PoliticsRe: Pictures Of Ongoing Projects In Ogun State by emiye(m): 1:36pm On Dec 05, 2012
In its effort towards sanitizing the education sector of the state, the Ogun State Government on Wednesday suspended the services of no fewer than 1,024 teachers for allegedly engaging in fraudulent and irregular activities like forgery and manipulation of credentials. The suspension is with immediate effect.

Few weeks ago, the state government engaged all its 6,531 teachers in a screening exercise conducted by CITC Consulting firm, which verified the statement of results and attestation letters from over 50 higher institutions across the country submitted by the teachers.

The firm’s final report which lead to the suspension revealed that 475 teachers possessed forged certificates and did not have their attestation letters confirmed by the originating institutions.

Furthermore, 274 were suspended for not appearing for the screening exercise, 236 for being totally unqualified, 12 for exceeding statutory length of service, and 11 for age discrepancies.

It was also discovered that 14 deceased teachers were still being paid salaries while 2 others were impostors.

Reacting to the suspension, the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Mufutau Ajibola said the suspension takes immediate effect pending formal determination of their cases by the panel established in the Office of the Head of Service.

Ajibola noted that the board is compiling documents to be presented to the State Police Command for possible criminal prosecution of those indicted during the exercise.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Segun Odubela had earlier said thus “ all our investments to provide affordable quality education will only yield result if we have well qualified and motivated teachers in our classrooms.”

Odubela affirmed that the exercise was about quality assurance on human capital.

abrat: I did not say sack, the teachers were suspended! dude.

By the way, of all the points raised so far; are u saying there are enough medical staffs (nurses &midwives) or Amosun did not impose candidates on pple during primaries & LG election? The 2000+ He sacked, are u saying all of them posses fake certificates? or loyal to Daniel? For God's sake, Aremo Olusegun Osoba (my sure father) employed workers some weeks to the end of his tenure & Daniel did not sack them. Go & check history if u are new in Ogun state. We voted for him (sacked workers inclussive) because pple actually wanted a change. He now thinks He is the Mesiah of Ogun State? He should remember those suspended has pple they feed. We'll keep our fingers crossed till 2015.

I don't think I should be discussing this with u anyways! A gov. that refuse to listen. AGIDI OWU.
Are you part of the sacked 2000 workers ? Daniel hurriedly employed 2000 workers a month to the end of his tenure.
Ogun state govt. asked those sacked to re apply, and those with the right credentials were re-absorbed. So what is the noise ? 1000 teachers with high possibility of fake certificates, you want those criminals to remain in the system as role models and teachers of school children ?

rampant lover: An idiot with no cell brain in his fractured skull is saying there are no SA Universities in the list because they are in their own class. If the top ten universities in the list should be from SA, then you have no choice but let it be as such because SA is part of Africa. So many lame fools in here who are just keyboard/pad happy. Happy to type without any iota of thinking. You want to ignore universities in SA even though you ranking top universities in Africa. Didn't you feel ashamed of yourself spewing that rubbish?
While students from across the continent continue to move abroad to study at leading learning institutions in the U.S. and Europe, Africa boasts its own league of great universities. Presented below is Part I of Africa.com’s Top 10 Universities in Africa. Part II will feature the Top 10 Universities in South Africa, a country that is home to enough academic heavyweights to populate its own list.”

Why is it difficult for you to read a write up of less than 10 lines?

The awardee has in its own wisdom exclude South African universities, and you are foaming in the mouth.

Part 2 of the next ranked universities will be top 10 universities in south AFrica, it is there staring you in the face, but you are so physically and intellectually lazy to read it. cry cry

gregg2: Fraud Fraud Fraud Fraud Fraud Fraud

A genuine ranking may not even place UNILAG in the top 20.
What about all the top class Universities in South Africa - Capetown, Pretoria etc?
If you read the article, south African universities were not considered , because they were in the class of there own and thus will be classified separately. If they had try to include them, all the top 10 universities will most likely be in South frica

You have done good by finding out and saying the truth.

I told you to find out who created VIO, cause i felt you need to start exercising your latent objectivity skills.

You have another assignment, (1) Find out who owns the badagry road( Is it a federal road? OR Lagos state road? or local government road?), the bad road where a container fell from a truck and crushed the car and the occupants

(2) Find out if the Lagos state government is at the moment doing anything on that road also.
PoliticsRe: My Nigeria Experience by emiye(m): 11:35am On Nov 29, 2012
@ Op , you have made good observations, but lack objectivity. Nigeria's biggest hindrance to fast pace development is the structure of governance & democracy ...

I laugh when people talk about travelling to big international cities and comparing to a places in nigeria like lagos, and make disparaging remarks about homebased Nigerians as mediocres for applauding the state administrator.

