References:
The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, on Monday disclosed plans to build an airport within the campus of the institution soon.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Eyitope, dropped the hint at the 2019 Faculty of Technology International Conference, held at OAU ICT Park recently, saying that the airport would serve as training ground for the planned aeronautic programme of the university.

The vice-chancellor said, “We believe that the future of travel globally is in the air. It is in view of this that we are starting an aeronautic programme. As part of this, we will be having our own airport.

“We have over 11,000 hectares of land, with which we hope to achieve our objective and we have developed a proposal for the airport. We will be taking it up with the authorities to ensure that we do not only have the aeronautic programme here, but also build an airport that will serve that purpose.

“We want to make OAU the hub of aeronautic studies in Nigeria. Currently no federal university in the country offers a programme in aeronautic studies. We believe that with OAU taking up this challenge, we can go places with it.

“This idea was contemplated some years ago. Now we are very serious with it. We have the drawings in place and the land has been earmarked. Everything that we need for the airport and to start the programme is ready.”

In his keynote address, themed, ‘Diversification of Developing Economies: Imperatives for Sustainable Environment and Technological Innovations’, Prof Oluwatoyin Ashiru said ideas are abundant in Nigeria but the framework transform the ideas into reality.

Stressing that ideas abandoned in the country thrived in other countries of the world, Ashiru noted that the difference between Nigeria and other countries is the level of commitment and dedication to its development.

According to him, irrespective of the challenges facing the country, the country must embark on technological innovationand sustained support for research and development.

Politics › Re: PEPT: Atiku goes to Supreme Court Monday, to file 70-point grounds of appeal by ejimatic: 3:06pm On Sep 22, 2019
References:
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has concluded plans to file an appeal on Monday challenging the outcome of the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal, PEPT.

According to THISDAY, ahead of Wednesday’s deadline for an appeal against the tribunal’s judgement, Mr Atiku had put together 70 points as grounds for the appeal, which he plans to turn in on Monday.

The PEPT judgement was delivered on September 11 and Mr Atiku, as the appellant, had 14 days to file an appeal. By this calculation, the deadline for the filling of an appeal is Wednesday, September 25, while the petition has a lifespan of 60 days within which the appeal must be determined.

An unnamed Mr Atiku’s lawyer was quoted by the newspaper as saying that the former vice president’s lawyers had put together 70 grounds of appeal based on errors dictated from the tribunal’s judgement.

According to him, “We will file latest on Monday, September 23, and at most, due to any unforeseen reason, by September 24. Bear in mind that the deadline for submission is Wednesday. We won’t file on Wednesday for tactical reasons.”

The lawyer also ruled out the possibility of a new legal team, because the new lawyers would not have sufficient legal background of the petition since the Supreme Court panel is expected to deliver its judgement within 60 days from September 25.

He said one of the 70 grounds of appeal is that “the judgement of the PEPT was based on the facts; the judgement was not on the issues presented to the Court of Appeal presidential tribunal by the petitioner, especially in relation to the respondent’s academic qualifications.”

He said, “Take, for instance, one of the respondent’s witnesses, Major General Paul Tarfa (rtd), called by President Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyers said that they did not give their qualifications to the Military Board. Tarfa’s testimony is against the claim by Buhari that the Nigeria military is in possession of his certificates.

“Secondly, Buhari said that he was recruited into the military in 1961 and Tarfa said in 1962, so what is the correct date of his recruitment into the army?Somebody is not telling the truth.

“The issue in question is who entered the different grades for him from both the Cambridge and the West African School Certificate results. This is the first time that the court will say that the documents are admitted in the interest of justice. So, who entered the different grades for him and if he did it, why?

“One of the grounds of appeal is that the President’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, brought the Cambridge documents dated July 18 and testified on July 20. The point here is that it was not pleaded, when the respondent replied to the petitions of Atiku. So, speaking as in point of law, you don’t speak on documents not pleaded.

“The WAEC documents contradicted the Cambridge documents. This is a case of forgery, inconsistency in documents.”
The lawyer added, “On the INEC server, the judgement of the PEPT said the INEC server was hacked and we then asked, which of the servers was hacked?

