There is an obvious flaw in your argument but to get to it, APC fans will have to admit something they have always mendaciously denied - that the size of the economy has grown substantially since 1999 such that foreign reserves of $30bn and oil prices of $40 are not sufficient to maintain our present standard of living.

In 1999, the minimum wage was about 550 to 800 Naira. At today's income levels, Nigerians consume far more (much of it imported) that foreign reserves of $30bn are now insufficient to maintain present consumption levels. This is also a major indictment of our PDP governments. If you wanted to know why GEJ's era failed to produce savings from the high oil prices, look no further than recurrent expenditure (the public sector wage bill and its attendant effect on aggregate consumption).

Wages should increase in line with productivity growth, but by more than tripling wages (the minimum wage went from N5000 to N18,000), it meant government needed oil prices to remain at +$100 p/b to pay workers. The big increase in wages meant that consumption increased and with that our import bill. Because these wage increases were not driven by productivity growth but by government fiat to gain cheap popularity, they were unsustainable once the government and the economy's main source of income and forex, oil, collapsed.

Where I differ from most is that I do not attribute blame for these policy mis-steps to just the political class. It's Nigerians' penchant for supporting populist and economically illiterate policies that puts us in these dire situations. Yar'Adua & GEJ increased public sector wages because such financially suicidal policy goes down well with Nigerians. When people today laugh at Osun, we should remember that its fiscal troubles are not because Aregbesola was extraordinarily corrupt, it's because he was trying to gain/maintain popularity by spending on infrastructure at a financially unsustainable rate. To illustrate how financial imprudence is popular with Nigerians, recall that APC's official policy according to Lai Mohammed when oil prices were high was that the excess crude account and other saving measures like the SWF ought to be abolished. You see, the political class are drawn from the ranks of Nigerians and as long as Nigerians support moronic policies, changing the ruling party won't make much of a difference in the long run.

If I'm wrong, kindly correct me... The Foreign reserve we accuse GEJ of mismanaging, was it used to fund project Nigeria or his personal asset?

GEJ and Okonjo made a case for a special savings account, if I remember clearly, Amaechi and his fellow APC colleagues demanded that the money be released to them to fund their state budgets.

If after a year PMB, Liar Moh'd are still accusing GEJ for the current state of affairs of Nigeria, it simply means they lack solution to project Nigeria.

I just wish APC had not misled some gullible Nigerians, and Labour Unions to protest against subsidy removal in 2012, I'm very sure by now Nigeria would have been out of the woods by now and the exchange rate wouldn't have been this high. The economy would have been stabilized.

Let's Pray that God will grant or leaders wisdom to rule and lead us right; Nigerians, the wisdom and humility to be led.

I believe in Nigeria and very certain things will get better. God bless Nigeria.

Bro, nobody is sabotaging the economy. Buhari is sabotaging himself.
I am beginning to suspect that your head is very correct the moment I read this comment so!!

A man - Nigerians - employs another man - President Buhari - as a steward to help him take care of his shop where he sells bread.
A customer comes into the shop to ask for good bread and the shop stewards says "All the bread in this shop are not good, In fact some of these bread have been here for 3 days but it is still tangible". The man like - many before him - doesn't buy any bread.

The man who employed asks his staff "What going on, why haven't you been able to sell any bread since you have been here". The stewards answer "it's the way I met the shop. You cannot blame me, if people refuse to buy bread, because it is not "today" bread is it my fault"

If the steward of the shop leaves such a person in that shop, for one year, how much bread is that person ever going to sell??

Who is to blame for the poor sales in the shop? The steward or owner of the shop who employed the steward??

When the shop business dies - note, I said when and not if the shop business dies - who suffers? The steward, the owner or both??

China is a country where corruption and crime is high class; it is only in places like China that currency designs are reviewed averagely on an 18months tenure because of currency counterfeiters. It is in China you hear how people pay others and their families to do plastic surgery so that they can help the high and mighty to serve jail terms.

But I have never heard Li xinping tell any one that China is a very corrupt country. He went to the UK to re-establish trade/diplomatic ties between China and the U.K.

