PoliticsRe: Who Will Win The Southwest? by EvilBrain1(m): 4:21pm On Apr 06, 2011
I don't understand why people think PDP will win in Ogun. Obasanjo lost in his ward in 1999; and in 2003, the PDP rigging there was so blatant that the Supreme Court had to cancel the results. Trust me, nobody hates Obasanjo more than the people of Ogun state.

If these elections are free and fair, then the PDP is going to lose hard in the SW. Their useless governors and their history of vote-rigging has totally destroyed their credibility. The only question is whether its going to be Buhari or Ribadu that benefits. I'm thinking Buhari. Most people don't think Ribadu has any chance of winning anymore. Plus Bakare has been surprisingly popular with the people there.

Thank God for his interventions, hmmm Nuclear energy is very dangerous, its radiation alone, many takes inn a  lot of ionic components thereby making the victim to be Radioactive . yes the President you took a wise decision if not our dear country in future will experience am agedon and doom ,hence  many lives will go. Bravo Mr. Pres-do.
Nuclear is probably the safest form of power generation. The plant in Japan survived the second largest earthquake in recorded history and a 42 foot tsunami. The trouble only started because the area where they placed the backup generators got flooded. Despite all the media brouhaha, only 3 people have died so far. Compare that with the hundreds who die worldwide each year while bringing coal out of the ground.

Regardless, I wouldn't trust this government to run my petrol gen. Something bad is sure to happen if they build a reactor here.

Edit: I checked and it turns out that the 3 people that died were killed by the tsunami. Worldwide, there have been no deaths related to nuclear power since 1986.
BusinessRe: Jonathan's Govt Drops Nuclear Power Plans by EvilBrain1(m): 3:14am On Apr 06, 2011
I don't agree with those who say nuclear plants aren't safe because clearly they are despite what is happening in Japan. But I do agree that no nuclear plant in Nigeria isn't safe.
I suspect that the only reason they wanted to build one was to have another excuse to give out multibillion naira contracts, collect bribes and steal money. Imagine a corrupt PDP government cutting corners everywhere while building and operating it. The only way that story can end is with an Ikeja cantonement style disaster. Except that with nuclear, the surrounding areas will be uninhabitable for centuries after.

I support Buhari becausw he's the only candidate with a real chance of defeating the PDP. No matter the cost, the PDP has to go. Their cup is full. We can't take any more of their nonsense. They are the cancer that is killing Nigeria. Maybe Buhari is the bitter medicine we need to get cured.

People say Buhari is dictatorial and that he wants to sharialize Nigeria but I don't care as long as he's not PDP. He can't possibly do more damage than the PDP has in the last 4 years. Even if Buhari had red eyes and horns on his head, I'd still vote for him over Goodluck. Jonathan is like a guy that smiles to your face while his friends are burning down your house behind you. Enough is enough!

Whatever has happened in the past can never change anything about the future so u guys should just drop all the arguments and lets see what pot May 29 will bring to us
I used to support Nuhu Ribadu too but its become abundantly clear that he has no real chance of winning. A vote for him is a vote for PDP because he's just splitting the anti-PDP block. Don't waste your vote. Buhari is far from perfect, but anything is better than another PDP presidency. Hopefully Ribadu will have the good sense to step down and endorse Buhari. We can't miss this chance to kick out the PDP looters.

If we are not careful, we'll be living in totalitarian PDP kleptocracy in a few short years. May God save Nigeria!

You are right on the highlighted and I do not contest a good argument like the BB people who cannot accept that Buhari goes to toilet. However in this case, you cannot visit the sins of the father on the offspring. GEJ is toeing a different part with rogues around him just like we have the same rogues who ran things at one time or the other making up to at least 75% of the people in CPC.