“The tribunal judgement was based on the Electoral Act section 52 (1) (B), but this aspect of the law has since been deleted in 2015. It is no longer in existence. This was the case in Wike Vs Peterside.

“If the judgement said INEC server was recklessly hacked, then, there is a server and, therefore, a criminal offence. Yet, INEC did not claim so or that its documents were stolen. How come the judge reached this scandalous decision?

“If section 52 (1) (B) is no longer in existence, how come the lead judgement came to this decision? It was not based on the documents pleaded. Therefore, how come it was decided so? That means that the judge went on a voyage of discoveries and exploration. Buhari was not accused of forgery. Rather, he was accused of lying, when he said the army was in possession of his documents.

“In his form CF001, he presented an affidavit, instead of his certificates. PEPT relied on the CV presented. We are asking, is that supposed to be so? CV is basically to show working experience. No Primary School certificate. The judgement was based on inferences. The judge simply inferred.

“We are surprised that the PEPT went the way it did. It is our view that the judges would have gone further to help improve our electoral laws as well as use it to commence the reform of the electoral laws. So, these are some of the issues that form the grounds of the 70 points of appeal at the Supreme Court.”

Her tweets reads; “We stand on with Sowore and defend his constitutional right and freedom to protest any matter of Governance that worries him.

Mr Sowore’s convening of Citizens to protest Poor Governance - via RevolutionNow- is Constitutionally guaranteed.

Gratitude to his legal team.

Democracy and Voice are Siamese Twins.

How long shall it take before the FG understands the basis of Democracy?

Our FG led by President Buhari may think they have ‘caged’ Sowore because he dared to challenge Bad Leadership and Poor Governance through #RevolutionNow.

Not so, actually.

His Idea can never be caged.

Why?

You cannot cage an idea whose time has come.

Sowore is unconstitutionally and unlawfully detained for calling out deadly incompetence of the government of Buhari

Not even the Judiciary is spared this spread of deadly incompetence.
Here’s the thing.

This level of Incompetence is too costly and unsustainable.

It is painful that Sowore bears the brunt of the collective dissatisfaction of the Citizens of Nigerians toward a grossly incompetent and intolerant.

chidima2019:
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to influence the selection of Supreme Court justices who would sit on the appeal panel filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Also, a coalition of Civil Society organisations, the Nigeria Centre for Justice and Rule of Law (NCJRL), accused the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, of shopping for willing justices who would hear the appeal. At a press conference yesterday, CUPP spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, said the coalition has intercepted a secret list of a seven-man panel of the Justices of Supreme Court about to be announced by the CJN who would sit on the appeal. According to him, the plan was to jettison the agelong tradition of selecting the members of the panel in the order of seniority.

“Since the 1979 presidential election, the first presidential election in Nigeria, the tradition in the Supreme Court has been that the seven most senior justices of the Supreme Court are empanelled for the purpose of determining the presidential election appeal,” Ugochinyere noted. He listed the seven most senior justices and their year of appointment to include the CJN, Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed (2006), Bode Rhodes-Vivour (2010), Nwali Sylvester Ngwuta (2011), Mary Odili (2011), Olukayode Ariwoola (2011), Musa Datijo Mohammad (2012) and Kumayi Bayang Akaahs (2012). He alleged that the CJN wants to deviate from the tradition and replace some of the justices with their juniors. According to him, the list CUPP intercepted showed that the panel that would hear Atiku’s appeal is made up of the CJN, Rhodes-Vivour, Datijo Mohammed, John Inyang Okoro who was appointed in 2013, China Centus Nweze (2016), Aminu Adamu Augie (2016), and Uwani Dauda Bags (2018).

IamHeWrites:
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, received the leadership of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, Igbere TV reports.

Our State House correspondent reports that the delegation, which were drawn from Nigeria and other West African countries, were received at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking on the closure of the Nigerian border, President Buhari said the aim was to put an end to smuggling and dumping of substandard items from other countries into Nigeria.

He lamented the impact of fake drugs and foods on the Nigerian citizens, including how fake electrical items have led to fires in homes and loss of lives and property.

The president said since the border was shut, Nigeria has witnessed a significant drop in the volumes of counterfeit smuggled goods in Nigerian markets.

Buhari, who was conferred with "Grand Patron" of the association by the delegates, equally used the opportunity to thank the NACCIMA for the honour.