Nigerian President goes everywhere telling anything that looks like a camera or a microphone that Nigeria is too corrupt. In fact he goes everywhere telling them to check if your banks may have "loot" because it is lost likely from my country.

And then you come home and start holding investment forums and ask foreign investors to put their money in your country. And you expect legitimate and honest business men and women to come. Infact you are worsen the case, because illegitimate and criminal businessmen are drawn to corrupt countries.

What stops a business front from coming to Nigeria under the guise of promoting agriculture in the North and then turn around and sell weapons to Boko Haram!!

This our President is the main saboteur as far as Nigeria as a country is concerned.
PoliticsRe: (pics)where Are This Celebs Who Cried Out During GEJ Fuel Hike Pics by ehissi(m): 11:56am On May 14, 2016
It is unfortunate that any time criticism is directed towards the government of the day; that their fans are quick to make reference to the governmentof yesterday!! Meanwhile the power to make meaningful changes rests in the hands of the government of today!!

Criticize and they call GEJ names like ineffectual baffoon!! And compare the way Buhari is handling issues compared to how Jonathan handled them!!

Well!! Jonathan never promised to scrap the Huge sums of money spent on the presidential fleet and failed, Jonathan never promised to make a naira equals to the dollar.

An Jonathan most certainly never allowed his brethren get away with murderlike the fulanis did in rivers, oyo and agatu in benue!!

Henry Okah's prosecution in southafrica and his relatives prosecution in Nigeria is proof!! Name one of Buhari's kinsmen that have been made to face justices for killings under Buhari! Even in ikorodu were it was reported that Children were beheaded by Hausa folks, men and women were stabbed to death by Hausa people caught in the act by the military and by MOPOL not one person was tried andyet you lot are busy shouting "Sai Baba"!!

The Head of MACBAN herdsmen said " a fulani man is a rich man anywhere he is; he has his money"!! Then why is FG using Nigeria's money to establish grazing commission and importing grass from brazil - is that not corruption or isn't it Nigerian grass the cows have been eating all this while -??

If the Fulani man is a rich man then he should import his own grass or better yet buy land, plat his own grass withhis own money!! Nonsense!!

It is not a matter of whether subsidy removal is good or bad; PPPRA is the only legally constituted body that is charged with fixing prices and the PPRA board has not been constituted.

Tell MR Integrity that fixing the price of fuel arbitrarily is illeegal and a breach of our Nations laws!!

That what you get when a Nepa Bill holder becomes president!! Lies, Illegality everywhere and a selfie taking government!!

PoliticsRe: The Notable Difference Between Jonathan And Buhari's Subsidy Removal by ehissi(m): 2:18am On May 13, 2016
koboko69:
Subsidy Removal under Jonathan;

Jonathans government announced the total removal of subsidy on Jan 1 2012.

The Facts;

1. Oil sold at 113 usd per barrel as at Dec 31st 2011

2. The exchane rate as at Dec 2011 was 1 usd to N 162.3

3. Jonathan's Predecessor actually dropped PMS price from N75 to N65 and was able to sustain subsidy whilst handling the amnesty program for repentant millitants till his early dismiss.

4. A more bouyant foreign reserve and growing ecomomy.

The government's major basis of total removal of subsidy was sighted as massive corruption. Rather than deal with the monster, the incompetence of the government was shifted to the masses. Many Nigerians were not ready to make the government have more money to loot, as subsidy was still sustainable at that time.

After the Occupy Nigieria protests, the price of PMS was revised to N97 per littre, with the promise of urban busses, building and rehabilitation of refineries e.t.c. It is interesting to note that the only partially successful programme after the subsidy removal was SURE-P because some Nigeirans benefitted from it without the "u must know someone" clause. Till the exit of Jonathan's government, we had no functional refineries, neither were new ones built.

Please note, Boko Haram was more like rag tag millitant as at the time of subsidy removal but later grew to a sophisticated, machine guns, tanks rolling millitant. So BH as an excuse is not tenable.

Subsidy removal under President Buhari.

