The following info is based on a city in the North East. 1. Stay in a city with a huge black population, preferably with a Nigerian community. From the top of my head cities/states are - Brooklyn, Queens, Newark, East Orange, Jersey City, Maryland, Houston, Atlanta suburbs (Alpharetta). 2. You don’t need anything special to rent an apartment but you might need to pay more if you don’t have a credit score. 3. You are only allowed to take clients in an accredited salon, you can’t braid hair for profit from your apartment. In some states braiders are allowed to rent a station in a salon. Since you can sew, you can make clothes and sell online. There is a market for ready to wear Ankara on Etsy. 4. No clue 5. I am sorry can’t help but if you stay in a city with a Nigerian community you might get help. 6. Tuition and school lunch is ‘free’ for 0-5 and 1st grade - 12th grade. You don’t need ‘papers’ to put your child in a school. Education is guaranteed for children living inside the US. |
Nice thread. 1. I procrastinate a lot - I want to increase my work output and maximize my talents. 2. Example of 1. - start an online interior design shop ( I’ve been on that for three years 3. Pay more attention to my health. 4. Travel more. |
You didn’t deserve to get beat up on Christmas Day. Personally, I believe that anytime violence is introduced in a relationship, the relationship is done. It never happens only once especially when the abuser is not remorseful. It’s even worse that your children are exposed to violence. If you apologize for being beaten or you entertain his silent treatment you’ve given him a green light for future beatings. |
fieryy:lol at clueless. Well, now that we know ‘she’ craves attention from rape threads, then it’s best we don’t feed that craving. At the end of the day ‘she’s’ a non-factor. There are real victims of rape that live in a society where they will never get justice. Let’s continue (for those that do it already) to channel our frustration to where it matters, the politicians and law enforcement that have the power to draft and enforce laws. |
Bukatyne issa male! For someone that has been married with kids for a considerable number of time is always missing in threads that need the in-depth knowledge and experience of a woman with that profile. If he’s in such threads, he reels out questionnaires for the OP. Ignore him, this is what he wants and lives for, back and forth with (f)s in the family section. No pick-me has such an abhorrent view on rape. |
CanadianNaija:Thank you, I was about to type this. It doesn’t make sense that your husband’s girlfriend will only try to prevent your husband from having sex with you but not with other girls. What kind of selective jealousy is that? If you’re the “divorce is not an option” crew then opt for a temporary separation where you use this period to focus on yourself and your kids. You can’t be starving yourself for a man that isn’t even bothered. The separation ‘probably’ can make him miss you enough to do right by you and his family. Please take care of yourself, your husband is certainly taking care of himself. |
For most Nigerian men their relationship and attitude to sex in a marriage is unhealthy and full of entitlement. Your wife is a human being with feelings and emotions she is not just some hole on a wall you can go dump in when you feel the itch. Ironically, the time, patience, attention and love they refuse to give the wife because they’ve bought the cow is the same or more they spend on the mistress to get the sex. Do you think a mistress will have sex with a Nigerian husband if she is treated or has the same responsibilities as the wife? Nigerian men do better, put in the work, help in childcare, help with chores, tell her she’s beautiful, make your wife happy, take her out, for most women emotions and state of mind play a huge part in sex. Happy wife, Happy sex life. |
micbjrex:You’ve half solved your problem. You guys have different parenting styles; don’t present a united front and your kids are manipulating the situation to suit them. You and your wife should have an extensive discussion away from your kids and reach an agreement. When they come to either of you to override each other, always reaffirm the initial authority even though you don’t agree and discuss your objections with each other behind your kids. E.G. the ER visit, instead of overriding your wife, you should’ve told your daughter to wait while you confirm with her mother, then you tell your wife you don’t want your daughter to go. With a united front, you guys will then tell your daughter your decision. Ditto, her overriding you on their diet. Your kids are getting mixed signals and it will only hurt them long term. Also, it’s easy for resentment to build between you and your wife if one or both of you feel your authority is been disregarded/disrespected. |
Very nice video. Cabo Verde is beautiful. |
Singapore1:Wait! What?! Season 2 is 2021?! Why? Do you know why? |
oweniwe:That’s not a good analogy. Unless the people watching the suya man and his suya paid a fee to watch him do all that then both are not comparable. Strippers are compensated for stripping, some are OK with their stripping money while some want more. |
pocohantas:Thank you. I already agreed with the OP, I don’t know why both of our points can’t be true. |
blesoh:Exactly. |
Ryan03:Oh, you’re a stylist? Then your input is very valid on this thread. |