Read the full statement posted on his verified Twitter handle, @MBuhari, as obtained by Igbere TV.

Today I met with a delegation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry from Nigeria and West Africa. I assured them of our administration’s readiness to work with them to bring an end to smuggling and the dumping of substandard items in West Africa and on the continent.

It is regrettable there there are traders who simply do not play by the rules; who choose profits over patriotism, and
whose selfish practices in perpetrating smuggling and counterfeiting help keep foreign factories working while closing ours.

We have all heard stories about the dangerous and sometimes, fatal impact of fake drugs and foods on our citizens. We have also seen how fake electrical items have led to fires in homes and markets thereby destroying lives and property.

Most of these substandard and illegal items are smuggled through our land borders. After many years of diplomacy and aggressive regulatory oversight which yielded few results, we decided to close our land borders for a limited time to assess the impact of this measure.

Within a few short weeks since the partial border closures began, we are already seeing a decline in the volumes of counterfeit smuggled goods in some of our major markets across the country.

This validates our action as a Government when we insist that the African Continental Free Trade Agreement must not only promote free trade, but legal trade of quality made-in-Africa goods and services.

We will soon finalise the National Action Committee on the implementation of the AfCFTA. We expect the organized private sector to continue to support us in achieving a Free Trade Area that employs Africans to produce high-quality made-in-Africa products.

Let me also thank NACCIMA for the honour done to me with the investiture today as their Grand Patron. I will not let them down. Trade is central to our economy; we are a nation of traders, and have been for centuries. I will ensure that we continue to give the sector full support.

Drug Test Imminent For New Applicants In Delsu

The management of the Delta State University maybe taking imminient steps to ensure a drug free learning environment. The management headed by the VC, Prof. VF Peretomode has commissioned all newly admitted applicants under the 2019/2020 academic session to be tested for drugs. This will help to clean the school of the plague parading herself as drug addiction amongst youths all the nation.

While this order is in effects, steps are also being taken to drive effective drug test in all faculty of the institute. The VC charged the students to shun drug misuse as depicted on the school official guide(Delsu Guide). Any applicants tested positive for drug intake will be dropped immediately.

Recall that Uniben conducted a drug test during her screening last year. Other schools are adopting this step to build a drug free nation.

Pythons may be considered dangerous the world over, but in Idemili area of Anambra State, Igbo Land, Nigeria, people honour pythons so much that it is a taboo to harm or kill one. Pythons are called Eke Idemili, which literarily means ‘python of Idemili’.

Idemili people are known to gently entreat a Python that has entered their house to come out, rather than try to kill it.

What happens if you decide to kill one to see what will happen? The community where the python was killed will force you to accord the snake a befitting burial like that of human being.

You will have to buy coffin, bags of rice, cow/goat, rent canopies and chairs, pay for local canon to be shot and other expenses.

