So I have this American patient who I recently came across. He's a fat dude who is like in his late 40s but has a very jolly and likeable character. I introduced myself and we got talking afterwards.

After a while of chitchat, he asked me where I was from. I told him to take a guess and he said said, you sound like you're Nigerian. I told him (regrettably) that I was Nigerian. He started smiling and told me that he had a Nigerian girlfriend and that we both had similar accents.

He then started telling me recent occurrences that had befallen his girlfriend in Nigeria. He said the lastest story was that she was in Abuja and as she was on her way to the airport in a taxi, the taxi had an accident and she was seriously injured and had to be rushed to the hospital. He said that the hospital demanded money before treatment started and he had to hustle about $4000 and send to her in order for treatment to start.

He said that after a week of her being in the hospital, they wanted to discharge her despite her still being in pain. Because she had exhausted all the $4000 on treatment, he said the hospital had threatened to discharge her on the streets and he was trying to borrow more money to see if he could send it to her so they could continue with her treatments.

He furthermore told me that the girlfriend said that she was a Nigerian American citizen who was currently stuck in Nigeria due to her passport having expired and also due to Covid lockdown at airports in Nigeria. He said she had asked him for $300 to renew her US passport from American embassy in Nigeria.

Another thing that he told me was that just before covid struck, there was a similar pandemic which happened in Nigeria early this year and that his girlfriend had contracted the disease and he had to send her $2000 for treatment. Right now he said he's broke but is waiting for like $2000 disability check from the US government next week which he will send to her as soon as the money clears.

As he was telling me this tale, I was so angry with Nigerians and how they take advantage of people in love to scam them. I wanted to swear for the scammers


I'm at a dilemma here. Do I tell him that he's being scammed by Nigerians or do I continue to be professional and just ignore it. Because I don't want him to think I'm involved with it because these oyinbo people can turn everything on your head and accuse you that is your people in conjunction with you that are scamming him. They are that crazy.

The good part of me wants to help him but I'm hesitant that it may turn out bad for me. Please matured responses.

Most people forget that some of this countries have gone thru very tough times before they got to where they are,do u know how Germany was after the 2nd war,they rose up to build their economy.you think they are happy to see foreigners come to enjoy what they laboured for.The bond in EU is very strong,Africans are not United,we complain of Nigeria,we ar yet to see other African countries .the western world are happy to see Africa underdeveloped, and African youth migrating to do odd jobs in europe and America,.no place like home ,make money and go back to develop your country.the sacrifice we make today is for our children not to be slaves to western world tomorrow

You see, I know that I have a strong connection with my home...that's why I may not be able to live elsewhere.

I think you people tend to lay emphasis on the positive aspects of living in the advanced countries while you downplay the downsides.

Sincerely, I love this country, and I don't want to live in a place where someone will have to constantly disrespect me because of my skin color or how our leaders have messed up our country.

I want to carry a passport that immigration officers from around the world would have some regards for.

If we all run away from this country, who will fix it? The place we are all running to, some people sacrificed their blood, time, resources and sweat to make it the envy of all.

Like I always tell people, the richest Nigerians live in Nigeria.

I think marriage shud be free from all form of interference,at an early age,couples shud be allowed to be alone irrespective of whatever the mother has done for him,he can still take care of her and she can always visit him anytime.when a third party is involved in marriage,there is bound to be clashes.like the wife not doing things to mother's standard.so it's better to avoid such,if the woman is not comfortable with the mother staying with them,she can even end the relationship and look for another person ,am a guy and won't support my inlaw coming to stay for long when marriage just start.asuming the woman self come say make her own mum come and stay ,is it not confusion,in-laws can come and visit, but to sit down permanent,no way lol

I am talking based on wisdom and experience am not a social media bully, troll or warrior.
Am married and if you are, am older than you in marriage.
He staying with the mother or the mother staying with him is not an issue.
If you had said he does not have a trade or does not earn an income that would have been different but staying with the mum not an issue at all.
You don’t know what they might have gone through together .

