shadeyinka:I understand perfectly and i agree, if spiritual experiences are subjective experiences, then there is no way of proving it and obviously no logical way of concluding its not real, but problems arises when it comes to subjective experiences, for instance: The color Red, it doesnt exist physically in nature, there is nothing like an objective Red, infact we can say Red doesnt exist, but we all see Red subjectively. A sweet tea is not sweet, sweetness is not a physical property of the tea, infact sweetness doesnt exist, it only becomes sweet when we experience it, it is subjective. So you see bro, subjective experiences might not necessarily be unreal but it still doesnt guarantee the existence of the source of the experience. I think I understand your "brand" of atheism: the Agnostic type. However, I think that in the true sense of the word, agnostics are NOT searching for an answer. It looks like the failure of (others) Theists in presenting a unified personality God AND the lack of reproducible objective evidence is the basis for your rejection of the Theist position.Yes, i am an agnostic atheist. No, i havent, if God as described in religion does exist, i would want to find him. Then again, i have an issue with the manner in which i am to find him. Like i tried to explain earlier, subjective experiences are not necessarily unreal but can be unsure. I might feel something and hear something, but what is the assurance that what i am feeling and hearing is from God or its just my brain hallucinating?, if its not objective enough, how can i be sure its part of the Natural world?... These are issues that arises when it comes to subjectively looking for God, i would prefer an objective manner which would be clear to all, and if it is insisted that subjective manner is the way, then it just means that God like Red is just a subjective experience. If Einsteins definition of God is what Theists hold, there would not have been any schism BTW Theists and Atheists. Theists definition of God in hinged on an Intelligent Consciousness who set everything in motion.Atheists ask for objective evidence because thats the only evidence that can be assuring, if God is only subjective, then he can mean anything to anyone, thereby not being independent of our subjective experience. Oh, here I was just comparing the kind of world we seem to live in when dreaming as similar to spiritual experiences. In a dream , nothing is impossible!Ok, so if God can only be known through subjective experience, then i think Atheists are right to conclude he doesnt exist, because something that can only be described subjectively like Redness or Sweetness can never be regarded as a real property of reality and just exists in our senses. |

I think you first have to define what God is... Atheists dont claim there are absolute no Gods, because God is a relative term, so when you start the conversation, you have to define God. Some people take money as God, well obviously God exists in that scenario and i can believe in that. Einstein said God is the summation of the laws of physics, i agree because there is evidence, so God exists. Christians say God is a spaceless, timeless, immaterial intelligent being, No evidence for that God, so belief is withheld. I really dont see how this process affects how i am a free thinker ![]() |
shadeyinka:First, Atheism is the disbelief in God or Gods, its not a religion or a doctrine, so not all atheists agree on the same issues, so what i would say now is entirely my own opinion. There is a difference between a subjective experience and an objective experience, i cant ask you how you see the color red, and not because i cant do it physically, but because you cant explain in terms which any person would understand. The experience of red is as subjective as it gets. So when claim is made, i personally look at it this way, is it subjective or objective?, if it is subjective, like it was an inner voice, or a dream, there is no way you can explain that to me, so i cant ask you for evidence the same way i cant ask you to explain red, but if it is objective, something that wasnt only experienced by you but by others as well, then that claim can be scrutinized and demand of evidence is mandated. I still think both Atheist and Theists make a strong emphatic claim. There is a miswording @bolded, Now i dont know about other atheists but my reason for belief is and has to be based on evidence. People over the centuries have claimed that yahweh, allah, zeus, vishnu, sango, obatala, odin, ra e.t.c made the universe, Noone has brought reasonable evidence for their claims, and so i choose to reject their claims and withhold belief. Now does that mean i claim that No God exists?, No. It depends on what you define as God, Einstein believed God was the summation of all the physical laws of the universe, if thats the case, then, yes, obviously God exists. So you see its about definition and evidence, i cant say there isnt something outside the universe intelligent that created the universe, i have no evidence to make that claim, all i can do is examine