What the Nigerian government could not do, Air Peace is doing. Nigeria is the most badly governed space in the world. You have leaders with mashed potatoes between their ears.

It saddens me that a potentially brilliant nation is being dragged into the mud by charlatans masquerading as leaders.
Potatoes are too pleasant to be between their ears, more likely a combo between faeces as the brains and the rotten puke of a baboon as the blood.

Let me even add to this. The Muslims who killed Deborah in the North over alleged blasphemy (and showed their faces on video) have not even been called to account. I often make comment on whatever I read and I always been careful many atimes going out of the scope of people's comments. Your quoted comment was laced with error because Tinubu wasn't jailed anywhere in this country but only detained. This is why is very important one acquaint himself with fact, so that when you see contrary issue will know and conclude that it is more of praise singer than fact.
I also deduced from your comments that you're trying to be careful because you know the truth but the link you extract from wasn't the true picture of what happened.
No doubt Tinubu is part and parcel of NADECO and also a heavily financial member but wasn't jailed because he belonged to the group. Those jailed know themselves and many of them still alive to tell the story and one of them is Pa. Segun Osoba who wrote a book on the formation of NADECO, in which he reeled out all the founding members and those jailed on the course of struggle. Thankfully, no tribe that wasn't involved.
I accept. Thanks again for your fair points. Indeed it is true that there was a misrepresentation in the quote I presented from Britannica.

This is another peculiar and sad mindset religious people have.

Even a mature human being cannot be bothered about mockery, not to speak of the God of all Creation.

If anything, it is the persons who think that mockery means anything to such an exalted and transcendental being who are actually demeaning and mocking IT.

"Tinubu became active in a pro-democracy group, the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). He was initially jailed for his pro-democracy activities before fleeing in exile in 1994; he returned to Nigeria after Abacha’s death in 1998"
I don't comment out of blues.
If you take a look at that post, you will see it was a quote from Britannica and was thus cast in red with the link attached - look again -

https://www.nairaland.com/8053306/tinubus-anti-people-reverse-robin-hoodist/3#129299401

I was referring my co-discussant to the element there where they cited him as a member of NADECO.

I never personally said he was jailed because I know he wasnt. Perhaps they meant a detention as you mentioned or perhaps they simply got that entirely wrong.

My initial statement was clear - I said he was part of the struggle and supported NADECO.

Edit: Looking it up, there was an arrest, so that's what Britannica was probably referring to -

Recalling that former Senators Ebute, Okorafor, Nwulu, Nwite, Ibrahim and Tinubu were arrested on 2 June 1994 and charged with treasonable felony and conspiring with others to overthrow the Government because they had met on 30 May 1994 and urged General Sani Abacha to step down as Head of State; that on 22 July 1994, they were released on bail and that in December 1995 their cases were closed with the exception of that of Senator Tinubu, who was subsequently also charged with sabotaging oil installations and went into exile for fear of his life; that the other MPs, who were warned against criticising the Government, are under strict surveillance and refrain from speaking out for fear of their lives,

Yes, no doubt Tinubu later joined in the struggle and when the the theater of war was hot, he ran away to exile while his colleagues were arrested and some jailed because I saw in your comment I quoted you said Tinubu was jailed. Please in which prison? He was only arrested by the police and put at the counter and was later released before he flew to exile. No doubt, Information heard it that he was one of the financial member that he was sending money from exile.

Mr. Man, you guys should stop spreading unfounded lie. Tinubu wasn't part of the founding members of NADECO. The least you can say is, he is a financial member. He ran away and from exile he was financing the group.
Here below is what Osoba has to say concerning NADECO. Remember he was part of those that started it and again Tinubu's right hand man. So he cannot be telling lie because he has a first hand info.
Happy reading:

“However, I was lucky that one of the commissioners of police at Kam Salem House, then Prince Rilwanu Babatunde Akiolu – who later became the Oba of Lagos as Oba Rilwanu Babatunde Akiolu 1 – gave me the key to his office and asked me to sleep there every night.

“I was grateful for this but was apprehensive that I could put Akiolu in trouble if found to be aiding and abetting an ‘enemy’ of the regime. He asked me not to worry. I also used his office phone to contact my colleagues in the struggle.

Later, Commodore Dan Suleiman and I were charged to court for forming an ‘illegal organisation called National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).’ Interesting enough, the man who led our defence in court was Chief Abraham Adesanya, himself a leading member of that ‘illegal organization.’ Others like Chief Enahoro and Dr Beko Ransome-Kuti of the Campaign for Democracy were also arrested. Former Governors Bola Ige and Balarabe Musa were also detained with us briefly.”

