onegig: TALES OF A LOVELY DAUGHTER IN LAW!

Some daughters-in-law are very nice and understanding..
They don’t come to change the
family, they are
here to … ( READ ON !)

The new wife was being welcomed at the husband’s home in a traditional manner.
As expected she gave a
speech; ‘My dear family members, I
thank you for
welcoming me in my new home
and family. Firstly, my being here
does not mean
that I want to change
your way of life, your
routine ..’No, I will never do
that, never in a
million years.’
‘What do you mean my child?’
asked the father-
in-law.
‘What I mean dad is (looking at
her in-laws);
Those who used to wash the
dishes must carry on
washing them.
Those who used to do the laundry
must carry on
doing it.
Those who cooked should not
stop at my
account, AND
Those who used to clean should
continue
cleaning!!!
‘And what are you here for?’
enquired the
mother-in-law.
‘ I’M HERE TO ENTERTAIN YOUR
SON !’

Just for the laughs..

tbaba1234: Mufti ismail Menk is awesome by the way.

We have too much ethnic colouration, most non yorubas are out of place in our masjids in Lagos in particular. The speakers usually have poor control of the english language. I feel like in a place like Lagos, they should speak enough english to communicate.

I am far more connected to foreign speakers because they speak a language, I can relate with.

That said, we are creating a dangerous 'celebrity culture'. Sometimes, we put these guys on the spot, forgetting they are humans as well. Whatever reminder they give is for themselves first and they also have struggles.
the celebrity part with fame, money, etc.

I would be wary of it becoming like the church business where every one would start getting into it for the money.

lucky Don: May I remind u that that Adolf Hitler though born a catholic stopped attending church right from Vienna,Austria when he lost his parents. And he NEVER killied in Jesus name.Google his famous quotes and u will see that he was an atheist,a beast possesed by the devil.

I quite understand that u are a moderate muslim and condemn violence but what I have failed to understand about Islam is why they like violence.Take for example Pakistan and Iraq were we see bombing in daily basis between the shites and sunnis?
The same goes to Somali's alshabab?
Afghanistan's taliban?alqeuda in Yemen? Also Egypt is in turmoil and sectarian violence in Lebanon. When I watch this things,I come to the conclusion that Iraq's everyday blood letting is a deliberate effort to murder people in funerals, market places and roadside.

I am aware that we have like five major religions in the world and they are Christianity,Islam,Hindu,Buhdaism and Skihs but I have not seen any of them except Islam fighting the other.
I am not condemning Islam but why has it always been on the news ?
Another ignorant one trying to form knowledgeable. Adolf Hitler stopped going to church and that makes him less of a cHristian? How many christians go to church anyway?

and you see Shekau as he prays and you are sure he is truly a Good Muslim?

That you even equate Egypt's democratic struggle with terrorism shows a lack of depth in you.Is Lebanin an Islamic state and the only place where Ethnic clashes occur?

People like you are a waste of time and are truly deserving of your ignorance. Wallow in it and stay drunk please...just where the world needs you.

Sissie: Yes we do, in Nigeria most of the scholars have a specific tribe that mostly follow them, and am not sure of any that is know in Nigeria that both north and south listen to equally, or has a strong following from both.

They organize lectures with Nigerians, mostly Abuja based scholars but the crowd they draw is incomparable.

Most of the previous lectures where free but due to bugdet constraints, they introduced the tickets. Same organizers brought in zakir naik, Khalid yasin and it was free.
The way they deliver lectures is really good maybe due to international experience or something.
alright then.

Plus they have a strong online presence that makes them attractive to the youth. I follow Mufti Menk on facebook.
wink

you're welcome

ok, what then were your goals ie what did you intend the thread to achieve?
I already stated them. I wanted a platform for discussion and we have been discussing. I hoped that people would learn about the opposite gender and have an understanding of their thought process.

I hoped that it would help people make the right choices and know how to approach relationship issues..
Some of the things that I wanted discussed earlier on came up much later and I was grateful that it was brought up- something about dressing up and how to approach...

