MaxInDHouse: Romans 16:17; 2 This reads - I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.1. How do you read the words "keep away from them?" 2. Does it suggest to you excommunication from fellowship? 3. Do you believe that such should form grounds for the division and break-up of families? For example, if that person is a spouse, do you "keep away from them?" Do you shun them? If that person is a parent, do you shun them? 4. Do you recognize the potential for cult-like fanaticism in this? Do you recognize that shunning others was a standard practice of many of the most dangerous cults in history? 5. Do you recognize the potential for religious intolerance in this? In the sense that if you are to "keep away" from people who think differently from you in terms of religion, then you probably should not associate with people of other faiths. 6. How would you feel if people of other faiths "shunned" you for being a JW? 7. How can you show Christian love to a shunned person? John 1:10-11 This reads - He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. What does this have to do with shunning? |

chatinent: We as Jehovah’s Witnesses adhere to the form of Christianity that Jesus taught and that his apostles practiced. This article summarizes our basic beliefs. . 1. God. We worship the one true and Almighty God, the Creator 'who has a name', and whose name is Jehovah. (Psalm 83:18; Revelation 4: 11) He is the God of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus.—Exodus 3:6; 32:11; John 20:17. . 2. Bible. We recognize the Bible as God’s inspired message to humans. (John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16) We base our beliefs on all 66 of its books, which include both the “Old Testament” and the “New Testament.” Professor Jason D. BeDuhn aptly described it when he wrote that Jehovah’s Witnesses built “their system of belief and practice from the raw material of the Bible without predetermining what was to be found there.” * While we accept the entire Bible, we are not fundamentalists. We recognize that parts of the Bible are written in figurative or symbolic language and are not to be understood literally. —Revelation 1:1. . 3. Jesus. We follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ and honor him as our Savior and as the Son of God. (Matthew 20:28; Acts 5:31) Thus, we are Christians. (Acts 11:26) However, we have learned from the Bible that Jesus is not Almighty God and that there is no Scriptural basis for the Trinity doctrine.—John 14:28. . 4. The Kingdom of God. This is a real government in heaven, not a condition in the hearts of Christians. It will replace human governments and accomplish God’s purpose for the earth. (Daniel 2:44; Matthew 6:9, 10) It will take these actions soon, for Bible prophecy indicates that we are living in “ the last days.”—2 Timothy 3:1-5; Matthew 24:3-14. Jesus is the King of God’s Kingdom in heaven. He began ruling in 1914.—Revelation 11:15. . 5. Salvation. Deliverance from sin and death is possible through the ransom sacrifice of Jesus. (Matthew 20:28; Acts 4:12) To benefit from that sacrifice, people must not only exercise faith in Jesus but also change their course of life and get baptized. (Matthew 28:19, 20; John 3:16; Acts 3:19, 20) A person’s works prove that his faith is alive. (James 2:24, 26) However, salvation cannot be earned—it comes through “the undeserved kindness of God.”—Galatians 2:16, 21. . 6. Heaven. Jehovah God, Jesus Christ, and the faithful angels reside in the spirit realm. * (Psalm 103:19-21; Acts 7:55) A relatively small number of people—144,000—will be resurrected to life in heaven to rule with Jesus in the Kingdom.—Daniel 7:27; 2 Timothy 2:12; Revelation 5:9, 10; 14:1, 3. . 7. Earth. God created the earth to be mankind’s eternal home. (Psalm 104:5; 115:16; Ecclesiastes 1:4) God will bless obedient people with perfect health and everlasting life in an earthly paradise. Of course, it was his original purpose while creating man.—Psalm 37:11, 34. . 8. Evil and suffering. These began when one of God’s angels rebelled. (John 8:44) This angel, who after his rebellion was called “Satan” and “Devil,” persuaded the first human couple to join him, and the consequences have been disastrous for their descendants. ( Genesis 3:1-6; Romans 5:12) In order to settle the moral issues raised by Satan, God has 'allowed' evil and suffering, but He will not permit them to continue forever. . 9. Death. People who die pass out of existence. (Psalm 146:4; Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10) They do not suffer in a fiery hell of torment. God will bring billions back from death by means of a resurrection. (Acts 24:15) However, those who refuse to learn God’s ways after being raised to life will be destroyed forever with no hope of a resurrection.— Revelation 20:14, 15. . 10. Family. We adhere to God’s original standard of marriage as the union of one man and one woman, with sexual immorality being the only valid basis for divorce. (Matthew 19:4-9) We are convinced that the wisdom found in the Bible helps families to succeed.—Ephesians 5:22–6:1. . 11. Our worship. We do not venerate the cross or any other images. (Deuteronomy 4:15-19; 1 John 5:21) Key aspects of our worship include the following: Praying to God.—Philippians 4:6. Reading and studying the Bible.—Psalm 1:1-3. Meditating on what we learn from the Bible.—Psalm 77:12. Meeting together to pray, study the Bible, sing, express our faith, and encourage fellow Witnesses and others.— Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 10:23-25. Preaching the “good news of the Kingdom.”—Matthew 24:14. Helping those in need.—James 2:14-17. Constructing and maintaining Kingdom Halls and other facilities used to further our worldwide Bible educational work.— Psalm 127:1. Sharing in disaster relief.—Acts 11:27-30. . 12. Our organization. We are organized into congregations, each of which is overseen by a body of elders. However, the elders do not form a clergy class, and they are unsalaried. (Matthew 10:8; 23: We do not practice tithing, and no collections are ever taken at our meetings. (2 Corinthians 9:7) All our activities are supported by anonymous donations. The Governing Body, a small group of mature Christians who serve at our world headquarters, provides direction for Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide.— Matthew 24:45. . Talk to us about the practice of shunning. |

