no matter how hard you try, you can not change the fact that Benin was a Yoruba empire.
I bet if any part of the East Igbo Kingdoms have an outstanding and powerful history like Benin kingdom you Yorubas would have claimed it as a Yoruba empire founded by Yoruba. Afterall you claimed Yufi in Zimbabwe and Nupe as Ife.

If Oba means : Shining in Edo lexicon, what does Ora mean in Edo ? Or Ora is not also found in Oviedo's lexicon ?
Ask an Ora man what Ora means in his dialect.. all languages have similar words.. don;t know what your arguement is about..
But as for "Oba" it was first used by the Edos to represent king.

Mr monkey OYO and BENIN never go to war ..No superiority contest .. go to oba Benin palace abuse oni of ife and OYO oba .say derogatory things you normally say online about them .i bet they will behead you instantly ..likewise in yoruba land Oba benin stool is highly revered
Benin and Oyo did actually go to war twice and both times Oyo was defeated.. In one instance it was briefly narrated how Benin defeated Oyo with its large calvary.. I will post the evidence if I come across it again.
As for beheading Edo person in palace over a yoruba issue, please that is not true. maybe your obas will do that to you but thats not the case in Benin.

the early Benin's of the empire used Yoruba language throughout the length and breadth of the empire. They were Yoruba not edos.
No.. Edo was the original language spoken in Ife..

The supposed "Yoruba slaves" were at the helm of administration of Benin Kingdom from the palace.

Speaks so much about the Edo subjects whom these "slaves" ruled over and conquered.

Sounds more like: Yoruba language was employed by Yoruba slaves "in the palace administration of Benin Kingdom" over their Edo subjects. grin cheesy grin cheesy grin cheesy grin cheesy grin cheesy
You Yorubas are actually very shallow minded.. You guys really have slave mentality.. You sound like "house niggers" (those slaves employed to work in home administration rather than cotton fields. They always felt they were better than other slaves). So working in Benin palace which was the greatest palace in the world for your guys was an achievement. Benin Empire's ministers where Edos, army officials were Edos, administrators sent to administer conquered territories where Edos, jugdes Edos, the Oba's council were Edos.. The work of the Yorubas slaves in the palace was, gardeners, cleaners, gatemen, houseboys and house girls.. so far they had these jobs in the great Benin palace was a boost for their weak ego.

Anyways please go read about why Yoruba were employed in the palace.. you will find it was because it is easy to punish them, behead them for any offence because they are foreigners and nobody will ask questions unlike if they were Edos then they cannot be treated unjustly..
so keep celebrating your weakness..

Got it!

* But can you direct me to any reputable and redoubtable evidence or proof which states that the land which came to be known as Benin Kingdom was originally and indigenously Yoruba-speaking?? *

However, the evidence available to me is to the effect that the land which came to be known as Benin Kingdom is originally and indigenously Edo-speaking.

Yes, some few settlements in its Western frontier is originally and indigenously Yoruba-speaking for obvious reasons.

But the said influence of Yoruba language in the capital city and the palace only began later due to the Yoruba affiliation of its foreign governments.
Don’t lie to yourselves. There’s no Yoruba language influence anywhere in Benin or the capital. The only people that spoke Yoruba in the palace where the Yoruba slaves working in the palace.

Really? And Delta people had so many positions in govt and politics? I knew the civil service very well.

Anioma benefited most in positions. Osadebey was premier. No state university in Benin area. But in Ekpoma and education faculty in Abraka (now Delta state university).

The only Benin man that ruled Ogbemudia, you need to check what he did in Warri and other areas in Delta.

If anything, Benin always compromised, not to be seen as domineering.
In my opinion, I would prefer smaller homogeneous nation's even if 3 to 5 million people.

Bendel was the most egalitarian multi-ethnic region.

Aside Benin, did Abudu, Iguobazuwa or any other town.get much attention?