the one presented before and make my conclusion, if in the future, evidence was found that the universe was created by a race of spiritual beings, thats great, but right now all the claims have no grounds and so i reject them. I agree with you. With some stress, one can imagine a limited form of a 2D universe but moving from 3D to 4D will be absolutely impossible. The commonest form of illustration of the spiritual rhelm is the dream. Anything is possible in a dream. It is even possible to have a dream within a dream, time is meaningless etc. I am not implying that the spiritual state is strictly like the dream ( I just use it to explain the unknown with the known).I still find dreams as a connection to the spiritual not a worthy explanation, why?, because dogs dream, chimps dream, even dolphins. So are these animals also in connection to the spiritual? Dreams are obviously a product of a advanced brain, if there was no brain, there would be no dreams. So i find out that most of the spiritual realm cant survive without physical stuffs, and why is that? |
shadeyinka:If the spiritual is outside the universe, then they cant be any evidence for it, but we hear people talking about spirits and spirtual encounters which makes alot of skeptics like myself ask for evidence for these so called encounters. As Atheists are we not claiming a knowledge that is beyond us i.e. using the limited physical laws time-wise to attempt comprehending the impossible and them coming up with an answer. The simple answer is No, Atheists do not make a claim, infact they are the first that would say "i dont know", Noone knows whats outside the universe and what was before the universe began, the issue comes when theists claims they know what is outside the universe and that thing is God. So you see, theists are the ones claiming knowledge that is beyond us, not the atheist. A few days ago, I was trying to visualize a universe in 2 dimensional space of course plus time. It was impossible, try it. It made me pounder on a universe without time (eternity) and realized that maybe you as atheists have assumed too much.It is possible to imagine a universe with just 2 dimensions, the issue arise when you ask these 2dimensional beings to imagine the third dimension, just as how we as 3 dimensional beings would find it difficult to imagine a 4dimensional universe. Like i said earlier, Atheists dont make claims, they simply say they dont know, theists makes the claim that God is outside the universe but when asked for evidence, there is none to back up the claim, and so atheists just reject the claim. Sorry I didn't intend to derail your post I thought I had answered the question in your original post.No issues, i always love our discussions. |
shadeyinka:No, its not possible. The four fundamental laws depends on the existence of time and so if time doesnt exist, the laws also dont exist! |
shadeyinka:Superb response. Even though i don't agree with many of the predictions you made, i believe its a response that requires applauding. |
EyeHateGod:Wow, thats pretty impressive...it would make lot of sense if it came from churches themselves, that way the blind followers would just do what they know how to do best, blindly follow. |

DoctorAlien:You see what i mean...total waste of time. I would leave you with this assignment, Read on Radio-dating and how rocks are aged. It should enlighten you abit...takia |
DoctorAlien:This is a misconception on what mutation is, and mind you, Darwin never knew anything like genes or DNA, so where you got your idea from that he conceded to mutants is beyond me. Now whats mutation and those it actually do?, your DNA are made of four nucleotides, Adenine, Thymine, guanine and cytosine. Popularly referred to as A, T, G and C respectively. A binds to T and G binds to C, a string of these nucleotides are called genes and they code for a specific protein that builds up a cell. When pair is replaced, it changes the corresponding output protein, now these protein could be disadvantageous, it could be good, but it does mean mutations is a bad thing, infact every time a cell splits, mutation occurs, it occurs all over your body right now. |
DoctorAlien:1. Fossil records. 2. DNA 3. Comparative Anatomy 4. Embrology 5. Geological distribution 6. Vestigial Organs 7. Common structures Many more that cannot come to my head now. Now let me tell you about how we humans are driving evolution, and i could use many examples like bananas, corn, cows e.t.c but i would focus on Dogs. Dogs are descended from a species of wolves, they were first domesticated about 15000years ago. We humans started controlling their breeding, the features we liked we kept and breed and the ones we dont,we discarded. Now look at the sheer amount of diversity of dogs, we have german Shepard, poodle, pitbull, Rottweiler, Great Dane, Labrador, Husky, bulldog, pug, Dobberman, Chihuahua e.t.c. We did it, we drove this changes in 15000years, imagine what Nature would do in 3.5 billion years. |
