humilitypays:Igbos started it all first by colluding with the Balewa Government to oppress other southerners by ways of: 1. joining the Northern MPs in the First Republic federal legislature to pass into law the bill sponsored by Balewa by which he retroactively upturned the Supreme Court verdict on the Awolowo vs Akintola rift. 2. giving moral support to the Balewa Government to jail Enahoro, Awolowo and lots of other non-Igbo Southerners for fictitious charges. 3. And finally plotting and executing a coup by which a lot of innocent politicians and high-ranking army officers of all other regions were brutally murdered but sparing their Igbo counterparts. These were how injustice and disregard for the rule of law began in a post-independence Nigeria. |
Captain8:Now, if Igbos are the core South East people as you obviously want to insinuate, then who are the core Nigerians? |
EdoFirstBorn:Indomie generation child devoid of facts hence looking at everything through ethnocentric and partisan lenses. Go and pick up a book on Nigeria's political history. |
Captain8:Would you mind listing out the many ethnic groups of the South East? |
EdoFirstBorn:You were obviously not even born by that time. Go back and ask questions from those around you who were alive back then and ask them to mention the riots staged in the North and South East concerning June 12 if there were any. To be specific, Tofa won in Old Rivers (Now Rivers and Bayelsa) State. He also swept Imo, Abia, Enugu which bellied Ebonyi State back then. So how could Igbos have staged pro-June 12 riots when the annulment favoured their preferred choice of candidate? In fact the position of Igbos back then was that the annulment was pay back to Yorubas for betraying them during the Biafra War hence June 12 actualization struggle was none of their business. For Northerners: the likes of David Mark said it publicly that he would personally shoot MKO dead if he meets him face to face. Then the likes of Major Omenka of Benue State was used by Abacha as a part of the Nigerian Gestapo to kill June 12 struggle leaders within Nigeria. The only places outside Yoruba land where riots were staged are Edo and Delta States. Go and read and ask questions. |
EdoFirstBorn:You seem to be living in another Nigeria. There were no pro-June 12 riots anywhere in Igholand or in the North. All such riots happened only in Yoruba land. On the contrary we had Igbos like Arthur Nzeribe, Chukwumerijie Daniel Kanu fighting against the actualization of June 12 in the service of Abacha and Northerners who anulled the election and vowed that MKO would never be sworn in as president. |
Psalmistproject:Unfortunately, Isaac Adaka Boro's experience in the hands of Ojukwu and Ironsi in respect of secession casts a huge question mark on the feasibility of the South South being able to actually seceed from the SE after partnering with them to jointly pull out of Nigeria. Likewise, Nnamdi Kanu's inclusion of them in Biafra maps without any consultantion let alone their consent also proves that such hope of peacefully separating from Biafra post-joint Nigeria exit is at best delusional. |
Psalmistproject:The South-South is not a single ethnic group, so the question of who is a core South-Southerner doesn't even arise. It is like saying that there are core Nigerians as if Nigeria is the name of an ethnic group or tribe. |
Chidex50:the present South East was once officially known as "East Central State" and that was during Gowon's administration, and you the natives so identified yourselves. Was there any cardinal direction or point known as East Central back then or even now? |
Broveens42:Your rationalization above is similar to arguing that the holding of ministerial portfolios by the likes of Ngige and other Igbos in this government proves wrong the allegations that Igbos are being marginalized. Secondly, Edwin Clarke was at logger heads with Obasanjo and always took him to the cleaners even though he was one of the elites during Obasanjo administration, so your theory that his present take on issues is influenced by being part of some cabal somewhere doesn't hold water at all. |
Broveens42:History was scrapped by Obasanjo who in defense of that policy argued that retention of it in the curriculum would always refresh old wounds and create more 'disunity'. However we know that his real intent for scrapping it was to help Igbos in covering up the roles which one-Nigerianists like himself e.g Azikiwe, Ojukwu and Ironsi played in bringing Nigeria to this sorry state. He obviously did that as compensation to the Igbo race for the bloc votes they gave him in 1999 and 2003 elections and that explains why Igbos continue to love, defend and idolize him no matter how wrong his position on issues might be. |
yahmohy27:You just took it out of my mouth. Don't mind that monicker with his prejudiced pattern of reasoning. |
Indispensable85:Per the first bolded: Recall that Edo State people generally have short memory o. If after Lucky's huge failure in his first term which he got on the campaign gimmick of helping market women with his salary as Oredo LGA chairman, Edo people could again fall for the next campaign gimmick that "a child who fails a class should repeat it" and on that note gave him a second term, what then gives you the conviction that they will not fall again for another cheap talk Obaseki may cook up to whitewash himself over the current rancor he is presently causing within Edo PDP which saved him from the political oblivion the APC wanted to drive him into? For the second bolded. ITV, like every other torgbarian, is beginning to get disillusioned. You know they all thought they were spiting Oshiomhole without knowing that the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. |