1. Oil price selling below 40usd per barrel

2. Exchange rate of N197-N199 to a dollar and N320 to a dollar in the parallel market.

3. An ailing economy, with limited FOREX, and dwindling reserves.

The major reason for the total removal of subsidy by the current government is because of scarcity of Forex and an ailing economy. NNPC could not sustain solely importing petroleum products, and there is not enough Forex to give major oil marketers to handle the importation of petroleum products. It should also be noted that the present government have been able to tackle corruption to a fault in the oil industry.

The oil Marketters have now been given the liberty to source forex from other sources to import fuel which is the major reason for the high price hike.

The current government have made moves which will see the price of PMS drop in the nearest future. For the first time in years we have the Warri, Kaduna, and Port Harcourt refineries working together but some misguided youths amd miscreants in the name of avengers have decided to keep sabotaging the efforts of the present government.
There are also moves on ground to build more refineries.

In my opinion, the deregulation of the lower stream sector is right on track at this time and I stand with Buhari on this.

For now i see no reason why this government should not be supported, as they still have more than 2 years to deliver. Should the government not meet up to expectations before next elections, then Nigerians can't take their anger to the polls.

God Bless Nigeria.
Point of corrections! As at the time Baba Yar Ada closed eyes, we had $3Billion in our foreign reserves, stop throwing lies. There was nothing robust about our foreign reserves. That is the new lie that the APC government and their friends are telling people.

A lot of people clapping for the 2016 budget Aka "Budget of change" didn't even know that subsidy was silently removed, yet they were clapping for Mr President.

Shame on them. They have only proven Jonathan to be a leader of thought and a man of fore-sight. If he could consider doing what Buhari is trying to do now when we weren't in a tight corner economically imagine what he would have achieved if Nigerians were patient till the 2015 polls.

You also erroneously forgot to mention that Jonathan created Palliative measures, oya since you sabi talk, start listing the measures put in place to ensure that Nigerians aren't made to suffer.

The last time I checked, President Buhari's reason for not devaluing the Naira and applying currency restrictions was because he didn't want to cause Nigerian more hardship.

The subsidy removal na enjoyment ba? Make una continue to deny support rubbish. In any case, PPPRA board - Which hasn't even been constituted - is constitutionally responsible for reviewing the price of petrol in Nigeria.

If you remember clearly, January 2012, it was the PPPRA that announced the review in the pump price of petrol and not Ministry of Information nor the Presidency.

It's not even a matter of whether the policy is right or wrong, it is illegal. Only a fantastically co--up- President will allow such a breach our Nations laws just because he thinks he knows it all, can do it all, he has all power and everybody in Nigeria is a thief except him and The Late General Sani Abacha.

In any case, President Buhari lied on Aljazeera, when he was cornered on FX currency restrictions, and how parents couldn't get FX at official rate; President Buhari said only critical sectors of the Nation would have access to forex at the official rate.

So the petroleum sector is not critical enough ba? But his daughters school fees and education in the UK is critical enough compared to petroleum or even the school fees of other Nigerians who send their kids to school overseas.

For the record, are you even aware that it is possible that some of these Niger delta avengers are linked to the ex-militants who were thrown out of schools abroad and professional institutes overseas because of the governments refusal to pay their school fees.

What arrangements have been put in place to ensure that despite government's change of plan of them doing courses abroad that Nigerian schools don't offer, that these we folks aren't misled to take up arms again as a result of frustration ??

Some of these folks finished their education under Jonathan, some of them are trained pilots today, marine engineers etc and are not under obligation of the amnesty program. It's the unlucky ones that are suffering under this our Fantastically Co--up- President, yet he is there making mouth as though he didn't doesn't understand who the Niger delta avengers are.

Jonathan had Boko-Haram to deal with and you say it's inexcusable; Fulani herdsmen that are killing people like Lassa fever that is ravaging the country is that one excusable??

This government, by Kaichukwu's own assertion has experienced the worst fuel scarcity in the History of Nigeria in over a decade, stretching over 9months (9months whey mama don born baby finish); common Lassa fever that Irrua Specialist hospital in Edo state will test and diagnose under 2hrs and commence treatment is killing people more than even Boko-haram suicide Bombers.