I have seen changes in people actually. I see some things that we discussed being manifested in how people relate and all that(even if they would not admit at first). There are also many others who read without posting comments..I believe it gets helpful many atime.
did you have a particular purpose in mind?
they are already stated above.

oh, i thought you were in nigeria.
only for a few months in a year.
if you're rounding up your program then its never too early to start scouting for a spouse, assuming you're not planning a whirlwind courtship of maybe less than a year.
I am not under any pressure to get married. I am not the typical girl waiting for a charming prince. I know what I want from life. I think a man would come along as I live my life. There is no need to rush.

i asked the question because i was wondering if you actually are currently in a relationship with someone, sometimes you give that impression.
I am not the girl friend type. I only talk with people.

well, compatibility matters, those cant always be ignored.
yeah

fair enough,

do you have an idea which personality type you feel would be suitable for you?
I am Not sure of that. I have seen all kinds. I am more at ease with the crazy, all out for fun, down to earth, totally real(I always know the pretenders), intelligent, respectful and hard working, unintimidatable types with a future glaringly written over their forehead.
IslamRe: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by deols(op): 11:48pm On Sep 28, 2013
let me rephrase

if the wife is too busy or too tired to do the house chores, she should let the husband know she needs assistance.

if he can help, he should, especially if she's taking care of a baby/small kids. And possibly working at the same time.

in nigeria, most people would get a housemaid or relative to help in this area.

but, its not ok to command him to do the housework, i dont know if its done overseas but i never heard the like in nigeria.

and a reason such as "if the wife does not like house chores", is no reason at all. Most people do not like house chores, but they have to be done regardless if someone likes them or not. Unless you want the whole world in your business and looking down their judgemental noses at you?
I was not talking of commanding the husband. I already explained what I meant. It is not even about liking something but about not wanting to do it or not being able to. I see no reason why anyone should be forced to do what they don't want to do for any reason.

I already put it there. It is better that people are honest with each other and marry those they can deal with than ending up
in an unhappy marriage.

Maybe I know some funny people though; the atypical Nigerians who live really good lives despite the atypical Nigerian choices they make/lifestyles they live.
IslamRe: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by deols(op): 11:43pm On Sep 28, 2013
ShehuAba: The comments so far have really been enlightening.

The first issue here is that of Compatibility. It's necessary to marry someone who's compatible with you especially in class. E.G: If you are a low/middle class and you go ahead to marry a high class lady you must be willing to adjust to her lifestyle, maybe she's the type that doesn't wash clothes, plates, cook infact everything is done for her at home, you must find a way to satisfy her in that aspect.
That said, the fact still remains that, this's always the isolated cases especially in Nigeria where a larger percentage are in the middle/low class.

The second issue is that of COMPROMISE. The truth is that you can never know all about your spouse before marriage. We are all humans, we try to adjust ourselves at least to get somethings done for ourselves. Marriage is not an exception.
That's why i asked earlier that is't possible for a lady to tell her fiance that she's a dirty type? Even to tell him that she cannot cook? C'mon lets be realistic with ourselves, it's practically impossible especially in our society where most girls are thought to be home keepers from childhood. May be the lady is trying to tell me that she has no proper home training, or she's not an obedient type.

More comments later
You see, I have read all you wrote. I can tell the kinda person you are. You keep hammering on home training like there is a book or guideline to it.

It is your opinion, keep to it. since it wont affect me, I wont bother dissecting your posts.

The problem with Nigerians is thinking that the world must be seen through their myopic eyes.

A Nigerian wants things to continue to happen because there is never a way out. Status quo must be kept..LOL.
As per cooking, i think this has been discussed elsewhere on the forum.

There are cooking schools, youtube videos, etc to help out with that.

Even white ladies and non nigerians are cooking nigerian foods ( which they have never seen before prior to marriage), with the help of the internet.

And of course, hiring a cook is also an option if both parties are tired and stressed out, and have the money.
All of these are necessary only she can not. If she is interested in learning, the matter should not have gotten here. It is more like she stopped doing it. But how do we know why?

Because the husband is making life unbearable for her and she had to run for her life without waiting first to keep the house clean?

do we know if she got a job that now takes too much of her time? do we know if they she spends the money on the house while husband expects her to do room service still?..

Do we even know if Mr. Husband was just a talkative divulging the lies he thought of so he could get a pity party?

who knows?
