Me too. You should not use people and dump them like waste. Courtesy demands that Keshi calls up the gentle man to let him know he wont be needed for the Kenya clash. Keshi can even call him aside to request that he resigns from the national team honorably and with decorations. Keshi should just learn from this to improve his skills as a Manager. Jose Mourhino is master in this game of managing teams because he is ever at ease with his players, in good and in bad times.

We are never short of analysis in our country but we all run short when it comes to performance. Since Independence, we have known what to do, but sadly we have not done them. Sometimes, I ask myself, is it a curse? When you expect that it will get better then in worsens. Africa is perhaps truly rising but Nigeria remains a big shame. God save us.

Katsumoto: When the western nations decided to shift operations abroad, they had a checklist and India ticked most of the boxes

1. Stable democracy
2. English speaking
3. High population of graduates (rivaled by China but Chinese don't speak English that well)

If Nigeria wasn't so tainted by fraud, corruption, and political strife, it may have rivaled India as a destination. Indian software exports are primarily due to Microsoft, Oracle, and other western software corporations.
I believe that Nigeria is growing in terms of the number of graduates but the competence and the knowledge of many of our graduates have become suspect! The Indian graduate is very well schooled, but our own teachers pass students who have bought handouts.

Even if we are not corrupt, I suspect we will still be underdeveloped

We primarily lack effective management skills
With the lack of management skills comes corruption and other ills

If we have effective management skills, we will know what we can afford to eat (corrupt) and what we cant afford to eat.

If you know the science behind a plane, and that if a certain bolt is removed , that the plane is 70%likely to crash. You wont eat the money for the bolt

But if you think the plane flying and remaining the air is a miracle wrought between God and oyinbo, chopping the money for the bolt wont be a problem to u
There are different types of corruption and I think Sanusi Lamido's analysis of it is accurate. Nigeria's type of corruption is anti-development and that is the core of our problem. Dont get me wrong, every corruption is bad and i will never support any form of corruption. The problem here in Nigeria is that our so called leadeers employ all their ten fingers on corruption and that leaves them with nothing else to do. Look at the parliament, there are hardly any innovative or progressive laws. All their time is on fighting budgets and institutions that do not toe their line. QAnd if you dare challenge them like Oteh did, they would fight you to a halt, not minding even if the entire government apparatus collapses. If you use all your brains and all your fingers on corruption like some of our people do, you will not have any mind on true development.

ballabriggs: Economic revolution with primary and less competitive products and a low HDI and GDP figure of six continents. These guys must be having a laugh after this show.

There has been a PR campaign by "Invest Africa" which has been actively trying to sell Africa to the World. You can see lots of articles coming up on reuters and the economist on Africa's so-called rise. Sunderland F.C alone has earned almost 10 million pounds from the deal in shirt sponsorship.

But investors are more intelligent than such campaigns. When the money finishes, "Invest Africa" will run then we go back to square one again.

There are frameworks of growth and development. From the Classicals, Neo Keynessians, Rober Solow's convergence and to the Harrod Domar model.

Growth and Development is not "bolekaja".
Neither is it wuruwuru! The West is bent on making quick profits from less discerning economies to plow back more dividends to their own people, and they must have found out that several African countries, particularly Nigeria, just like being flattered and they would not mind to use that to fool us.

We still sell raw cocoa, cashew, cotton to these countries and import expensive finished products, missing out all the income and profits from the value chain. We still import a large part of the fuel we use here, and we seem satisfied with offering oil blocks here and there for crude to be exported. The average middle class person is seeking to send his children abroad for education. There are indications that forex is regularly shipped out by corrupt politicians in massive quantities, possibly dwarfing all the claims of FDI gains that government is brandying around. Who are we fooling here?
Politics › Re: The African Economic Revolution by Dee60: 12:23am On Apr 02, 2013
Africa has a potential to record double digit growth rates and I dare say that the continent has the likelihood to rise according to predictions. The problem is that Nigeria is often fraudulently thinking that Africa cannot rise without it.

If Nigeria as a country continues with its deceit and self-destructive patterns, we may just wake up one day that to find that the true giants have climbed on our backs to attain continental leadership. We are hardly able to solve problems and most sectors are comatose (power, health, education, banking, manufacturing, transport, maritime etc)and recent socio-political crises (Boko Haram, regional clamours, kidnappings, moral bankruptcy among old and young people etc) seem to have worsened our chances of any short term economic turn-around.

Our leaders are quick to brandy FDI figures but we also know the pressure we have on our currency due to large outflow on dividends, equity swaps, and payments for our insatiable demand for foreign goods. Who are we fooling?

Africa will rise, but we must pray that the so called 'giant' is not left behind.

It has shot through the roof! In fact, it looks like corruption is now a native of Nigeria. We breathe it, loathe in it, and have no shame about it anymore. In the past two years, we have started to hear about multi-billions and trillions being stolen. It is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.

Let us not waste further time. Streamline and weaken the centre and strengthen the regions (max 6 in number).

trillville: I just provided a table showing oil prices, it's as clear as day light that gej has had oil at about 100 dollars whereas obj had oil at about 50 to 70 dollars. Prices before 2005 where even lower.
Thank you. And in addition, OBJ cleared Nigeria's debt burden 100%. When he came to power, our foreign debt was virtually higher than our GDP (meaning that our economy had collapsed)but that was turned around. When he left, there was 67 billion dollars in savings. All those who are saying that OBJ did not achieve are just fooling themselves. The truth is that those who took over from him have scuttled all those gains. We are back in DEBTS.

