^^^The fact that I am typing this powered by PHCN who have been giving us consistent power for the past month is enough proof for you. cant remember when last I used a gen. I am hoping my gen will not rust soon. The guys at the filling station near my house are not happy at all as business has been bad. Before now and since January, is has been hell. Sometimes, no light for 4,5 days. I've called up my friends in various parts of Lagos and they all say the same thing. That is down the result of the effort the power minister has put in in so short a time he has been there. He booted out the CE of the Olorunshogo power plant about 3 weeks ago for incompetence and the plant has since started working appreciably again thereby adding more power to the Lagos supply. This in so short a time. w era not there yet but we pray they will sustain it and grow it. The president has reiterated his resolve to finish the privatization process. The companies have already bid and the process is on. So lets wait and see and enjoy good power supply meanwhile.

Thats the beauty of democracy. Choices. Most of us took a chance when we voted GEJ. We didnt vote him because we thought he was perfect. We considered many factors and made a "business" decision. In life you have to make decisions and take risks. Thats what many of us did. We considered people like Buhari and felt we could not live with those. He is trouble and is too sectarian and acts before he thinks. I dont have to write more reasons here. We also considered people like Ribadu and concluded that he was not ripe. Nigerians dont like wild cards. I personally like Ribadu but he looks a like wild card and a light weight. Jonathan to most people, represents calmness, focus and a sense of a new Nigeria. It isnt that we are hundred percent certain, but that is life for you, you consider the odds and make a decision. He has shown a lot of signs that we may be very right even in the midst of the fiercest distractions and dangers, he remains calm and foccused. That is what some interpret as inaction. Have you ever heard the saying that "empty vessels make the loudest noise"? If he fails, we will gladly turn against him. No politician is 100% perfect. I have 1001 genuine things I can critizize Fashola about. In fact, the solar street lights in My area was a big fraud. The lights only worked for a few weeks and went bad. Even when they worked they wer worse than candle light. That is millions gone down the drain. But there are also other stuff he has gotten right. It is only when the bad becomes too much that we can then go head long with him and batter him.

Make no mistake. Unlike what some of you say on NL, most Nigerians dont see GEJ as part of the old brigade. He actually represents the new and everything he has done and the way he has comported himself suggest that. Many of you think he should just go out and start to fight with the old leaders of Nigeria to show that he is really a new breed. That will be foolish and will be  a distraction. He should just build a new Nigeria. I liked it when he said yesterday that Nigerians are actually hard working and that if they get 24 hours light, they will generate money and grow the economy. Most people were suprised he could think that way. It shows he has been there and knows where the shoe pinches.

Do you know what it means to be petty? Thats what you are right now, petty. Discussing if it was recorded or live is very petty and childish in the midst of more serious issues like the issues the president raised. I is so disgraceful that you did not even spend any effort to try to analyse the presidents talk if they are good enough but you are willing to discuss beer pallour topics like, was it recorded or live?. You really have a small mind.

^^^Spot on bro! Actually NL is filled with hypocritical politicians and political affiliates who claim they are the masses. They are not the masses as they have enough money to pay for full monthly internet connection and run generators continuously. That is why they can hang in here and insult the president. They are not hungry or suffering. They are actually interested parties in this whole political fight.

Word!

Nothing but admiration for those words of yours.

Like hey dont know the meaning of planning and how it translates into taking action, too tired to type now but men, i have to hand it some peeps on NL, simply intelligent!
How intelligent is a man who does not understand that planing is part of taken action? The past governments didnt plan. Planning is part of the action. A project consists of planning-design-implementation-review-maintenance. Stop saying they are only planning and not taking action. That is a wrong statement as planning in part of taken action

Enough of the chitchat gentlemen, lets stay with the facts.
Please learn from presidents elsewhere who CLEARLY DIDNT PLAN if we are to believe you.

