Foreign AffairsRe: An Iraqi Throws A Shoe At President Bush by diggler(m): 7:00pm On Dec 15, 2008

Reagan forgot to duck. Bush didn't. It's unforgettable television that, upon reflection, appears to sum up the man and his presidency.

Watch the video. From behind we see the Shoe Thrower lurch up, ragged and uncouth, doing his best to reinforce all negative stereotypes of angry Muslim fundamentalists. He yells, "This is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog!" and unleashes the shoe, hard, straight at Bush's head. The shoe moves fast, with good rotation, perfect for a bloody nose. And, without batting an eye, Bush ducks a foot and a half. What was about to nail him on the schnoz sails harmlessly into the backdrop.

Then, wait. This is the strange part. There's no mass tackling of the Shoe Thrower, no Secret Service agents diving across the stage to take a Nike for America. For a beat the Shoe Thrower owns the room. And--my favorite part--Bush does NOT hit the deck. Instead he pops back up to normal height. His face is cagey and attentive, on full alert like a basketball defender. He's little bewildered, but not paralyzed. Instinct consumes him. It looks as if he realizes this is incredible, amazing stuff, a must-see event, history unraveling before him. Maybe some Texas bravado wriggles in. Maybe he feels assassination coming and is determined to watch it in. He has to see how this ends.

In this situation, Bush loses no dignity by crumbling to the floor in the fetal position. We expect this of our presidents--it's the rational thing to do. It's what I would do, and what I hope my friends and family would do. But Bush stands there, a sitting duck, waiting, just as intrigued as we are. He does not take over. He is not in control. Like his presidency, Bush's staredown looks foolhardy and counterproductive, but here a corner of my gut roots for him hard. Bring em on, indeed.

The other shoe drops. Good rotation, and thrown hard, but it sails on him. Bush flinches, raises his hand, but it's not a full duck. He's seen major league pitching. This guy doesn't have it. Finally, the other reporters in the room awaken and move to collar the Shoe Thrower. A little while later, Bush adds the mandatory quip: "All I can report is a size 10."

It's a strange capstone to a presidency, one of those semi-absurd semi-scary incidents like the pretzel-choking, the back-shooting, the bike-crashing. Yet somehow those ten seconds seem to say everything about the man, about guts and intelligence, humor and luck, the dangerous world Bush has helped make worse. For what the world hopes to be the last time, we've watched the man do just enough to keep himself afloat

The emboldened part makes the whole fiasco reek of mega conspiracy.

PoliticsRe: Inflation, Government And The Road Mafia by diggler(m): 6:27pm On Dec 15, 2008
The Nigeria Road Mafia really operates like the Sicilian-American counterparts.

owing to the nature of the political landscape in this country, these Dons also wield tremendous amount of influence within the corridors of power.
Curtailing their activities requires a lot of tact and shrewdness, cos Fashola might've rode on their backs on his way to the top.

However, i feel the solution lies partly in these Infrastructural programs he is executing.

Bush already has a s.crewed up (dont know when seun police go strike) legacy as it were.
so stoning him dont change non of that.

This reminds me of Kenny Ogunbe & Dayo Adeneye's gaffe on Ben TV London.

Some dude called in describing em 40 year olds who shoulod leave the flexing to the small boys.
Instead of handling it like 40sumthin year olds, they lunched a tirade on the caller with typical 9ja venom.

The embarrassed Ben TV presenter had to caution em & in the end they still had to apologize

Bros,
There's nothing like bullet-proof car. That's just a waste of money for our illiterate politicians. Why not deflate the tires and do whatever you want to do.
That's my 2 kobo contribution.
My friend its like u've not heard of run flat tires, even after getting shot at u can still do 75 miles on em.

Besides, the point to bullet proof cars is to give u a greatly improved chance of evading aggressors and not sit there whilst they fire at you.
Most of these bullet proof vehicles (except George Bush'sBarack Obama's armored tank limousine) have tolerance levels of Gunfire.
PoliticsRe: You And Obasanjo One On One: What Would You Tell Him? by diggler(m): 10:52pm On Dec 14, 2008
If i meet OBJ one on one (no bodyguards, no nothing)

I'll through extreme torture, get him to sign over his stash to moi.(which i'll use in developing the country)

I'll ask him how his good his daughter-in-law is in bed & get the chics numba from him

Also if he's eyeing Muyiwas hot foreign wife

Will want to know why of all the mofos in this country, he had to pick Yar'adua to succeed him (who isnt playin to the script no more)

Music/RadioRe: Who Raps Better?50 Cent Or The Game. by diggler(m): 8:15pm On Dec 14, 2008
the best rappers aint always commercially viable.

eg. Nas, GZA 'the genius', Black thought, Talib Kweli, Mos Def etc etc.

