOUR ACCENTS!!!!!!!!!, you sound very foolish when you do it and it becomes harder for people to understand you. All you should do is talk slowly so that people can hear you. There are people like Indians, Chinese, Jamaicans and several people with different accents and they do excellent here in the US without changing there accents like Nigerians try to do. |
Oghene Virgilio!!!!! Those guys where just fortunate to be on teams that had HOF'ers and all-stars! You can't be serious man! I'm mentioning guys like Billups,Nash,Stockton.Kidd and Mark Jackson that actually carried their team and you mention Steve Kerr!!! SMH
I didn't say any of this guys were star point guards, i said that they were actual point guards and not shooting guards masquerading as point guards. There is a difference between a star player and a decent or functional player. |
Boy! extremely tragic. |
sashaa: This question really goes to the married men but married women and other groups of persons who have something to say on this can also contribute. I hear a lot of 'oh, don't be too cheap. Don't throw yourself at him. Let him work n not walk his way into your heart ....etc'WOW!!! Excellent comment. |
stillwater: Never date someone with that at the back of your mind. Do you. The men these days are a far-cry from our fathers. Work at your own pace. If you don't like being rushed, please don't rush yourself. If you are the type that is quite decisive when propositioned, by all means say yes. You are an adult, make decisions for yourself and not what society dictates or what your friends would say. That's wrong. |
Roland17: If the Heats were matched against the Spurs for the Finals last year, i bet u Lebron and the heats would have been swept off, every one is quick to call them an aging team, but that was what was said last year, the level of depth, discipline and professionalism would always see the spurs challenge for the title.I DEFINITELY WOULD AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ONE! But to get to Miami, they still have to get past us which is DEFINITELY not going to happen.
Stephen A is too emotional jare plus he is also erratic and unpredictable! Didn't he predict OKC would win in 5? I'm sure they would have been saying the same thing had OKC won that series The perception is nonsensical! Maybe people just need to give the boy a break! He is not even 24 yet remember? And is already a multi-allstar Even guys like Kidd,Stockton,Jackson,Nash,Billups where not all-stars at this point of their career.
First of all, after the way we so comprehensively dismantled San Antonio (who would have beaten the Heat by the way), a lot of people including myself thought we were going to dismantle the Heat in 5 (even though in public i used to give it to the Heat in 7 games) and the reasoning wasn't misplaced. It was a combination of Westbrook's erratic play, Scott Brooks inability to switch to a zone and overall inexperience. When last did any team win the title with a "Real Point Guard" (Jason Kidd at 38 don't count) I thought its been established that you don't really need a "Real PG" to win the league. Try telling Durant that they ought to trade WestbrookDON'T TELL ME I JUST READ THAT? REALLY?
I think you are too quick to write off the Mavs I can remember this was what they said in the 10-11 season when we got Chandler and Deshawn Williams. Apart from the Lakers and tentatively OKC I don't see any other team head and shoulders ahead of the Mavs. Mark Cuban was too much in a hurry to dismantle that team last season for reasons best known to him. Probably he was looking at potentially getting Dwight and Deron, Obviously that didn't work out but I'd take Team Chemistry over Star Power any day
Uhm, i think you meant Deshawn Stevenson |
Really? Do you think it works that easily? Scorers may be a dime a dozen but that doesn't guarantee they would function with the system on ground You want the OKC to trade Westbrook?? If only I where Mavs GM and you where OKC GM. For whom if I may ask? How many games has he missed since joining the NBA? 0! In 4 seasons do you know how hard it is to find a player like that? A PG that is an excellent rebounder can play defence and actually guard people but is also a top 10 scorer in the league. Plus his assists have improved this year ohh I forgot he is only 23 as well! By all means trade him and let's see how far y'all will go. I'm not saying he is perfect his shot selection is shaky at best but PG's have never been renowned for their shooting! As for the clip don't mind Magic! There is a reason why great players don't make good coaches or GM's. The GOAT is a fantastic example we can all see what he is doing with the Bobcats
