texazzpete:
First off, i must express my EXTREME dissapointment with all these boneheads talking about Abalaka. Did the Wright brothers receive Government help before they flew their plane? Did Galileo receive government help?

The man says he made his cure from low cost herbs and stuff. There are thousands of Nigerians living with HIV/Aids in Bonny and Benue state, do you think if he had set up shop there with his so called 'cure' he wouldnt have been rolling in dough and been world famous?
He challenged the Government to send proven cases of HIV to him. Does he not know where he could get thousands to experiment on?

The truth is Abalaka never had the cure. It defies logic that someone would hold the holy grail of medicine and be complaining of lack of Government support. Some people just thrive on the attention, like those guys in the US that claimed they had found a corpse of Bigfoot. Shame some people here on Nairaland are easily misled.
Agree with u 110%

Its the typical Nigerian laziness that started when we let Crude Oil define who we are.

Nollywood when it came out was screaming 'government should come & help us grow.
Sure they did, by setting up Video Censors Board to regulate them silly.
In true sense of the word, that is what government does & should do, regulate ur ass.

I was just about to post this. Another great reason not to get everything through China. . . . . angry
To an extent you are right

however, i've dealt with the Chinese and i tell you, these dude are ruthless businessmen pure and simple.
If u want a N10000 space satellite, i tell these guys will make it for you.
On the other hand, if u want NASA grade satellite, same thing just pay the right amount & they'll make it for you.

Why is it that the biggest American/Global Tech companies Intel & the like outsource most of their production (some design even) to china?Mind u these kats dont get sentimental with their money.
the Answer simply is that they are competent enough to handle this.

I own many devices bought directly from china 7 i tell you, they r more expensive but of superior quality than what obtains in our markets.

We need to ask Mr NigComSat how much of the N40billion was actually spent on the satellite.
The only reason the Chinese outbidded 21 other international firms was that they offered the best 'Kickback deal' cos they could always compromise on quality.
If u had given say a British coy the contract it would've cost N80billion cos kickback must dey.

**With this development, at least he should forget the 3G license he wanted govt to hand freely to him.

They've beaten up a 'connected' mans daughter and now everybody wan use am score cheap political point.

he should tell that to other lagosians whose cars have been damaged by these convoys.

I once had an encounter with such a convoy which funny enough was that of a Bank CEO going to work.
This was close to their Office in VI. i for one did not elect the mofo to any post besides i own shares in his bloody bank i bought with my hard earned cheddar.
If not for the fact that the car i was driving belonged to a military officer and i had 'ratings' in the car with me, una for don see me for youtube, facebook, Sahara reporters & NL receiving the 'Okere Special'.

Fashola should go and face the Lagos Infrastructure project and let the running 'Mad Dogs' be.

Its very very easy to different in our Setting

Just make up your mind, to make enemies of everyone you've known since u popped out of the womb.
I couldnt help but laugh the way ur Aunt inadvertently countered herself immediately.

That my friend is the problem we have in this country.
We have failed to understand that culturally, certain acts that are term nepotism in the West are part and parcel of our genetic makeup.

In china & much of Southeast Asia , there is an institutionalized system that they have which caters for all eventualities.
The reason why their economies & societies are advancing is that they've accepted that u can't adopt all facets of western culture.

more examples, Singapore has been run by practically one family, yet its one of SE Asia's/the worlds financial superpowers and a democracy where Uncle Umoru 'confusion+go-slow' Yar'adua can learn a thing or two about the 'Rule of Law'.
try spitting out gum on the side walk there and see what'll happen to ur behind.

So the day we stop lying to ourselves and shun the Institutionalized hypocrisy eating us alive, then shall we proceed.

On to serious matters,

I happen to have first hand knowledge of Comrade Adams Antecedents especially segments of which are not widely known to the general populace, or are dismissed as mudslinging by his supporters.

I do hope for the sake of the residents of Edo that he performs.

However, i know & fear that we are about to witness a government that'll be run on propaganda and other noise making techniques.
Do not forget this dude has 'claimed' to be in the opposition/underdog situation for the past few years as a labor leader. This experience will enable him to better bamboozle the ppl of Edo with well constructed misinformation.

Expect to hear such Peter Obi type excuses like, 'The PDP machinery is making it impossible for me to deliver.
Mind u this dude has been in bed with the PDP in a trail that leads to Aso Rock and Otta.

Expect enough rallies filled with low income types and enough rhetoric.
It is a big Insult to liken this dude to Barack Obama cos apart from the Rhetoric (which Oshiomole's labour activist part makes him an expert) there is no similarity between these two men.

Expect a government like Ikedi Ohakims in Imo state that'll be run on the pages of Newspapers (where fortunately, he has enough sympathizers)

Anyways it might just be the undying cynic in me running amok on the keyboard.

So my parting shot is, , Time will tell

Anyways I've had this view (albeit controversial) that given the proper management framework, the Nigerian police can be semi-commercialized & become self-sufficient in funding.
In this twisted world of mine, Police stations will start proliferating like UBA branches.

I dont condone this kinda behaviour in whatever format.

I have a lot of respect for the military, cos i feel it takes a lot for someone to sign up for 'possible death'.

That being said, our society is warped and no matter the uproar this generates, expect the 'brass' involved in this to leave with just a slap on the wrists.
If anybody is going to suffer it'll be the 'over zealous' ratings.

In military settings somehow some way, the lower cadres normally bear the brunt for their superiors indiscretions.
Even in America the beacon of freedom its so. (remember abu ghraib where the small fry got jail terms, whilst the boys were sipping on crisp.

U'll find speculations on the subject.

My take on the whole things is that Obama is going to break a lot of promises if he wants his administration to surmount the 'wahala' presently on ground.
He also needs to reach out and increase his support base especially in the repulican side.

We shouldnt forget that over 50 million people voted for McCain.

Digression:

On the homefront, our very own Baba Go Slow is doing what he does best i.e. Leading like he aint got a clue.
He's supposed to be preparing next years budget, meanwhile he has a fraction of the usual cabinet.
i'm seeing a scenario where the 2009 budget will be passed in 2011.

PoliticsRe: Ex Covenant University Student Now A Commisioner by diggler(m): 10:38pm On Nov 02, 2008
This thread is just another reason i wouldn't advise any person of mine to attend that glorified secondary School called CU.

8 out of 10 graduates or 'seniors' i've met from that institution display a heightened level of immaturity that i find appalling.

A University education is supposed to prepare Adults for the real world by placing them in an environment that is a microcosm of the society that they (graduates) will live in. The Academic component is just that a component. Why is it that Ivy league schools like Harvard, Yale, Cornell, etc promote extra-curricular activities for their students? To the point that 'secret societies' like Skulls and bones, Sphinx Head, etc constitute a vital, officially recognized part of Campus life. These societies mind u have produced Presidents of the US, the Incumbent & his challenger in 2004 notable alumni.
I'm Sure Bishop Oyedepo would pull a coronary if such ideas were brought to his table.

Instead @ CU we have a this tightly regulated environment, where the students r told what to wear, prohibited from owning mobile phones and a host of other absurdities.

Universities with religious affiliation in other climes are hardly like this.
However like i said earlier, some products of this institution do exhibit some level of maturity which i'd attribute to their  non-school/home environment.