Go to Virology Department in University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital and ask for LASSA Fever test, they will take sample and ask you to come back after 2days - meanwhile the current health minister na former VC of University of Ibadan. By 2 days the LASSA fever never kill person finish; but with favour with God and with man, and without considering party differences GEJ was to address the Ebola crisis at a time when there was no clear cure for Ebola. In states that were even at political variance with him, Lagos and Rivers.

Na fuel subsidy una even deny use dey talk matter, una never even ask how stew take dey don nowadays, with the current food shortages and instead of Buhari to review agricultural policies forward, he reviewed them backward in favour of oil. Spending far less than Jonathan invested inAgriculture in the 2015 budget and Jonathan wasn't even aggressively pursuing diversification. Just imagine.

Be supporting rubbish Oooh!!! You hear!! I just hope like Utomi said, Buhari no make people dey queue for salt and rice. angry

GENERAL NOTICE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We regret to inform the general public that His Royal Madness, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, The APC and His Royal craftiness Lai Mohammed will be unable to fund/sponsor nor participate in the currently suggested #OccupyLagos or #OccupyNigeria protests this year.

This is because we are convinced that with the current government in place, Nigeria is already deemed "occupied" and reoccupying may lead to overloading which is not good for the Nigerian economy at the moment considering that we are yet to receive delivery of our "dividends" of democracy from this new and vibrant administration.

Also we wish to warn Nigerians, wailing wailers and miscreants alike that Ojota is currently unavailable at the moment, as His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Governor Ambode is currently working tirelessly to keep Lagos state (particularly the Ojota axis) clean and odour free.

The general consensus is to prepare ourselves as a nation for more important activities like repairing and rebuilding the economy, generating employment through the Rebranding and Repackaging of our Southern-eastern Masquerade, ensuring the security of Fulani herdsmen and livestock as well as ensuring a free and fair election in 2019 - exactly like the one Jega gave us in 2015 with the same result.

Also the Save Nigeria group, SNG, also regrets to inform the General public that it wont be involving/sponsoring nor participating in any activity remotely linked to the current increase in the pump price of petrol - which it believes is due to the recent decision of the Buhari administration to remove subsidy as well as looting of successive administration (actually only the Jonathan Administration).

This decision was reached because the SNG is convinced that Nigeria does not require saving at the moment, as the only approved and authorized saviour as recommended by our Chairman and National convener - asides from the Lord Jesus - is General Muhammadu Buhari who is currently "#Occupying" the Presidency and calls to #OccupyLagos or #OccupyNigeria or occupy ojota or anywhere on Nigerian soil will lead to further anarchy which my distort or pad Mr president's body language - a very undesirable outcome, if you know what I mean.

We will also like to re-appreciate people and interest groups like His Excellency, the Governor of Kaduna state, governor El-rufai; Kwam 1, Fela Durotaye, Pa Ikhide, the NLC, NANS, ASUU, Civil society groups and other individuals and groups who lent their immense support to the last #OccupyNigeria protest of 2012.

Apologized you most be joking, how can PDP be running our economy on importation of petroleum for 16 year's without looking inward for local refining an essential commodities for God sake when we have crude. What stop us from building a refinery since instead of paying subsidies to criminal that finance PDP.

Oil boom is over we need to go back to farming.
Don't deceive yourself. The budget for agriculture in 2016 is less than 2015. When Buhari talks about diversifying into agriculture, he is simply referring to the governors to leave him alone as far as excess crude oil revenue is concerned and that is why you see governors publicizing investment forums up and down and inviting Buhari, Osibanjo and Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

From Katsina, to Ogun to Oyo state all na Telemundo, after 3 months they will still go and meet him for more cash after all the price of oil is currently above the benchmark.

You dont have to believe me, Ministry of Finance website is a good place to get the budget. Look at the summary, Buhari has not given up on oil one day.
PoliticsRe: Proof Buhari's/APC Fuel Subsidy Is A Scam Planned Months Ago To Decieve Us by ehissi(m): 11:34pm On May 12, 2016
They just want to use the increment to make money for themselves. Afterall, they want to unbundle NNPC and make an investor in the field as well.

Lai Mohammed said that government had gone past the argument of subsidy as it was currently subsidizing at #13 Naira, which amounted to #1 trillion.

