PoliticsRe: Suggest brilliant ideas/program that will improve Nigeria economic situation by diggler(m): 9:33pm On Dec 08, 2008
Nigeria is trapped in a vicious cycle of corruption & poverty.
Corruption in this country has become so systemic and a part of us that sometimes i feel that by merely breathing the air in this country newborn kids imbibe the evil.
If u can deal a big blow to any one of the two ills, then we are on the highway to Paradise.

however i feel we need to face first corruption because if it persists, U can't tackle poverty.
This can be done by employing tact and guile and not necessarily taking the moral high ground/Ribaduesque tactics.

For example: We can encourage those past leaders and Looters that have been looted us to come and Invest those funds in say our infrastructure (Power, Transportation, Agriculture) such investment will lead to unconditional pardons. besides they & their families will become the Rockefeller & Carnegie of this country. Afterall Public-Private partnership is the l8est in a string of buzz phrases and  with other major world economies looking for massive funds to reboot their economies and funds becoming scare, who is best to invest in Nigeria if not Nigerians.
The knock on effect is that Industrialization and wealth creation is kick started which will provide more funds for Government via taxes.
Fashola has shown us Oil aint the only revenue source.
These funds thus generated will be channeled to Health care, Education, Security and other not so profitable services that govt needs to guarantee or provide outright.

Ultimately, as the standard of living improves across the board and our people (bulk of whom are illiterate esp up north) become more enlightened, they will begin to demand more of their leaders and also be better non-compromised positions of demanding Good governance. As opposed to a governor drilling a borehole or planting some friggin flowers and making a helluva noise out of it OR looking for hand-downs from the leaders and engaging in the nauseating Sycophancy that suffocates us.

Also, reduction in poverty will lead to reduction in other ills such as ethnicity which i feel feeds off poverty.

@poster why do nigerians prefer to stay in prison outside nigeria than to stay in nigeria?
Unless u're a 419 kingpin or some other top shot, its best u take ur chances in a prison outside the shores of this country
cos at least ur basic human rights stand a better chance of being respected.

Criminals go to jail in the states & come out with diplomas, vocational(advanced criminal if u want) skills, Muscles & sometimes the unfortunate have sore assholes. But all in all their prison na country club compared to kirikiri.
PoliticsRe: What Are The Criteria? by diggler(m): 1:33pm On Dec 08, 2008
U need to refine ur question to include the context under which u want to be a good politician.

The political terrain varies from country to country and culture to culture.

Generally speaking, my advise to u is as follows;

don't get too attached to any friends u make today, because they might be ur enemies tomorrow.
If u are the stingy type especially whilst on ur way up, then thats a habit u'll need to drop (share the money, when u get there u'll recoup)
learn to skirt around issues without necessarily committing to a position this lesson is from Obama, the Rhetoric master.

Basically read & master the 48 laws of power by Robert Greene and apply any law as the situation calls for it. (remember these laws tend to cancel each other out so redefine them to suit ur personality).

Finally if u're Nigerian, make sure ur Jazz (Juju) is the latest and most potent.
and most importantly dont forget to settle me when u get there or i'll set the proverbial banana peel for U.

good luck as u build ur political career.

Another curious allergy

Why Nigerians dey get angry at anybody wey talk say corruption no goodhuh

The first step to success in anything is recognition of need. Ohakim was only talking in parables.

He is also a great governor
Its either u dont stay in Imo state & follow the propaganda on NTA and Sun News paper.
OR
U have direct link & dey chop with the Guy.

Ikedi Ohakim read & mastered Chimaroke Nnamani's playbook about governing via the media & is exhibitng what he learnt.

Also nobody is getting angry at nobody for saying the obvious.

He is a leader and is definitely corrupt like the rest of us
instead of taking the high ground its best he shut tf up.

Tha_dude:
This has exposed Soludo when international firms were repatrating their funds why didnt he devalue the naira then?,
Soludo is not the problem bro.
Since he came in all the macro-economic decisions he took have been vindicated.
However you and i know that his decisions have to be ratified by the mallams (Yar'adua & the katsina mafia) who unfortunately have no friggin idea what they're doing up there.

wasnt it Soludo that tried to reorganise the Naira like 18 months ago, this was at a time when we could afford it. However Mr Shamsudeen who has never hidden his desire to occupy CBN governorship position scuttled that strictly on northern solidarity with Yar'adua.

the unfortunate part of the outlook for us is this, We (the common man) knows first hand what belt tightening is all about. However, the Pot-belly dudes at the NASS, Presidency, State capitals etc will keep increasing allocations to themselves.

they'll continue embarking on foreign trips with entourages that'll put the biggest cattle herds to shame.
Since the roads aint getting better, they'll demand more bullet-proof(yeah insecurity will be on the rise) SUV's.
Add to all that over-invoicing and other ills will keep rising.

