Judolisco:Which system of government are you talking of please? You think the federal government made the laws on traditional institutions? Go and study Edo State laws on traditional institutions in the state and be better informed. |
obynzo:Exactly which laws please? You seem not to know that laws on traditional institutions vary from state to state on account of the fact that traditional matters are not meddled into by the FG. Go and read Edo State laws on traditional institutions within the state and you will be better informed as to whether any Edo State Government can dethrone the Oba. Even Onyearegbulem as a military junta governor didn't imagine such. He only attempted to remove the Oba as head of Edo State traditional council....an action which even violated the Edo State laws on traditional institutions that recognized (not appointed) the Oba as the permanent head of the state's traditional council. I leave you to find out how successful Onyearegbulem was in doing that and why he later apologized to Edo State people for that. |
lexy2014:. What you have in the museum are replicas of the palace samples carved by commercial sculptors of more recent times and not the original ones. Now, why hasn't the state or federal government ordered that those ones returned to the palace in 2014 be moved to the museum you talk about? |
lexy2014:In 2014 the son of one of the British soldiers who participated in the 1897 expedition returned some of those artefacts straight to the palace without involving the state government. What does that tell you about who the rightful custodian is? |
TheMan3:Nairaland if overpopulated with indomie generation youths who look at everything through the lenses of partisan politics. |
angelfallz:Obaseki already agreed with the Oba that the artefacts would be housed in the Royal Museum hence the Oba set aside some land for the building of it only for Obaseki to later change tune to Edo Museum of West African Arts and Culture. |
obynzo:Was the deposition based on the consent of the subjects of the king who ethroned him as their representative head? |
brightalo1010:Don't mind them. They don't know anything about Benin monarchy. |
AroleOduduwa2:Can you give examples of anything that any government at any level in Nigeria has been able to preserve. Government can't even preserve their own records and you want such historical items in the custody of same government? You want them to be in a government-owned museum where a staff will one day set the building on fire in order to cover his tracks after selling them to the public and pocketing the money? Comedians everywhere. |
jericco1:Google Anthony Onyearegbulem. Then find out why no one agreed to replace Erediawa after Onyearegbulem's purported removal of him as head of Edo State traditional council. |
Kingrefreshed:Keep dreaming. You think Benin Monarchy is like those you have under Wike in Rivers State, right? The day Wike entered the Oba palace for the first time in his life he became a chicken in appearance unlike how he acts like a lion before Rivers State monarchs all appointed by him. |
crossfm:How can you reconcile the bolded with the fact that he broke traditional convention and paid an official courtesy visit to Obaseki in Osadebe House just a moth into Obaseki's first term? And if you may know, Obaseki paid him back by stopping the Enogies-governor meeting which predated his administration. |
limeta:The original objective behind the creation of those artworks by the palace had nothing to do with revenue generation from the public back in those days. They were meant to be used for traditional rites and other cultural activities directly connected to the palace hence they were acknowledged as Benin Court Artefacts even by the looting British Government. When Oba Akenzua pioneered the movement for the return of those artefacts, he made himself clear that the destination should be the palace in order that they would continue being used for their original purposes in the palace. In Benin City as of today, those who want to generate revenue from Benin Court art don't go to the palace to ask for samples, rather they carve their own afresh in replication of the palace versions and sell to the public. Likewise, in the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos State, there is a separate Benin Gallery where artworks carved in identical replication of the palace for the public to freely view and sales at very high prices for the sake of revenue generation by the federal government. Why can't Edo State Government do same but insisting on those very original ones meant for the palace? |
Maxymilliano:So why hasn't Obaseki or even Buhari/Jonathan ordered that the artefacts returned directly to Oba Erediawa in 2014 by the very son of one of the invading British soldiers be taken away from the palace to the federal government owned museum located less than 300m away from the palace in Benin? |
