brill: Good day, I am working on a thesis on HR and would like some help.I am looking at the intergration of disabled graduates into the Nigerian Workforce. I will be looking at the barriers they face etc, I once posted a question on the nairaland regarding the numbers of disabled graduates fellow nairalanders have in their workforce. The response was very poor, i pray i am now in the right section.
I have also tried to get the numbers of graduates completing NYSC every year, I have had no luck to date my emails go unanswered. , my stumbling block is the fact that i live in England and as such am not able to bombard NYSC with my request for data. Can any one else think of ways to get around this,
Thanking you all in anticipation I think you should bring up the thread again, or make a new thread with a questionnaire asking people the number of disabled workers at their work place-the moderators can put it on the frontpage.one major stumbling block will be the obvious-cultural perception of disabled people in the society and workplace building, hardly accessible for able bodied workers talk less of disabled people, and lack of electricity for lifts and escalators in many building |

ElRazur: If you read the other thread that is discussing this topic as well, I have already explained what I feel the British press do here. In a nut shell, they do NOT have obsession like the Nigerian press. Gordon Brown do have one eye and this have not been a topic for the press to dabble in week-in week-out. On the flip side, the comedians however do mock the people in the government as it is a long standing tradition here. could that be because their own case is conclusive, as in his spokesman or whoever is in the office will CONFIRM his health status. If the president can come out to say what exactly is wrong with him once and for all there wont be speculation upon speculation but if he is criss-crossing countries without telling his own people what is wrong with him then you really cant blame anyone for speculating. Bush, Cheney, Blair and co had heart operations; even before going for treatment they told their country people! you never see them claiming to go for lesser hajj or sunny holidays in Florida I'm very sure one can get other presidents health details online if you look hard enough |

APPARENTLY feeling the impact of the global credit crunch and the increase in crime among her residents, the United Kingdom government is desperate to repatriate over 800 Nigerian prisoners serving various jail terms for sex, drug, immigration and other minor offences in various British prisons. minor offences? Though The Guardian learnt that there was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and ongoing discussions for the past two years, the Nigerian side, led by Senate Olalekan Mustapha (Ogun East), was not ready to be rushed into the exercise, citing the amendment of the Prison Act, as one major hindrance. We visited some of their prisons and almost all of them are filled to capacity." is it credit crunch from two years ago or capacity, i'm sure they've been on this since 2006! His words: "There're some other issues involved because, if you look at the conditions of British prisons, it's far better than the conditions of prisons back home (in Nigeria).
"So, we also are afraid of bringing them back to such prisons at home so that they don't come home and cause some kind of revolution there. the revolution shall be outsourced! |

the press in Nigeria has continued to assert, albeit wrongly that the South-Easterners have abandoned education. the press in nigeria is dominated (in terms of ownership) by south-easterners right? so why are there more male children in school than females unlike in other parts of the world the author didnt say the reason behind the figures just playing with access perhaps? |
Politics › Re: 400 Nigerian Prisoners In British Jails To Be Sent Home by DisGuy: 3:25pm On Feb 21, 2009 |
Agboola1: 400 Nigerian prisoners in British jails to be sent home Newsvine! Nigerian prisoners in British jails to be sent home Hundreds of Nigerian prisoners are to be sent home to serve out their sentences in Nigeria to ease the pressure on British jails.
Up to 400 prisoners are being repatriated when the British government reached a deal with Nigeria after months of negotiating.
The move paves the way for hundreds more criminals to be deported. Gordon Brown has vowed that thousands of prisoners from Nigeria, Vietnam and China will be sent home as “expeditiously as possible”.
An agreement has already been signed with Jamaica, which tops the list of foreign nationals in jails in England and Wales, although only a limited number of the 1,400 Jamaicans in British prisons will be returned home.
The scale of the problem facing the Government was disclosed shortly after Mr Brown took over in 2007. Figures were released showing that only 136 foreign national prisoners were repatriated in 2005, while 9,610 foreign nationals started jail terms in England and Wales.
It also emerged that prisoners from two jails reserved exclusively for foreign nationals were released early to ease prison overcrowding. Some 21 foreign nationals held in Bullwood Hall and Canterbury jails were released 18 days early under the Ministry of Justice’s emergency early release scheme.
Deals on repatriation are being sought with Nigeria, Vietnam and China which account for afurther 1,700 inmates. Until recently prisoners had to consent to repatriation, but ministers have scrapped the rule and hope to increase substantially the number being sent home to serve their jail terms.
Jamaica has 1,400 foreign prisoners in British cells, Nigeria has more than 1,000, while Vietnam and China have 400 and 300 prisoners in British jails.
However, before any deals can be concluded, ministers need assurances that sentences imposed by the British courts will be enforced fully in the home states. It is also likely to be difficult to reach a deal with China, which already refuses to take back failed asylum-seekers and illegal immigrants. what happens to their fundamental human right? some might be tortured, denied play station time, they can take the FG to court to contest their sentences they will be welcomed with their refined skills |

