ijawkid: I knw it might sound a lil dis-appointing,but d true fact is there's notin much we can do for now....do u expect us to start desecrating the church buildings??noo......so when should we start doing something? you see a problem and you say, nah lets not fix it yet. so you want us to wait until it becomes too big to handle? why not nip it in the bud while you can? when will it ever be the right time? dem talk say a stitch in time saves nine. |
killuminati: you call that working out? You must be outa ya mind nigger! That is not how to work out babe.dancing is a workout o. no even try am. it's not lifting weight, cycling etc but its a nice work out like Zumba. Look up zumba and you'll see what I mean. Although this wasnt as intense cause twas prolly just for show, it's still a kind of workout, just a more chilled one. Add a couple of dumb bells and you'll have an intense work out. |
LOL!!! This was very entertaining. I was cracking up the whole time! I loved the looks on the players faces. lol. ![]() |
bandiejay: it signifies God is watching the country while we tackle BH,GEJ,ELRUFIA,PHCn,FUELSCAm,FUELSUBS, etcexcept that this was in Pretoria ![]() |
Tolaaaaannni: Lol its not a fight, but trust me their are some "natural" (I hate that term by the way, i don't think you need to differentiate about people who have natural hair or relaxed hair. It creates just another barrier in the black system.) girls out there that are annoying as hell.I get what you mean. It shouldn't be a big deal really but it doesn't hurt to call it what it is. If its relaxed, its relaxed. If its natural, then that's what it is. However, it doesn't mean that people should hate on each other. Let's respect each other. |
nne3870: when i was litle there were things we were askd nt 2 do(my dad made sure that anybody who violates it recieves serious punishment) like jumping over smbdy who is lying on the ground, hitting somebody with a broom, eating with left hands etc i am stil surprised that ppl find such things as an offense. Its quite interesting 'cause I eat with both hands (I like to believe I'm ambidextrous ). I like switching it up but I won't eat with my left hand if I was eating out of the same bowl with other people. I mean, its what it is. There are so many things we do or don't do just because. I dunno jare. I do what is necessary to respect my elders and when I'm by myself, I do what I like |
Woah... Calm down guys. We are not feeling like we better than those with relaxed hair or anything. People have different reasons for going natural. Not everyone is about black power or any of that jazz. Some of us do is cause its cheaper than doing braids etc here in the us. You guys should take it easy na. Na fight? Everyone can do whatever they want with their hair and we should all respect that cause after na each person get his/her hair. Lol |
Yield: When I went natural, the first few months were actually quite easy for me. Natural hair is easier to maintain when it's shorter. It only becomes a little difficult when your hair starts getting longer. The major issues I had back then were with knots and finding the right products for my hair. But thankfully, not anymore. I especially love deep conditioning now. I used to hate deep conditioning because I felt it wasn't doing anything for my hair and I just thought it wasn't needed. There were times when I didn't even do it at all, lol. Now that I've found a good deep conditioner - a protein deep conditioner, I now know the importance of it because it really strengthens my hair. Some people's hair responds better to moisturizing dc-ing, some to protein, so what you stick with depends on how your hair feels afterwards. Yea, natural hair's a bit of work at first, but it does get easier once you find what works for you. I'm still learning too though. There's always something to learn. =pSame for me! I was totally fine while it was still about 2-3 inches but when it started growing, I decided to get a fade to avoid having to deal with it but it grew back and now I have about 5inches and I really dont know what to do with it. I usually just twist mine up from time to time or wear it out in a fro depending on the weather. Im trying to do didi olowo soon and towards the end of the year, Im getting locs!!! Having natural hair is fun! but it's also quite crazy. There are many videos on youtube that can help and there are blogs and websites etc. Depending on what you want, you can just google it and see what comes up. What Ive learned since I went natural is that you need to find what works for you cause everyone's hair is different but you can never go wrong with natural products like natural oils (olive oil, coconut oil etc), aloe vera, avocado, honey, bananas, eggs, shea butter (ori) etc. If you live in naija, then my best advice is to not live it out for too long. Do something to protect your ends like braids or didi or something and once in a while, wear it out. If you dont mess around with it too much, it grows faster. Btw, DC your hair from time to time, It's amazing. Watch your diet too. Drink lots of water and fruits & veggies |
Thank you!! Honestly like I said earlier. . .a month ago, I would have been one of the "In Naija? Yeah right" chanters but my recent experience with someone who made a success out of it made me rethink my stance. Who was it who said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? If the old ways have brought very little results, how about changing things up? Yeah, there is no denying there are things about our country that needs a major overhaul. . but sometimes just changing our orientation can be the first. . . simplest.step to making the bigger changes.
Right! It starts with our mentality. We need to think differently first in order to act differently and thats what makes us stand out. All those people that do big things, it doesnt happen by doing what everyone else does. Otherwise, they wont be the talk of the town would they? Like I always say, na we dey also "do" ourselves. |
nne3870: wow... We Africans seems to have thesame culture then and for using your left hand to go to toilet does it matter? Its not as if person carry d shit 4 hand dey waka now...Yea, its funny how we have so many things in common. Being there was almost like I was in NG. lol. but as for the hand thing, I dunno o. In Senegal, I can maybe understand cause water is commonly used to clean up instead of toilet paper so yea. I can understand the reasoning behind it. |
Quite honestly, I think we need to get out of this "not in naija" mentality. Things aren't gonna be different if we stick to the norm and just accept whatever. If we just keep applying for jobs the same old boring way, then we just gonna keep going round in circles. Things are not going to change and we are not going to move forward. There are a lot of foreign companies in naija too that are looking for people that stand out. People need to take the initiative to market themselves well. Like earlier mentioned, the company needs your skills. They wanna know what you are bringing to the table and you need to have something unique about you. Something they will remember. Something that will make you stand out from the 500 thousand applicants. |
It's interesting that in Senegal, the same applies just like in Nigeria (at least for the Yoruba). I was in a bus one day and was trying to give the bus conductor my money with my left hand because I was standing and holding on with my right hand. He totally ignored me and immediately I switched to my right hand. Eating with your left hand is also considered rude especially since most times, people eat from the same bowl. I guess its the idea that you use your left hand to clean up after using the toilet. I dont really care if you use your left or right but I definitely wont use my left hand with others especially elders. Funny enough, Im so used to it that even when I'm not in Nigeria, I try not to use my left hand. lol |
It might be Nairaland but not everyone on Nairaland is Nigerian or living in Nigeria. This thread could be helpful to those that are not living in Nigeria since according to you guys, it doesnt apply in NG. On a side note, I think this could very much apply to Naija. I dont see why I cant be confident (not arrogant - there's a difference). Being confident means you know your stuff. Be confident and courteous. I dont see a big deal with that. And the stuff about demonstrating team work etc, I dont see how that cant apply to naija. I guess everything depends on the type of job and the organization too. Bottomline is, dont throw this thread away all cause you think it's not applicable. You can still learn a few things from it and be different from the average job seeker in NG, which is what the thread is all about in the first place. See the positive side to it. |
Teacher Dont Teach me Nonsense is another one of my favs! Infact, I dont know which of Fela's songs aint my favs! *sigh* I wish this guy hadnt died. It's so painful to hear all the truths in his songs. He speaks truth yet no one listens. It's really sad. |