Coldie:. You obviously don't know anything about the traditional institutions laws of Edo State. Let's even take it hypothetically that Edo State government has the power to dethrone the Oba of Benin, who in the whole of Edo State do you think will accept being appointed to replace an Oba who is still alive, and who among the Oba's own direct lineage will accept to step into the office? Not even the Edaiken of Uselu (the crown prince) will accept such offer. Google Anthony Onyearegbulem and find out why no traditional ruler in the whole Edo State accepted to replace the Oba of Benin on Onyearegbulem's purported sack of Erediauwa as head of Edo State Traditional Council. Una go just come online dey put mouth for wetin una no really know shishi about. |
nextstep:Nigerian sovereignty was imposed on Benin Kingdom. Remember? Is there any record of the Oba of Benin granting consent to the creation of Nigeria? |
CSTRR:Those artefacts were never meant for generation of revenue from the public by those who made them in the first instance. They were carved for use in traditional rites in certain cultural practices which the people still do till today and that is why Obaseki, as a Bini man aware of the culture, initially, and as far back as June 2019, agreed with the Oba without any argument that the artefacts would go straight to Benin Royal Museum. So why is he now changing tune? |
honeybobo69:Please where exactly are you hoping to find such Nigerians? |
crossfm:Those things he said before the camera were all truths which even those he accused couldn't deny. Specifically, he mentioned Philip Shuaibu's sponsoring of violence across the state and Philip couldn't deny it. The Oba of Benin Stool is one that has no use for political correctness, so any Oba on the Benin throne at any era would say things exactly as they are and that is not partisan politics politics but being frank and candid. That also explains why he frankly reminded Oshiomhole of his rather unilateral hence undemocratic decision to annoint Obaseki despite knowing that Obaseki's family has a history of ingratitude and betrayal which Oshiomhole himself was tasting bitterly at the moment. During Abacha's evil government the incumbent's father publicly condemned his colleagues like Ooni of Ife and the rest who were trooping Aso Rock to pledge allegiance to Abacha. To quote him verbatim: "All those traditional rulers giving Abacha moral support are encouraging bloodshed in Nigeria". His speech about Obaseki's family betrayal history is a fact and was provoked among lots of other issues by Obaseki's stoppage of the Enogies regular meetings with the state government. So you can see that his breaking of tradition to pay Obaseki an official visit just a month into his tenure was a good gesture by which he held out an olive branch to the entire Obaseki family and which Obaseki should have reciprocated in the interest of burying the hatchet about the past ugly history. Now, can you, in all honesty, defend Obaseki's cancelation of the Enogies meetings as a demonstration of good faith and acceptance of the Oba's olive branch? A traitor is always a traitor. It is a genetic trait. Even within the PDP Obaseki defected to he has since reneged on all the agreements he reached with them as conditions to getting their ticket hence the brouhaha, physical assaults, demolition of the opposite PDP faction's members' landed properties in the State, opening a parallel state PDP secretariat, etc. for their 'crime'of insisting that he honours those agreement. When last did you hear Edo State PDP make a public statement in defense of Obaseki? They have in no time seen him for who he really is. Even the Torgbarians have all disappeared from both online and real life. None of them chants Ogbane or Torgba again in Edo State due to the embarrassing disappointments that have been kissing and slapping them in their faces. |
Indispensable85:Don't mind the likes of Idahosa. They are too ashamed to publicly admit that Obaseki scammed all of them. Even when Obaseki eventually sets up a cabinet, which is likely to be a next year thing, they will be shocked to discover that the old PDP members will not get a single slot and if they dare complain he will again play the victim card of accusing them of pressuring him to share state's resources to them, and the Edo State people will fall for it again. |
Quelme:Even when there was enough money in Edo State coffers the Ogbane governor took 4 months to set up a cabinet in his first term, and on finally setting it up he found it difficult to pay his own political appointees decent wages. Is it now that he has milked the state coffers dry in payment for PDP ticket and overnight membersship that he will appoint commissioners so soon despite knowing fully well that as it is right now there are really no funds to sustain a cabinet in terms of remuneration? Some of his recent strange and obnoxious policies like N50,000 tenement rate per house in Edo State, emergence of EMOWAA project after having initially agreed with the Oba as far back as June 2019 that the about-to-be-returned artefacts would be housed in Benin Royal Museum, refusal to pay AAU lecturers outstanding arrears, closure of nearly all tertiary institutions in the state, refusal to conduct LGA elections, etc are all indications of a desperation to generate revenues through unconventional methods in order to fill up the dent in the state's purse created by the profligacy which he perpetrated in the build up to the last election in the state. |