ElRazur: I'm sorry but it is people like you who just ooze ignorance. Why the unhealthy obsession with the man's health? It sucks. Many leaders in history and as of now do have their health issues, I do not see how this is of any difference. Only that people like you and the immature Nigeria's press have an unhealthy interest.
So what if "e go die soon o"? Like you or the idiots who have an obsession with him will live for ever? People get a grip. This ain't no news. having an interest in your presidents health is not unhealthy people have the right to know if their president is kolo or not if he is physical fit to run the office and now its getting odd he is now walking with a limp to the right few years after Tony Blair got in people talked about his grey hair the press talked about Gordon browns big jaw the press talked about John Prescott being overweight the press talked about Alistair Darlings colour combination |

Kobojunkie: I am sorry when I am looking for change in the agricultural sector, I am looking for increases around 300%, not 12%. We are so way below where we ought to be. and a mere 12% increase is not going to cut it. There is ofcourse the issue of corruption and all that also needs to be curbed so the money actually goes into agricultural programs that actually help move us up and out of where we are today. 300%in one year?? how much is the budget even? and how much will go into education, security, health etc in case you dont remember the price of oil is down $38!! there's an increase in the annual allocation to the sector and that's a good thing considering there are other competing sectors that bring generate money and employment too plus we get grants from EU and others for the FADAMA program now in its third year/phase perhaps they should get more from the reserves into agriculture and follow every penny something like a special fund for agriculture but xyz will end up accusing you of favouring you part of the country |
Politics › Re: Global Recession And Africa by DisGuy: 12:14am On Feb 21, 2009 |
Kobojunkie: Sure, I believe it is the common sense thing to do, but administration after administration, we have seen nothing of the sort so far. As @Gamine pointed out, instead of pumping more money into agriculture this time around, our dead president moved to cut wages as reaction to the crisis. allocation for agriculture moved up to 12% from 7% the year before I think the problem is the state government are not doing much especially those in the 'agricultural states' apart from d istributing donating fertilisers to emirs and kinsmen. the dams are always been repaired or rebuilt no statistics whatsoever to know how much is being produced and how many people are being employed in that sector |

BAC: That you have a Phd does not mean you can handle this type of crisis. Soludo is just going through the motions. He has not got a clue what to do. The best thing though is to tell the truth, the truth is that not much can be done for the naira, Exactly, He is in charge of the CBN so he should take responsibilities for almost everything that happens with the currency and the banking sector, the CBN has been threatening the banks as if he is scared of throwing the books at them, he is protecting them too much. All they have to do is explain what's happening to the public instead of allowing unnecessary speculations the things are in nigeria its very difficult to believe our so called technocrats haven't got a shares in major banks and companies which will definitely affect their duties as regulators- with people like madam Ndi Okereke its really hard to believe she hasn't got her hands in the cookie jar |