#86.50 + #13.00 = #99.50

#145.00 - #99.50 = #45.50

Since NNPC is the only one importing, and it also has filling stations of its own, it will make cash both as an investor and as a regulator. It will be making profit of over #45.50 minus what it makes in the course of importation.

Let me as again, who is the substantive minister of petroleum??

I admire your optimism, I must say that it is highly commendable! Even as Christians, we are commended to always have a positive outlook on life and never lose hope!!

But the facts speaks for themselves!! In any case, the fact that you jail somebody doesn't make U a leader or a hero in a corrupt nation!!

In any case, he jailed awolowo but still went to apologise to the awolowo family; plus he had people, civillians tried by military tribunal for civil matters!!

That is a crime anywhere in the world: which is why he continues to deny that he ever did such. Even when people who have faced such tribunals have testified to the contrary!!

He also tried - and failed woefully -to suppress the media in his "hey days" as well as many folks that he just jailed like Ojukwu just for the f-ck of it.

What people insist on is the the anti-corruption tempo must continue; but it must be guided by the law and not vendetta.

Even cardinal Okojie has blasted Buhari for the way and manner he is going about it!! If he seeks to rid the Nation of Corrupt elements; he is welcome but breaking the law in the process defeats the purpose of his anti-corruption drive without spare tire!

U have spoken and I will remind you in a years time when your alleged jailing will take place; just like tuale4u, who opened thread for budget 2016 and said buhari should be commended for withdrawing the budget through the backdoor and that it was only " a break of protocol and he broke no law".

He maintained that position, until he heard that the budget was padded. That was how he abandoned his own thread but when anybody dey praise buhari on any issue on the budget he must showup. I now made it my Job to remind him of his comments before he heard the budget was padded and when I do he remains silent!!

Una whey no be lawyers, una whey no dey ask lawyers questions about proceedings in court or follow court proceedings closely dey express unfounded optimism when the fact of the cases are clear and on ground!!

Many people don't even know that Dasuki is on trial for roughly $80m and not $2.1bn and yet they are hailing Buhari for taking him to court while blowing lies in the media!!

I will wait for a year; infact I will start reminding you after 2 years to show me all the people that Buhari's EFCC has jailed. At least then you will know that Buhari is just playing on Nigerians intelligence, Naivity and ignorance.

PoliticsRe: Saraki's Assets Declaration Form Has Been "Tampered With" - Lawyer by ehissi(m):
The case was a foolish man's undertaking from the get-go!! Anyone who has half a brain would know that it is politically motivated for the following reasons!!

1.) The CCT cannot Jail Saraki; it can only bar him from holding public office, seize his assets and recommend him for impeachment or sack before the Senate. That's all!! They just want him out of the Senate and if possible spoil his career for going against parties choice for senate presidency. Chikena!!

2.) The Court is a special administrative court that is under the CCB, which is under the Secretary General of The Federation. As opposed to normal court, where you petition the NJC, National Judicial Commission if a judge is deemed to be unethical. In the case of the CCT you petition the Office of the Secretary General.

And who appoints the Secretary General of the Federation directly??........ President Buhari.

Which is actually the core reason the Senate wanted to amend the CCT act, so that it could bring it directly under the Judiciary and take it away from the Presidency to force CCT judges to be accountable before the Courts/the law instead of the Presidency!!

At the end of the day: this court is a Kangaroo court and won't even dare find Saraki guilty because too many flops were involved in the proceedings which could indict the judge assuming the court was under the Judiciary !!

How can EFCC be prosecuting a case for CCB in a CCT before a judge that initially refused to clear an allegation of #100million Naira bribe raised by the same EFCC- only for EFCC to clear the Judge of the #100million bribe allegation after he insisted that Saraki face trial before him in his court; in a court under the direct Jurisdiction of the Presidency and you expect fair judgement!!??

Buhari is just making a mockery of the office of Presidency before the world!! No wonder David Cameron was forced to comment!!

First U accuse Dasuki of Diverting $2.1billion; yet you place him on trial for a punny #25billion Naira - roughly $80million!! What happened to the balance of over $2.02billion dollars and why isn't he facing trial forthe balance as wellhuh We nor know and Nigerians no ask!!

