There are strong indications that the country may not meet the 5000 megawatts electricity power generation promised by the end of 2011.

A source at the National Control Centre, Osogbo, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Friday that power generation had even dropped further from 4,089.4 to 3, 881 megawatts.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, had in August said government was exploring various short-term measures to get power generation to 5000 megawatts by December.

A source at the NCC however told NAN that the power generation, which stood at 4,089.4 on Thursday evening, had dropped to 3,881 megawatts by Friday morning.

@ olu girl and @ everyone,  i will like to apply for a usa visa, but need your opinion on this. i got a usa visa last year in the uk, i was then a student and it was for a conference so it was just for 6month, i didn even spend up to 10 days and i came back to the uk. now i'm on a post sudy work visa, i went back to nigeria for holidays 2months ago and decided to apply for a usa tourist visa at d usa embassy in nigeria, but the officer was a very stubborn one, he had issues with the fact that i came home to apply and why my father was the sponsor, although i have a job in uk and can really afford to sponsor the trip but thought since i was applying from home and my father had enough asset that i should use him as my sponsor inshort i felt that should be my strong ties, but it all messed me up, cos dis officer said why should my father sponsor me?how much do i earn from my job in uk i told him? to cut the long story short my mistake was, i should never have gone to nigeria to apply, at d end of d day he refused the visa and told me to go back to uk to apply tha my strong ties is in uk.he didnt look at a single document, even hough i took all my document from uk, dis is just like 2months ago,  the point now is why is my home country not my strong ties, why should it be uk, well now am married and will like to apply after some months here(uk), i have a job although not a professional job but make alot of monney from it, so what do you think er the document to take when next i apply, i really want to ge it right this time, and is uk the best place to apply again since the officer said i should apply here,  my post study work visa is still valid for about 18monhs, and my husband lives in nigeria, pls i need your opinions

Dis, I support and need more protest like dis not militancy from criminals. I can never support any violent group that go about destroying innocent people. We have a govenment and an international human right declaration.

If and wen the time is right, the perpetrators of this heinous crimes will be brought to justice. Nothing last forever and i know the government is working on that, i hope.

In your words, the army has no good reason maintaining law and order in the country ( if the army, for example, sees a bomb threat it should look the other way). Thankfully, the military is not trained like that.

Whoever posted this, and all those responding in support have no clue what the function of Ministry of Defense is or what the Nigerian Constitution says on this. Did you all not take Government class in high school/secondary school? Didn't they teach you the functions of the various ministries of government? What is Dr. Bello Mohammed business with Internal Security Matters. His function is primarily national defense against foreign threats/attacks. You ought to be talking to the Minister of Interior or Internal Affairs Comrade Abba Moro. Primary function: Internal Security(threats and attacks) and Policing. From my understanding, he had since relocated to the Villa since the bombings.

I wonder what SON is doing. There are no Nigerian Standards anymore. Most consumer products don't live up to expectations. I bought a pair of Tiger battery with SON hologram and it didn't work because they were no life in it.

More compact, hardly likely. The machines are meant to crush large volumes of pepper. There are smaller home grinders with smaller motors available, for home use. The ones in the market are meant to pulp-ify large volumes of pepper, crush sacks of elubo, maize, wheat, and so on.

Less ugly? well, I don't know which machine is a work of beauty, when you strip away the nice packaging/housing. Which by the way carries an additional cost, which isn't practical for Africa.

Smaller and equally effective is a pipe dream. Maybe in the new world when we have loss-less machines and superconductors. The machines you speak up are still governed by the same rules of physics: torque, torsion, speed, etc. Bigger core and more windings = physically bigger machine, as well as more powerful machine, in terms of kilowatts or horsepower. And such machines will typically consume more electrical power in order to generate a larger output in terms of mechanical power.

A good analogy is vehicles. While you have a lot of components that have been shrunk in the automobile engine, the engine block essentially remains the same. A 2.4l and a 3.8l engine can never be the same size.

I do see your point though. However, the machines were not even designed by engineers in the first place. More like technicians and artisans.
Maybe engineers should look at introducing some modern technology (feedback control systems, more electronics in the control as opposed to the mechanical valve that's used to control the grinding speed. But will the target market pay for the enhancements? We are still talking Africa oh.

It is a very good move but but[b] finding out who the criminals are and who their sponsors are[/b] and punishing them is still the Presidents job. If they believe the sultan is to blame they should place him on dock and judge and punish him. Enough of this "passing the buck" while the country boils to evaporation with death and speculations. I pity GEJ but I also pity the Sultan.