He has ideas and clear road maps which will surely change the status quo. The same cannot be said of Buhari and you and I know that Buhari's selling point is his questionable 'straightforwardness' which has been applied to his party by association and very erroneous applied to his party members by extension.
Please explain to me how GEJ is materially different from the PDP rogues. He's been president for a year and he's been running the country in the same corrupt PDP way, so I really don't know what you are talking about. In all his 12 years as a senior PDP member, I can't think of a single thing he has done that has made me think he didn't fit in with the other thieves. If you swim with sharks, you are a shark. End of Discussion.

I'm amazed at how people can for the "he's not like the other PDP thieves" trick for 2 elections in a row. They said the exact same thing about Yar'Adua if you remember, and they'll say the same thing about the next thief they want us to vote for. Don't be their mugu.

Demdem I agree with u, but u wld agree that corruption has to be dealt with systematically, because as it is now corruption is systematically entrenched in the system.

Buharis style and Ribadus style of fighting corruption may only plunge us into a deeper mess, I prefer the Jonathan way of fighting corruption allow the agencies fight corruption allow more information and allow the issues come 2 public domain.

Justice always grinds slowly but surely, so we must mitigate new corrupt acts by placing checks that will make it impossible to get away with a corrupt act and maybe legalise some acts that are corrupt 2day so we can all benefit from them.
Marvix, will you please tell us which of the federal agencies have been fighting corruption under Jonathan? As far as I can tell Waziri's EFCC has been doing more of ambulance chasing and window dressing than anything else. Cecilia Ibru's 6 month hotel/hospital sentence for stealing over a billion dollars (not naira!) is the best you can boast of. GEJ and his former oga, Yar'Adua have effectively legalized corruption in Nigeria. Its time for them to go.

Good since they are all sinners, stop the holier-than-thou attitude and let us discuss issues. No more Buhari is a saint and will fight corruption mantra.

If you remove that, then you all know Buhari has no chance. It is the false sainthood bestowed upon him which has been sleekly marketed that is giving him hope.

Outside that, he is an empty barrel
You clearly didn't read my post properly so I'm going to repeat myself. The PDP needs to lose massively to establish the principle that if the leaders mess things up for the people, the people will vote them out. This is the basic principle underpinning all modern democracies. The leaders have to be taught to fear the wrath of the people. How will they ever learn if we keep rewarding them for stealing our commonwealth? If Buhari messes up, he'll be easy to get rid of in 2015. Eventually a good leader will arise from somewhere.

recoome:
@evil brain: stop decieving your self. GEJ is leadin in the NC, and as 4 igbo's in d SW, they are seriously rooting 4 GEJ, take a trip round lagos and ask any igbo who they'll vote for, they'll tell u, that's it'r their 'in-law' they are interestd in breaking the Northern dominance, igbos will never vote 4 a northern candidate esp after mass killing of igbos in the north & the biafran war,so think again. Also, of the 20 million votes in the NW, no less than 5 million are igbo's and the apex igbo org. And igbo govs have made their stance clear, GEJ's helping of ojukwu, who is seen as the leader of the entire igbo race, was a master stroke, he's endorsment by APGA, by Aka-ikenga is also a giant stride. Even in d NW, he was given a tumultous reception in kebbi, jigawa, kano, &zamfara. South kaduna is going 2 GEJ, dnt also forget the sambo effect.bottom line, GEJ will win in the SE,SS,SW,NC and will get an appreciable no in the core north
You've just described the Ibo people as a bunch of blind tribalists who are easily conned by cheap political tricks. So the PDP can lie, steal and rig all they want but because they helped Ojukwu (or rather, made is wife a special adviser), the Ibos will vote for them en masse? I think you should give our brothers in the east a little more credit than that. They are not as silly as you think. For your information, I know plenty of Ibo people who are voting against GEJ.

If I was an Ibo man, I would have been deeply offended by what you what you just said. You should apologize.

All i know is that GEJ is winning by a landslide victory come rain come shine. GEJ has the SS/SE/major chunk of the SW/NC/and parts of the NW & NE. GOODLUCK/SAMBO=TRANSFORM NIGERIA!! We will never be blackmailed.
Nobody is saying that the other parties are full of saints. Politics is never black and white. What I'm saying is that PDP has been in power for 12 years and since then things have gotten worse for the vast majority of Nigerians. Jonathan has been commander-in-chief 1 year and has not been in any way different from his predecessors. Democracy means that the people can punish bad leaders when the government makes the masses suffer. PDP has to go!