Da infamous: na lie, i saw two Muslim girls in the restaurant eating with their hijab while they are fasting!they are hypocrites too dey pretend... these boko haram Muslim are not fasting beacuse a hungry man cannot carry AK47 and start shooting people and police, you have to eat belly full..and boko haram represent true IslamIf you wanted to clarify some questions you have, fine but you cant start calling the girls hypocrites all because of your ignorance. It's not fair. airfinance has answered you correctly. There are exceptions to fasting such as pregnant women, sick people, women on their periods etc. Biko, dont be insulting other people based on lack of knowledge. |
If you can get the locks done properly and neatly too like sisterlocks or something. Then why not? And if she grows up and wants something different or if after a few years, her hair softens then yea, you can cut off the locks and have about 1-2 inches of hair. But then again, there are many ways of making hard hair soft. Try using a lot of natural products (aloe vera, coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil etc). Try to google these things. And also watch the type of shampoo and conditioner you use. Try not to use petroleum based products too. And pls pls pls, do not relax her hair for anything. Biko I beg you. Please don't relax her hair. To ease the pain, you should comb her hair when its wet and try untangling it when you put the conditioner in. Don't comb it when its dry and after appying stuff to it, comb it gently in sections holding the bottom n combin from the tip first. Gently though |
same old same old. when will these guys sing about something different. Arent they tired ni? I think I'll stick to the the people I listen to, Angelique Kidjo, Asa, Lagabja Freshly ground etc. There's more substance in there than here. *sigh* |

True I agree especially the chocolate, ketchup etc. I was just not buying the rice, beans, pasta thing. I mean rice and beans and bread is what many people eat almost everyday and they aint got acne. But sha, like you said, it has its educative part too. |
Dont be afraid to DIY and ask others for help when you are stuck. The fact that you never traveled before doesn't mean that you cant do anything about yourself. If you trynna get into the US, then you've got to learn to do these things OYO. Here's the lagos embassy website: http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/non-immigrant_visas.html you should be able to take it from here. btw, you need to pay the visa fee before you start your application because you need the receipt no or whatever it's called. It's not as complicated as it seems. Once you get started, then check out the link that wurajone posted. |
CAMEROONPRIDE: chouette ca.....sinon tu as un petit copain ou bien t'es mariee?Merci. Mariee?? mais non! pas encore lol. petit copain, non. pas maintenant aussi. j'ai pas de temps pour ca. |

ahmedgafar7: .Visit the website first. (Google us embassy lagos or abuja depending on where you want to be interviewed) and check out the instructions on student visa applications. If you have any questions, you can come bk and ask. Btw, there might be other threads on this issue (I rarely visit the travel section). |
