I don't know if I should be angry or just smile and take it as it is. This is someone that I fed, I clothed despite us being closed friends since we were kids. He knows everything about me that my parents don't even know till dates..We could go to a gathering together and I will be the one ordering and paying for everything we bought even recently because I always acted like the big bro and he accepted I guess .. Just last week I saw it on his status about is house opening invite. I later got a dm from him that same evening telling me about it that I should come through.

It came as a surprise I admit, even though I know he was doing quite well for himself. I know some will call it entitlement mentality but since I considered we were close like a brother we even ate from same plate last 2weeks, I thought I should have known atleast.

Note: I noticed so many people will come in here to call me names, even some accusing me to be someone with bad motives and sort I smile. Not everyone has a evil mindset like you or some persons you know, It's just that when you expect so much from people you hold very close to your heart you might get disappointed and it hurts badly.

My Regional Manager at a new generation Nigerian bank where I work relocated to Canada to work as post office clerk, just a clerk, not even supervisor or any senior position. £23,000 a year is just £1,917 pounds a month, how much is food, how much is house rent, furniture, fittings and electronics? How much is phone and phone bills? Car note and fuel? TV license? Gas for cooking and heat in winter? Clothes nko? NHS/Health care cost nko?


Based on current income tax system, personal allowance (which is annual income that isnt subject to any income tax) is set at a threshhold of £12,570. Anything above this to £50,270, the excess is subject to a 20% deductible income tax.

So by simple maths £23,000 - £12,570 = £10,430

20% of £10,430 is £2,086, so his annual income tax out of that £23,000 a year is £2,086. Which means his annual income after they deduct income tax is £20,914. That is £1,742 a month......

We have not deducted NHS and other deductible taxes from that £1,742, we haven't touched on your personal bills and utilities......

Anybody, earning £1,917 monthly before taxes is considered low income, anybody that earns £1,917 monthly before taxes that supports a family is considered poor in the UK!!

At #6,000,000 a year in Nigeria Sir, you are not poor. If they paid you that #6,000,000 here in a year, you are more than capable to live a comfortable life, dress well, buy a good used car, raise a family, send your kids to reasonably good schools and if you manage money well, build a house in one remote area to retire to as a pensioneer.

Try and achieve the same feat in the UK on £23,000 a year whether you no go jam rock!

I think I earned less than £23k when I bought my 1st house in the UK.however.Even today I have seen people buying thier own home with £20k salary.Everyone must not live inside London.
As for the N6m u quoted .you realy think that big money right?I can tell U it all depends on your standard of living..some persons earn less but they know how to live.My Dad drives a 3.7ltr suv his fuel bill as things stands is roughly N120k that's to work n back in a month.if U add social and other commute this can easily raise to N150k.then Gen?then U talk food and tkt to do health check in the UK 2 times a year.what I'm trying to say here is simple big man big problem.a typical civil servant can easily spend 80% of his salary on Cost of living and No savings. As for tax.Do you ever wonder why you are always ask Salary b4 tax or deductionsimple cos there is not one. Blanket tax %. In the UK we have Tax Code.this is what the tax man use to tax us.we might earn same salary but taxed different. Ie Age is a factor.mariage is another factor. Deductions like student loans other incomes ie side hustle or other employments etc are factors.there is a shyte loads of variables. I actually earn more than my basic pay cos of Primum pay aka overtime.
We also earn tax free pay as well ie my car has business insurance cos I use it to commute to a different place of work.Now I. An claim up to 60p per mile.I can clame up to £25 for lunch and claim up to £150 per night for hotel accommodation or bread and breakfast all tax free..I get paid Unsocialable allowance if I work nights .as I work overtime I generate holiday pay which is taxable and paid with my salary. The tax system is very complex in the UK U need to live earn here to understand a fraction of it..