DoctorAlien:Point of correct, i am not preaching anything, Evolution is a fact, whether you accept it or not. I try to educate and thats all i do, i wont bother arguing with you on its validity, its like arguing with someone who believes the earth is flat, timewasting and fruitless. Now i would give a preamble, Evolution is drived by two factors, Reproduction and Selection. Life reproduces, how does it do that, by duplicating its DNA(i am certain you know what DNA is and what it does), now during duplication, things dont go as smoothly as expected, they could be copying errors, genes could be duplicated, e.t.c. All these produces a new kind of sequence that codes for a different protein than the one in the parent organism, it would then create a feature that wasnt present in the parent organism even if its miniscule. Selection is when this feature comes in contact with the environment, if its a beneficial feature, it helps the organism to survive better and it passes its genes to the next generation, and if its not beneficial, then the organism dies off. With this process repeating itself slowly over aeons of time, you can imagine how future generations would be dramatically different from past generation separated by alot of time. |
DoctorAlien:Lol, you are trying to bait me and it wont work, i have literally spent time explaining evolution to folks on here and at the end, they reply with a non-chalant and unlearning attitude. I believe your case wont be any different, you want to ridicule it not learn and for that i wont be a party to unnecessary tug of war. Fyi, Evolution has nothing to do with the origin of life, it only explains the diversity of life on the planet and says nothing about its origins. |
DoctorAlien:I am guessing you missed biology class when Evolution by Natural selection was taught. Anyways, if i told you, you would call me a liar, if i explained it to you, you would still say its a lie, so it would be a pure waste of time, Although Evolution by Natural selection is a course and really cant be explained here, so if you really want to know, go to the library, do some internet research, i am positive you would get materials that explain to you how it works and if at the end, you still ask the question you ask, then all i can say is,"more grace to your elbows". |
adjoviomole:If you were trying to make a point, it got lost in a lot of fallacies, sorry to say. First of all, Noone said the Dolphin is a flaw, infact it is a very beautiful creature and highly intelligent. It lives in water and it is perfectly adapted to where it lives, if it wasnt, it would have died out a long time ago. The Dolphins are mammals, they give birth to there young alive, breath through a blowhole which on close inspection resembles a nostrils, their fins move up and down compared with the fish that moves side to side, they are warm-blooded compared with fishes that are cold-blooded, they have lungs very similar to that of a land animal. These are a few of their features but they are work together to keep the dolphin alive in water. Now, to my second point, how did the dolphin come about?, was it created by a designer or did it evolve like science claims?. Well, if a designer wanted to design a sea animal, he would give that animal gills, because we know it comes in handy, keep the animal cold-blooded, its alot better and safer. If we examine fishes, we can deduce that if there was a designer, he or she does already knows how to create a sea-animal then why is the dolphin heavily flawed compared to other sea-animals(fishes). If indeed there was a designer, he was either incompetent and just wanted to experiment or he wasnt paying attention. Now, lets examine evolution, from evolution, we know mammals are the youngest kids on block, they give birth to their young alive, have lungs for land, are warm-blooded, all of the features dolphins and other cetaceans have, if that is true, then it is possible that dolphins and their ancestors were once land animals that slowly moved to the sea, thats why they are not has good as fishes and also have lots of features that clearly were for land animals. In conclusion, Evolution does a way better job in explaining why the dolphins have all the features it has today than a designer, although there is still a possibility of an incompetent designer(noone knows). |
obowunmi:So because your aunty appeared to you in a dream, that automatically means she is a witch?...smh Dreams are not evidence for witches, thats archaic and backward and i really hope you snap out of that mentality. |
whiteNgold:You totally avoided and ignored my three questions... @bolded, Be sincere with yourself, you have a child who doesnt know what hot or cold is, and you tell that child not to go near that hot water while keeping the child in the same room you kept the hot water, the child finally get burnt and you want to tell me that nobody would blame you? Imagine the creator of the universe, he created mars, pluto, venus, all the stars and all the galaxies and of all these real estate in the universe, he ddnt see anywhere to hide his tree, its in the middle of the garden where he kept man who by the way doesnt know anything, and you are blaming adam?, Dude be sincere with yourself, dont that sound like bullshit? |