There was no where Tinubu's name was mentioned as one of the founding members.
Here below is the link for details.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://tribuneonlineng.com/june-12-how-nadeco-was-formed-osoba/&ved=2ahUKEwinzPv-pK6FAxWDUUEAHUNdAS8QFnoECB4QAQ&usg=AOvVaw1UDWT_Q0dUq3HZbg0H76HM
Many thanks for this. But please note the following:

1. This does not say he was not a founding member
2. I never said he was a founding member.
3. What I said is that he was part of the struggle and contributed to it.

Political ascent, exile, and return
Tinubu was elected to the Lagos West senate seat in 1992 as part of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). In the wake of the country’s annulled presidential election in 1993 and Gen. Sani Abacha’s subsequent seizure of power later that year, Tinubu became active in a pro-democracy group, the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). He was initially jailed for his pro-democracy activities before fleeing in exile in 1994; he returned to Nigeria after Abacha’s death in 1998.

https://www.britannica.com/biography/Bola-Tinubu

Born on March 29 1952 his political career took off in 1992, when he was elected to the Nigerian Senate representing the Lagos West constituency. That was during the short-lived Nigeria’s Third Republic. After the results of the 12 June 1993 presidential elections were annulled, Tinubu became a founding member of the pro-democracy National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). The well-coordinated group effectively mobilized a groundswell of public support for the restoration of democracy and the validation of the 12 June election results.

stepaside1:
Farooq employs emotional arguments in this piece, more pandering to the crowd than addressong key issues.

Firstly, only 15% of power customers are impacted by the tariff hike. This is the segment of our population that can afford it. The remainder 85% to which majority of the masses belong are not impacted. In fact, it is a proper Robinhood scenario where we 'rob' the rich to pay the poor.

Secondly, since the privatisation of the power sector in 2014, no meanigful progress has been made in the sector - in fact there has been decline across board in generation, transmission and distribution. This is despite trillions in subsidies paid to generate darkness. Will it be reasonable to keep doing the same thing yet expecting a different result? That will be the proper definition of madness. I would have expected an intellectual like Farooq to paint both sides of the picture if not for anything, for some debate.

Thirdly, this goes to incentivise the sector by reducing subsidies by more than half in the first instance. There is still subsidy in place for the vast majority of the masses. Those in Band A are mostly rich residents and manufacturing concerns. If they enjoy at least 20hrs of electricity daily, it will bring down their power costs significantly as the alternative power currently used by this same people costs more than twice the new tariff.

What I expect is for citizens to hold the feet of these discos to the fire by demanding the level of service for each banding group and in so doing getting more productivity out of the largely incompetent discos.

The courage to take the sort of decisions that this govt has been taking is unprecedented and though coming with short term pains, has significant long term benefits.
There is a place for pacing and timing in policy making. Even if you wish to implement policies like this, why is it always done in such a radical extremist manner? For example, dont take my word for it, research it - everywhere in the world where petrol subsidies have been removed, it has always been done gradually over a long period of time in order to mitigate the effects on the population as well as limit the ripple effects in terms of runaway inflation. Only in Nigeria was it done in one single day, a complete removal that spiked the price of petrol by 200%. This is an increase that has NEVER happened in any other country in history - and there is a reason for that. They are not mad, and they know that government is for the protection and welfare of the people, not to break the backs of the people. ONLY in Nigeria was such an insane increase effected in a single day.

As if that was not enough, just a few weeks later they proceeded to float the naira. In an import dependent economy where you pay dollars for almost every commodity on the shopping shelves that is suicidal. You can only support policies that devalue your currency if you are an industrial producing and exporting economy. That is the only instance in which such a policy will favour your economy. If you are an importing economy it will kill you.

The inflation triggered by the rash implementation of these two policies in such a sudden manner without thought, consultation and consideration has been back breaking. I dont know if you live in Nigeria or shop in Nigeria but if you do, you should understand that this kind of inflation is not a positive thing. It has wrecked the quality of life, it has radically impoverished Nigerians and it has shut down much industry.

Now while in the midst of this painful situation, this extreme hardship imposed by these policies, you then think that its the right time to jack up electricity tariffs by over 200%. It is useless that you say it only affects some consumers - those are the key consumers in terms of industry and that will necessarily increase the cost of production and that will be passed on to the prices of commodities again, thus having a further knock on effect on the already terribly bad inflation situation.

That is why I said, in policy making, there is a place for timing and pacing. Its not the right time. The government is going about these things as though it has an intention to destroy the lives of Nigerians, irretrievably impoverish them, and kill them. Heaven knows the amount of people who have died silently because of these policies are in the tens of thousands.