Those that are fools are many. But if all of us are fools as you said you need to be on hospital admission for mental evaluation by now....... Buhari’s victory: SANs hail Tribunal’s verdict
by Alao Abiodun — 7 hours ago
Senior lawyers on Wednesday praised the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which affirmed President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory at the February 23 presidential election.
They said the judgment was unimpeachable and that the petitioners had only themselves to blame.
Those who spoke include Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) Robert Clarke, Femi Falana and Rotimi Jacobs.
The Tribunal dismissed in its entirety the March 18 petition by Atiku and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenging INEC’s declaration that Buhari won.
It said it came to an inevitable conclusion that the petitioners did not prove any of the grounds of the petition as known by law and consequently discarded the petition in its entirety.
“And the petition is hereby dismissed in its entirety,” lead judge, Mohammed Garba said.
Clarke agreed with the Tribunal.
Read Also: Tribunal declares Buhari ‘eminently qualified’ to contest
He said the petitioners failed to show why Atiku of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) should have been declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The petitioners failed woefully to prove their case,” Clarke said.
He praised the tribunal for clarifying the Buhari certificate saga.
According to him the PDP’s star witness that was supposed to prove that INEC transmitted results via a server, was unconvincing.
Clarke said: “…They have an array of lawyers there. Why should they bring a man as their sole witness to talk about server when he knows nothing about it? That is their point, but they have to pay the price.
“Secondly, on the question of certificate, the Constitution says you either have a certificate or you have attained certain training. Buhari went to the army and came out as a General. The school, even if nobody brought any evidence, the military (evidence) that was produced at the Tribunal was enough to indicate that he went to school, he sat for an exam and he entered an institution that was higher than a school certificate and he came out as a General. So, don’t let us beat about the bush. They have failed. It is their fault and they have to live with it.”
Falana also agreed with the judgment.
He said: “As far as the Nigerian electoral jurisprudence is concerned the judgment… is sound and unimpeachable.
“In Buhari v Obasanjo the Supreme Court pointed out that it is virtually impossible to annul a presidential election in Nigeria. For 16 years the PDP didn’t allow any serious electoral reform.
“The findings of the Court on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s nationality and Alhaji Buhari’s qualification to contest the election tally with the provisions of the Constitution.
“Since President Buhari has said that the victory belongs to the Nigerian people, then the federal government should be retrieved from western and Chinese imperialism and manned by the genuine representatives of the Nigerian people.
“Furthermore, the Buhari administration should implement the recommendations of the Uwais, Lemu and Nnamani panels on electoral reforms.”
For Rotimi Jacobs SAN, the “judiciary has done well.”
“It has, within the shortest possible time, within the time allocated, the tribunal was able to sit within the period, made sacrifices, not going on holidays despite the fact that the period fell within the annual vacation of judges, they made the sacrifice and didn’t go for the holidays.
“It’s good for us, we were able to see the end of the case, now, either party is at liberty to appeal to the next level, which is the Supreme Court. So, I think it is good for us, at least some areas we were in doubt were clarified, particularly as to transmission of results by server. That has been resolved. “
He added: “I’m looking forward to a situation where elections will no longer be challenged in court. That is where other countries are leaning towards. It shouldn’t be that after every election, courts will be flooded with election petitions. It is not good for our development.”

De javu. History repeating itself.
Atiku lawyers should be charged by EFCC for scamming him.
No body born of a woman will challenge presidential election in Nigeria and Win.Never ever.In the case of Buhari vrs Obasanjo the apex court held that it is impossible to win presidential election matter because of the Nigerian jurisprudence on presidential election matters.

Alhaji Buba Galadima, a spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections, on Wednesday said Nigerians have been thrown into a mourning mood following the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Tribunal.

Galadima, who spoke on Channels Television, said many Nigerians believed they have been robbed.
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal had held that Atiku Abubakar and the PDP had failed to discharge the burden of proof of the allegation of non-qualification of President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the February 23 general election.

Atiku had told the tribunal to nullify Buhari’s election and declare him the authentic winner of the election.
But delivering judgment, Justice Mohammed Garba, held that evidence before the court shows that Buhari won the election.

. Nobody is mourning! You may be mourning with your family. I l watched the judgement live yesterday from the beginning to the end because I was interested in the case and what the outcome would be.The judges diligently. and painstakingly examined all the issues on ground and determined them accordingly... The PDP lawyers themselves knew they would lose the case but as expected they would make their daily bread. The judgement was fair unbiased and explanatory.. The supreme court will never set it aside but use it as the basis for their judgement....As I said on this platform nobody who is an appellant can win at the PEPT.The scope of coverage is wide and evidences must be strong enough to overturn the election results. Kudos to the judges for their brilliance in justice dispensation.

CGMedia:
Lawyers have started arriving the Court of Appeal in Abuja, venue of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, as the tribunal set to deliver judgment today, Igbere TV reports.

Our correspondent at the venue observed that several journalists and supporters of both parties involved (APC and PDP), have equally gathered at the door of the court hall, waiting for staff to open it.

There is heavy security presence (comprising of army, police, NSCDC) at the court premises, even as security operatives are taking their time to screen people seeking access to the court.

The tribunal is expected to resume at 9am as they decide the fate of PDP and its candidate Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC over the February 23 presidential election.

Igbere TV recalls that INEC had declared Buhari and the APC as winner of the election, having polled a total of 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival, Atiku, who it said polled a total of 11,262,978 votes.

The five-man panel of justices of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, is headed by Justice Mohammed Garba, as Chairman.