Theodore roosevelt 100 days:

[li]A national bank holiday: The day after his inauguration, FDR declared a "bank holiday," closing all banks in the country to prevent a collapse of the banking system. [li]Ending the gold standard: To avoid deflation, FDR quickly suspended the gold standard.
[/li]
[li]Glass-Steagall Act: The Glass-Steagall Act imposed regulations on the banking industry that guided it for over fifty years, until it was repealed in 1999.
[/li]
[li]FDIC: The Federal Deposit Insurance Commission backed all bank deposits up to $2500, meaning that most bank customers no longer had to worry that a bank failure would wipe out their life savings
[/li]
[li]Federal Securities Act: This act regulated the stock markets and preceded the creation of the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1934, which continues to regulate U.S. stock markets to this day.
[/li]
[li]Agricultural Adjustment Act to provide relief to farmers by paying them to reduce production; this also helped to reduce crop surpluses and increase prices for crops

[li]Civilian Conservation Corps To reduce unemployment, put 250,000 young men to work in rural conservation projects, mostly in national parks and forests

[li]Tennessee Valley Authority to provide electrification and other basic improvements the impoverished interior of the South.

1. Again ignorant posts like these take us no where. First you are comparing apples and oranges. How on earth can you compare Rosevelt to Goodluck. Maybe you took it off the clueless guy talking in AIT. Rosevelt was presiding over a country that was not only in a full blown recession/meltdown but also at a time when financial institutions where not as sohphisticated as you have now not the sophisticated modern country structures you have today. Do you know what will be the effect of closing down the banks in 2011. This is not 1933 my friend. What was the population of America in 1933. Completely clueless comparisons. You cant make such declarations in a modern society except you have to first declare a state of emergency in the country.

2. Obama? Obama my foot. Are you refering to the guy that has literarily taken the US to the cleaners? Please can you try another example? Obama as an example is a very terrible one. The guy has no clue of economics and is well on his way to becoming one of the worst American presidents. And the examples of laws you even listed Obama passed was funny. Many of these laws have been going thru the house for years. Just like the minimum wage, electoral act, FOI and many other bills that have been passed in GEJ's time. So why didnt you also list the ones passed during GEJ time or would it make your points look silly?. It is sad that many of you cannot give balanced and fair contributions. That is why the whole country is in a mess

2. You even went on to list that he Ordered the closing of Guantanamo Bay military detention facility and abolishing "enhanced interrogation techniques." A move that has not been implemented going into his final year in office because it was a f00lish one just like many other things you listed. He still has not been able to withdraw American troops from Afghan and Iraq with all his campaign bragging. He is even participating in news wars. Please stop using Obama to compare anyone. He is inept.

3. If those are what you categorize as 100 days achievements, Jonathans own will fill the screen and over:

FOI bill
18, 000 Minimum wage
Electoral Act
Constitutional Review
Pensions Act
Banking Reforms
Commissioning of new power stations
Commencement of new rail project
Launch of 2 new Nigerian satellites for ICT, flood and disaster control and other uses
Abolition of fuel scarcity nationwide
Full implementation of Niger Delta amnesty program
Launch of new country agricultural scheme
Creation of new universities
ICPC finally taking Tinubu to trial for corruption - lol

since u didnt watch the broadcast, i will wait for those who watch is to corroborate it. however, earlier on this thread someone had already spotted it out. Kindly check.
We all watched the broadcast and he didnt do what you have posted. He didnt give any one line answer to any question. It is sad that you are willing to post falsehood out of your bad belle for this man. All his answers where elaborate. The grammer didnt matter as some here have tried to point out to us. We understood him. If you want grammer, go and watch Senator Obaigbona on Youtube. The president gave the most elaborate explanation of the various ministries in Nigeria I have ever heard from a Nigerian President and I was amazed at his knowledge of Oil, Agric, Rail and Power sectors. He even gave minute details that many have never heard before. His ability to bring everthing together was phenomena. I have watched Fashola on TV discussing issues several times and the only thing I think Fashola surpassed the president in is his English. The president showed far more knowledge of the workings of the system than Fashola has ever shown. So dont come here posting bullcrap. we didnt vote for a grammarian but for a revolutionary leader. Let him be and allow him give us his best. Whether it was live or recorded was completely irrelivant. That is actually a very petty thing to talk about and only shows how petty and bereft of news sites like saharareporters are.
PoliticsRe: Seriously Can Nigeria Be Developed In 18 Months? by edicolove: 2:45am On Sep 13, 2011
^^^First as an intelligent person which I like to assume you are, can you give a reasonable planning and assessment period for a major project like say a power plant or an agricultural project or a major road? and then contrast that against the duration the president and especially the minsters have come on duty? please be very very truthful so we know how realistic you are.