AtikuNetwork:You are obviously from the South East where there really isn't any traditional institution. If Obaseki could be that daring as you wish, then why didn't he disobey Oba's summon of himself, Philip Shuaibu, Oshiomhole and Iyamu in the build up to last year guber election in the state? Go and watch the video of Oba's intervention and see how Obaseki and every other actor all behaved themselves before the Oba. Anyway I leave you with a reminder of the experience of your brother Onyearegbulem when he as Edo State milad, attempted your wish with Oba Erediawa. |
Mikecold:Just allow him to continue talking about what he knows zilch about. He thinks Oba of Benin stool is like that of Ooni of Ife who kept on hobnobbing with Abacha for material favour despite the misrule and bloodshed that characterized that regime. |
Mikecold:Don't mind that monicker. He probably never heard about the Onyearegbulem saga. |
obynzo:How did you finish me the last time? You mean that thread in which you couldn't rely on logic and facts to prove any of your lies and revisionist tales but concealed your emptiness on emotional outbursts and abusive language. I only let that thread slide because I d Iiscovered you had totally derailed it with insults. But I can assure you that if you try it here you will not get away with it. obynzo:This is another way of leaving the ball and going for the leg. First of all you don't know me in person to warrant you knowing that I am being used by a politician. It takes an Ipobian like you to keep wanting to shy away from the fact that the foundation of all that we suffer today was laid by the shortsighted greed of your kinsmen in the persons of Ojukwu, Ironsi and Azikiwe. How can any honest person try to disconnect the shortchanging of host communities in this PIB from Ironsi's destruction of resource control? What is resource control other than host communities getting lion share of the revenues derived from their domains? If Ironsi had not ever tampered with the 1963 constitution, would anyone be talking about PIB by now let alone the shortchanging the host communities? I know you will never answer this question with honesty because it exposes your people's culpability in all that is wrong with Nigeria today. obynzo:All you wrote above will never make sense until you explain how a nationalistic coup aimed at getting rid of an allegedly corruption ridden government ended up taking the lives of politicians from every tribe represented in that government and not a single one from the Igbo tribe which even produced the highest number of ministerial portfolios and elected officials in that allegedly stinkingly corrupt government? Or were those Igbo portfolio holders in that government all saints? Now, Imagine a situation in the present circumstance whereby a set of Yoruba army officers accuse the Buhari government of monumental corruption and oppression of the South by the Fulanis and their Southern collaborators, then they stage a coup in which they kill Buhari, Ngige, Amaechi, Governor Buni, AGF Malami, Irabor the CDS, while they spare Osinbajo so he could replace Buhari according to constitutional provisions, and Tinubu will be far away in France for medical tourism on the day of execution. Is there any explanation on earth that you will accept from any Yoruba person that the coup wasn't aimed at clearing the coast for a Tinubu presidency against 2003 but to genuinely set Nigeria on the right track? For me personally, I will never accept any story denying that there is a Yoruba agenda at the bottom of such a coup because it will be just too glaring. So how do you expect me to accept as nationalistic a coup hatched by a full blooded Igbo man (Ifeajuna) together with three other Igbos/Igboid and one Yoruba which saw the assassination of the political leaders of Hausafulanis, Yorubas, Midwesterners, and non from Igbo? Even Nzeogwu, in his interview with Ejindu, confessed that the Southern aspect of the execution had a tribal agenda. So are you now insinuating that you understand the coup better than Nzeogwu himself who participated directly in it? obynzo:Lies! Adaka Boro's rise to SUG president in UNN was opposed by the Igbo students. It was the votes of the non-Igbo students that saw him through. Moreover the issue of his SUG presidency had nothing to do with the marginalization of the Eastern minorities which he accused the Igbo-controlled Eastern Region government of. If you Igbos were not marginalizing the Eastern minorities, how come you denied them of their much desired COR Region referendum which the Independence Constitution clearly made provision for and which the people of Midwest invoked to get their own separate region as Western minorities? obynzo:Story! What was the evidence if I may ask? Or you mean that it was Balewa who instigated you Igbos to deny them COR referendum that warrantied them to start seeking secession? It seems you don't even know that Isaac Boro's secession