We don't see how that amounts to N800,000 You said you are quoting me, where did you pluck 20 hours from then? plus I told you minimum, who amongst us work at minimum wage as a student? come o n wisen up! |

Many phd students in uk are springing up start ups here and there. is only nigerians that always think of buying and selling but forget that a business is supposed to solve problems. Infact you need a phd to open up your brains to ideas and opportunities where people cannot see. ofcos 9ja nah so so buying and selling, if U chk more than 60% belong to this school of thought Business, its only in Nigeria you find people who cannot even manage to deliver on an errand saying they are looking 4 money to start a business! |

obstead200: aunty, u are not being realistic. Maybe u are one of those silverspoon fed kids who are guaranteed a job placement back here in Naija. Or u are just schooling for the fun of it.(maybe because Ur husband wants a wife with a PhD).
Now listen, to be realistic, a PhD is basically a means to an end. And the end is simply more money.
So, for me, I can't spend that amount on any PhD except I have a position locked down waiting for me to step into as soon as I am done. Or unless I am very sure of getting a job placement in that foreign land as soon as I am done. If not, then the only way I can undertake such a PhD is through scholarship.
Trust me, PhD is research based. Which means u can do it anywhere, as long as u are willing to do the donkey work, u will still turn out a wonderful research and contribute greatly to the body of knowledge. I however, had to admit that research is easier over there in UK cos u have access to prime data sources, premium online libraries and current methodologies. where can U research the origin of electrostatic Energy Electromagnetism in Nigeria as an aspiring PhD holder in Elect Elect? Sometimes I just wonder how some of us reason! |

niyogeol: But a student can't work 60 hours a week now. Especially during school term. Believe me, working 60 hours a week doesn't come cheap. In most cases you have to combine two jobs or more which also increases your tax burdens. As most job can't afford to give you such hours as it might warrant overtime payment which they are not ready to pay.
Las las, na body dey hear am from this jacky jobs. Not sustainable if you ask me. So in the real sense of this conversation without derailing the original poster's thread, such money you have quoted can't be earned by a student while studying except you abandon your study to work full time which will violate the terms of the person's visa. aome jobs run 24 hours so you cover your bits, and yest it would violate ur student visa, but like everything in teh Uk, what happens in teh Uk stays in the Uk, nah ogboni meeting nor B everything we go talk on line, if you check this link you will have an idea how good the uk schools are https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Research--Policy/Statistics/International-student-statistics-UK-higher-educationlast last, to hustle abroad mean ur brain must work at high frequency at all time even wen U r asleep, |

If he does 8 hours per week and earns minimum wage of £8.21/hour, that will barely cover his transport to and from work/Uni, rent and feeding for the month. DO you really believe people do only 8 hrs per week?do you know how many students are in the construction industry? |

niyogeol: I want to assume you live or have lived abroad? If yes, can you kindly enumerate the numbers? Stating minimum wage, hours worked, income after tax and cost of living.
To the best of my knowledge, wages in Europe are not as high as what is obtainable in North America, save for Mexico. For the UK in question, how much is the average entry pay for a graduate? Except for a few who earn big bucks working for USA companies in the UK or the oil industry.
I look forward to your figures. Cheers. to ur 1st question answer yes, I have lived and worked abroad, I cam here very young o utta Uni in 9ja The minimum wage as it stands is £8.21, this is what you are paid no matter what you do as far as you are above 25 anywhere in the Uk,Ths is the lowest pay even if you live in one Bush. people do an average of 8.5 hours a day some work 12 hours my 9ja people . so most cleaners do 60 hours a week or let me say odd jobs etc. |

niyogeol: Take it easy man. At the bolded above, how can a KP earn almost #800k which is about £1600 a month without labouring beyond normal especially given that study visa has work restrictions during school term? What is the the minimum wage? How many hours a week does the person work? Let us be realistic here and stop painting non existing mosaic.
Again, how do you compare someone having €100 in Europe to someone having #100m in Nigeria? Are you for real? Nigeria is not perfect regarding structure and functionality as a country but don't overreach on your assumptions. #100m is about £200,000! Please note that not everyone on this forum is ignorant or uneducated or perhaps not well travelled. kikero: Nigerian schools do still produce PhD's.
The problem is funding. Education budgets are usually in the region of 1-2 billion dollars US...to be shared among 70 universities, secondary schools and primary schools. (while foreign universities have spending budgets in the tens of billions...which means they can fund facilities for research, which attracts more private and public funding)
The problem is further compounded by fees being kept very low...$300 and below...(because we are an oil producing country)..which makes matters worse. @ the bolded was what I meant by not at grip with! Imagine an electrical Engineer wants to do PhD in 9ja uni, how are they gonna start in reality, my child who is 12 has already seen the original Michael faraday's generator some proff in 9ja just seen it in photos! |