Secondly, how can you say improvement in Lagos power supply is down to Fashola? are you that partisan that you have become delusional? Does Lagos now have a commissioned power plant? so where is Fashola providing the power from? or how is Fashola providing the power? The only state that currently has a privately commissioned power plant is rivers and akwa ibom in near the commisioning stage. evry other state that is interested are still planning and designing and have just had the necessary approval from the FG just recently. The FG is even planning to enact enabling laws so the states can function as full private partners in the power project.

what proof do you have that something is being done. have you been visiting the ministries and supervising them to know they are doing something? I have empirical evidence to support my claim, That evidence is Nigeria's track record, What makes you think this time is going to be much different.
Plenty of proof and signs bro. I have been following the president and ministers who have been holding intense meetings over the last 2 months. Almost all the minsters have been making unprecedented visits to various sites in their ministries. one such visit led the minster of power to find out and change the non performing CE of the Olorunshogo power plant and the restoration of some of the plants functionality which has led to the addition of more power to the Lagos axis. Of course I know you dont follow these intense progress because you are a cynic and pessimist who only gets satisfaction in criticizing.

Any laws passed recently?, (silence)

Any sacred cows put to the sword?, (even more silence).

Any major pending projects commissioned and completed ?, (the silence is getting irritating).

Any new major forward-looking policy changes in sports, (sound of the breeze)

In power, (still silence)

In mining, (silence).

Main output: Plans, communiques, retreats, strategy sessions, intentions, goals, aims, reasons, motives, anything but action.
ShipIt:
Enough said, But just to add: 18 months is enough to start seeing changes but what positive changes have you noticed? Let me highlight a few negative ones
Security is getting worse

Power is being "sabotaged"

Foreign reserves are dropping

Domestic investigations are bring carried out by FOreign agencies

President needs Israeli bodyguards, not even Nigerian

The constitution was recently breached ( salami)

I can just go on like this for days bug what's the point.
The only magic in question is how GEJ is going to turn things around within the next four years,

Posts like these really makes me sad. so you want them to send you a text message daily showing you their daily activities or what? Like the president said in the interview that some people are asking for what the SSS and others are doing. how can the SSS post their briefs of terrorist intelligence gathering to the public? Ignorance they say is a disease.

And the slowpoke ended with the bolded statement and called meetings and plannings and all other stuff inaction. The guy just showed he either hasnt worked in a coporate environment or i probably a gateman or receptionist at best. The first action in any project is the planning and design. You dont jump on the road and start to do stuff. The planning stage is normally like 40 to 60 percent, depending on the type of project.

They tell you their plans and you say there is too much talk, no action. they dont say anything but are doing their job and you say they are silent. cynics are the worst kind of people in any society and they never contribute, they only criticize

^^^You are one of those in NL that make Nigerians look foolish. Even if you bring in magicians, no country can develope in 4 years not to talk of eighteen months

So how long does a court process take even in the US. So how can you stamp out corruption in 18 months?
So how long does it take to plant a crop and harvest it that you can transform the agricultural landscape of a country of 150million in 18 months?
do you know how long it takes to setup a 50mega watt power plant even with all your money ready?
Or maybe you think we are in a military state where you can just go around shooting people or throwing people in jail?

Even if you are not intelligent please do try to sound like you are.

18 months was enough for Fashola and Chime to start making a visible impact in their repective States.

Anything is possible if the will is there.
I live in Lagos, Fashola did nothing visible in 18months. except you want to lie to yourself. Even the street lights that they hurriedly put in place to make him look good are bad now. they had to replace the lights in allen and many parts of VI. The whole solar street lights they installed was a big fraud. they are not working anymore. Most of the things Fashola points to took effect around 2 and half years after he took over. even BRT WHICH WAS ACTUALLY PLANNED DURING TINUBU'S TERM. Fashola was also aided by the fact he served under Tinubu and had planned some of the projects then. And also, you cannot compare the state of Lagos to that of Nigeria.

The GEJ votes from the SW were mostly non indigene votes. At the polling station were I voted, the ACN agent kept repeating that they were not really interested in the presidential elections and we should come for the governorship and see. He was very right. All the SW folks turned out for the governorship elections. Yoruba folks make up less than 40% of Lagos state.
