Career › Re: Postgraduate Degree Has Minimal Significance In Nigeria Compared To: by DisGuy: 10:23pm On Mar 16, 2009
rhufffryda:
a postgraduate degree has Zero significance in nigeria especially even when u dnt av any valid work experience. what a cousin of mine is going through is enough fact for me. after spending more that 10 million naira on a US masters degree including tuition, accommodtion, feeding, books etc, she is still being treated as an entry level graduate just because she doesn't have d necessary professional qualifications yet. this happened in about three big international firms. I would advice dese young graduates scrambling for student visa to go n study abroad for a masters degree that that is not d beginning of career life. u still av to do ur professionals. I see it as errant nonsense though. share ur views everyone.
Ive always wondered why people rush to do PG with zero experience in fact some do it before going for the NYSC
How do you expect a non-entry level job without previous working experience!

The chance of getting a job (not necessarily mid-level/senior) increases with a PG
and the probability of getting promoted also increases with a PG, in a structured organisation
you will get promoted faster than those with a a first degree as long as your performance is above average!

ElRazur:
It is a good think I do not eat cornflakes as am lactose [milk] intolerant. grin

The problem really do not lie with people like me [and you] who are not in the country, the problem lies with the way the country have been runned ever since we discovered oil. I am merely reacting to what any human will.

On the flip side, I remember watching on the news in Nigeria, when it was proposed about last year or so that the naira will be 1-to-1 with the pound. The first public joe [or should I say Mumuni] that was interviewed said "oh that it good news, it will at least show those proud people abroad that their money is nothing" or something along those lines. I couldn't stop laughing when I heard those comments. Little did he realise that Nigeria stand a lot to lose if it happens in the short and long run.
lol i watched the same news!! and also read a lot along that line on nairaland

Good news for people who are abroad.  grin With a few dollars in my pocket we can live like kings for a few months, before heading back to work hard again. This can only be good news.
but thing will still be expensive considering everything including toothpicks are imported by local businessmen!

imagine buying cornflakes for £6  wink
Business › Re: Why Can't Nigerians Shop Online? by DisGuy: 9:20pm On Mar 16, 2009
For a state like Lagos, one would expect forward thinking entrepreneurs to start things like that
but I'm sure there are several brickwalls like cost, postage system, demand, banking/ internet banking, consumer laws
security and culture (people like to view/use/feel before paying for goods or services)

Big shops should introduce internet shopping especially in places where there is demand for it

I think we should start from lagos first. most of these places are not even available outside of lagos

Is it still possible to get away victories in the Nigerian league?? cheesy grin
A pal told me away victories are so rare because referees are scared shitless of what home fans would do to em.
very rare, Rangers Vs Heartland, 1-3

The former national team skipper also said his club are paying the price of poverty.

"Most of our away games are lost through penalties in the dying minutes of the game. They award penalties against us with two or three minutes to go.

"Last week in Gombe, a penalty was awarded for a non-existent foul outside the box. The referee picked up the ball and took it to the penalty spot.

"We have protested, but nothing has been done so far."

Ikhana's revelation led an investigation, but so far, the results of the panel have still not been made public.

There have been pockets of complaints about the standard of refereeing in Nigeria, and while the introduction of television has curbed blatant cheating, it has also shown up some clearly redoubtable incidents.

Gateway officials claimed after their league game in Warri that the match was unjustifiably allowed to stretch to over 110 minutes until a controversial penalty was awarded to the home team.

Politics › Re: Kwara 2011: Gbemisola, Bukola In Cold War! by DisGuy: 10:08pm On Mar 13, 2009
Jarus:
I have been hearing rumours from home(Kwara) on the plan to make Senator Gbemisola Saraki replace his brother as the nxt Governor of Kwara state, but I have been dismissing it as untrue. But after reading it on the pages of newspaper, I'm beginning to believe it is real.

But Bukola has really impressed me with his non-disposition to her sister's plan, especially at this early stage:
"The Governor immediately called a meeting of the stakeholders warning us against any campaign for the 2011 governorship as he still has a lot of work to do before the expiration of his tenure", one of the Special Advisers to governor Bukola Saraki who pleaded anonymity disclosed.

http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/policy_politics/article01//indexn2_html?pdate=130309&ptitle=Sarakis%20at%20crossroad%20over%202011%20seat

Much as I did not have any problem with Saraki installing his son, Bukky, as Governor(simply because he had installed sons of other people and his son is as qualified), but replacing him with Gbemi is going to be disastrous.
how can you read what you read in the paper, the article sounded like a typical gossip column, so made up

Gbemi has only done one term in the senate and she's not really showing much face in the state anyway
I reckon she will settle for deputy governor or wait after her second term as a senator

Now that is what I'm talking about, DisGuy.  Prices that I can study, and not rebuttals against my quest for titles too many to read out.   I hope I am correct in presuming that these title purchase prices are negotiable, and also with respect to earning my Waziri-hood by marrying a Hausa girl, will I get to select the bride according to my lust and taste, or would I have to settle for the any available moderately priced wench offered by the Sultan ?

Kobojunkie you are hereby deputized as a multiple chieftaincy title holder fortified with a string of unverifiable academic credentials whose modalities will be forwarded to you after you remit the mandatory non-refundable registration fees, and submit your account details, social security number, driver's licence number, mother's maiden name and current residential address for our records.
It's hierarchical Mon ami, you choose the first waziri's daughter (anyone of your choice), then promise the sultan you will be coming back to pick from his flock after two to four years depending on how well the first pick performs, During the turbanation (the part where you get to dress like an overweight ninja) you have to promise the other waziris you will be recommending their daughters to your lustful associates  grin