You also forget that around 20% of people in Benin were from Delta. Every classroom had like 30% Delta people. Even till today the Deltans remain in Benin. Benefited from whatever you say Benin took for themselves. Ibori, Uduaghan, Olu of Warri Ikenwoli, all schooled in Uniben that Ogbemudia developed before FG took it over.

The Ebies, Unukegwos and Omo-Ageges were people I knew well. All did very well in Bendel.

I would prefer Delta to be on their own or join Niger Delta Republic. Not to have argument over oil. Ijaw and others can sort out oil arguments in NDR.

Being Edoid is not enough to have unity. If no common purpose, lingering historical issues or potential for fight over oil or anything, better not.⁷
Well said.. No need to talk too much.. Edo will NEVER be part of Yoruba or any other entity.. Delta can join Biafra if they wish to, Edo is strong and good on its own. All we probably need is an access to the sea and we can take a part of Delta for that.. So Edo may end up sharing Delta with Biafra..

Another dvmb comment from the illiterate self-acclaimed nursery school match teacher whom I forced to delete his many nairaland accounts.

(1) "Sir" was added to the address of Oba Adesoji Aderemi by virtue of his doubling as the Governor of Western Nigeria.

(2) For the umpteenth time, the word "Ọba" is not present at all in the Edo lexicon till today.

I still wonder how Edo people gave what they don't have. grin

(3) The closest words to "Ọba" from the Edo lexicon are words which:

(i) Are spelt differently.

(ii) Sound differently.

(iii) Have different meanings with nothing to do with monarchy.

(4) In the Yoruba language, in contrast, the word "Ọba" literally means: "One who reigns-supreme".

It becomes clear that this particular word was loaned from the Yoruba language into Edo. See also attachment below from D.M. Bondarenko'

(5) Just like the word "Pharaoh", words like "Ooni", "Alaafin", etc. do not by themselves mean "King" or "Monarch" even though they are applied to the monarchs of ancient Egypt, Ife, Oyo respectively.

These are unique royal titles for the monarchs of these respective kingdoms. They run alongside the common noun for "King" in the respective languages --- "Ọba" being the Yoruba equivalent.

(6) Your dvmb claim that Yoruba is a recent tribe is similar to saying that "Benin" or "Edo" is a tribe created in the 1500s/1600s because these words were not used prior to then.

(7) The ancestral generic Yoruba word for "King" "Ọba" was loaned into the Edo lexicon beginning with the Oranmiyan/Eweka dynasty.

(8 ) The ancestral generic umbrella terms with which all Yoruba subgroups collectively identify themselves before the word "Yoruba" was adopted were: "Lukumi"and "Nago", and later "Aku".

The word "Yoruba" used to be applied exclusively to the Oyo subgroup.
Lie lie.

LoveToRead:
I did not even have an idea of what the pay would be.

'Brother Alex?' the pastor's voice cut into my thoughts.

I looked at him 'Yes, sir.'

'I think you should take the offer. Go and see her and discuss the terms and details with her. Let me know when you will start the work with her, so that we will get another administrator. It has been wonderful, working with you. I wish you the best of luck.'

The pastor extended his hand for a handshake and I took it humbly.

'Thank you, sir. Thank you very much, sir.'

As I left the office, I could not but wonder how so unpredictable the character of Madam B could be.   'Madam Da Rocha?' I said, totally surprised.

After I left the church, I thought over whether I should go and visit madam B in the house or I should call her. I decided to do the latter. She picked the phone after the fifth ring.

   'Good afternoon, ma'am,' I greeted.

   'How're you, Alex?'

'Fine, ma'am. I just left the pastor's office, now. He told me what you discussed with him.'

'Yes. I didn't tell you directly because I really want you to take an independent decision on it. So, what do you think?'

'It will be a great honour to work with you, ma'am.'

   'That's my boy.'

I could sense that she was smiling at the end of the line.

'So, when do you want to start with the work?'
I had to think fast. 'It depends on when you want me to start, ma'am.'

