Recently, while watching this American series 'burn-notice' The protagonist while on a mission to Warri in Nigeria said something that got me thinking.

He described Nigerians as " LOVERS OF FOUL SMELLING PRESERVED FISH"

As an Okoro-man, i took this as a personal insult cos i know he was referring to Stock-Fish and other dried fish that form a major ingredient in many delicacies we enjoy across this nation.

So my question to Landers is;
Do you consider our preserved fish foul smelling?

Mind you, its added to most soups/dishes as a seasoning agent.

By the way that singular statement, constitutes the sole reason why i hate the show (even though its interesting and funny)

The aforementioned 20 have been deemed to have consumed enough to either satisfy them for now, or provide them with base for their further political aspirations.

Another 20, maybe more if u add Niger Delta, will come in to continue the jamboree.

do you that that are different pictures on the back of different 2 dollar bills?

who gives a damn about your degree from the university of toronto. they also teach at universites the egyptians were not black and that the greeks discovered pi despite the fact you have the egyptians building the pyramaids correlating to pi.

"UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO" IS THE NIGERIA HAS TO OFFER?

YOU PROBABLY LEARN VERY LITTLE OF AFRICA'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND THAT "UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO."

OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO SAY HE'S NOT BLACK.
BUT YET THEY can't EXPLAIN WHO THE BLACK MAN ON THE BACK OF THE 2 DOLLAR BILL IS.

THESE ARE THE SAME BASTARDS THAT SAID THE CIVIL WAR ENDED SLAVERY BUT YET THERE GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS SHOWING THERE WERE BLACKS WHO WERE ENSLAVED UNTIL THE 1950'S.

U should know that some companies are empowered by Uncle Sam to print 'non-legal tender notes' as pranks wherein any lucky blokes face could be on it.
I have customized $100 bills with Jay-z's face on em.

The 2 dollar bill is legal tender so why dont make use of urs with a negro picture on the back. (i'll come & bail u when they lock ur behind up for counterfeiting)

My reference to University Of Toronto was used on a lighter note (Nigerian politicians with fake degrees, claim they got such from University of Toronto)

According to him, “what I illegally withdrew was not N34 million but N20 million.
“One morning that I needed to cash money from the bank with my Access Bank visa card, I spotted the faulty machine. I discovered that each time I withdrew money my account would not be debited, so I just kept on withdrawing.

PM.News further gathered that Ehimea cleverly transferred some amount to different banks. These are, ;N3 million, Oceanic Bank; N17 million and United Bank of Africa ;N5 million.
When police questioned both George Osagale and Ighodaro Osahon about the level of their involvement, they denied any knowledge of the ATM scam and Ighodaro stated that “I don’t know that Ehimea had transferred the N12 million into my GTBank account.”
Items recovered from Ehimea include five credit cards and six brands of handsets.
My eagle eye as 'Okoro-man wey i be' tells me there is more to this scam than meets the eye.

First the boy says 20m, Banks says 34m
therefore 34m will be written off, hmmm
OR
there is an insider somewhere we haven't heard about.
how can he perpetuate such acts without flags being raised as Mr Crackles pointed out earlier
These banks spend millions on state of d art IT systems & processes to safeguard against such.
unless some sharp guy on the inside, who has been 'planning' such a scam suddenly sees a fall guy to hide behind.

For all i care this matter should be thoroughly investigated and the Bank sanctioned for laxity.

EFCC and these banks through the Financial Intelligence Unit have World Class systems in place to detect such anomalies.
unless like i said some insider manipulates the system to overlook a few transactions of personal interest.

@Subice

CSI is what it is, a television series that is designed to garner top ratings & ultimately money for networks, producers etc.
In the real world (9ja ghetto) those big big grammer dont solve no crimes.
Tho that dont mean we wont adopt a few basic like fingerprint db & all.

However, what i think our police really need is proper training & motivation for the men on the streets.
Check it, Its a big deal to see an armed Cop in d UK yet, they have one of the best crime fighting units in da world.

Most ppl join d police force in this country cos they dont got options & some dont 'yet' have the cojones to do real crime.
With better service conditons & imroved image of the force, that would change.

i dont see why police wont fight with Banks & Oil companies to recruit 2.1 or even 1st class graduates
i dont see why ex-military officers wont join the police at senior ranks or in consultancy capacities offering their combat experience to the Service.

Its not like the 'Big bellied coyotes' at the top dont know these things, its just that they wont do em cos of greed.

we have a long way to go, but hopefully we'll get there.

Long live nigeria.

btw, the guns r a short term solution to match armed robber firepower.
tho i can only wonder if we did not just buy extra 1000 AKs 4 dem Omila boys
Afterall 'our friends' in da police have been known to provide logistic support

NYSCRe: How Relevant Is National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) In This Dispensation? by diggler(m): 9:16am On Sep 20, 2008
@Mojojojo
U just read my mind

I am against scrapping the scheme.

at the time NYSC was set up, we had a fraction of the graduates we have now & the country has come a long way since then.

My recommendations inline with your own are as follows.

1. length of time spent can even be 3 months.

2.Increasing the Camping/paramilitary aspects of the scheme, camping can be for 6 weeks. (anybody whose served will tell u camp was the best part), also the camping experience can be further enriched and resources that would've been spent paying full years allowance can be used to build expand & improve facilities in orientation camps.

3.Primary assignments to profit oriented venture should be scrapped: since actual service will be for 2 to 4 months excluding camp, all corpers shuld be engaged full time in community development activities. eg. teaching, traffic control, tree planting, creating awareness for govt programmes etc. etc.

4. For ppl that want to get into government service esp. Military & police, their NYSC record should serve as major qualification points and shortcut for same.