Education is very good, but I advise my fellow citizens of Nigeria to invest heavily before venturing into further studies. This is one of the major problems in Nigeria, everybody wants to be a Businessman and think they can do Business, The business people in Nigeria are living in a false Economy cos once a while they suffer the negligence of others. If all business where to be regulated as per the initial basis of doing business, the vast majority of them will shut down! |

He advise one should pursue professional certificate courses instead of PhD. he is right, this was why I asked OP what he was doing now.if you go into it with the mind-set of earning higher, you are on your own but if it is to better yourself and gain ground a put up stuff that can be looked up to then you are good to go! |

Anyways, I currently hold a Master's degree and I also recently gained admission into a PhD program in a UK university but with no funding from the school and the estimated total cost of the tuition and living expenses amount to about #16 million for the 3 years.
So, I decided to come seek the opinion of folks here with better experience if it really worth spending this amount in the long run or should I rather invest this amount?
Thank you in advance! Question Master i n what Phd in waht? What is ur Job role at present? If You answer these three basic question a sure advice would be given here! |

Please as a matter of urgency, step in to resolve this. Well let me start it by stating the facts 1 My friend transferred N26k plus to Sunday's account vis AZIMO which Sunday confirmed 2 Sunday called my friend back to say the money was reversed back to my friend's account and whish the money paid back of which he sent screenshots cool 3 I informed my friend who I told to have a look and fish out the mistake 4 My friend looked at her bank account and told me that no money of such was returned to her btw (I and you know how AZIMO works) 5 Sunday still insisted teh money was paid back to my friend's account 6 My friend called AZIMO with the transaction code to find out what was going o n 7 AZIMO confirmed that the money was paid and Emailed Sunday's bank to confirm payment of transaction via their 3rd party partners in Nigeria which they AZIMO inturn 2warded the emails to my friend of which she in turn 4warded to Sunday, at this point, it was clear that the fault was from Nigeria, Sunday should go to his bank to sort it out armed with the two Emails my friend sent to him 8 I suggested that Sunday should go back to his bank and request them to give him details of transaction of the money returned and to which bank or account cos btw me and you you know if you wire money via 3rd party ie western Union or AZIMO no way the money can return to ur bank, These my friend is where we stand at the matter! Sunday have both copies of Emails and if you want I can 4ward it to you as well! |

I posted facts and pictures to support my assertions in this thread, you people should learn to do the same.
It is not by force to support and defend incompetent and mediocre governors, especially Wike. Your and the likes of you have a peculiar problem, everything has to be politics, I don't give a rat asssss what party Wike belong, for what it's worth he just managed to do one thing right in the eyes of the common man,I don't know who gave him the advice but it was well planned. This flyover is on a federal road the one I'm on about, the fact that there is no busy traffic around it is because all roads to the intersection is being shut at least two poles behind. These three projects has generated a huge gridlock in PH but it is worth waiting for. With this people will not have. Once again I dnt give a damn where Wike is from etc, the fact is this, I don't have to wait until 12 midnight when the traffic has died down around Rumukoro roundabout to go home from Chobba once these are compleated. However, if you do not know these areas you won't appreciate the pains this project is going to relieve, imagine taken away the flyover at Ikeja Underbridge bus stop, this is what people go fru at these intersections.Theses are not showoffs, they are going to ease traffic like mad! |

again look for root cause AND NOT THE make over cause before you start to fix problem... this is a lesson they teach children in china as soon as they are born. Weldone for talking absolute rubbish. 1st and foremost it takes minimum of 1 hour just to go fru this I intersection cos of the cross roads the only solution to this is a flyover and it is constructed by JB 3 at once.. look at lagos imagine taking off flyovers in Lagos.so to me this is a direct solution to a massive problem.mo ey well spent if U ask me. |

ITbomb: That "scam of an organization" are the ones doing the importation and they have the figures. Until that time you start importing petroleum products, maybe I will listen to you. For now, shed a little of your pride and update your knowledge
1. There's no payment of subsidy with the new oil prices. When pms landing price was N141.07 per litre as at January 31, 2020 and market adjusted price was N156, subsidy payments were necessary
2.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/03/oil-crash-pms-landing-cost-drops-34-2-from-january/amp/ FYI I'm a fluid mechanic, so that will tell you I know all there is to know when it comes to Petroleum product plus I work globally the cheapest PP is in South America and they are on subsidy,The problem with youths or rather most youths in Nigeria is they fail to think outside the box hence they are being cheated day in day out by not so smart people. The govt can never ever take away subsidy if not pump price will be minimum N400, can you pay that the Uk without subsidy at the moment is £1.16 minimum, in teh EU its slightly cheaper arround £1, the USA is slightly cheaper almost £1, these are all above N450 however in Asia its cheaper but not below £0.50 so not les than N200, so if U add all the cost and taxt to bring it to Nigeria that will go up at least N250 to N300, the difference is the subsidy however b4 the scam in progress was delivering empty figurs and inflating product volume. |
