FoodPresidential Task Force Identifies Reasons Behind Hike In Food Prices by donogaga(op): 9:36pm On Feb 03, 2017
The Task Force on Food Security constituted by the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 had its inaugural meeting today.

In a statement by the spokesman of the acting President, Laolu Akande, at the meeting presided over by the Ag. President, the Task Force focused on gaining a full understanding of all factors that contribute to unduly high food prices, especially at urban markets throughout the country.

Akande pointed out that it also considered the ways and means of urgently ameliorating the situation, particularly by addressing issues of affordability and availability.

He said In particular, it identified some key staple foods and the factors that were most likely driving high food prices in some parts of the country, despite bumper harvests at many farms.

According to him, some of the factors identified in this regard include: the poor state of rural infrastructure like roads; multiple revenue collecting points on the highways; and inadequacy of distribution networks-all of which contribute, among other things to high transportation costs.

“Against this background, the Task Force felt that government could most usefully intervene by resolving such bottlenecks. It also felt it important to clarify that the assignment of the Task Force is not about government intervening directly in the market for staple foods either though purchases or price fixing.

“The Task Force will be coordinating various MDAs and working closely with the private sector to explore ways and means of overcoming some of the supply bottlenecks in the short term, while also reinforcing on-going medium and long-term solutions including improving supplies and providing better storage.

“A more technical sub-group of the Task Force is now drawing up a draft plan of action for further consideration” he said.

BusinessWhy Jason Njoku’s Co-founder Is Leaving IrokoTV by donogaga(op): 8:46am On Jan 31, 2017
Bastian Gotter, the co-founder of iROKOtv, has exited the platform after almost seven years of growing the company alongside Jason Njoku, the tech company’s CEO.

Njoku had reportedly met Gotter while they acquired knowledge at the University of Manchester. They would later become friends and go on to set up iROKOtv, which has grown into a global film distribution network.

iROKO was not only their joint investment, however, as the pair went on to invest in Hotels.ng and ToLet.com.ng.

Gotter has now left to pursue further investment in start-ups in Africa.

In this interview with Forbes’ Mfonobong Nsehe, Gotter discusses how he got business bruises and starred in a Nollywood film during his iROKO sojourn in Nigeria.

Talk to us about your tenure at iRoko – from a 2010 YouTube channel start-up to $33m VC-backed, pan-African entertainment and tech powerhouse brand.

‘iRoko was my first large personal investment – I always believed in young western educated people returning to their home country to build businesses. However, that we would go on to change the nature of the Nigerian film industry was beyond my imagination at the time. Especially after we closed on the initial investment from Tiger Global, the business got very real, very quickly, and I decided to leave BP, leave London and head for Lagos.

‘Along the way I’ve acted in a Nollywood movie, I’ve picked up a few business bruises, as well as a Nigerian accent. But let’s be honest, iRoko was a huge step out of my comfort zone as a derivatives trader stuck behind 8 screens in London. Today I leave iRoko in the knowledge that the company has a strong vision and a solid management team to execute it. iRoko’s relentless focus on riding the macro trends of high-quality local content and mobile in Africa, will drive it to become a massive consumer success and I’m proud to have been there from the start.’

PoliticsCourt Sacks Makarfi/fayose Backed Ekiti Pdp State EXCO by donogaga(op): 10:27pm On Jan 24, 2017
The Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of Ekiti state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Working Committee was yesterday sacked by a Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti.

The court ruled that Mr. Williams Ajayi
–led faction, being allegedly bankrolled Mr Buruji Kashamu remains the authentic chairman of the party in the state.

It derecognised the faction led by Barr. Gboyega Oguntuase which enjoys the backing and support of Governor Ayodele Fayose

In suit number FCH/AD/CS/21/2015 filed on May 16, 2016, Ajayi had urged the court to recognise his faction congresses conducted in all the 177 wards, 16 local governments and the state on April 30 and 4th and 5th May, 2016, respectively.

While seeking an order declaring the Oguntuase’s faction as an impostor and an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC ) to grant him and his executive recognition, the plaintiff also urged the court to pronounce him the authentic Chairman of the party.

Joined in the suit were: INEC(1st respondent), PDP(2nd respondent), Ali Modu Sheriff(3rd respondent),Prof Wale Oladipo (4th) and Gboyega
Oguntuase (5th respondent).

Delivering his judgement, Justice Taiwo Taiwo said the motion on notice pending at the appeal court over attempt by the 2,3,4 and 5th respondents to change their lawyer and appointed Chief Mike Ozekhome(SAN), as the lead counsel was not enough to delay the delivery of the judgement.

