You guys don't get where I'm coming from, everyone knows J.Cole is more talented.
But you forget that people will crown whoever they want in a rap battle. . . especially when more people will obviously listen to Drake.
What will J.Cole talk about . . . 'you're a singer, you're a wack rapper, and then the usual 'I stick my dick in your mouth eff what you say' type rhymes . . . but Drake on the other hand doesn't need to talk much, he'll Jay-Z the whole thing.

'I'm more famous, my reality is brighter than your dreams are, I sold your whole discography's numbers with my mixtape, and all the girls love me'. . . and he goes on to get more views on Youtube and a more successful career because he'll add battle rapper to his CV that already has platinum selling rapper, actor, successful singer, most popular man in the world right now.

J.Cole on the other hand loses half the fans he got from signing to Roc Nation . . . goes on to be that guy that gets dropped after one contract.
He's a mainstream rapper now, the rules are different, rap beef is chess and not wrestling.

Some people will not agree that hiphop has evolved, there's a limit to how many uncreative gangster stories we can stomach.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but at one point in time people will definitely get bored, diversity is the only thing that's made hiphop last this long.
Blueprint 2, Jay-Z was saying he wasn't going to ever get his doorag off, Blueprint 3, he's all 'white Louis boat shoes' . . . and you wonder why he's more successful than any other rap artiste?? There's a reason why he has 8-10 super-producers on his albums, he respects the fact that to some people, hiphop is just music and nothing else, to the others, it's lyrics and fuckall and sees the need to attend to both sides of the divide.

Just to add to that, hiphop would have died without the overtly commercial side to it, the MC Hammers, Young MCs and Lil Waynes actually sponsor this genre of music.
They're the reason why people like Nas and Common haven't been dropped yet by their respective record labels, they're the reason rap is on TV and radio, they're the reason all these rappers still get sponsored to produce albums, and the reason people outside black America can still get access to hiphop.

Now even if you disagree(which I don't see any reason to) with how hiphop's packaged these days, the big picture still shows that P. Diddy is that uncle that molested you as a kid but still paid your way through college.

I'd rather listen to Untitled than Relapse or Recovery.

I'd take Recovery over every of Nas' recent albums, maybe not Distant relatives. . . 2000s Nas' is a typical example of how not to make good albums.

Even at the risk of having the Asa fans raining abuses & curses on me, I gats say the first single off the album (Be my man) is just not it!!! The song is not deep, soulful or soothing like bibanke, 360, awe and other songs on her debut album and it's not something I can bump my head to either. The song na noise & complete miss road IMO.

Whoever adviced her to do this "afro haircut", "slim-fitted" shirt, tight "bell-bottomed" pants and big goggles, "shuffle-feet" dance "old-school" kinda song did not advice her right. . .and to think this is the first single off the album? I hope this track is not a sign of what to expect in the full album. Oh well!

I noticed that too . . . the fact that there are so many gbish gbim gbam beats in the song already rob it of it's Asaness.
The metallic instrumentals are for people that don't have a soulful voice. I even hated what they did with the Jailer in the album, I think she should do this and then release acoustic versions of all the songs.

She's the best Nigeria has to offer right now.

Forever Young is a pure rap song, and Jay-Z only gets to tour with people like Coldplay because he's famous enough.

Jay-Z never did anything with Fela on any album, it's a couple of producers playing around . . . Nas on the other hand did Warrior Song with African drums and Fela samples, Can't Forget About You with Nat King Cole samples, Bridging the Gap had the Country Music influences and you tell me he's not being experimenting??

He's been touring with a rock band since 2007 homie . . . he only just switched to Damian and K'naan recently.
My point is, it's not that Nas doesn't want to do it, he lacks the ability to . . . and in my own opinion that leaves him looking like the other 967 rappers out there.

Nas problem is beats. Niggas like Eldee can't stomach the Nas vibe. Too used to Kanye West cherry pop. As for me, I prefer 1990's Nas cos his choice of beats really suited his delivery back then.

As you noted, his delivery was so 90s and he tried to force it on the modern synth beats.

And his stories got played out because take it or leave it, not living in the hood finally catches up with you.
Then his poor attempts at commercial success too just made him look stupid . . . the whole N.I.G.G.E.R controversy, his subject matters became more and more shock value ridden, his delivery was not up to par with the rest of the industry.

This doesn't in anyway mean Nas got crap, it just means he lost whatever made him different from other rappers in my eyes.

25 To Life . . . my new favourite song on Recovery, this has to be the most underrated track on that album.
Every good rap album has the rapper flossing with his lyrical skills . . . like Nas did on Rewind and Hov did on D'evils, 25-to Life is Recovery's equivalent of that.

He describes hiphop as a woman, his girlfriend that looks down on him and plays him. . . and the metaphors just leave you confused for a second.
The first verse where he went. . . 'Imma take control of this relationship command it, and imma be the boss of you now' . . . 'Look at how I dress bleeping baggy sweats' . . . he has to wear the whole rapper costume when he performs.

Eminem is easily the best rapper alive . . . 'But you keep treating me like a staircase its time to bleeping step' prolly talking about how hiphop stays famous with white America and Europe because of Eminem.