50 & The game r both wack critically. tho game is a bit better.

then commercially, 50 is like 2nd only to the Roc himself Jay_Z (critically & commercially acclaimed)
Game is aight but the loss of Aftermath/Dr Dre backing has hit his commercial status. (due to 50 beefing him)

PoliticsRe: 2011: Yar’adua Prepares For Second Term : *atiku, Kingibe, Yerima, Maduekwe May by diggler(m): 5:36pm On Dec 14, 2008
If Yar'adua wants to run for a 2nd term, No amount of maneuvering (except putting him on ice permanently) will stop that ambition from coming to fruition.

Every incumbent (Yar'adua especially) has read the Obansanjo/Atiku 2003 fiasco play book and they'll do whatever to prevent any mofo from controlling that kinda influence.

the power of Incumbency in Nigerian politics cannot be discounted.
PoliticsRe: Problem Starts With The Emirs by diggler(m): 5:26pm On Dec 14, 2008
Emirs & Sultan ain't the Problem.

The issue is that these positions have in recent time been subjected unacceptable levels of government interference. this came about during the years of military rule.

If the independence of this institutions can be regained, They can actually be used as tools to promote good governance & stuff.

The average Almajiri, talakwa & whatever need stuff like this to cling unto.

InvestmentRe: Honey Well Flour Mills Ipo by diggler(m): 9:48pm On Dec 13, 2008
My bone of contention in this deal is the Offer for sale of over 1.2billion shares which will net Otudeko & his family close to N10billion

I feel there is a strong ethical issue with the 'offer for sale' by Otudekos Siloam Global Services ltd.

He should've structured the offer in such a way that after the PO, then he can take his chances with the Open market forces.
Most definitely, he wont cos he knows honeywell share price will plummet after the offer, Not because of poor fundamentals, but simply cos the market
is very unstable right now & is trying to rebound from a bad spell.
Investors therefore will go for the more established companies which they can get at a bargain as opposed to New kids.

Also Mr Otudeko is the president of the NSE so this whole fiasco reeks of conspiracy.

Yar'Adua was always gonna win the appeal.
He is the government.

I would like to find out if Pat Utomi (the only credible 2007 candidate) took part in the supreme court appeal.

Cos of late he seems to have shed the politician toga, u know he's stopped wearing Flowing traditional attire & is back to suits.

FoodRe: Why Nigerians Can,t Be Vegetarians by diggler(m): 5:58pm On Dec 12, 2008
Eating meat is culturally associated with wealth & prosperity in Nigeria.
In parts of the SE where i come from, some titled men will not eat food without meat in it.
even if they are vegetarian (mostly due to medical reasons).

I was told a story of this Poor Red Cap Chief whose wife had to recycle Bone in their soups so that the meat criteria could be met.

so yes in Nigeria, If u dont buy meat with ur food its taken that all might not be well with your finances.
especially considering that in some restaurants, meat starts about 50% sometimes stretching to 500% the cost of the chow.(depending on specs sha)

PoliticsRe: Is It Bush Fault? by diggler(m): 9:31pm On Dec 10, 2008
The invasion of Iraq (Afghanistan had to be invaded post 9/11) is just a factor amongst a myriad of them responsible for the Global financial crisis.

I would say both wars r responsible only for like 5% of the global wahala & maybe 25% of US issues.

for actual causes of the crisis look towards Wall Street and their kangaroo financial shenanigans, Greedy commodities speculators and investors who over heated the markets ($147 oil price & other commodity price spikes).
Americas Credit economy
unsustainable Rapid growth of the Indian & Chinese Economy., etc etc

Also do not discount U & I for whatever unsustainable practices (ecological, economic & co).

U're right on PDP coming back in.Cos they control the machinery (INEC) most especially.

Question is will yar'Adua recontest, cos the rigors of elctioneering might take their toll on his suspect health.

My wife gave birth last August. The final bill was $3650 and we paid $250 for circumcision.
I always knew i messed up the day i decided not to study medicine.
The figures u just quoted r like the cheapest for childbirth in the US (based on what others have been posting)

No wonder my OBGYN friend in the states dey build castles all over Nigeria.
Meen Health Care really is expensive in the states, I now understand why its such a touchy issue with Politicans.

@Post, take the North-Carolina option cos it seems the cheapest so far.

Wish u a safe delivery

Who knows ur American citizen Pikin might just be sworn in as C-IN-C 2057 (only say by then Nigeria will be the greatest Nation on Gods earth and u'll wish u came home to give birth, my midwive GrandMum will handle ur entire runs for free, house u even)

PoliticsRe: Jos Crisis: We Lost All Say Hausa-fulani, Igbo, Yoruba by diggler(m): 11:34am On Dec 09, 2008
Solve the problem of the stifling Poverty In the North & Ethnic Strife will be at an end.

Those Hausa/Fulani youths need to question their elite who are stupendously rich.

If the their economic class improves across the board, u'll see a situation where Hausa/Fulani middles class will spread across the country to earn a livelihood.
As opposed to the candy/cigarette selling mai-guards, cattle herdsmen, shoemakers, Okada riders and those irritating Chadian motor park beggars.

If i were an unemployed H/F youth and i know that by fueling ethnic strife in the north, a relative in the south that feeds me is gonna get offed in retaliation, i'll think twice before i act.