Yes, OBJ tried a third term which I do not support but really, he achieved something. GEJ should try and do same. The signal so far is negative, very negative.

Politics › Re: GEJ Should Be Impeached - LA Times Joel Brinkley by Dee60: 7:33pm On Mar 25, 2013
pro01: Someone should kindly tell me how GEJ's (2 year) administration is worse than OBJ's eight years in power. I have since concluded that shallow people (which describes many of the most vocal critics of the present administration) hate GEJ not necessarily for his actions or inactions, but because of his person and persona.

(Un)fortunately, GEJ is not as rambunctious, belligerent, swashbuckling, untamed, and uncouth as Obasanjo, which makes him seem less exciting and therefore 'worse'. It's all a matter of perception; groundless perception based on appearances rather than substance.

How, in cold facts and figures, is corruption - all forms of corruption - worse under GEJ than it was under Obasanjo? Nigeria earned the highest revenues in her history during Obasanjo's eight wasted years in power. How did that tell on our lives? Were the roads better under OBJ than they are now? Was the power supply better than it is now? Were our hospitals better equipped? Was there greater infrastructural development under OBJ than now? Was there less wastage of public funds under OBJ than now? Was the Rule of Law better observed under OBJ than it is under GEJ? Was general insecurity any less under OBJ than it is today (minus the emergent Boko Haram phenomenon, which sensible people realise is a political ploy to return power to the north)? Was the public service more efficient under OBJ than it is now? Most importantly, did Nigerians have more food on their tables under OBJ than they have today under GEJ (despite the fact that the country earned more courtesy of record crude oil prices during OBJ's eight years)? What then, is the basis for maligning GEJ as the worst thing to happen to Nigeria? Could it be merely because of his unpretentious appearance and underwhelming personality? Or could it be because of his unfashionable trademark hat? Because of his perceived lack of 'swagger'? Is that enough to justify so much baseless hate?

Do you so easily forget that the highest number of politically motivated assassinations occurred under Obasanjo, and ALL of them (including the murder of a serving Minister of Justice/Attorney-General) remain unresolved?

Again, how can anyone forget that political corruption, which is arguably worse than financial corruption, was elevated to official state practice under Obasanjo? In Nigeria's political history, has there been any election worse than the 2003 and 2007 general elections conducted by Obasanjo? Compare that with GEJ's demonstrable resolve not to tamper with electoral processes - which has seen the freest and fairest elections in Nigeria's history take place under him (e.g. Edo, Ondo, Anambra, Imo, etc). Gradually, the phenomenon of election-rigging is becoming extinct, primarily because GEJ refuses to endorse such, even to his own party's detriment. Can you say the same for OBJ?

Have we forgotten how Obasanjo sought to ALTER the constitution to prolong his stay in power through a dubious third term provision? Is that brazen act of political corruption not infinitely worse than pardoning a penitent convicted man?

I can go on and on, but the imperative of brevity constrains me. The fact is that we cannot judge GEJ in isolation. He had predecessors, and if we cannot prove how his administration is worse than those of his predecessors (especially OBJ), then we have serious issues indeed.
Mr 'Sophisticated Ignorance' may in fact be very active in NL, posting stuff and having his cronies hit 'Like'. What has OBJ got to do with this? Rather than the administration do its job, it keeps on being haunted by OBJ's ghosts! OBJ did his, please do yours!

israel007: Let me ask: did this corrupt practice start with GEJ? All the progressive promising change, as far as memories go, corruption has been eating Nigeria, has there ever been a day they come out to ask for a change and then be noble enough to. 'Make an attempt at stepping down so they are not part of the corruption? Nooo. They stayed in the system, enjoyed, spent their time, replaced. That seat with their candidates and once they fall our they come out with a front of saying we need to change somethings for the better. Betterment of who?

Exaggerated lies with truth to make everything look real!

Only one third has access to toilet?
I dont get you. What has yesterday got to do with today? Corruption is destroying our nation and someone will sit and justify it! Amazing. There are 23 million Nigerians without jobs (time bomb as OBJ has said) and we sit in one corner making excuses for our leadership? Do you know how many trillions have been wasted in the past 2 years in the name of paying subsidy? Are you aware that is unprecedented in the history of this country? The 20 something year old son of PDP chiefs (old and new)became multi-billionaires in ONE year, in the name of claiming oil subsidies. An we can sit down and justify all that? With the financial state of this country, is there any thing left for coming generations except DEBTS?
Politics › Re: GEJ Should Be Impeached - LA Times Joel Brinkley by Dee60: 6:58pm On Mar 25, 2013
GEJ looks every cent a decent man but has shown a high degree of incompetence for the job. He should sack his current advisers who have led him astray, and get sound professionals to assist him till 2015, and I also advise him not to contest again in 2015. he has some good people though, but they seem quite few, NOI, Akinwunmi.... I cant think of any other one! Okupe and Abati are his worse set.

Honestly, I do not know why GEJ has not been sacking corrupt and incompetent advisers. That is a major weakness. If care is not taken, those advisers may get him into trouble!
