TheCongo: My man, there is a difference between discrimination and preference.
We can't talk about discrimination based on skin color in a country like Nigeria.
But you are absolutely comfortable hiring a substandard candidate because he shares the same nationality with you abi? That's called putting sentiment over rational and logical decision making bra.

I guess the proof is in the pudding at the end of the day. Ghana was sent packing after taking last in their group. Talk about mediocrity for a team that had made it out of the first round in there last two world cups.

Yes, but football is a global game and their is nothing wrong in broadening your reach when looking for the best person to lead your team.
Hiring the most qualified is beneficiary for all involved as opposed to using affirmative action to justify an average candidate.

Look bra, there is only one race and its the human race. End of story.

TheCongo: Are you truly suggesting that fighting for equal opportunity is tantamount to been a racist?
Am I been a racist by calling for the advancement of black people in the football industry?
I am all for equal training and education of your citizenry so that they can compete on a global level. this is better than hiring a person simply because he is your preferred skin color.

akiOYIBO: I didn't perceive politics when that guy asserted the black coach of a thing........I didn't perceive ethnicity, or the north vying for power year after year. So, why blabbing?
Bra, hiring a person solely based on skin color is discriminatory.
SportsRe: Kevin-Prince Boateng Revealed What Really Transpired In Ghanian Camp At WC. by davidif: 8:05pm On Jul 07, 2014
TheCongo: The point is that a black person can be the best candidate for the job but he wont get the same chance as a white candidate.
How many times have you heard people saying "We need a white coach". What does that tell you? It just mean that if you are black, don't even think about it. No matter your credentials. And this is the type of attitude people like you are helping to promote by standing against those of us who speak out.
The skin color has a lot to do in those selection process. A white coach will receive more respect and be given more resources and better pay just because he is white.
This is pure racism.
So your way to counter racism or deal with racist is to be racist also? Isn't that called reverse discrimination? shocked

What I am saying is that when you are making important decisions, one should not make a decision based on sentiment but on logic period. Will you select what doctor to carry out an important procedure on your child based on his skin color? I think not! so why is it that when it comes to other important positions we are trying to make ridiculous political statements?
SportsRe: Kevin-Prince Boateng Revealed What Really Transpired In Ghanian Camp At WC. by davidif:
TheCongo: So sad that some Africans are so blinded that they can't even help the black man to be part of the coaching industry.

The purpose of affirmative action is to help those of suffer from discrimination. You don't even realize that Africans have been completely marginalized in the football industry. You are so focus in playing the preacher who is asking us to look the other way when the black man is facing injustice. That is sad, very sad.

Do you truly think that Africans don't have the brain to go for a Pro License? I have yet to see an African managing a European National team. Nevertheless, we have African doctors, engineers, writers, professors ... something is completely wrong here with the football industry? Africans have the brain but they aren't given the opportunity.
You definitely have confirmed what I have been saying. The job of selecting the right head coach is not to correct perceived societal or historical wrongs (it shouldn't even be factored in), it should be about finding the right people for the job irrespective of background or something as trivial as skin melanin content. Come on people! This is the head coaching position of the national team not some support position. It's too important to use it to make some stupid political or racial statement.

Sorry bra, try again. If your FA's truly cared about helping black coaches, then they should create ways for them to get their proper coaching badges instead of playing politics and embezzling money.
A national team coach who knows little about tactics SHOULD NOT be hired as head coach irrespective of his background or ethnicity. It's hardly any wonder why the continent is a mess.

TheCongo: Have you ever heard of affirmative action huh
Affirmative action for my national team head coach?? Nooooo way.
SportsRe: Kevin-Prince Boateng Revealed What Really Transpired In Ghanian Camp At WC. by davidif:
TheCongo: My man, I am deeply disappointed with your kind. Yes, I would say it a thousand times that I only root for a team that employed a black coach.
You call it a trivial thing, are you kidding me?

How many African coaches have you ever seen in the Europe leagues? How many European countries have ever hired an African Coach? Yet, Africa is a continent with billion of people and a lot of African have played football in the best leagues around the word. But you are all acting as if an African doesn't have the brain to manage a European National team.

Don't you get it that there is discrimination involved where the Africans are kept aside when it come to coaching? Do you truly think that out of the billions of Africans, there is no even a single person who is able to manage the French or the English National team? The sad part is that you are mute when facing this injustice. But, when we start talking about using Africa as a ground to promote the advancement of African coaches, preacher like you come out of woodwork to tell us that we should look beyond skin color or ethnicity.
Why don't you preach the same thing to the French or English who are keeping the black man in the back seat when it come to coaching.