Then when the time comes for you to prove he stole the money in open court; you ask the Judge for secret trial - which the Judge Bluntly refuse - till today FG has refused to bring Dasuki to court till today!!

Nnamdi Kanu nko?? You accuse him of Treason and spreading hate speech and succession!! After using him to shine in the media; oya come to court and prove it. My advise is for them to consider the possibility of the lady being involved in an issue before she got home;it could be an accident or something.

Also her colleague should be questioned ; whether she hinted that she may be going somewhere after work.

Let her family take her photo to all the local clinics and general hospitals within lagos!!

She may just be somewhere recuperating from an event somewhere!!

All the best !!

There is a reason we go to school, it is not to pass exams, neither is it to just get certificates to apply for jobs. The reason we go to school is so our brains are developed so we can think and comprehend things for ourselves without having to have it explained to us as primary school pupils. My education all through my life would be a waste if I expect every little detail to be explained to me. Once again I say, Lai was simply referring to the economic potentials derivable from promoting cultural festivals, as an educated adult, I dont need a robust explanation like a child to understand the meaning of what he said. Unfortunately, for the sake of political and ethnic sentiments, most of you guys have sent your discerning abilities on holidays
I don't know who is more confused; you or Lai mohammed!

A man was invited to the National Assembly - The house of Reps to be precise - for a sectoral debate on how he intends to Boost the economy of this country through tourism as the Federal Minister of Information and Culture!!

In light of the fact that this exercise is taking place at the same venue where he defended fiscal budget for his ministry; details won't hurt anyone.

Except he himself had no clear idea of what he wants do!!

He has a ministry that has a budget that was defended and has been signed. Billions of Naira have been voted to his ministry; now they invite him to a Media Parley/debate at the National assembly on National Television to explain how he intends to make tourism a Money spinner and he is busy giving anonymous masquerades.

In the absence of details, let me guess; he will travel to the south-east and ask the igbos and IPOB people alike to give him the names of maquerades that they just any bloody tom, dick and harry can participate in the rituals of preparation.

The basic requirement for recruiting and branding is that the masquerade must need between 100 to 1000 people to dress it up and then UnCloth it as well!! Is that it nkwa??

And you; with all your years of education and thinking faculty see nothing wrong with it. Then you must have a problem of your own!!

Ok! You want me and all sane Nigerians alike to comprehend the details - from fictitious and unrealistic scenerios like professional maquerade dressing - of how Lai mohammed wants to spends billions of Naira to make the tourism sector of this country a money spinner and a means of generating employment and boosting our economy!!

Failure to do so, automatically makes one politically sentimental, tribal bigots infact our thinking faculties have gone on recess!!

You clearly have a problem that even common sense cannot cure!!!

An educated Minister would have at least referred us to the basic details as contained in the approved budget details - which is in billions of Naira - that he just defended intend of telling masquerade stories!!

A smarter minister would have stressed the need to curtail excesses -considering the paucity of funds - and even campaigned for more funds to push for projects that were not approved by House committee on appropriations that have the potential to improve our fortunes as a Nation.

Instead of going to tell more lies on national television!!

the northerners knew if gej won that election, 2014 confab will be implemented n put into law. implementing that report means the niger delta states will control their resources so no more free money to share to those parasites, so they teamed up with the yorubas n act a fool.

once states keep receiving free monies from oil sales, how will they reason wellbeyond oil?

The simple point Lai was trying to make was that masquerade festivals (or similar cultural festivals) could be rebranded and promoted for tourism, EOD!

With the explanations I gave, only a person who is politically or ethnically prejudiced would still argue over this simple explanation.
Well!! Except I am quoting Lai Mohammed himself or his Personal assistant on Masquerade Affairs; he didn't give the scenerio/analysis/explanation you gave!!

Except you are planning to corner him one of these and offer him your "Explanations": we are doomed to judge him by the explanations he gave and not the one you gave.

We judge him, only based on the scenerios/explanation he debated on the floor of the House just like people judge fashola based on his 6months "Rocket Science scenerio".