I will support your advise on the coaching aspect,when I was at higher institution ,at every school break .I go round my area ,looking for coaching centers,looking for any center that will take me as a teacher .I taught primary school student ,I thought secondary school student,physics,maths and sciences.i was never idle,when I was at the University,I made photocopy for students .I gathered past questions compiled it and sold to my mates ,I gathered past questions even for people in various departments and when ever people needed past question,they looked for me .I did this to survive ,I wished I never had to Hussle that way ,this hustling spirit made people to identify with me .once you are determined ,things will come to you easily.i go out daily when I was young to look for jobs .most niherians are without any skill,look for skill to acquire .if you don't have money to acquire skills ,look for people who can invest in your life by providing you with money to get skills .discuss what you want to achieve with positive people who can help.i am over 30 years and I am still hustling ,even sometimes I get broke despite not living in naija .even the rich get broke lol.there is no problem in being broke but remaining perpetually broke is the problem lol






As much as I can relate to your story,I feel yours is even better than mine.What are the solutions you need?1-You need to start talking to your elder brother who you said is quite okay.2-Try and be engaged with something:If you're bright,coaching a subject you're good at will help.3-Mend your ways with God too.I am telling you mine is more pathetic and I am still managing to live.

pathetic story,you want to give up at the age of 23 .quiet funny .As far as you are living ,there is hope .Nigerians love to make it quick,patience and hard work is the key.There is depression everywhere ,not only in naija .I believe you think you have not achieved much at the age of 23,.life is useless when you have not identified your PURPOSE.every body has a purpose in life.Your purpose may just be to help people .doing this things gives you joy even when you don't have money in pocket.i think you should get yourself busy,when one is idle ,the devil brings lots of thought of how useless you are.i don't know what you are studying in school but try to look at skills that accompany your course of study.if you are an engineering student ,learn cad .if accounting ,learn related software ,get skills that will prepare you for the future .this is the time to prepare for the future and not time to start thinking of what your mate have achieved .it's possible to overtake those who have passed you.i will also advice you to write down what you want to become in life and pencil out how you intend getting to your target .assess where you are now and determine where you want to be .meet with people ,try to meet people who are successful,let them be your friends and don't be ashamed to tell them you want to learn from them.you can get some skills as a student ,are you good in Microsoft,u can Help people with typing of projects at leisure time and get money.u can also learn some computer skills to get money .I see you as still young ,and the problem in Nigeria is people rush education.i hope you are encouraged in one way or the other .there is no short cut in life ,Nigerians Generally love short cuts ,want to make it fast ,without hard work and preparations

I regret my past daily. I think about it all the time but it does me no good. I have accepted my fate and moved on but like they say the evil that men do surely lives with tgem
I'm suffering from the consequences of what I brought upon myself and pray life gets better for me.

I don't think you know children can manipulate parents with crying ,they use cry as a weapon to get things and have their way.a child wants something and he just start to cry for no reason.i live in a country where I wish ,I can give my child some little spanking ,but of course once in a while ,some slight spanking on the buttocks.not with cane,unless I wan enter wahala.its good to give children some sort of discipline but not to the extreme of living marks and scars on the body.You correct the child and also show some love to balance up.i don't see anything wrong in the video,if you see what children abroad do to their parents ,u will never want to train your child or copy their ways of bringing up a kid.anyway ,a child that wants to spoil will spoil wether with cane or no cane,training a child requires wisdom ,u apply punishment where necessary and not all the time .just my thought

Nairalanders, I'm about to do something my conscience doesn't agree with but it feels like the right decision to make. I have a boyfriend. We've been dating for the past 6 months. I love him. We were good friends before we started dating. I'm someone who doesn't trust easily and I like to assess a guy for a while before dating him. I assessed his intentions and I realised he didn't just want to have sex with me and leave. He loved me just as I loved him.

Three months ago I met this guy. At first I just saw him as a friend, but as I got to know him I started noticing the good qualities he possessed. He's very attractive, very intelligent and wellspoken. My conversations with him were so immersive. The little time I spent with him always left a profound impression on me. Soon I noticed I had started developing feelings for him. I was still in love with my boyfriend nevertheless.