Man, I am truly disappointed with your kind. Please keep ethnicity out of this. I am not a Nigerian.
Have a nice day.
Wow! So the way to counter discrimination is to discriminate against other people yourself?? Na wa o, haven't you heard that two wrongs don't make a right? oh well, i guess You are just confirming my earlier post. You sound like some of the folks I gave in my example who counter discrimination by discriminating against the same people.

Pray do tell me, of those billion Africans you mentioned, how many of them have a UEFA "B" license or an "A" license (let's not even start talking about the Pro license self)? Please, show me this people then we can continue debating.

To re-assert my point, IT DOESN'T MATTER TO ME WHAT SKIN COLOR OR ETHNICITY the coach of my country is, I just want him to be the best person for the job. End of discussion.
RomanceRe: What's The Big Deal In Friend Zoning A Guy? by davidif:
@op,
To me It all bores down to selfishness, pettiness and selfcenterdness (what's in it for me). Some people can't be your friend unless they expect to get something from you like money or a relationship. they have agendas right before they meet you and when there agenda fails they get mad at you for putting them back in their rightful place. What they don't know is that NOT EVERYONE YOU MEET IS FOR DATING.

a true friend would love with a pure heart: without an ulterior Motive. The only thing you have to do is just be very CAREFUL not to take friends like this for granted and use them to achieve your means or you would regret it some day. Appreciate and value them cos they are hard to come by.

iwonbaoko: What is LMAO? is that short hand for poverty of ideas?
What is the population of Finland?? under 6 million= less than Lagos State
What is the GDP per capita $36000 and Nigeria $1800 = 20 times that of Nigeria
Nigeria has a GDP per capita of $1800 = 270000 Naira . This is NOT all government money but the TOTAL ECONOMIC OUTPUT of the nation
Bear in Mind that the Federal Government has only a fraction of that(10%) e.g with its recent budget of 4 trillion = 26 666 Naira per citizen
Finland is 20 times richer than Nigeria.
The FG with a budget of 27000 Naira per citizen will subsidize petrol , give you free education, build roads and pay salaries

Your analogy is like an okada rider's son saying that he wants a Blackberry phone because Dangote's son has one

What I wrote which I hope you read before your unsolicited quote is clear.
Is there any country with a population of 100 million that offers free university education.
Of what relevance is oil to the discussion. FYI oil is less than 30% of our GDP and not all the revenue from oil goes to government
Is money derived from oil different from money derived from selling fish or chicken?
http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.PETR.RT.ZS
In 2010 1.5 million people were admitted to university .What is the annual cost of giving these people genuine education that will add value to them and society. What is the optimal ratio of Lecturer/student or are we just turning out so called "graduates" no better that secondary students. Can government afford to pay 500000 on 1.5 million students annually? Are they the only ones in the country?
It is shameful that we have adults who presumably have been to some kind of tertiary education program who cannot analyze logically.
Excellent post. The only thing you did wrong was to resort to personal attacks.

On another note, I am amazed to see such an analytical post backed by data (which also includes the source of the data) on a website like nairaland of all places.
He be like say you miss road cos this post like yours don't belong on a website like this, they belong on The Economist, the New York Times and the Financial Times.

alutacontinua: @op, i think the first step is to get to the root of her attitude. There are quite a number of reasons why she might be doing that. It could be pretence, desperation, up-bringing/mentality about men, low self-esteem, she might just be like that naturally. My advice: you're the one that has been with her, so, try and get to know why she acts that way. From there, you'll be able to tackle the issue. Forget all those people telling you to just enjoy the relationship, i don't think it's that easy to be in a relationship with somebody who wouldn't shake you sometimes. Where's the fun in the relationship?
Has it ever occurred to you that naturally she could be that way? Why should he change her just to fit his image? I thought true love was about putting the other person first instead of you.

SportsRe: Kevin-Prince Boateng Revealed What Really Transpired In Ghanian Camp At WC. by davidif:
TheCongo: My man, most of the white coaches in Africa are hired just because they are white.
This is due to the Africans inferiority complex.

That is why I only cheer for African teams with African coaches even if the African Coach isn't good.
And how exactly do you know that? Do you have any inside connections with these FA's to know what their thought process was when hiring white coaches?
Look you just can't make conjective statements like that based on your per-conceived biases and prejudices.
I for one don't care what skin color our coach is. I just want it to be the best person for the job.
It's narrow minded ethnocentrism that is killing as a nation. We can't see the big picture and look beyond skin color or ethnicity. So we settle for petty squabbling and infighting.
How can someone say that they would only root for a team simply because of something as trivial as skin color irrespective of whether he is good or not? Na wa o. Has race and ethnicity blinded and distorted our vision that we can't make the right decisions anymore?that mentality of always trying to get even is really destroying us as a nation. How else can you explain the mindset of a person who says they would support Political leader A simply because he is from a certain tribe or support another politician simply because his opponent is from a different tribe that has ruled for much longer. Whatever happened to selecting the best candidate for a position? Naija na wa for una.