5. the most controversial of all is that posting to choice states, Lagos, FCT, RIVERS etc etc could be banned unless strict enforcement of the non-profit oriented nature of the service is ensured.

If these recommendation r in place, the NYSC scheme becomes a level playing field for all and also, Graduates will some sense of patriotism instilled whilst having fun and not worrying (for d time being) about being retained at work place etc etc.

Not only that, the figure head ministers (we dont know how many for this ministry yet) will be from the region no doubt.
But dont be surprised if the real power brokers (DG, Perm sec etc) are from sokoto, Borno & jigawa.
Also wonder what business the ministry has being sited in Abuja.

However, the constitution review is coming up and we would like to see the following:

A repealing of the Petroleum act and the Land act.

A derivation system that better reflects true fiscal federalism.

A repealing of the law that protects Government officials from prosecution whilst they are still in office.

Everything depends on your definition of corruption.

however, we should not make this an ethnic issue cos my grandPop of blessed memeory once told me that even befor independence corruption was around. even within colonial circles.
however the question was when did it become institutionalized.
that i'll say lies sometime between mid-fifties & shagari's sleaze adminstration of late 70's early 80's.

i aint drawing conclusions man, just contributing my 2 cents conclusion is left for u.
QuotaSyste:
The colonial masters didn't appreciate any simplicity in hausa people's world view and stop confusing yourself with the simplicity of the hausa's nature to the white man's because both are no where near in comparison. If not, they the colonialists wouldn't have left their place in search of where to make MORE money which brought them to Africa and other areas of the world. The European race love money and have the urge to make money wilts aggressively more than any other race. The hausas are not known for that, so your simplicity comparison is floored.
The colonialists giving privileges and power to the hausas is because they found them as the compromising mugus. That is people that can easily be maneuvered and used to hold and arrest the development of others while milking us dry. The colonialists knew they can't try such with the igbos of nigeria and they will lose out in their long term plan. Any coincidence as to why they located all nigeria's military installations in the northern part of nigeria before leaving? Because they trusted those mugus and illiterates to look after their oil in the Niger Delta without causing them sleepless nights and you can see that their evil plan is still working until today 2008.  Go back to read the history of nigeria/colonialists power play. Akanu Ibiam, an Igbo was knighted and he threw it back at the queen, so being knighted has no meaning.
dude u brokedown my points real good.
i feel tho that we r share d same view on this because they got d privilidges because their society was as u implied 'muguish' whilst southern society was & still is more complex & advanced.
QuotaSyste:
There is no right you can play to take back power from them. Everything is already programmed for them by the British and they get everyday advise from their masters at No10 Downing street. If you are thinking of playing right, then you will keep on dreaming. They manipulated the census to favor them, so if you wait to win correct election and wrestle power from, then as i said above, you will keep on dreaming. The only way will be by force. They have played into our hands by admitting there was agreement to rotate power and that was in their greedy quest to get power back to the north by all means after OBJ. Good and fine, lets wait for them to finish Yar'adua's term and lets see the next spin they will bring about, then blows will fly across if the power will not come back to the south. Power coming back to the south through rotation is definitely not what you meant by saying "playing the right game"
However i'll disagree with you on this because power truly is cyclic & history don prove am.
where the Roman, Greek, British, Ottoman and all em ancient empires at.

Also take the Jews for example, a jew running for d white house is sensational (less than a black man doing so no doubt), but my point is the  backbone of americas economy ie. Wall street is run by these peeps infact the Global Financial system belongs to them.
Which sect i n history has been as marginalized as these people, yet they still run things.
For a second before anyone brings in the 'Gods own people twist' na as u help your self na so God go help u.

So rather than give up, or just whine bout it, we should put our thinking caps on & leverage our strengths to achieve our aim.
like i mentioned, the boys in the creeks if they can overcome the temptations of criminality have the power to bring this country and them Northern elite to its knees.
So also the other ethnic groups afterall all said and done na Yoruba get Lagos & d engine room of d economy, my people d igbos also have their fingas in some sticky pies.

Bottom line is we've been so busy in the south selling each other out which is why them abokis r getting their way.

Babangida, Abacha & co will tell u that without some high level southern collabration their looting esp the laundering of same would've been impossible.

Let me reiterate, no conclusions r being reached here, i just they yarn.

PoliticsRe: Have You Ever Seen Or Heard Of A Hausa/Fulani 'hustling' Abroad? by diggler(m): 8:56pm On Sep 11, 2008
havent read through the entire posts but i believe a majority responders share the following views.

Instead of hating on them, i think we should show some respect for their ability to dominate the power game in this country.
and see what lessons we can learn.
You can trace all these back to the colonial masters who appreciated the Hausas Simplistic worldview which in some instances mirrored their society. that was why they gave them all the priviledges and powers (i mean Tafawa and the Saradauna where Knighted).

However i believe that power is cyclic and if the rest of the country play their game right (esp my brovas from the South-South) they'll get to claim whats theirs.

To remain on directly on-topic, its the simplistic worldview that'll make the average mallam content with his small handouts. he dont need to go abroad to be a 2nd class citizen when he already owns a country or two (Mind U most of these chumps that've ruled us are suspected to be of Nigerien or even Chadian origin)

for example some friends were insinuating that Yar'Adua needed a kidney transplant and they where like he'll get on d waitng list like others.
My response to this was, On the streets of Katsina he'll find 100 000, yes 100 000 willing donors who'll gladly sign over the maintenance of their families to him and maybe arrange enuf complimentary body spare parts for him . I can easily count southern leaders (esp from my Igbo extraction) that can boast of such supporty.

We southerners should quit the PHD thing and try to leverage on our strengths and sophistication.