Where is your objectivity ?

Do they have the same resources?, Do they have the same challenges ?

Lagos State with a population of 18 million has a budget of less than 500 billion naira in 2012 budget.

Capetown with a population of 3.5 million has a budget of over 550 billion naira in 2012/2013 budget.

South Africa with a population of 60 million has a budget of over 20 trillion naira in 2012/2013 budget.

Nigeria with a population of 170 million has a budget of less than 5 trillion naira in 2013 budget.

Until we change from our banana republic , by changing the structure we are currently operating with, and have TRUE FEDERALISM, the real potential of the country will remain latent. The structural change should be what all Nigerians should be clamoring for, not self centred and myopic state creation.

Sincere 9gerian: I do not intend to malign the Lagos state govt but to point out the HYPOCRISY and CONTRADICTIONS in the assessments of public office holders.
The Lagos light rail system was commenced by the Jakande govt in the early 80's but the project was unfortunately terminated by Buhari after the coup of 1983. The project was re-started in this 4th republic but after Tinubu's 8yrs rule and Fashola's 5yrs rule, the project is yet to be completed. A light rail system within a small and resource rich state like Lagos cannot be completed in 13yrs? This is a CATASTROPHE. But it is explicable to the ACN fanatics, yet they CRUCIFY GEJ for according to them "failing to fix all sectors" within 2 to 3yrs
Hey !, At the end of the current tenure of the ACN governor, Lagos will still have bad roads and slums.... FACT.
Does that mean the LASG has failed? NO.

What you watch out for to assess performance is RATE OF IMPROVEMENT.

Paul John: You're right about the wrong generalization.
You should also understand that the capital is the representation of any state/region or a nation. It's what the capital looks like that is been interpreted as the identity of the state. I'll say Akwa Ibom is beautiful, since what is presented as her capital is.

Going by your post, Abuja is not beautiful since more than 60% of the territory is still indecent. What matters is the what represents her.
i disagree as regards the boldened part of your statement, other places matters.

Ajimobi might have a seemingly slow start, the end will justify the means. he is way different and better than the akalas and ladojas. The monthly 18,000 minimum wage payment for state workers means he uses 92% of average of 4.5 biliion naira (monthly fed. Allocation + IGR )to pay salaries. Paltry 8% of 4.5 billion naira monthly is what is left for governance. He has started working on improving the state Monthly IGR of roughly 1.3 billion to 5 billion by next year. I know of many construction projects awarded in ibadan, but work has yet to start. The bond optiön is what he has toed for now. At the end of his 4 years, no excuse wil be tenable if he fails to perform

Anybody who wants GEJ to fail is an enemy of progress, though i didnt vote for him, it is important as nigerians we are objective in critiquing a govt. Enough of looking at things with the goggle of a party or tribe. If the repair works cost 1billion naira for that scope of work(replacement of 8 expansion joints). Have nigerians not been shortchangedhuh
PoliticsRe: FG Reopens 3rd Mainland Bridge Today by emiye(m): 10:50pm On Oct 30, 2012
Itohen: The Federal Government will today (Tuesday) reopen the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, one week ahead of the scheduled delivery date of November 6, 2012.

The government had partially closed the bridge on July 7 to enable the contractor, Messrs Boroni Prono and Company Limited, to replace eight expansion joints on the bridge for a contract sum of N1bn.

The reopening of the bridge will come as a welcome relief to motorists and commuters, who have had to connect Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah and Epe from different parts of the mainland through Western Avenue due to restriction of vehicular movement on the bridge from 12 noon to 12am, while opening for movement to the mainland within the same time.

The Special Adviser to the Minister of Works on Media, Mr. Tony Ikpasaja, confirmed the reopening of the bridge in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Monday.

According to him, the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, will open the rehabilitated bridge to motorists at a ceremony that will also have in attendance federal and Lagos State government officials and other stakeholders.

Onolememen had said during an inspection tour of the bridge on August 10, “The inspection visit is to track the progress that the contractor has made; whether actual progress is in line with our planned programme. I am happy to announce that the physical progress in not only in line with our programme, but there has been a gain of approximately one week, which is very commendable.

“It means that if we sustain the momentum, we will be able to deliver the project ahead of the scheduled delivery date of November 6, 2012.”

He had explained that the Federal Government decided to rehabilitate the bridge, which is the longest and most travelled in the country, because of its commitment to giving due attention to infrastructure in Lagos State, which he said was attracting about 53 per cent of commercial activities in the country.

As parts of efforts to minimise the disruptions to free flow of traffic in the metropolis, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority had deployed 700 officers to the bridge and traffic points on the alternative routes.

Officers of the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Federal Road Safety Corps and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps joined their LASTMA colleagues in managing the attendant traffic.