There was a long pause. 'You know what, try to see me in the house on Monday morning by seven before I leave for office. Can you do that?'

I did not hesitate. 'Sure, I can do that.'

'Yes, do that. We'll discuss. I'll be expecting you.'

   'Okay, madam. Thanks a lot.'

She disconnected the line. I whistled to myself. Honestly, this Madam B was a character.

Yes, I agree.

The frightened people acquired territories in 6 states + Kwara & Kogi in Nigera, Republic of Benin, Togo, Ghana.

The imperial & powerful people are crammed in a 2by2 piece of land under the threat of occupation & invasion by the Ijaw & Ibo.

The Edo are indeed such a brave people! grin
Please stop confusing yourselves. Who did you acquire territories from? Did u acquire it from other tribes? Those places are historically Yoruba due to ur large numbers and spread.. It was the Edos that acquired non Edo territories by conquest.
Anyways you are right about the current situation of things (except the ijaw and ibo part and it’s actually the ibos that are acquiring ur lands and the ijaws constantly warring and killing ur people) but if we are to go to arms now I bet u history will repeat itself..

Just one Yoruba shook your 2by2 village to the core. Now imagine how many Ogedengbe are in Yorubaland waiting to be unleashes on you? Your 2by2 village has always been a conquered extension of Yorubaland. Ever wonder why you were added to Western region? Yep, you have always been our appendage. Every wonder why you have Yoruba names while we don'r use your names? Yep, you're our bxtch. We fxked y'all extensively & passed you on the Ibo & now the Ijaw are currently about to overrun your 2by2 space. cheesy.
And yet the Yorubas are historically known to be a pastoral and frightened people.. and the Edos are known to be an imperial and powerful people.

All Yoruba kings are still kaybiesi, last time I check the deji of akure is still called deji.so tell me what was discarded. So university na source of pride small Benin.

dumbass horse was not introduce to the Yoruba by Hausa rather nupe dumbass. Hausa were Slaves only in the old oyo. The word horse was gotten from Arabic just like wahala alubusa and esin. If anything if esin is Benin word for horse that means u only borrow the Yoruba pronunciation of it. Cuz Benin doesn’t have a horse culture. Egusi and iyan is not a Benin food just cuz western Yoruba like amala doesn’t mean shit. Benin republic Yoruba delicacy is neither amala either but oka. I know it’s hard for u to understand but when u are a huge ethnic group not just couple million there will be difference in cuisine. Itsekiri delicacy is not iyan and egusi why cuz I thought iyan was ur influence. U did not control ondo or ekiti especially ijesha and also ijesha and co do not have a horse culture. I hope u know who ogedengbe is. Yoruba introduce art to u and also coral beed is indigenous to Yoruba so u also didn’t introduce shit. There is more Yoruba influences on Benin than the other way around.
What is your point here? What is horse culture? If we don’t breed horses in large numbers doesn’t mean we don’t know what it is. I don’t think the climate here is conducive for horses.
You lost your other arguments now u have started with horses lol. U can keep the horses Edo don’t have need for it.

Please don’t be dumb all the time. I just gave u an example of a full title and a short title but yet u are still confused. Like I said you won’t understand because u guys never had real sovereign kings.
“Omo N’Oba N’Edo Oba Ewuare II” is his full title and it actually means “King Ewuare the Second, King of all Edo and its vassal states (including Yorubalands) and beyond, protector of Edo.

In ordinary context or different vowels or consonants, omo noba n’edo will be translated as “the one (whose power and glory) illuminates all over Edo and beyond”..

shut up fool. U think am dumb like u. What does omo noba nedo means cuz it doesn’t mean any emperor. Omo child n’oba shining edo village. How does that mean emperor. Ole liar. Is the Benin sense.
Listen a true king have a full unabridged title. In the case of Oba of Benin it is “Omo N’Oba N’Edo”.. for example the Queen of England full title is “Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith”..
u wouldn’t understand because u guys don’t have the real concept of sovereign kings.