Lawyer to the respondents, Mr. Bimpe Olatemiju, had called the attention of the court to a letter dated January 19, 2017 and deposited with the Registrar of the court to the effect that the court should set aside the proceeding of December 8, 2016, when the written addresses were adopted and the need to stay action on the court’s proceeding pending the determination of the motion on notice at the appellate court filed against the October 12, 2016 ruling of the court.

The ruling was delivered against the 2,3,4,5th respondents on their request to appoint Ozekhome as their lead counsel.

Justice Taiwo said: ”Apolitical party must operate within certain guidelines and when there is a crisis of this nature in a party, we use the party’s constitution and the 1999 constitution to remedy the constitution”, citing the case of Ugwu Vs PDP to substantiate this claim.

He added further: “It is not in dispute that 2,3,4,5 respondents were jointly represented, and not in dispute that 2 and 3 are members of the PDP . It is not also in dispute that 3rd and 4th respondents were still acting as the chairman and National Secretary.

“So, going by the PDP’s guidelines, the power to conduct congresses at the wards, local governments and state levels can only be directed by NWC and since these people were still in charge at that time, any other directive or parallel congress by any other body is null and void”, Justice Taiwo ruled.

Earlier, there was a fierce exchange of words between the Judge and the respondents’ counsel over the perceived attempt to arrest the
judgement.

When the court has set for the delivery of the judgement, Olatemiju said the court can’t proceed because of the pending case at the appeal, which Justice Taiwo had objected by maintaining a position that the 1999 constitution forbids arrest of judgement and that this case would not be an exemption.

However, the judge later listened to Olatemiju’s argument and the averment of Plaintiff’s lawyer, Mr Niran Owoseeni after which he rose and came back to dismiss the argument to give way for the delivery of his judgement.

When Olatemiju sought the court’s permission to leave before the judgement was delivered, Justice Taiwo order him to sit down, threatening to report him to the Nigeria Bar Association’s Ethics and Privileges Committee should he refuse his directive.

Reacting to the jugement, Oguntuase said : “We will appeal the judgment. I plead with all the PDP members in the state to remain calm. In that judgement, I saw humour and I didn’t see honour and candour.

“How will you call yourself a Chairman when the governor is not behind you, when all the National Assembly members and state assembly lawmakers are not behind you? So, this is not the last court”, he said.

The police in Jalingo, Taraba State,  yesterday confirmed the arrest of an armed immigration personnel.

the said immigration staff was apprehended  by a local vigilance group and handed over to the police.

Mr. Misal explained that Idris, who sustained injuries during the incident, was receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo.

Christianity EtcA Different Kind Of SLAYING!!! by donogaga(op): 6:29am On Jan 20, 2017
In this day and age everyone wants to slay. If you want to check out all manners of slayers on social media just go to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter and type the hashtags #slay #slayer #slayking #slayqueen etc, your eyes will be fed with all sorts of poses. Some people will do anything just to slay these days, they will borrow, spend their last dime, live a fake life, post half naked photos or do just about anything crazy to be tagged a slayer. In other words slaying in our day and age is about how you appear on the physical. Appearance and perception is the order of the day, nobody seems to care about what's real. However CAN WE TALK ABOUT A DIFFERENT KIND OF SLAYING?

If you have ever played any combat video game, you will realise that the only way to advance to a higher level is to slay your opponents. For you to GROW UP to higher ground you must BLOW UP your opposition. I also realised that this principle applies to our lives as humans too. For you to advance from class 1 to 2 in school you must pass your exams. They often say, "for every new level theirs a new devil."

I read the story of one man who understood this principle very well, he knew for a fact, if he must step into his destiny then he had to SLAY. That man was David son of Jessy, who later became king. I believe many of us know about the story of how David slayed Goliath. David was a big time slayer, not the type of slaying we see on social media today, he slayed into his destiny. The most amazing part is that David applied every tool completely different from what our present day slayers use to slay on social media. I'll tell you how...

