DarkRebel101:
No one is willing to farm. It's been long touted as the ultimate economic panacea, yet no one's willing to take the talk out of the bullpen.

How can it go beyond mere words when anything short of a white-collar job is given the stamp of irreverence? When parents would show the rough edge of the pineapple to their kids should they decide to study Agriculture in the university, because according to them: it is a course for the unintelligent.

The collective mindset of the populace needs to be righted first. Otherwise, we'd talk from now until the second coming of Christ and nothing would be done.
Necessity should overcome any misplaced pride. The question of whether to farm or not only arises if the luxury of choice exists.

Common sense should propel anyone with dependents at death's door / looking starvation in the face to pick up their hoes and cutlasses and start digging.

FamilyRe: Thinking Of Moving To Lagos And Have Questions. Can Any Of You Advise? by EfemenaXY:
Jujusmom:
I'm here in the states and my BF is from Lagos but in Kaduna right now. We've been engaged for 2 years and have struggled to figure out where we should settle once married. I have 4 daughter's and he has no children and never married. I believe here in the states we will struggle until he finds work (aviation field) if he can even get sponsored to gain employment.
I have my own earnings, and it's for life, plus I work. Without my job, my earnings equal a little over 1 mill naira per month.
He believes with his earnings and my earnings we will do financially better and won't have to struggle if I moved to Lagos.
This is a huge move and with children even bigger. I understand a huge adjustment, but my biggest fear is whether this will be enough money and give us an opportunity to save in case of emergencies. He's saying we can find a plot and build a home. Pay rent for a year while home is being built.
Will this be enough? Can I afford to finally be able to stay home with the kid's? Will this be enough for school fee's and all the necessities to be comfortable and secure?
A lot of my Nigerian friend's say it's plenty. To give myself an allowance monthly and stick to it, so the rest can be used to build our house and put away.
Just wondering if you folks can give me a better idea.
Thanks!!
First things first dear.

Has your boyfriend / fiancé got his papers?

Please am begging you to help your man. I will add interest of 5k when i return it next month on the 15th. I don't want to enter next week without paying my rent please.
No one is going to lend you money (on your say-so) without guarantee of you paying it back. Since you're so sure of your ability to payback, go to a reliable lender and pawn your laptop in exchange for the money you wish to borrow.

Sign an agreement confirming your date of repayment and interest you'll pay, in return for your laptop.

You carry on as normal.

This happened pre your relationship with her, not post. But why are you so concerned with the past?

@op simple copy and paste you no sabi.

Anyway, no need for long stories. Reason no.1 is more than enough as it clearly shows the woman (if his claims are true), is paranoid. Living with a paranoid spouse is akin to being in prison. You feel your life slowly being choked out of you as you're constantly under the radar, having to explain the reason(s) behind every action(s) you take.

That isn't love. It's obsession bordering on schizophrenia. They're better off apart especially as there aren't any kids involved.

It can be hurtful if you feel you're being left out, but this is where a little bit of tact wouldn't have gone amiss.

I also get where your mum was coming from. She meant no harm but your wife misunderstood her.

Take a look at the pictures below. These pictures send a powerful message to the whole world. Do they also mean the missing key family members are insignificant? Of course not.

FamilyRe: Is It Selfish Not To Adopt If You Have Been Unable To Conceive? by EfemenaXY: 2:32pm On Dec 09, 2016
Loisemm:
Its not selfish. People shouldn't even adopt solely because they have not been able to conceive. What happens when and if the couple eventually get a biological child?! This is when some adopted kids would now start getting maltreated.

This was exactly the fear of one little girl who was adopted by a high class rich woman. This girl spiritually prevented her adoptive mother from going on to have biological children. The woman tried and tried for several years.
Eventually, her church organised a program for fruitfulness. Her pastor told her in the program to go and bring her adopted daughter for prayers. She went home and tried to do so. But to no avail. She didn't even tell the girl they were going to church. You know how kids can be persuaded na. 'Come let's go and buy ice cream' Come let's go to Mr Biggs'
All these didn't work. At last, the woman even tried to physically carry the girl into the car. For where...