And based on the Explanation he gave, Lai Mohammed like Fashola was just pulling out Scenerios outta his ass.

One thing, he didn't even mention the particular tribe nor the name of the masquerade festival in the south east where he said it takes 100 people to dress-up a masquerade. Also nobody in the east, not even in Cross-rivers - that has a plethora of Masquerades - is corroborating is 100-man dressing committe masquerade.

Is it possible to rebrand certain aspects of culture of some states for tourism!!?? Yes!!

Is it possible given the scenerio Lai Mohammed gave!!?? No!!!

From corporate organisations to even project defence within an academic environment environment. If you propose a theory/hypothesis or a project and provide case studies; if scenerios within the case study are faulty or deemed not plausible, then the entire project or hypothesis is called to question.

Either you work on your scenerios/case study or change project/hypothesis.

As a minister, I expect him to work with facts. You - to the best of my Knowledge, which is very shallow as far as you are concerned - are not even a minister. But you were smart enough to give details of how to successfully rebrand festivals and you cited specific examples!!

Then a whole minister is busy throwing vague ideas, similitude of knowlegde and speculations!!

That actually bears the trappings of sheer cluelessness at best, at worst, incompetence and a sign of a minister of information and culture who has no information on culture!!

A scenerio that replays itself with Kemi Adeosun!! Who equally displays sheer ignorance of facts and figures; basic tools required to lead organisations. How much more a country as big as ours!!

Its a sign!! A very bad sign I tell you! And you would need to have a huge bias for the current government or party in power to think otherwise.

Period!!

There was absolutely nothing wrong in what Lai Mohammed said. The only problem is the pathetic incapacity of Nigerians to engage in critical reasoning; we actually prefer to make jokes and laugh rather than sparing a microsecond of our time and a tiny fraction of our intellects to ruminate on the import of certain statements. Of course Nigerian social media has been agog for 2 days with our so called leaders of tomorrow making jokes and throwing away the embedded message; I just shook my head in disgust at the shallowness of most Nigerians.

To summarise the meaning of Lai's simple statement for those who have failed to deploy critical reasoning, Lai was simply referring to the vast economic potentials obtainable from promoting cultural festivals. Today we have the Calabar carnivals where we copy far away Caribbean culture, meanwhile we have our own culture which can also be redefined, rebranded and promoted. There is hardly any community in the entire SE for example which doesn't have a particular 'Mmanwu' festival; so also is the case for almost every community in the SS and SW (I dont know about the north). When you imagine the economic benefits the Calabar carnival alone accrues to the city, you can only imagine what could be possible if cultural festivals can be totally overhauled, re-branded and promoted. It took a visionary leader like Donald Duke to think about a thing like the carnival, and I am sure he was seriously mocked by Nigerians like yourself at the time. Today all that is history, we now have many other cities copying Calabar.

Once again I put it to you, the problem is not Lai Mohammed because he was only making common sense, the real problem is uncommon-ness of common sense amongst the teeming population of Nigerian youths evidenced in the inability for critical reasoning and the inordinate desire to make jokes out of everything.
I for one, marvel at folks who try to hold forte for Lai Mohammed's as regards his statement of Masquerades being "Repackaged" to employ Nigerians!!

Lai Mohammed made a comment that clearly display his talent for telling lies. It is largely on the basis of this comment that his entire deposition is discredited; also it is largely on the basis of this particular comment that the Honourable members of the House of Reps raise questions as to to how he intends to generate employment through tourism!!

Please note that I am paraphrasing and not quoting verbatim.

"That there are Maquerades in the South-East - E don go find trouble for IPOB people side - that require a 100 people to dress them up and another 100 people to UnCloth"

He also suggested that rebranding the masquerade preparations can provide employment opportunities for 1000 people!!

All those people arguing in favour of Lai Mohammed are simply trying to make "a way where they seems no way". Something me I know say na only Baba God dey do and not Buhari nor Lai Mohammed.

I am from Edo state, and I know that except we want to create masquerades just for the sake of tourism; not just any tom, dick and harry is permitted to be involved in preparations of masquerade - a lot of them which have Occultic/Spiritual implications which are closely linked to our culture.