1. When David took up the challenge to fight into his destiny against Goliath, King Saul lent David his armory to wear so he will look like a real soldier, David wore it at first but he took it off. Why? David understood one great principle. REAL SLAYING IS NOT ABOUT YOUR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BORROW OR LIVE ABOVE YOUR MEANS TO SLAY, JUST BE YOURSELF ALWAYS.
The Bible says ...
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holdswink Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"
2 Corinthians 10:4-5

2. When Goliath saw little boy David coming to fight him with a mere catapult sling, he scorned David and tried to intimidate him and threatened to kill him and feed to the birds, but David did not brag with mere words. He bragged about the God he serves and came against Goliath in the name of the Lord. He understood another great principle. IT'S NOT BY MIGHT NOR BY POWER BUT BY THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD.
The Bible says...
“Don’t let the wise brag of their wisdom. Don’t let heroes brag of their exploits. Don’t let the rich brag of their riches. If you brag, brag of this and this only: That you understand and know me. I’m God , and I act in loyal love. I do what’s right and set things right and fair, and delight in those who do the same things. These are my trademarks."
Jeremiah 9:23‭-‬24 MSG

David slayed his way into his destiny. He didn't have to fake up his appearance, he didn't depend on his looks, he depended on the knowledge of the God he serves. This year, choose not to only slay with your sense of fashion and style, but be a giant slayer for Jesus. Be yourself, don't get desperate for attention, you don't have to expose your body to slay, you don't have to live beyond your means to slay, the people who slay to their next level are those who know their God. Choose to know God for yourself. DONT JUST BE A SOCIAL MEDIA SLAYER, BE A SLAYER FOR JESUS.

"... but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits."

Foreign AffairsObama Says Goodbye In Last Presidential Speech by donogaga(op): 8:37pm On Jan 19, 2017
Washington (AFP) - Barack Obama closes the book on his presidency Tuesday, with a farewell speech in Chicago that will try to lift supporters shaken by Donald Trump's shock election.
Obama's last trip on Air Force One is a pilgrimage to his adoptive hometown, where he will address a sell-out crowd not far from where he delivered his victory speech eight years ago.

"I first came to Chicago when I was in my early twenties, still trying to figure out who I was; still searching for a purpose to my life," Obama is expected to tell Chicagoans, according to advance excerpts of his speech.

"This is where I learned that change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged, and come together to demand it."
"After eight years as your president, I still believe that."

Diehard fans -- many African Americans -- have braved Chicago's frigid winter to collect free tickets, which now sell for upwards of $1,000 a piece on Craigslist.

Joined by First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill, Obama's trip would be a sentimental walk down memory lane, were it not slap-bang in the middle of a tumultuous presidential handover.

Trump has smashed conventions, vowed to efface Obama's legacy and hurled personal insults left and right.

The 2016 election campaign has raised serious questions about the resilience of US democracy.
In a virtually unprecedented move, US intelligence has accused the Kremlin of seeking to tip the electoral scales in Trump's favor.
Democrats, cast into the political wilderness with the loss of the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives plus a majority of statehouses, are struggling to regroup.

- 'True to him' -
With an approval rating hovering around 55 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll, Obama will hope to steel them for new battles ahead.

Some 51 percent of Americans polled believe that Trump is doing a bad job as president-elect.
Obama's lead speechwriter Cody Keenan said the address will be about a vision for where the country should go.

"It's not going to be like an anti-Trump speech, it's not going to be a red meat, rabble rousing thing, it will be statesman-like but it will also be true to him," Keenan told AFP. "It will tell a story."

As Obama put it: "Over the course of my life, I've been reminded time and again that change can happen -- that ordinary people can come together to achieve extraordinary things."

"And I've seen that truth up close over these last eight years."

- Life after White House -
Trump's unorthodox politics has thrown 55-year-old Obama's transition and post-presidency plans into flux.

Having vowed a smooth handover of power, Obama finds himself being increasingly critical of Trump as he prepares to leave office on January 20.

After that there will still be a holiday and an autobiography, but Obama could find himself being dragged backed into the political fray if Trump were to enact a Muslim registry or deport adults brought to the United States years ago by their parents.

Having vowed to take a backseat in politics, Obama's second act could yet be as politically engaged as Jimmy Carter -- whose post-presidency has remade his image as an elder statesman.

Many Obama aides who had planned to take exotic holidays or launch coffer-replenishing forays into the private sector are also reassessing their future and mulling a return to the political trenches.

Obama's foundation is already gearing up for a quasi-political role -- funneling idealistic youngsters into public life.

- Presidential precedent -
Presidents since George Washington have delivered a farewell address of sorts.
Washington's final 7,641-word message -- which is still read once a year in the Senate by tradition -- contained warnings about factionalism and interference by foreign powers that seem oddly prescient.

But speechwriter Keenan sees few obvious templates: "Bush and Clinton did theirs from here (the White House), George H.W. Bush went to West Point, gave a foreign policy speech," he told AFP. "They are all totally different."
Obama's trip to Chicago is about more than nostalgia, Keenan indicated.