She went back n told her pastor. He returned to her house with her. On sighting the pastor, her daughter wanted to run out through the back door. She was caught. The girl confessed that she didn't want the mother to have biological children because she will stop loving and pampering her. (Which happens for most ).
She was ordered to release the woman. She refused. The pastor declared that if she refuses, then she will have to go back to where she was brought from.

The very next month, I kid you not, this woman conceived. Its the very same pastor that told us this incident. He also waited on God for 9 years! When people pestered him to adopt seeing he had money, he will remember what happened to this woman and he chose not to. He has children now.
Some adoptions of course are good and clean. So do what suits you and how ur spirit leads.
Poppycock!

No wonder backwardness will remain with many Nigerians.

Come over to the west and narrate that story if you can. Do you know how this sounds??

Bet lagosians wicked sha. grin

Fine girl fall inside gutter she no even see anybody help her get up or help clean her up talkless of look her side
grin

Meanwhile she still get the energy to tell person make them snap am grin

E be like say that gutter no smell or she no dey smell herself grin

Anyway even if I was around that scene I will just walk past her wouldn't even help her not even with pure water to clean up because common sense should have told her that typical Lagos roads are rough just like any street in Nigeria. Filled with rubbish, stones holes and dirty water. The least you can do is find a comfortable slippers to wear and when you're almost at your destination you can wear the heels

She no even fear okada that drive anyhow and just spring out from nowhere with blazing horns and aggressive speed
Na wa for you oh, Sambarry.

You say Lagosians are wicked for not offering to help, yet you admit if you were there, you wouldn't offer her any help either.

Pots 'n kettles sis.

Let her go. Irrespective of whatever, the marriage will NEVER work. It's the benins we're talking about here. Thay lady will be miserable if she goes ahead. I would run if I was in her shoes.
What's wrong with marrying the Benins?

Thanks again! Firstly, I will be worried about the ex-convict tag and will like to know the actual crime and all details. But if it is Nigerian concept, I will not mind as long as my sister is happy. We know that you can become a convict for anything in this country, if we all are not already. Secondly, am very sure about the kid, because I was made aware by one of her respected Uncle. She didn't know that I am aware. Thirdly, the marriages were not legally constructed according to traditions and laws of the land. You know those cohabit matter. Fourth, I was the second reason, she left the second time. I advise her to because the man was abusive and injuring her at any slight quarrel. am not judging, he smokes all kind of cigars, drinks and womanize. I got to know her from the hospital after she came for treatments. So that is the story! I told my parents everything because I learnt from experience that marriage does not only involve the 2 individuals but the whole families. I need their guidance and support. I tell them everything about me and always got them with me (either positive or negative). I will go to them for their insight, wisdom and support always. I have learnt to say the issue as it is to them because at the time, I may not like or accept their decisions but it saves life most times. I will not withhold information from them that is important for easy victory when later it may or not come hunting and hurting with all its consequences.
I will have to breakup and continue with my life. I believe this marriage thing is not for everyone apart from catholic priests and nuns (that made their decisions). Such a life! Thanks again.
swisswire:
thanks for your advice but u forget that marriage is an issue of a much higher act that needs caution because it is for eternity. I will not try to explain why giving my parents the full gist because one day, it will be known. better now than that time, because it will be a family problem. I didn't expect my parents to react in the way, they did! I know they are right but still confused to accept. their reasons are cultural, traditional and morally based!
more importantly, we are just recovering from another shocking experience (story for another day) involving marriage, and also last male child among 3 women. I don't blame them!
i know what to do but just looking for different opinion on this issue.
No need for long story my brother.

Better ask your patients to pick a wife for you.

Arranged marriages still happen.

FamilyRe: Need Advice by EfemenaXY:
Not too long ago, we had a thread here in this section about a lady who forestalled telling her man about her past (marriage) until eleven months into the relationship.

What happened next? The man quickly dropped her like a hot piece of coal citing she was "deceptive not to have bared it all sooner". The reaction from most males on that thread was that her secrecy was her undoing.

Now we've got a similar scenario, difference being the lady here opened up from the beginning. And how does @op handle the truth? He runs off to mummy and daddy shooting off his mouth, knowing fully well they'll be against the union.

Now he comes on here creating a thread seeking "advice".

Sigh. Boys trying to act like men.

@op: word of advice - you aren't ready for marriage. Wait till you mature a bit more.