Except for folks who are willing to bastardize their cultural heritage for "green-backs" from tourist, in most communities in Edo-state; such idea is just dead on arrival.

Highest, they televise the festivals and invite local and international bodies to sponsor it, that's all.

Anything other than that, is living within the realm of Lai Mohammed's vivid imagination, which I perceive is very roboust; judging from the big big lies the guy dey blow daily!!

About the environment, let's face it, its been destroyed already by years of degrading exploitation. If the Oil companies, the Federal government and the rest of the country couldn't care less, why would you expect militants tottering Sub Machine Guns to to care. Please be real. If you've ever been in the creeks, you'd know that the worst kind of degradation happens 24hrs non stop and that's Gas flaring.

About the economy, I think we have a leadership that is totally bereft of simple wisdom. Time and time again, it displays daft practices that confound even an illiterate. Any primary school student would know that it was unnecessary at this time of critically low oil prices for the Buhari Govt to attempt to wage an Ego propping macabre with the likes of Tompolo.
Who in his right senses goes on the pages of newspapers to prosecute a militant for corruption.
Buhari's senseless actions are responsible for whatever crippling our economy suffers in the hands of these militants.

ABOUT CHEVRON. You are shameless Mr. So Chevron that pays huge taxes should be responsible for providing security against Militants wielding some of the most sophisticated weaponry available. That's an aberration.

ABOUT AMNESTY. the amnesty program was a huge success by numerous counts. There was peace in the creeks for 7 good years. It success gave Nigeria an extra $30billion in revenue.
My brother your head seems to be very correct.

When you have clearly outlined goals and a vision; it is easy to tell a line of action is counter productive.

Going after Tompolo in that Fashion was not only politically motivated - seeing that the success of the entire amnesty program was largely tied to tompolo - but it technically violated the terms of the amnesty program.

Already, the government had be putting up stories in the news of how militants schooling abroad must suspend their programs and come home then you now add the tompolo issue and you expect peacein the creeks!!

Forget about environmental degradation; for the record there are people who have even offered me crude oil in small vials/bottle for sale. According to them it has medicinal value so leave story!!

Let's us not also forget that contracts to secure pipleines in the south-west awarded to OPC and contracts to secure pipelines in the south-south awarded to the Ex-militants have been stopped.

What alternative arrangement did he put in place?? It is not clear.

The government seems more interested in shoring up cheers from fans and gaining political capital than actually taking/making conscious efforts towards securing/rescuing the nation from further setbacks!!!

PoliticsRe: Did Kemi Adeosun Expose Buhari And APC On Channels. by ehissi(m):
it is madness to blame Kemi Adeosun or Buhari for the problems of our economy; it is what they met on ground, they didnt create the problems that we are facing!!

it is also equally madness to blame the previous administration for the current state of the Nation, most especially when the power to make changes has been transfered to Buhari and his Ministers; Kemi Adeosun inclusive.

Any fellow trying to excuse Kemi Adeosun's lack of knowledge of Key economic figures is totally daft, seeing that she is now technically responsible for the economy and figures/indicators are used to make decisions.

Its like a football coach who just sent out players to a pitch for a match and he doesnt even know who the players are neither has he seen them in action. Do you expect him to win!!

Even John quest of CNN, seeing Kemi Adeosun's performance and the state of the Nation was forced to declare Nkonjo Iweala as the best finance Minister we have ever had.

We had clear figure, clear economic goals, clear yardsticks for determining our line of action. Now, even economic respondents abroad lack the capacity to rate Nigeria because we dont have any clear economic goal except to diversify the economy from oil into agriculture; a goal that isnt even reflecting in the 2016 appropriation bill that people are wondering when Buhari will sign, else he wouldnt have invested less than GEJ did in Agriculture in 2015 if he truly wished to shift from oil into agriculture.

Any one who has seen Kemi adeosun's CV from day one will know that she never sought a career in Macro-economics or any form economics for that matter. She is more or less a Professional auditor who just got her ICAN less than 3 years ago!!

i wasnt expecting her to amaze me now and i am not expecting it ever. She is practically running the economy like OJT - On the Job trainee.