"The thread that has run though his career from his days as community organizer to the Oval Office is the idea that if you get ordinary people together and get them educated, get them empowered, get them to act on something, that's when good things happen," he said.
"Chicago is not just his hometown, it's where his career started."

And now it is also where Obama's presidential career will effectively end.

Career9 Ways To Improve Safety Performance In Your Organization by donogaga(op): 8:42pm On Jan 18, 2017
1. Leadership Commitment
I have worked with many organizations and figured out that the most important element in safety is the commitment from top leadership, without leadership’s commitment, no organization can achieve the level of safety they desire for. It gives employees a sense of responsibility when they see their leader preaching and practicing safety in every aspect of business.
In any organization, it is always the leadership who drives the cultural change by inspiring and influencing other employees with their actions and
Felt Leadership . Many leaders show their commitment but gets in conflict when rest of the employees see their actions and words are not aligned, in simple words, they do not walk the talk.

2. Understand your employee’s Mindset & Behavior.
Many organizations have safety improvement initiatives in place that helps them monitor their employee’s safe and unsafe acts; one way is to develop a behavior-based safety program. All these improvement initiatives will just turn useless if you don’t understand what is going on behind the brains of your employees,
why people do what they do? What drives their actions? What are their values, beliefs, and attitude? The answer to these questions lies in cognitive human psychology. The approach towards improving safety nowadays has stepped beyond behavior-based safety, organizations now conduct Values, Attitudes and Beliefs (VAB) study to understand their employees better and work it around. Each individual has his/her on values and beliefs, once you understand them; it will be much easier for you to connect with your employees. (Learned from DuPont)

3. Make your employees accountable for Safety.
Safety is not just leadership’s responsibility, it is everyone’s responsibility. Employees at all levels should understand their role in safety and participate in safety improvement initiatives. Leadership should hold employees accountable for non-performance or engaging in unsafe acts.
All employees must understand that the ultimate goal of implementing safety rules is to save lives, and at the end of the day it is beneficial to them, no one else. I have never in my career seen a person who tells me, tonight, I want to go home with a broken arm, which means people do understand that safety is good for their health but still needs someone to re-enforce rules.

4. Understand, analyze and eliminate risks involved in the process, technology and facility.
Many leaders ask me this question; our employees have the real sense of personal safety, why do they still get hurt? Well, if you’re employees are well-committed to personal safety but still getting hurt, than there must be something wrong with the process, technology, or the facility they operate in.
This is one area that can be addressed by a well-balanced Process Safety Management program. Many organizations just perform a HAZOP of PHA study and feels they have completed their compliance obligation. Process Safety is much broader than just HAZOP or PHA. It contains 14-elements that help organizations completely eliminate hazards from any operations, such as; PSSR, Mechanical Integrity, Incident Investigation, Emergency Response and Planning, Management of Change etc.

5. Too many improvement initiatives? Integrate them.
If you’re an organization with too many improvement initiatives, you might find your employees telling each other, I have too much on my plate and can’t focus at my ultimate role.
When an organization adopts different programs from different consulting firms, it sometimes creates confusion too, because all these programs carry different approaches towards safety. To align your approach with your vision, you need to integrate these approaches and develop one integrated system that allows employees to speak one language. All you need is one safety system that is aligned with organization's vision.

6. Have a well-trained incident investigation team.
I have seen many incident investigation reports, in many cases; the findings or root cause is way too far from the reality. Safety personnel need to understand the importance of the real and accurate findings, because these findings will eventually help the organization solve the real problem. Moreover, an incomplete or inaccurate report can lead us to a direction that has nothing to do with reality, and eventually waste of time.
In many cases, we perform the why-tree analysis , blame the employee and close the case. In my experience, if we dig a bit more, we will find the real problem. For example, an employee was rushing to finish his job before the end of the shift and got himself hurt on the machine. The team investigated and blamed the employee for the incident; however, no one noticed why was he actually rushing? Whereas his supervisor has given him a heavy production goal to achieve before the end of his shift and he was trying to achieve that goal. So, what was the root cause here?

7. Make use of technology; get a Safety Management System in place.
If an organization in today’s technological world tells me that they still use those old school Microsoft Excel data sheets to monitor and track their progress on safety, my advice to them will be to get a Safety Management System, it’s worth spending some cash for the value it provides. Your time worth millions that can be spent on other important activities rather entering data manually into excel sheets.
A Safety Management System can make your life easier in many ways, it helps you automate the whole process, all your safety policies and programs gets into one integrated system, your employees know where exactly they can find information they need, your leaders know what reports they need to look into, it helps you track progress in a timely manner and you don’t need to run over half a million files in your computer to look for one policy. It’s all there, just one click away.