Magic and Stephen A. echo some of my sentiments. Westbrook is a source of headache for some of us, he can be too erratic and unpredictable. There is some perception in the league that the guy might not ever be able to develop the decision making ability that some of the upper echelon guards have. That's why i say we trade him for a REAL PG. We can trade this guy for any other point guard in the league (maybe except Derrick Rose). Secondly, i don't need my point guard to be a top 10 scorer in the league (he was actually no. 4 in scoring in the league), i need him to be the QUARTERBACK OF THE TEAM. He needs to know HIS JOB which is to find Durant and get out of the way. There were several times in the Finals when KD couldn't get the ball and i am wondering, is KD actually in the game at at all? Westbrook needs to know his job and stick to it and stop playing HERO-BALL!!!!!!!!! As for the part about Westy being an "execellent" defender; did you guys see Tony Parker take him to school during the San Antonio series this year? If it wasn't for the fact that Scott Brooks decided to put Thabo Sefolosha on TP, San Antonio might have swept us in that series. Finally, about James Harden, would you rather we let him go free at the end of next season (the dude is a budding superstar who averages a whopping 17 pts a game from the bench) or we trade him for someone else? We can't afford to resign him as we might fall into the luxury tax category. |
Roland17: Can they challenge for the west? for sure, but i would place the new Lakers and spurs above them.SPURS?? I can understand the Lake Show but the Spurs Didn't we run them out of the building last year? They still have the same guys that couldn't match our athleticism last year so what makes you think that they can hang with us? |
if what you really want is a baby, go get you one. Your husband will be along shortly. Motherhood has a way of weeding out the lotharios.PRICELESS. |
HAHAHAHHAAHA, What a wonderful article, so many excellent quotes. It should be required reading for all females especially Naija girls especially Number 2. slimyem: Unfortunately, this is not the thinking of a wife. This is the thinking of a teenaged girl. And men of character do not want to marry teenaged girls. Because teenage girls are never happy. And they never feel like cooking, either.HILLARIOUS! |
But would you be able to keep James Harden?? That's where the trouble @
We can trade James Harden for another scorer. Guards like him are a dime a dozen in the NBA but shot blockers like Serge are a premium. Besides, now that we are at it, we can trade Westbrook for A REAL point guard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrxfxpqPeq8&feature=related |
OPE O!!! We have given an extension to Ibaka. |
Chei!!! i miss roasted corn. I never chop am in a looooooooooooooong time. |
Why would I want to do that? From riding on my high horse, I was able to see to rusting rooftops clearly.
Do they have better roofs in Gainesville? |
It's really irritating to look at. I think it's about time to start outlawing it on home/building constructions.
Oh please! Well excuse me Mrs. High and Mighty, why don't you get off your high horse. What an elitist comment. What is it? because you are now leaving in Yankee you can now thumb your nose at the rest of those back home shebi? |
Joe Johnson Come on bro! What has he done at Atlanta? The odd conference semi appearance? The Suns where not winning it all with him anyway! Mike D'Antoni like Don Nelson doesn't know squat about defence and to win a ring you are gonna have to defend sometime!
That's what i am saying bro. If Joe Johnson had stayed in Phoenix rather than go to Atlanta he might have gotten close to winning a championship rather than the frequent first round playoff exits. |
Thank you RVP for the memories. Thanks for all you did for the club. Wish you all the best in your future endeavors. |
@davidif Me I don't blame Nash oh! Dude gave his all to the Suns unfortunately when you have bigs in their prime (Stoudemire)that don't play hard and stay injured or a washed up Shaq it becomes difficult to win stuff! Plus the Suns don't seem interested in winning
I wouldn't put the blame on Amare and co. The biggest reason why that team never won a championship was as a result of Joe Johnson's departure. They were never really able to replace him. Which is so sad considering the fact that they probably were about to revolutionize the NBA with there style of play. Too bad though. |
lol, "but Royal i thought D.Howard was garbage to you" He is, but he damn sure looks good in Purple and Gold. #LetsGoLakers
As awful as it is seeing Howard in the purple and gold, its much worse seeing Steve Nash in one. I remember just seeing a snap shot of it and bouncing my eyes away immediately. Just couldn't bare to even look at it and i'm not even a Suns fan. Come on Stevie (and you Ray Allen) why did y'all cross over to the dark side? |