Abacha who ran deficit budgets for years was not saddled with the size of government we have now & also the clique of 'choppers' was way smaller than what obtains.

Nigerians need to once again tap into that inner strength that pulls us through hellish condtions cos the road ahead is looking more efd up than usual.

God bless Nigeria

PoliticsRe: This Is How Nigeria Will Become In The Future by diggler(m): 1:14pm On Dec 07, 2008
Arewa Republic will also contain the 9 states in Nigeria making it 20.

so like nuzo said the finally grouping will be more like;

Odua Republic
Arewa Republic/Nigeria (wonder how the middle belt minorities will take to hausa/fulani domination, possible strife)
Biafra
Niger Delta Republic (which will be embroiled in eternal strife as Ijaw will want their own nation or to dominate)

All in all, the above is a wet dream cos it aint happening.
the ruling class of kleptoligarchs are comfortable with the present arrangement and therefore will do everything possible to make auwals wet dream remain just that a wet dream.

This seems to be an internal memo
There are ways to report news that emanate from such and reproducing it verbatim is not one of them.

Also internal & Confidential sources could be endangered by such action.
If the publication of this compromises the source, Sahara reporters might find it difficult to get inside scoops in future.

Granted, Nigerians need to know the truth but throwing responsible journalism to the winds to achieve that is not d way to go.
If Mr Elendu of sahara reporters gets arrested next time he is in the country, he should know why.

Yar'Adua & whoever is involved in the Orchestration of this crap, is being petty plain & simple.

The Ribadu issue could have been handled differently.

They could have eased him out of the police entirely (with his DIG status) with a couple of rumors about his career leaked to the media (eg. the scandal about how his cronies acquired seized 419 properties etc) .

Anyways on Ribadus part, i thot he was said to be from one untouchable family up north. So why all the persecution?

PoliticsRe: Merrill Lynch Ranks Nigeria World’s Safest Economy by diggler(m): 11:31pm On Nov 18, 2008
PapaBrowne:
It's time to wake up! Nigeria is a hard place- no infrastructure, no security and yet it's soooo profitable. There's something positively strange  about this country. Something not taught in Economics & Business  textbooks.

And for those that don't know, there is a difference between Macro- economics and Micro-economics. The Big banks, Foreign Investors, Portfolio companies, hedge/Mutual funds, and the likes of Merill Lynch, etc, pay attention to Macro economic indicators. That's what affects their bottom line.
Micro-economic indexes which affect the common man like Nairalanders are the responsibility of your Federal, State and Local governments.

So is the Merill Lynch article right? Very, very right. Does it call for rejoicing? Somehow. . .  yes, but not exactly. The ranking just implies that we have the least exposure to credit and in times like these when credit is caustic, we are very safe. Add that to the price of oil and the fact that Soludo & co got a couple of things right in their economic strategies.  And you see that the Merill lynch ranking does make a lot of sense.

Good news is that Macro economic progress usually translates to Micro economic benefits for the common man. However, those benefits have to pass through your Federal, State and Local governments where it will be used in purchasing 250 million Naira plots of Land in Parkview, Over-invoiced G-classes, Over priced Hilton/Sheraton/Eko Hotel accommodations and other miscellaneous expenses like room service Hennessy and a call girl to go!

So please lets not blame our micro economic woes on Merill Lynch! Their macro indicators are soo right!! Nigeria has the safest macro economy in the world. And we should be very optimistic, take advantage and live what we believe!
I mentioned macro/micro economics like twice
and like d'banj, dem come give me title; Eminent Armchair Economist I of nairaland

U don mention am like 7 or so times
and with the authority vested upon me as EAE I i now Cap u Esteemed Eminent Swivel-Chair Economist I (EESE) of Nairaland.

that aside, i thank you for saying it as it is
Our economy is sound on the macro-level and to make it here, u keep the books aside & put ur streetsmarts cap on.