One day the new guy asked me if I had a boyfriend. I told him I did. The next day he called me and said that he didn't want to interfere with my relationship. He said he had feelings for me and he couldn't remain friends with me when he knows I have a boyfriend. I told him that I had feelings for him as well and that we could still remain friends but he refused and suggested that we stopped talking. He hasn't called or texted me since that day.

This situation has left me in an emotional turmoil. This new guy represents everything I want in a guy and as much as I don't want to admit it, he possesses better qualities than my boyfriend. I can't imagine a life where I can't talk to him anymore. I really like him. His decision has left me in a dicey position. It's unfair to leave my boyfriend who has always been nice to me for someone else, but the new guy doesn't want to have anything to do with me again as long as I'm in a relationship.

Please I need advice. I don't want to make the wrong decision.

Like someone said up there, block them and maybe after 3 months or 6 months if you feel like sending them cash, unblock them send whatever you're capable of then block them back..

I know you're the generous type, just send whatever you're capable of, don't let them dictate to you, it's because you're sending them money frequently that's why they ain't working

Well I live in the U. S and I understand this situation very well. You should see a common trend among all these cases. The husband has invested so much in not only bringing the wife here (flights, visas, exams, accommodation etc) but also paying for her school etc. Nursing school is minimum of two years and runs into tens of thousands of dollars. That is years of slaving to invest in someone's education and the benefit of the family while doing your taxi driver job or security guard job only for the person to change it up and start misbehaving once they believe they have arrived or have obtained their degree and are now well placed. You will never hear these women misbehaving while they are still in nursing school oooo and because they couldn't afford it ordinarily but only after! Schooling here is not cheap. Or how will you feel if you are the person that payed a so called wife's flight ticket then housed her for years paid all her bills up to the last penny. Even went ahead to pay her schooling, money for extra lessons etc. Only for her to graduate and then try to take your house and your property because she is learning the "abroad way" from her so called good for nothing "feminist liberated" friends. Not to consider the emotional trauma. It's enuff to shoot that person in the head. People are killed for way much less on the streets. An American husband will never pay for anything talk less of school tuition. He will tell u to go take a loan. The least the lady in question should do is pay back all the money spent on her and her schooling with interest if she is planning to leave. Now to go ahead and be trying to take over that person's property? We all know how the law is in the west under situations like this. I'm sorry to say it and I wouldn't ever support murder but the reason that these women are killed is very evident.

if u have a college degree(university degree) in the US u are more better paid than the ones who graduated from high school.Many americans have the desire of going to college but then going to college in the US is quite expensive even for the average american except he or she gets a scholarship.An american parent who has a big business of his own but wasnt lucky to have a college education would want his son or dauther to get a college education so when he or she graduates and maybe the parent retires he or she can take over the business and hjis or her education can improve on the business.

Getting education does not have to be through university.the problem in Nigeria is everybody wants to go to university.we have so much universities and so much universities graduates but little job.we blame government for everything,most of the things taught in the university are out of date.i am not saying university degrees are bad but d most important thing is for everyone to add some skills to the degree,if you are an engineer,u need to know have some skills in addition to your degree,gather experrience ,money comes later .in Nigeria ,it's money first .in the civilized world ,education is continuous and people keep training and retraining even after finishing university.imaginr sombody in Nigeria finished university about 10 years ago,no further training and still calls himself a graduate.lots if things have changed and new technology are coming up,new softwares and the Nigerian youth must update themselve with the world events.the government can't provide all the jobs for people.Abroad,the government only provide basic amenities,they are not the major employers ,we shud not be shouting bad government up and down but rise up to help outself by ensuring we vote good people who can give us a favourable environment for business,provide capital and loans for graduates to start business








Education remains the best bet out of poverty. Education opens up more opportunities for you and give you more options.

Of course, that doesn't mean you won't hustle hard when you need to.

I paid N200k equivalent every month as rent while living overseas ( US to be precise)and that was btw mid and late 2000s. My friends back home were paying half of that yearly in a fairly good location in lagos as rent. No place like Nigeria. He would would live large with that money and package as a single guy.
