eluquenson: Vice President -North.*

Yet, the Poorest states in Nigeria and
Educationally backward areas in Nigeria are in the North. Now ask yourself, what are other areas like South-south, West,East doing that these people have stripped the country of all the goodies.
at this rate you'd think all the senators and national assembly members are northerners, what were/are all the 'brilliant eastern politicians' doing whilst these 'backward' people are pulling everything?

eluquenson: Westerners are not too good when it comes to politics, that's why they always conspire with the Northerners as the like of Obasanjo & Abiola, Akintola & so on, we all aware of another story""APC""" of a thing which I don't think can rip GEJ the position next season.

I give kudos to the Northerners for a well crafted job, so let others sit right.
and the easterners are the best when it comes to politics- No wonder the Niger deltans even beat them to the position theyve always agitated for

DaLover: Imagin 5 or 6 more refineries around the country, the employment opportunities etc
This is very old news,
The govt should immediately take the following steps,
-privatize the govt owned refineries
-fully deregulate the downstream sector, pull NNpC out completely
-initiate policies to impose punitive taxes on imported petroleum products
-initiate policies to impose punitive taxes on exportation of crude oil
-initiate policies to encourage exportation of refined petroleum products

This along with the deregulated power sector will provide the necessary jump start for the Nigerian economy.
nigeria is a funny country how ever you look at it

when the 'refineries' were privatised[albeit hurriedly], people shouted monopolisation
when he puts his money- there are still some murmuring monopoly
Seems it would take someone who will jus tignore the noise and get on with it

I wonder what happened to all those high chiefs that bought license for refineries

Afam4eva: I have been to a lot of government parastatals, from NITEL to NEPA to NPF to WAEC to Immigration office and the story is the same. Their staff have a very bad customer service. These people have no regard for human beings. They just speak to people anyhow they like like they own the person's life. There was a day i went to passport office and the way they talked to me, made my self-esteem to drop. Those people are very wicked and bitter lot.

I've always wondered why they're like this. I can understand the NPF to some extent because they're not well paid but i don't think staff of other government parastatls are badly paid. So, what's the source of their bitterness?
you think if they are well paid tehy will be any better?

it's not about salary -it's just general attitude- thats the society we live in- a little bit of power and gbam, they play semi-god- yes sir yes ma

naptu2: smiley that's what I mean. The new refinery in Niger Republic, the planned refineries in Ondo, Lekki and Badagry all remind me of this.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/03/why-we-cant-build-refinery-in-nigeria-shell/
even that number is not enough for the population of West/central africa vs the population- the economy is 'growing'- more taste for cars and so on

Shell wants to concentrate on crude exploration, they have more interesting projects- they will make more from importing and collecting the difference from the govt- easier than paying some touts and high chiefs all the time
BusinessRe: Harvard Business Article Praising Dangote's Oil Refinery by DisGuy: 12:29pm On Sep 13, 2013
AnanseK: The substance of the story (simplified) is that Dangote's move is more likely to happen than those you mentioned.
thats very true-he is a finisher- the rest are more likely to complain, play hard ball with national assembly, get tangled with western contracts and sophisticated finance and consequently get carried away by easier projects-trading
BusinessRe: Harvard Business Article Praising Dangote's Oil Refinery by DisGuy: 12:04pm On Sep 13, 2013
naptu2: I wonder if the market will be able to absorb the extra capacity that will be created. Oando Group is also going to build a refinery in Badagry (part of Chagoury's new business city) and the Chinese, Lagos State and Federal Government are going to build one in Lekki.
EXPORT

there are very few refineries in West africa

There's hardly any info you need about goings on in Nigeria and human interests you can't find here
Are there no British sites which mirror this? huh huh embarassed

Mr Mba said that the BCMR was not a duplication of the registration being done by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) but complementing the commission.

Car TalkRe: Police Begin Biometric Registration Of Vehicles by DisGuy(op): 12:46pm On Sep 10, 2013
We are going to make the database open to our sister agencies,” he said. “If for example other security organisations want to carry investigation and they need to get information from our database, we will make the information available to them.’’
He said that the new system was capable of capturing 20 million fingerprints per second, an equivalent of two million people at 10 prints per person.

“As a store of information, it will provide a one-stop forensic base for all manners of investigations which will greatly enhance policing in tracking missing cars and preventing crimes,’’ he said.

Mr Mba said that registration under the BCMR could be done at designated banks, online and police commands across the nation.
He said that motorists were expected to pay N3,500 to register their vehicles under the system, while owners of tricycles would pay N1,500.

Car TalkPolice Begin Biometric Registration Of Vehicles by DisGuy(op): 12:44pm On Sep 10, 2013
FRSC, VIO, NPC, seems biometric is the current buzz word in the civil service and hiding under the guise of terrorism generating revenue

The Nigeria Police will from September 16, change the process of vehicle registration from the analogue Central Motor Registry (CMR) to a digital Biometric Central Motor Registration (BCMR) system. The BCMR is a technological means of attaching automobile owner’s personal data to his or her vehicle for proper identification and protection

Frank Mba, police spokesperson, explained at a news conference on Monday in Abuja that the new system was part of efforts in repositioning the police to effectively tackle crimes and terror.

Under the system, hand-held machines would be used to verify the particulars of vehicles, rather than manual checking.

Mr Mba also said that the BCMR would assist in addressing the incidences of car theft, kidnapping and other crimes, associated with the use of vehicles.

“The decision informing the introduction of the BCMR is against the backdrop of contemporary security challenges bordering on terrorism, high incidence of car theft, kidnapping and other crimes,” he said.

Mr Mba said that the system was designed for forensic analysis where fingerprints could be matched or verified against registered fingerprints collected during the registration.