One thing the veterans of the gender wars: feminist movement from the late 60's and 70's are beginning to discover is that you can't have it all indeed. You can't eat your cake and have it. Unfortunately, some of them found out too late.

Now, the younger women like chimamanda adichie and co. (That also includes some nairalanders here grin) who are relatively new to feminism and are still in its honeymoon phase and are so excited about it are willing to spread its message and principles with zeal at times. Years from now, when they pass that honeymoon phase, what sets in might be disillusionment and regret but by then it's already too late.

Hopefully, they would heed the words of wisdom from this woman and learn from this. It seems that every decade, there is always some new ideas or movement that springs up and excites a lot of people but after a while people they get tired and move on to the next fad.

Now, I am not against women having equal rights or anything as I hate people being oppressed, I am just against the excesses of militant feminism.

Chillisauce: I agree with you but on the part of nudity. Africa is the king in terms of nudity because of the high temperature environment . Religion and colonialism brought about coverings .for our artist , If you gonna go nudé. Do it the African way, with leaves covering some part of body , African tribal Mark or something. Try to be original. That's what to be an artist means.
Same applies to wearing fake hair when you as an African can actually do a nice braids or have your afro intact
I highly disagree with your point about indigenous people not wearing clothes before colonialism and religion came. I have seen several pictures of various indigenous cultures that wore clothes (I.e the Yoruba's, Hausa and some Fulani's) so the perception that oyinbo's brought clothes to us his false in a number of cases.

All players need to do his try their best and leave everything on the field. I am sure Joseph Yobo tried to do that even though he probably was not good enough (or fortunate enough to avoid the miscue at the end) and yet people are here attacking not only him but his wife? O ga o.

These insults are not necessary. Yes All Nigerians are disappointed in the way and manner they lost but you don't have to insult Yobo's body parts and bring his wife into these Insults too. Thats just childish and Immature. There are better ways to criticize the Teams performance than to take it personally. Despite the Vitriol you just poured on Yobo, i think he played very well and the Own goal was a result of his collision with Enyeama. And if you are to praise Osaze the the highest heavens, why did you forget to add that it was osaze that unnecessary gave the ball away that led to a corner kick? Please stop abusing people personally and bring their families into it because you are angry. How would you feel if you were the one playing for Nigeria and everyone begins to insult your lips, abuse your wife for no just cause and curse your mom because you didn't play well in one match. Criticize constructively and not personally!
Wow! So their are decent Nigerians like you in the world? See wonders at least naija is not hopeless.
Nigerians simply can't admit that their squad was not good enough at times so they resort to insulting their players when they don't meet their ridiculously high standards (some Nigerians were actually saying we would win the World Cup) they ridicule and shame them instead of cheering for them for over-achieving.
EducationRe: Just Finished Marking WAEC. I Cry For Our Future. by davidif: 3:11am On Jul 01, 2014
naijaking1: Nigeria's educational standards started falling since the military came to power, some of them were poor students themselves who only managed to get into the army, and not university, teachers' training college, or polythechnics during their time.
However, as all international researches would show, our educational level fell of the cliff during IBB,and more so when Jubril Aminu (a wonderful physician, but a parochial administrator) became federal commissioner for education.
Somehow, his idea of a viable educational policy was an attempt to balance the north vs south educational disparity overnight.
Not many understood his machinations then, but a few protested the shift of our nation's education resources based purely on politics to normadic children who couldn't even be properly counted in the first place.
Everything you see today is thanks to the evil genius and his co-travelers.
Wow! Thanks for the enlightenment. I knew the naija education sector began to fall when the Obasanjo regime seized all schools (including the prestigious missionary schools) and placed under the military govt but I didn't know the hand that Jibril Aminu played in it also. Thanks for the info.

rkarang: Exactly, that was what I wanted to do. His post doesn't make any difference.

When are we going to stop the idea of condemning students? Why can't we find lasting solutions to the problems of those students?

It's high time we recognized that students have different levels of understanding. The method that works for A may not work for B. Therefore, we should try to understand these students & not browbeating them.

Dear OP,

Please stop the condemnation; let's help these students in our own little way.

They can also learn but they need monitoring; i.e. someone who's going to monitor their progress. They want you to encourage and convince them.

Finally, you can bring out the best in them.

Thanks smiley