movement started in 1965 i.e. while Balewa was still in power. Could Balewa have also been the one instigating Boro to start making moves for breakaway right under his own government? In addition, Southern Cameroonians also voted to leave Nigeria as early as 1961 due to the oppressive Igbo government of the region. I guess Balewa instigated them too. You are indeed a comedian. obynzo:Can't you see you have just contradicted yourself above? How could he be wanting an Ijaw-only Niger Delta and at the same time be accused of trying to co-opt other tribes into it? His Niger Delta map boundaries circumscribed only Ijaws. He was not like Kanu who was busy insulting Niger Deltans as saboteurs and at the same time including them in Biafra maps. obynzo:Common sense dictated that he was killed by retreating Biafran soldiers who were feeling bad about his justified role in the crushing of Biafra. Twist it and wind it with any strange narrative you can, nobody kills his own benefactor except Igbos. Ifeajuna killing of Maimalari says it all. obynzo:So by your sense of judgement, it is opportunistic for someone to do anything possible in rejecting to be part of a proposed country into which he and his people were being forcefully included without any due consultation. So Saro Wiwa's fight against the inclusion of his own Ogoniland in Biafra was an opportunistic activity? Your arguments sometimes amaze me. If we are to follow your line of reasoning, then Nnamdi Kanu is as well an opportunist for fighting against the alleged forceful retention of Igbos in Nigeria by Fulanis. Can't you see that you are just funny through and through? obynzo:Another funny line again. Without prejudice to the fact that the Supreme Court has posthumously exonerated Saro Wiwa of the bolded above, if we are to even assume but not concede that it really so happened, then why have you Igbo been mocking Saro Wiwa's murder in a manner that suggests that he got killed by the Northerners as a form of Karma for 'betraying' you Igbos in the war rather than for being punished for ordering those alleged murders of his own Ogoni brothers? See your illogicality again? obynzo:How could he have reached out to Igbos for help when he was about being killed by a military junta which was enjoying the support of key and prominent Igbo figures like Uche Chukwumerijie and Arthur Nzeribe? Do you even read what you write at all? How did he reach out to Igbos when he was in the tight custody of the federal military government's detention throughout his trial. Was he ever granted bail to enable him walk out of detention to consult with Igbos about any help? You seem not to know what it means to be on trial for treason under a military government. obynzo:What you pretend not to understand is that If Ironsi had not kick started the whole process of tampering with the independence Constitution in the first instance, there wouldn't have been any decree for Gowon to start repealing and then stopping halfway because of Ojukwu's intransigence. Imagine that a thief removed the roof of your house to gain access to rob you at night, and then at daybreak you invited a carpenter to repair it, but before he could finish the repairs a heavy rain fell and the wind that accompanied the rain blew away your C of O to an unknown destination, destroyed your bed and other belonging while the water from the rain caused a heavy flood inside your house and the house collapsed completely on account of that. Who between the carpenter and the thief would you blame for the total loss of your house and certificate of occupancy? Note that in this analogy, Ironsi is the thief who broke into your house while Gowon is the carpenter that came for repairs, and Ojukwu's Aburi Accord push (an illegality in itself) was the rain and wind that did the final total destruction. |
The whistle blower, Architect Paul Lawani, blew his whistle about two issues. To that effect he made two videos simultaneously. The first one was about the quality of the ongoing constituency Lawani Road renovation project facilitated by Akoko-Edo Federa House Representative while the second video was about the appallingly and horribly delapidated state of Orere Primary School which is owned by Edo State government and just 200 meters away from the spot where he stood to make the first video. Then he uploaded both videos on social. While Lawani Street has been unmotorable for the past 5 years, Orere Primary School has in the past 8 years has been reduced from five blocks of six classrooms each to only one block of only three habitable classrooms according to the second video. Now, for the fact that the Akoko-Edo Federal House Representative who facilitated the Lawani Street project is a close political ally of Oshiomhole, Obaseki sent his deputy to visit the Lawani Street project for a purported inspection and assessment and the announcement of a state government take over in order to score cheap political points