And without massive rigging, there's no way in hell GEJ is winning by a landslide. He's only guaranteed to win the SE and SS which are the smallest zones terms of population. At best, he'll split Kaduna 50:50 with Buhari and lose badly in the rest of the north. The SW is likely to decide the winner and there is a massive anti-PDP sentiment there thanks to their rigging and their useless governors. Buhari and Bakare have made huge inroads there and Ribadu is no longer reckoned with so there'll be little splitting of the vote. In the end, I think it will come down to the 1-2 million ibos living in Lagos. The PDP expects them to vote for GEJ along ethnic lines. They may be in for a rude shock. Nigerians are not as stup.id as you think.

This reply is specifically to the people that wont vote for GEJ because he is on the PDP platform.

For now only PDP can deliver a true national leader. maybe in a few years other parties can.

this is why.

PDP is the only National party in Nigeria. all other parties are sleeping. they are based on tribe, religion or location.

PDP has a strong presence in the North, middle belt, south west, south east, and south south.
ACN is mainly in the south west.
Anpp is in a small part of the North.
Apga is in a small part of the south east
CPC(Buhari's personal property) is nothing in buhari's state but has a few almajiris in other states.

the rest do not exist.

These parties shoult mobilise on a national scale if they want to control this country.

If you want gold, you have to dig in the dirt
if you want diamond, you will most likely enter a dirty river.

GEJ is in the right place. he would have had no chance if he was an ACN candidate.

Please Forget the parrty and vote the man.
you can vote any other person for any other position, but its in our best interest that GEJ wins.
So you're asking us to vote PDP because they are big even though we know they're a bunch of thieves and looters? Ridiculous!

Anyway, the bolded part shows the folly of GEJ supporters. I'm sorry, there's no kind way to say this, you're all a bunch of mugus! You've forgotten that you fell for the same trick 4 years ago when they said Yar'Adua was such a kind, wonderful man and that he was going to change the party for the better. How did that turn out for you? Remind me!

Jonathan has deceived you people that he is the single bar of chocolate floating in the sea of faeces that is the PDP. But only a foo.l would put something like that in his mouth. If you swim with sharks, you are a shark. There are no honest men in the PDP. I wonder why you think all the PDP thieves are supporting him.

PoliticsRe: Buhari's Past Sins, Ribadu's Past Sins, Jonathan's Past Sins by EvilBrain1(m): 3:37pm On Apr 02, 2011
Why I'm not voting for Jonathan

One major reason: He's a member of the PDP, the gang of corrupt liars and vote riggers that has brought our country to this sorry state. 12 years and nothing to show, legislators earning 10 times Obama's salary, the power problem, and so many other things that I can't list them all. The party of Anenih, Ibori, Igbinedion, Yerima, Chimaroke Nnamani, IBB, Atiku and Obasanjo will never get my vote.

Now I know that the PDP apologists keep saying that GEJ is different, that he's not like the other PDP crooks, that we should vote for personality not party and he can change PDP for the better. Except that he is like the other PDP crooks. He's been a senior PDP man for the past 12 years, longer than Obasanjo. He was the number 2 in the corrupt Alamco government in Bayelsa and continued to defend the man even after his arrest and "miraculous" escape from London. He was the number 2 man under Yar'Adua and never spoke out against the corruption in that government. And he's been the head of state for a year now and he's still running the country in the same corrupt PDP manner. If he's so different, how come all the known PDP thieves are backing him? If he was going to change anything, he would have done it by now. Unfortunately too many Nigerians are mugus who fall for the same job every 4 years. They said Yar'Adua was different too if you remember. If you swim with sharks, you are a shark. If you lie with pigs, you are a pig. There are no honest PDP politicians, you better stop deceiving yourselves.