anonimi:If thats the case, then white people should be drooling when people like Dangote, Omotola, Wizkid, Jim Iyke visits their countries...These people pratically lives abroad and dont get a wave from the average white man on the street, but when their stars come here, we are all over them like they are our gods...smh |
The inferiority complex we have in this country eh...chai He went to Rome, i dont see the Italians doing like asif a king came, we are here happy that he visited us...smh |
Toybreezy:The idea that you must base your morality on someone is a pitiful one. We are all humans, living on a perch of dust floating in a very vast universe, all we want to do is to live life to its fullest and in that process help others achieve the same goal. You dont need the promise of eternal life full of bliss or the threat of eternal torment to be good to your fellow man, good to your fellow living things, and be good to the planet in which you live, and if you do infact need those things to be moral, than you are indeed a lot cause and a disgrace to the human species. |
whiteNgold:1. You said and i quote "God is the creator of Good alone"; and "yes the devil brought about evil", so if the devil was created, then the evil was created along with his nature which finally says that God is the originator of Evil, or do you disagree that the devil was created by God? 2. If man did not know what was Good and what was Evil before he ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, then how can God hold him responsible for his actions?, he obviouly didnt know what he was doing was bad until he did it, so why is God punishing him and his descendants? 3. If God did not want man to eat from that tree, why did God put it in the Garden of Eden, the exact place he put man?, he could have put it in Antarctica, Australia, an Island in the pacific ocean, on mars, pluto, on another solar system, on another galaxy, in another universe or even in Heaven beside him or in a vault where noone except him can open. Nope, God decides to put it exactly where he put man, does that make any sense to you? (and please dont tell me that God works in mysterious ways) |
abhosts:So somehow, Mark and bill gates are a representation of all American Atheists and Agnostics?, and because you feel someone doesnt accept your beliefs then the person is rude, proud and condescending and somehow a representation of all Nigerian Atheists? Is that hw the mentality goes? |
shadeyinka:Hi bro, Just because the universe might have an external cause doesnt mean it automatically proves God. The fact you dont know the nature of this cause is not enough to assume that the cause is a spirit humaniod being with intelligence. |
There has been no concrete evidence that suggests that our consciousness survives the death of the brain...so in other words, the afterlife or the the concept of it is like a placebo, its not real but it makes you feel good... I personally look at it this way, the human species is about 200,000years old and for about 195,000years, majority of humans lived miserable lives, many died at child birth, diseases, wild animals, starvation, e.t.c. I could have been born in any of those times but i wasnt, by mere chance i was born in a period where we have the internet, roads and cars, aeroplanes, good medicine, electricity e.t.c. I am more than lucky, i am blessed, i was born in a time i can look to the stars and wonder, a time where i know my atoms where formed in the belly of those stars, a time where i know the age of the universe. When i face troubles and hardship, i think about how lucky i am to be here at this time and those troubles become so small, so i don't care if life is finite, just because something would end doesnt mean it cant be enjoyed especially at a special time like this. |
malvisguy212:Is that what i said? Where and when does entropy works? Do you even understand what entropy is? In a open system where the earth constantly is feed energy from the sun, energy doesnt dissipates into chaos because we have constant energy pumping into the system. |
In many respect I agree with the OP, we are failing as a group of humans that share the same outward physical appearance but i do not agree that there is something wrong with the Black man, i would say there is everything wrong with his mentality. The black mentality is a disgrace to the human intellect and i for one find it an almost impossible task to believe we would ever change this mentality. Go to the libraries, you would see detailed description of many ancient figures of European and asian past, many thousands of years old. We in Africa can only boost of an accurate history that is about a century old and anything older than that is either the white man's account or archaeological evidence. We never read, wrote, think intellectually, wondered how the world worked, None of that, we just live according to what we see and what we are told. This is what needs to change, the mentality. Its a pity Young Africans are still latching on to this archaic mentality and its depressing but with globalization and the internet, i feel we could hopeful get to a generation that is as inquisitive of the world as their peers in other parts of the globe. |
