josiangems:Webhosting isn't about running servers with zero problems. Its about having the technical know-how to run servers with zero fatal problems. A webhosting firm should have redundancy and shouldn't build its architecture on a single point of failure. Looking at the domain smartwebng.com, it is being pointed to nameservers of the same subnet (the same server) and that's a single point of failure. If that server goes down, there is no alternate DNS route. A webhosting firm that doesn't have DNS clustering as part of its disaster preparedness is not serious. It beats my comprehension how (Linux) servers can be mismanaged by humans to cause huge downtimes. Its Linux, not Windows . . . d'uh! Linux won't tell you there's no keyboard present and ask you to PRESS F1 to continue. You call Hostgator like Hostgator is a standard, not in my books. They are as terrible. |
Keep updating your first post on this thread with a list of the sites done. Not everyone will go through these pages every time to them up from your posts. |
My brothers make una no vex, this Nigerian identity has showed me much pepper in international scenes and I know you too must have been victims of the same. Because of the kinda businesses I run I face all kinds of rubbish for being a Nigerian. Check whois on 2 of my major online investments (trudigits.com and sisvps.com) and see where dem dey point. There is no kinda Government issued document I havn't given to all kinds of authorities, agencies, payment gateways, datacenters e.t.c to show I am clean. Watch some dudes almost grill me here for being a Nigerian VPS provider: http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/sisvps-5-256mb-openvz-vps-in-germany/#comments Thanks to the guy sha, my defense was able to fetch some 45 vps customers in 2 weeks, from there. In most places outside Africa the word "Nigerian" can be used interchangeably with "Scammer" and the point will still be understood. Those madmen don't know that Nigeria is just known for a high quantity of scam not quality. US and UK pull very quality scams but because na once in a while dem dey catch dem so its played low. What do we know as per scam? Formats, westernunion, email bombing. . . that's crap. You may be following the phone cracking scandal that is sweeping the entire pacific now. . . now that's scam, call it scandal if you may. As for hope, I really dunno. This problem isnt originating from one branch of the tree that cutting that branch off will solve. We both know where e start from. |
udezekene:Sorry, as of this moment I don't want any of my online investments (intended for the international online audience) tied to a country like Nigeria. Trash that "proudly Nigerian" logo you see on sites, there's nothing to be proud of. - MY VIEWS - |
Well let me start asking the questions. What script is this and what exactly do you want? Can you post the code here? <<this isn't really a question. its a statement with question mark. . . well questatement. |
<div id="top_ad"></div> <div id="iframe">iframe here</div> <div id="right_ad"></div> <div id="footer_ad"></div> float the iframe and the right add divs left and give them a combined width of your container width. I have always hated iframes sha, especially the ones with scrollbars. |
Yes we could but I do not know where you are coming from. . . from a client's perspective or from a fellow developer's perspective. You can mail me details: sawyerrken at gmail dot com. My present work load (if no new jobs are accepted) should take me about 3-4 weeks to clear. |
c'est softaculous |
This question looks like an excerpt of your thoughts and you somehow expected we were with you in those thoughts and should know the context in which this question is raised. ![]() |
I support the idea of creating an entirely new layout. . . .like the first link. |
Nice domain. Site could use some arrangement. You can get a few ideas from the following sites which use the same script you are using. http://www.horeca.clipdir.com/ http://renovationmalaysia.com/ |
barbara83:I am talking from a general point of view not as a freelancer needing deals. In my experience (Nigerian) clients never know what they want exactly and how to pay for it (when they've been helped to figure out what they want). http://clientsfromhell.net/ As for the cost of freelancing, its never fixed and it depends on the job. You should be ready to pay a freelance by the hour or per project and for the latter you should be talking in $x,Bleep to $Bleep,Bleep as budget. You should be ready to pay a freelancer not just for the job but for time spent on physical meetings in prep for a project (physical meetings are almost always a waste of time and could in almost all cases have been handled via email or phone). The good ones don't come in cheap flavors. |
I don't understand how the second scenario is a problem. Solution though is good coding practice, keep you clients engaged (make new releases of your application), get a good host, continue self development and let your jobs and your clients speak for you. |
Nice one bro. Nice domain too . How that wasn't taken over the years, beats me.Once you have solidified the framework, we can start making templates ![]()
i dont want to crash someone's server.