Nigerians in particular have a glorious and indomitable global diaspora which excels in every field of human endeavor and this is partly due to the fact that nothing within their psyche prods them to consider themselves inferior to any other human anywhere on the planet. Can African government or in this case Nigerian government do such or haven't you seen a lot of those smart individuals on NL front-page with one little invention or the other but you and I know that's where it ends so you see where government comes to play in all this now? American car maker Ford got his big boost when the government stepped in but we know that can't happen in Nigeria. Even before Innoson there has been so many guys that has tried car making in this country but when the government refused to assist they all died off, a man started car making in the 80s but till he died nothing much came out of it and even after death nothing cos it was abandoned just the way he left it. I don't know how Innoson does his magic to get to this present stage and the man is really trying honestly but believe me if the government had assisted him one way or the other maybe we won't be using foreign cars much again. So you see my brother even if you invent anything and you don't have the necessary backup it all amounts to total waste at the end. Governments are made up of people. |

That clearly can not be said about a lot of the popular human sacrifices, which world all over have been condemned.
That clearly tells everyone the difference.
You are just seeking to unreasonably cast evil aspersions into God's Right full Way! What avoidance. You merely made a (slavish) declaration without giving a single reason as to why it is true. Anything that is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. Nonetheless we have given evidence through logic, at all events, for our our simple assertion: to wit: the doctrine of the propitiatory sacrifice of Christ for human sins is equivalent to ritual human sacrifice which Christians paradoxically frown upon. |

So get corrected, we do rituals everyday and we are still pagany, but of a Law Full Variety. It hurts my brain to even think about it. Guess I'm gonna need the help of the holy spirit to figure it out as usual.
Plus, the idea that someone died for humanity and that someone didn't stay dead but rose just after 3 days is somehow. I mean, if I met a dude who claimed to have died for me 3 days ago, I'd probably think he belonged to a mental home. If you sacrificed something, you don't get it back, that why it is called a sacrifice.
Again, maybe I'm using my carnal understanding too much and probably need the holy spirit to make me understand the kind of sacrifice that entails the "sacrificee" getting back what was said to be sacrificed just few days after the supposed sacrifice. Thank you very much. You are being clear and rational which is rare. Hismasterpiece: But Jesus was raised from the dead. Can this be said about any ritual sacrifice? A number of things to note here - 1. At all events there was still a crucifixion and a death: this in itself entails something lost or given up - even if allegedly temporary - and thus is still sacrificial in the sense argued by Christianity. 2. Christianity holds that the Christ was without sin - and that death is the wages of sin - therefore that Christ suffered death without deserving death, and thus that this was again sacrificial. 3. While crucifixion was the known standard method of Roman execution of non-Roman criminals, and while death is common to all humanity, resurrection is an unproven myth so far - and the mere fact that you believe it forms no grounds to present it as evidence of anything to those of us you regard it - rightfully - as a fantasy. Finally - we must ask the simple question - what is ritual human sacrifice? Let us define the words one by one. Ritual, Human and Sacrifice. So that it is clear. Essential Meaning of ritual 1 : done as part of a ceremony or ritual (e.g) a ritual dance/ perform a ritual purification 2 : always done in a particular situation and in the same way each time ritual acts a ritual greeting/gesture
Full Definition of ritual
(Entry 1 of 2) 1 : of or relating to rites or a ritual : ceremonial a ritual dance 2 : according to religious law ritual purity 3 : done in accordance with social custom or normal protocol ritual handshakes ritual background checks
(Entry 2 of 2) 1 : the established form for a ceremony specifically : the order of words prescribed for a religious ceremony 2a : ritual observance specifically : a system of rites b : a ceremonial act or action c : an act or series of acts regularly repeated in a set precise mannerhttps://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ritualPlease note the bolded, and you should understand that the applicable usage here is that of a rite of purification, which is what Christian teaching asserts the death on the cross to have been. Mind you, it is said to have been prophesied, and several specifications were attributed to it. It was thus a specific rite by which Christian teaching asserts that man was reunited with God, and forgiveness of sins obtained. It was also preceded by the Jewish rite of sacrifice of animals for the remission or removal of sins. This is why we say conclusively that it was ritualistic in nature. Secondly, what is the definition of human? A human being, as we know, is a being such as ourselves. Under Christian teaching, it is said that Jesus was the "Son of Man" and (depending on what sects you listen to) - that he was fully man and fully God - at all events all schools assert - both trinitarian and non-trinitarian - that he was made man, and came as a human being. Thus, Christ is said to have had a human nature - even by those who ridiculously assert that he was also almighty God. Something which must be absurd if one also believes in his sacrificial death, because this infers that God sacrificed himself to himself so that he could allow himself to forgive man, Thirdly, what is the meaning of sacrifice? Essential Meaning of sacrifice 1 : the act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get or do something else or to help someone 2 : an act of killing a person or animal in a religious ceremony as an offering to please a god - (e.g) a place where priests performed human/animal sacrifices in ancient rituals/ a place where people were offered (up) in sacrifice to the gods 3 : a person or animal that is killed in a sacrifice (e.g) - The villagers hoped the gods would accept their sacrifice. The goat was offered as a sacrifice.https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sacrificeThere you go. Nothing more to add to that. Accordingly you can see clearly that the teaching that Christ died for the forgiveness of our sins in a propitiatory way renders the entire event and circumstance nothing but ritual human sacrifice. And say what you will, that is nothing short of pagan and repugnant as I have said before. And as Premiumwriter has rightly argued, if it is the cornerstone of your religion, you cannot condemn the practice elsewhere without being a most evident hypocrite. I personally add that it discloses your religion as one based on primitive and barbaric principles, and discloses your God as bloodthirsty. PS: I generally have no problem with paganism - save those particular practices which tend to the dark, and human sacrifice is one of such. |