nnekaike: Surrey2Bimshire:Thank you. When you use “All” in a sentence without proof that’s generalization and that will always be an unrealistic position to take. |
PeacenLove2:Thank you! This was what I was trying to say, thanks for explaining it better than I did. |
fieryy: ![]() |
fieryy:At bolded, lol really? Okay then. Yea, generally one example is usually not good statistics. |
fieryy:Were you attacking me? Again for the umpteenth time you keep missing the “daily” in “daily maintenance”. Obviously all hair types can be styled in a bun, but you’re not being realistic if you think ALL hair textures can sustain a daily maintenance of a bun for an everyday before school prep. If the child desires to keep her hair and her mother obliges, most sane mothers will always go the route of less pain and more manageable hairstyles for their children. |
computergeek:No sane person will disagree with what you just typed. Again, for some, cornrows/braids once a week is the best option for both mother and child. |
fieryy:That is YOUR hair! Are you going to tell me that ALL hair textures for a child is easy breezy to style every morning before school? |
fieryy:And you keep missing the “DAILY” in “daily maintenance” |
fieryy:You just quoted me to type what I didn’t type. First, I agreed with the OP but said it isn’t true for ALL hair textures. For some hair textures, the second pic is not realistic for DAILY maintenance, no matter the amount of hair products you use, it’s even more torturous to subject the child to that kind of pain every day before school. For some, except chopping the hair all off what is best for the child is to get a good braider with light hands to braid/cornrow the girl’s hair once a week. My point, life isn’t black and white, there are some children with hair textures where styling can be a daily challenge. So, we shouldn’t judge all mothers who have children with cornrows and not a bun. |
computergeek:Well, with some hair textures there will always be some sort of pain when styling, so a parent makes a judgement call, once a week or daily struggle. The style in the second pic is not realistic for some textures of black hair to maintain everyday. P.S. I am talking about regular cornrows/braids etc for school. |
I agree, but this isn’t true for all hair textures. For some hair textures it’s better the kid goes through the ‘pain’ once a week than a daily torture of styling. Edit: some monikers have an issue with my ‘pain’ in quote. For some hair textures, any hair style including a short haircut will always cause some sort of pain for the child. So, if the kid wants to keep her hair and the mother obliges, cornrows/braids done by a good braider once/twice a week is the best option for the mother and child. The examples in the OP is not true for all hair textures. |
cococandy:Preach. It should also be legal and well regulated. |
Dan2000:There’s nothing wrong in wanting a certain aesthetic preference in your wife but sometimes your preference isn’t mutual and you have to accept that. The way people wear their hair, what they eat, the kind of songs they love etc is part of them and forcing them to change a part of them is cruel. |
Dan2000:lol your wife refused to get a haircut so you’re regretting valuable sacrifices you made for your family? Why didn’t you date and marry a woman with a short haircut? |
UyaiIncomparabl:Yea, wrong crowd. Type your symptoms on the google search button, and you will find plenty resources online. There are many people that are like you on sane forums that are equipped to help you. It could also be you’re living in a wrong society, when you’ve a very different ideology from the huge majority, it can be very depressing. Probably there isn’t something wrong with you, you just need to be with like minded people. P.S. you’re not a sadist, sadists derive pleasure from other people’s suffering. |
OP please do not blame yourself for marrying him. If you didn’t live with him when you guys were dating then we’ve to take into account that dating and married life are two completely different things. Situations that present itself in a marriage rarely occurs while you’re dating for you to evaluate him. Also, when dating you’ve lots of communication, long talks on the phone, on dates etc. everyone is on their best behavior. Most times you have to live with someone 24/7 for you to know them completely and even that might not be enough. Unfortunately your OP describes the average Nigerian husband. Huge ego, emotionally stunted with zero conflict resolution skills. Conflicts are resolved via violence or silent treatment. I have written a similar post here before. He will NOT change, in fact he doesn’t think he’s doing anything wrong, he provides, he doesn’t beat you and he doesn’t cheat, to him he’s the husband of the year. You have two options, leave or create your own happiness within your marriage, focus on your kids and career, have your own circle of friends, go out and live and never outsource your happiness to another human being. |
bryanarchie:Then he should go, his father might not make it to January and he will not forgive you if he decides to stay with you for Christmas. Let him go be with his sick father, when he comes back, you guys can talk about your Christmas problem. |
Pussywar:lol at patriarchy princess, I have never heard it before but it’s very apt. Also, some of these (f)s are men. |