and divert attention away from the raging question of his 8 month old inability to form a cabinet. Onlookers at the scene were expecting Philip Shuaibu to afterwards proceed to Orere Primary School for inspection as well followed by an on-the-spot announcement of government commencement of renovation by the state government. But Philip Shuaibu left for Benin straight from Lawani Street. Seeing that his good Intention behind making those videos have been hijacked for political capital by the Edo State government, Paul Lawani has since returned to Orere Primary and remade the second video in which he carpeted Obaseki and Philip Shuaibu for harvesting political capital from his video. In a related development, tongues are now wagging about the numerous failed portions of Igarra Technical Road which is adjacent Lawani Street and constructed by Obaseki in 2019. Find below the link to the second video by Paul Lawani and as well his third one drawing attention to Phillip Shuaibu's decision to avoid inspecting Orere Primary School while on his purported inspection visit to Igarra in ostensible response to his videos. maishai:Funny. The more you look, the less you see. |
emmanuelewumi:I no mind to enter the bush o. After all na from inside that bush you dey make all these big big profit. |
RomanGreen:Which Northern Oligarchs? The same Northern Oligarchs with whom your uncle Azikiwe was, in the name of NPC-NCNC master-slave coalition, dinning and winning and colluding with to jail fellow Southerners? The same Northern Oligarchs with whom Azikiwe and you Igbos preferred to form alliance at independence despite they had just freshly killed you people in thousands in 1945 in Jos and again in 1953 in Kano? You rejected the all-South alliance proposal despite no fellow Southern tribe had shed your blood but went into political marriage with your killers and you kept on preaching one-Nigeria right as they were killing you for fun. And that same you now turn around to claim that Isaac Adaka Boro was instigated by the North against your kinsman's government? So you are now indirectly indicting your tribe of never initially wanting Nigeria's break up even though Nigeria back then was already as shitty and hopeless as it currently is? By your claim that the North was behind Isaac Boro, you have implicitly vindicated them as that implies that the North wanted Nigeria's break up back then while you Igbos were against it because your brother was in power and you hoped to be the oppressors through that. Can you see now that trying to rewrite history brings about self indictment? It is you who need a refresher history course. And by the way, Ironsi took power illegally and began to subvert the Independence Constitution which was a genuine we-the-people constitution hence all other tribes were against him and not only the North. Same way the entire Nigeria was against Obasanjo's attempt to criminally infuse third term into the constitution. Mind you that Isaac Boro's grouse with you Igbos was about your denying the Eastern minorities of their much desired COR Region. Now was it the Northern Oligarchy that asked you to deprecate all their attempts to get their own region carved out from the Eastern Region? You people don't ever admit any of your wrongdoings against other tribes. You must find a way to explain it away no matter how watery the defense is. RomanGreen:Saro Wiwa never signed any agreement to help you in fighting a war you brought upon yourself by declaring secession shortly after you yourselves had just promulgated the Anti-secession Decree in the hope that you will lord it over every other tribe forever. So your cry of betrayal is baseless. Rather, he died fighting for what he believed in. And mind you that the injustice against which he fought and got matyred had its foundation laid by Ironsi and Ojukwu his so called brothers. Pray tell me if Saro Wiwa would have ever had the need to fight the Federal military government of Abacha had Ironsi never introduced military rule and had never tampered with the Independence Constitution by means of his evil, demonic and self-serving Unification Decree. Had Ironsi and Ojukwu allowed Isaac Adaka Boro and Saro Wiwa have their Niger Delta Republic, would they have been part of Nigeria as at 1967 to warrant betraying you as you assume? Your mockery of Saro Wiwa's death is at best shallow and comical because your Ironsi was caught like a chicken and killed by the very Northern Oligarchy he tried to please by arresting and sentencing Boro to death. Ironically the same Oligarchy went ahead to release Isaac Boro after disgracing and wasting your Ironsi in a roadside swamp in Ibadan where he was tied to a tree and fired like a common criminal. Then as for Ojukwu, the Caliphate he worked for to frustrate Saro Wiwa later came after him and killed over 3 million innocent kinsmen of his right before his eyes. So who between Saro Wiwa and Ojukwu ended up the bigger loser to the Caliphate? I leave you to answer it yourself. |