8. Recognize and reward employees for their contribution to safety.
Ever wonder what a motivated employee can contribute to your organization? Recognizing and rewarding your employees is another key area that can lead to success. Many organizations turn strict on their employees for unsafe activities; some even get to the extent where they fire them. This will only create fear among them, and they will only follow rules because they are asked to, not because they want to. This is what distinguishes compliance from commitment.
What I have seen in organization with world-class safety culture is different, they motivate and reward their employees with safe behavior in such a way that inspire others and eventually change their behavior towards safety too. Many times, companies reward their employees with cash, but this has a negatives impact too. Too much of cash rewards can encourage employees to hide the real facts because they want to win cash.

9. Train your employees regularly on safety.
Even your best people need a refresher after some time to keep them on track. The best way people learn in any organization is through its culture, but again, your employees at some point will turn complacent at their job and complacency is the most dangerous form of hazard. Refresher training can teach them some new techniques on how to be safe at work, plus it will remind them of their role in safety.

At the end of the day, safety is all about care, saving lives, families, and the society we operate in.

SportsGriezmann Apparently Agrees Wages&shirt Number Ahead Of Potential Man Utd Move by donogaga(op): 7:01pm On Jan 18, 2017
Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann is understood to have verbally agreed both his shirt number and weekly wages with Manchester United, according to reports in the Independent.

The Frenchman has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and it is widely expected that he will complete what could be a world record transfer to United in the summer.

Griezmann is understood to be keen on completing the move to Manchester and is also excited about the prospect of linking up with fellow compatriot Paul Pogba, who himself signed for the Red Devils last summer for a world record £89m.

The independent report that the talks between the player's representatives and United have been ongoing for some time and that part of an agreement has already been made verbally, with Griezmann's shirt number and wages already decided.

Talk of such an agreement has seen some bookies refuse to offer odds on the move, but whilst a deal in the future seems increasingly likely, one possible complication may be the situation at the French international's current club, who are currently fighting a transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA.

The one-year transfer embargo means that Atletico are unable to sign any new players next summer and should they lose their appeal against the ban, Griezmann's move to Old Trafford could be placed in serious jeopardy as the Spanish club would be unwilling to lose such a valuable player without the prospect of replacing him.

Despite the uncertainty, the La Liga side are rumoured to be keeping a close eye on Diego Costa's situation at Chelsea and should they have their transfer ban lifted, Griezmann's departure would likely see them prioritise resigning the unsettled striker.

InvestmentThe Latest Information To All MMM Participants In Nigeria. by donogaga(op): 2:30pm On Jan 17, 2017
When Mavrodi Mondial Movement (MMM) came to Nigeria in 2016, many believed that an end has come to our sufferings as a nation!!! Some participants who didn’t know its full meaning called it “Money Making Machine” without thinking that one day, the machine will break down and start printing fake notes & frozen mavros!!! Some even claimed that the All Promises Compromised (APC) government brought MMM to help Nigerians.

Words like mavro(MMM money), POP(Proof Of Payment), PO(Personal Offfice),PH (Provide Help), GH (Get Help), etc, became so popular on the streets that at a point in time, I was almost tempted to PH “eba” so I could GH “egusi soup” Nigerians, registered with the aim of receiving 30% interest after one month. Nobody asked where MMM gets the 30% from. Collectively, we were interested in getting “free money” forgetting that whenever your pastor prophesize “miracle money” into your life, you must pay your “tithe” before you can qualify as a “runner-up” for such a divine encounter!

The scheme was going on well, then suddenly, on the 12th day in the month of December 2016, mavrodians (MMM participants) got a shocker; they couldn’t neither PH nor GH!!! It was as if rapture had taken place. There was a nation-wide panic…..everyone was calling on the God of Shiloh believing that their “cases were different” but to no avail. Come to think of it, when you were PHing, did you consult the God of Shiloh; so why disturb HIM now when you cannot GH?

The prophets of MMM (guilders) prophesized that January 14th, PHing & GHing activities will resume. What mavrodians failed to realize was that “matching activity” was not part of the prophecy. Right now, all MMM participants are like the disciples of Jesus Christ who were patiently waiting in the upper room to be matched with the Holy Spirit!