LoL. It can stand 10 million users on mobinga's ntwyt.com so this shouldnt be a problem. ![]() |
Is there any project plan or business logic behind this or it was done just cuz there was a facebook clone script available? My point (assuming I was an active social network user): Why will I leave Facebook that is well established worldwide for a clone that isn't established? What is the catch? Certainly isn't localization because Facebook is fully localised. Do the owners of Myfacepalls have what it take to extend this script to keep up with their model, Facebook? In my opinion the only thing nice about this venture is the domain name, what the domain is housing. . . doesn't make much sense to me. Looks like "9ja" social network sites come out every week now, you guys may want to meet up and combine your heads to come up with something unique. Honest review, no disrespect. ![]() |
How does the grin answer the single most important question I have asked on a forum today? Meanwhile, hows your sister. . . she still single and in the hood? |
Mo, who's the babe? ![]() |
Awesome .Got your msg to review but I've been busy. I checked it up but couldn't get a hang around things cuz I havnt had the time to get a hang around twitter itself .Nice work. |
Slow down with the questions. ![]() First deal with this question: Are you ready to pay for the services of a freelance programmer? |
LoL, the TruDigits matter. . . long story. 3 years and counting and no downtimes, not even planned. I admin all the servers and now have more of US, UK, france, germany and portugal on my clientbase so my tech support has to be wicked because they know I am Nigerian and some clients are just walking time bombs ready to explode if any server goes down. Nigerian clients don't have wahala at all if its for hosting. Yankee clients will ping death out of my servers to ensure the latency is as good as it was when they first signed up. All Nigerians are concerned about is their site's coming up. . . the yankee dude is concerned about a lot more. As you may notice, prices on my sites are now in dollars (trudigits.com and sisvps.com). I don't really have the Nigerian audience as a target to please anymore, I have cleared all there is to be cleared with regards to the hosting standards of an average Nigerian. Aiming to put sisvps.com as a "Nigerian thing that works internationally". It will boost our records, brother. . . by "our" I mean you and I as Nigerians. Make we try clean some of the international mess wey nairahost and co put us inside.I have to say though, all this is possible because I colocated my servers in the best datacenter in Europe who have treated me with equal rights despite coming from a red alert country. Thanks to slyrox too who just loves to do the annoying thing of rattling my server knobs. His actions just make me take up tighter security policies and it keeps getting tighter .Bottomline: whether you choose syskay or trudigits, just get the best out of your hosting ![]() |
Nothing feels better than a female teaching you how to type. Damn! ![]() |
At development every developer should use what fits his style. But I am talking of its ban at the learning stage. One has to cross this stage before getting to the development stage. Learning webdesign with these "tools" is as lame as using a vehicle with Automatic Transmission in a driving school. |
Frontpage, Dreamweaver and the others should be banned from any learning curriculum. |
mashnino:Sadly you have your domain registered with the same host so it may be a problem getting it outta their hands. If you are to change host the best thing you can do for now is have them change your nameservers to point to your new host. Note that you cannot transfer a domain to another registrar withing 60 days of its registration, ICANN policy. This is NOT an issue of a firewall blocking Nigerian IPs, that box is dead globally. I have pinged it from several locations. Its dead. You cannot have your site's transferred to any other host until that server comes up. You can only have your sites hosted somewhere else and that means loosing all data to start afresh. |
farouqzaib:There is a security risk in this approach. Remote file inclusion. If this must be used you should put your controllers in switch-cases. |
Machino I have seen your reply although it was grabbed by the antispam bot. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?action=profile;u=669480;sa=showPosts Its not a firewall thing then, your domain is globally dead. Quite a shame. |
Its possible your IP may have been blocked by their firewall (if they have one). Check your domain here www.testsitefor.me and let me know what you get. I don't think you should expect great support from a host firm with so much bad reviews. You got what you paid for, no pity. As for smartwebng, if you guys are having a hard time getting out of the mud. . . you may file for an acquisition rather than cause more people pain. |
With due respect, your seminar lacks the technical knowledge to take up this course. Please stop breeding these kinda designers that will develop sites like yours or worse. Really sorry if this looks like I am killing your business but in the long run I am protecting the industry. Please do not hold this seminar. We should not do all sorts of junk in the name of FREE. We are not beggars so do not treat us like we have no choice when things are given to us FREE of charge. I am serious, do not hold this seminar. I am not interested now in what you want to tell me about the quality of the instructors because that's just bull, no sane instructor will let you publicize your site in an advert for a web design seminar. Seriously you will just end up producing more crappy designers like most Nigerian Universities produce hundreds of crappy Computer Science students yearly. For those who came here with the hope of learning webdesign, just so you don't think I have dashed your hopes you can go to www.w3schools.com and learn. It certainly will take more than 2 days though. |