Then there are the minor reasons like his uncontrolled spending (he's emptied the excess crude account in just 1 year). His huge, overbloated government that he keeps expanding. His incompetent handling of the independence bomb blasts and the Jos crisis. His disgraceful failure to act during the Yar'Adua illness crisis that brought him to power. The ridiculous number of aides his wife has who are all paid with public money in violation of the constitution. His decision to bribe and settle militants instead of tackling the root causes of the Niger Delta crisis. His harebrained plan to build an airport in every state.

I've said before that Nigerians have to establish the principle that when the leaders misbehave and make the people suffer, the people can punish them by kicking them out of office. No party has ever deserved to be kicked out more than the PDP. They are a bunch of unrepentant thieves and vote riggers and they have to go. I have serious concerns about Buhari as well but at least if he messes up he'll be easy to vote out in 2015. If the PDP is allowed to continue consolidating power, they'll weaken democratic structures so much that we'll be stuck with them forever. Or at least until another coup or Libya style mass action God forbid. We have to chose the lesser of 2 evils and even if Buhari had a tail and horns on his head, he'll still be better than another PDP presidency.

I hope you PDP supporters will read this and come to your senses. May God save Nigeria!

I just want to beg all the GEJ supporters not to vote PDP for the national assembly. Even if Jonathan wins the presidency again it might not be so bad if he has to deal with a hostile legislature than can curb his PDP excesses and make sure the government actually works. We need a viable opposition at the federal level.

The current set of lawmakers seem to think that their job is to rubber stamp whatever Aso Rock sends them and collect big money. I don't think its a coincidence that most of them belong to the party responsible for the bulk of the corruption in Nigeria.

The only way to prevent rigging is to go out and vote, stay and watch them count the votes, take pictures of the result sheets and post them to nairaland. The PDP has become a bigger threat to Nigeria's democracy than anything else. They are a bunch of corrupt, unrepentant vote riggers and they need to be put in their place.

You'll probably want to argue that you're voting for personalities not parties and that Goodluck can reform the PDP but deep down, you don't really believe that. No rational person can. I don't think you can do much about the millions of misguided people who are voting based on ethnicity. You can try and educate your your friends and family members but that's about all. unfortunately, there will always be people like this no matter what we do.

But this doesn't mean we can't take advantage of the situation. Most of the northern tribalists won't be voting for the PDP. If we can convince enough southerners to join them against their own parochial instincts, then can kick out the ruling party.

In time enough people will come to their senses and realize that democracy is not about tribe or religion but making the ruling class answerable to the masses. But until then we have to do whatever we can to prevent a one party state.

As I've followed the presidential debate over the past few months I've become really saddened by the quality of comments I've been reading in the political section. Most Nairalanders seem to think the upcoming election is like the premiership race or the world cup instead of a major decision that will affect our lives and the lives of our children for years to come.

I've seen people trumpet the most ridiculous arguements and others accept them as fact. Almost like Arsenal fans who argue that their club is the greatest in the world despite all evidence to the contrary.

Today, I've read dozens of people proclaiming that the embarrasing sham organized by BON is more credible than the NN24 debate. I've seen people gloss over Buhari's worrying record and Ribadu's weak manifesto. I've seen people claim that a GEJ government will be different even though he's been a major PDP insider for 12 years and has been running the country in the same corrupt, incompetent PDP way for the past year.

I'm tired of reading posts like "your father is a bast.erd, sai Buhari!" or "you must be a sens.eless monkey, fresh air!"

My people, we need to wake up. If we elect the wrong person next weekend there will be no winners, all of us will lose! We need to stop all the tribalism and blind fanboyism. We need to stop the trolling and the childish insults.

We need to argue rationally and objectively like mature people. And when we're trying to convince others to our point of view, lets keep our minds open so that others can also convince us.

This election is too important for us to be behaving like small children.

Full disclosure: I'm an Arsenal fan, a southerner, and while I used to support Ribadu, but I will most likely be voting for Buhari (anyone but the PDP!)