eagleonearth:Could you kindly explain how this PIB is fundamentally different from the smokescreen Amnesty offer by Yaradua? |
RomanGreen:Edwin Clarke's one Nigeria or Zik's, Ojukwu and Ironsi's one-Nigeria? When Saro Wiwa and Isaac Adaka Boro saw all these ahead and decided to pull their regions out of one-Nigeria, who stopped them and forcefully brought them back with federal military might? You people just love to keep rewriting history to play the victim card. Continue. This PIB is one of the numerous long term consequences of Ironsi's Unification Decree. |
macrodata:You must have been hoping to get to power through a military coup else all you stated above can't be done democratically. Even if you attempt it as a military ruler, it won't take long for you to start being accused of trying to build your own political empire using your loyalists among the political and military class to replace those you are sacking and probing. Before you know it, another coup will remove you. In fact it is the same masses whose interest you think you are fighting for that will vilify you and call for a coup to remove you. In summary your perception about good governance is far from practical reality. |
afrikanns:Could you kindly list the tangible developments brought by Jonathan and Obasanjo? |
ultiabaz36:Contrary to your insinuation, only Azikiwe lacked foresight due to his quest for the vainglorious 'Zik of Africa' title. Even Zik in his own book "My Odyssey" admitted that at the conclusion of the 1959 election which produced a stalemate as none of the three major parties (NPC, NCNC and AG) got the majority to solely form the post-independence government, Awolowo proposed to him an NCNC-AG alliance that would have seen himself (Zik) emerge as prime minister with Awolowo not even as Governor General but as Finance Minister, but that he (Zik) turned down the offer on the argument that an alliance cutting across North and South was going to be better for national unity (i.e. his one-Nigeria dream). It was based on that that Azikiwe took his NCNC into alliance with the North's NPC to produce the Hausafulani-Igbo alliance in which Balewa emerged as Prime Minister and Zik got compensated with the position of Governor General whose only constitutionally assigned duties were to acknowledge cheers from school children marching on independence anniversaries and to commission public toilets and incinerators. That ideologically bankrupt alliance of strange bedfellows would immediately place Nigeria on a wobbly start and further lead to poor quality of governance which attracted, though unjustifiably, a military intervention that manifested the long suspected Igbo domination agenda that sparked off a succession of coups which led to the Nigeria tragedy we all complain of today. So restrict your blame to Azikiwe. Awolowo and Enahoro did their best to have Nigeria built on a foundation of equity, justice and citizenship dignity but Zik chose to sabotage all their efforts. |
kluv2:Don't mind him. They talk as if Jonathan wouldn't have still ended up handing over to a Northerner and Fulani whom the PDP would have presented to him at the end of his tenure in 2019 had he got a second term. |
ZZ22:I wonder why you are not even sympathizing with your Supleme Reader now in a cage in the zoo but idiotically chose to be tooling yourself on NL. More oil to your moronic brain. |
UnabashedIPOB:Another Idiotic Lamidi Cownu slave on the prowl and soon to join him in the zoo cage. |
mrvitalis:And who said Jonathan lacked a mind of his own so much that he couldn't relieve those alleged Fulanis of their positions and replace them with SS and SE persons like he did in majority of his other appointments without anyone raising eyebrows? Then who were the Fulanis in the government of Seriake Dickson that made him set aside the 1,200 hecters of scarce Bayelsa land for grazing reserve? I will only take you seriously if you begin your we-don't-want-again crusade by first condemning Jonathan and Seriake Dickson and commending Annkio Briggs. Anything short of that translates to mean that should PDP return to power with a Fulani (probably Atiku) as president and they choose to continue with the RUGA policy you will gladly welcome it. |
mrvitalis:Contrary to your insinuation, the RUGA idea originated from Jonathan. You seem to have forgotten that it was Jonathan that first ever ordered the then CBN governor, SLS, to release N100bn to all the 36 state governors to fund their acquisition of lands within their states and allocate same to Fulani Herdsmen as grazing reserves. You also have forgotten that Seriake Dickson the governor of Jonathan's home state of Bayelsa was the first to actually allocate some land (1,200 hecters) for the purpose and sent thugs to attack and beat up Annkio Briggs and her supporters for staging a demonstration against the policy in the streets of Yenegoa. |