aribisala0:In their dictionary, betrayal is when you are independent minded and therefore refuse to sheepishly buy into their whims and caprices or when you refuse to unquestioningly agree to whatever they request of you irrespective of how irrational such request might be. |
Captain8:Now we can understand how illogical they are each time they as well accuse Enahoro, Isaac Adaka Boro, Awolowo, Ken Saro Wiwa and Erediauwa of betraying them during the 1967 Biafra War even though none of these figures ever signed any agreement with them to seek joint secession from Nigeria. Ironically you would never hear them accuse their brother and one-Nigerianist in Chief, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, of betraying them during the war despite he actually initially was on the side of Biafra but later crossed over to the Nigerian side when it began to appear that the Federal forces were finally closing in on Biafran soldiers. In a similar ironical gesture you would never hear them accuse another blood brother of theirs, Arthur Nzeribe, of war time betrayal even though Arthur Nzeribe accepted from the Gowon Government the contract of procuring arms from European countries for the Nigerian side and executed the contract perfectly all through the while that the war lasted. In terms of reasoning I have never in my life seen a group as illogical as Kanu and his Ipobic followers. |
frankson1:To Bayelsa State and not to Calabar. And that was part of the causes of Jonathan vs Amaechi face-off |
Chuksmonika:Even if you pay on time, L-Credit will keep debiting the loan amount from your account repeatedly until they empty your account. |
DubaiLandLord:Don't mind him. He obviously has no use for historical facts else he would have known that most of the people now called SS naturally gravitate more towards the Fulanis-owned party in any party system era. We need to remind him how Alhaji Bashir Tofa a Fulani candidate of the Fulani-controlled NRC had a landslide in Old Rivers State (now split into Bayelsa and Rivers) in the June 12 1993 election that saw North-centric NRC beat the Southerners-favoured SDP with 63% to 30%. Indomie generation children everywhere. |
oyeb15:And I guess the Yaradua family which 100% owned the PDM that metamorphosed into PDP in 1998 is a family indegenous to the South-South, right? The truth is that no SS person can openly boast of being a part of those who founded PDP or APC. South-South people have always preferred to wait till the North forms a party for them to join it and begin to chant "One-Nigeria". While we know Yorubas to have at different times founded home based parties like AD, UPN, AG, which they use as negotiation vehicles; and the Igbos too have the record of having founded home based parties like NPP, APGA, YPP, PPP for same negotiation platform purpose; the South-South people are painfully directionless politically and have never formed any party of their own. Had APC come into existence in 1998 and become the Behemoth PDP became, the SS people would have as well accepted it as their own and develop an emotional attachment to it. |
Asiseeit:That must be L-Credit. A very fraudulent online loan company. Whoever loves himself should avoid L-Credit completely no matter how pressed for a loan one might be. |
Judolisco:Unfortunately, this is a faceless forum else I would have loved to take you to where they call Government Printers in Benin City for you to have a copy of Edo State Laws of Chiefs so you see it yourself that Oba of Benin stool is not under the state government. |
Petie33:There is even no law for Obaseki to invoke to dethrone the Oba of Benin. Edo State laws of chiefs are totally different from those of Osun, Kano, Rivers, etc where traditional rulers are appointed by the governor and can also be removed by them. |
Judolisco:For the umpteenth time, I tell you again that laws on traditional institutions are made by the states legislature and in Edo State there is no such law empowering the governor to dethrone the Oba of Benin. The Igbinedion family started having issues with Oba Erediawa far before Lucky Igbinedion ever nursed the ambition to govern Edo State. In 1992 when Lucky first ever contested for governor, the Oba opposed him and he actually lost to Odigie Oyegun. However, Lucky would later become governor in 1999 on sympathy votes founded on sentiments of Edo people. As governor for eight years, the battle between the Igbinedion family and Oba Erediawa continued but Lucky could not detrone him because as governor of the state, Lucky simply had no such power granted him by any provision of Edo State laws on traditional institutions. |
lexy2014:. Why hasn't he laid claim to those artifacts for d purpose of keeping them in d palace as "the rightful custodian"? Above is the part of your response that made me throw it back to you that why hasn't the state or federal government ordered, with their 'powers and laws' that the ones returned directly to the palace in 2014 be sent to the museum which is owned by the FG and which you argue should be the rightful custodian. Your analogy with the painters in the streets of Paris has no correlation to the issue here because there is no history of French monarchy specially known for court art painting. |
lexy2014:Pay a visit to Benin City today and you will see commercial sculptors carving replicas of Benin Court arts and selling them. In fact there is a district in Benin City dedicated to that business alone. From Benin, take a trip to National Museum in Onikan, Lagos State and there you will see a specially dedicated Benin Gallery where Benin historical court artwork replications carved by commercial sculptors are sold to visitors. So I don't know what you are still insinuating. As per my use of 'order' check you comment to which I replied. |