malvisguy212:Its simple, Earth is not a closed system, we get constant influx of energy from the sun and thats the main driver of Life on the planet as well as Evolution. Entropy only becomes significant in a closed-system. |
KingEbukasBlog:Dude, I have said it before and will say it again, it came about slowly with changes in genetic codes that creates different types of proteins that builds up to a different pathway of chemical processes, thats how everything works in Evolution. Now the op wasnt about Evolution, the op was about INTELLIGENT DESIGN, so stop asking me questions about Evolution, you are suppose to educate us about how Intelligent Design works, the evidences of it and also its predictions... I am still waiting... |
KingEbukasBlog:Love : When you're falling in romantic love, there's a cocktail of hormones (dopamine, norepinephrine, phenyethylamine) that rushes through your brain. Brain scans shows that in this state of yours, blood flow increases in the regions where high amounts of dopamine receptors are present. Dopamine is responsible for the feeling of 'bliss' or 'euphoria'. Norepinephrine increases your heart beat and causes excitement. This cocktail elates you, causes sleeplessness and makes you focus on nothing much but your relationship. Serotonin levels get lower and you obsess about your lover. That helps you to get your pair bonding stronger. As love grows older and you have more and more sex, oxytocin is released. Oxytocin together with vasopressin helps in growing attachment, but they interfere with the previous dopamine-norepinephrine pathways and causes the initial euphoria of romantic love to fade away. The oxytocin is associated with mother-infant bonding and the let down reflex for breast feeding. It is also associated with uterine compressions during childbirth. Fear: When you have a scary stimulus, it first goes to the thalamus (this part of the brain decides where to send incoming sensory signals). The scary stimulus might be a danger or it may not be. But the thalamus doesn't take chances and send the signals both to amygdala and sensory cortex through the low road and high road respectively. The low road takes much lesser time and the amygdala immediately sends the signal to hypothalamus to initiate your Fight-or-Flight response. (Just in case the danger attacks you before the signal completes the high road). On the high road the sensory cortex interprets the signal along with other stimulus that you're having. (What the danger sounds like, looks like, or smells like). The sensory cortex sends it to hippocampus to put the interpreted data in context of your coscious memories and experiences. If it doesn't seem scary, the hippocampus forwards the analysed signal to amygdala that has fear memories. Amygdala then sends a signal to hypothalamus asking it to stop the fear response. The fear response is started by hypothalamus using both neural pathways and bloodstream. Together theses pathways releases more than 30 hormones in the bloodstream that increases, blood pressure, more blood is sent to major muscle groups, muscles are energized and tensed up, pupils dilate to allow more light, non essential functions like digestion is shut down, you become more alert and many more changes that'd help you to fight or flee better. Anger: Imaging studies have shown that in normal individuals there is increased activity in the orbitofrontal cortex (That is associated with reasoning) as well as blood flow in the amygdala (emotional center) increases. The thoughts in orbifrontal cortex tries to pacify the angry emotions in amygdala. So not every time we get irritated we get into fits of rage. The anger response has similar physical responses (with little differences in degree of amygdala–hypothalamus–periaqueductal gray circuitry activation) of like fear and a lot of the same hormones are at play elevating blood pressure, heart beat, tightening muscles and energizing them. This might cause the person to shake in anger as blood sugar level drops owing to the tremedous energy outbursts. Note: All these processes also happen in other primates and mammals exactly the same way, even the process for anger is the same for reptiles... |
KingEbukasBlog:You spend all your energy attacking evolution... What is your alternative? How did gender arise? Explain in clear terms, show how you came to this conclusions, and any evidence or experiments to support your theories! Be a real scientist... Then we can have a conversation, until then stop whining about Evolution... |
The child if real hasnt obviously been indoctrinated and asking the same logical questions most atheists on Nairaland asks...i really hope you let him grow to be of a sound and skeptical mind, free from childhood indoctrination and let him figure the world by his own reasoning and logic. |
tempem:Are you a troll or you for real? When did i say i know everything? |
