Travel40-feet Container Crushes Man To Death, Injures Woman In Lagos (photos) by ExAngel007(op): 8:35pm On May 12, 2022
A yet-to-be-identified man was crushed to death and a woman severely injured as a 40ft container fell on them at Costain roundabout in Lagos State.

It was gathered that the container fell off a truck after the
vehicle suffered brake failure on Wednesday night, May 11,
crushing the two victims who were passing by.

Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency
Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, said the male victim died on the spot while the female victim was rescued alive with severe injuries on the left leg.

"In an overnight operation, the Lagos State Emergency
Management Agency, LASEMA, activated its Emergency
Response Plan when an incident was reported via its toll-free number 112, at the wee hours of Wednesday night, 11th May, 2022, regarding an adult female and male who fell victim of a fallen 40ft container which left the male counterpart dead at the COSTAIN roundabout incident," the statement read.

"Consequent upon the arrival of the Agency's Response Team, it was discovered that an adult male and female were passing by when the incident involving the 40ft container on the articulated vehicle fell and crushed the adult male to death instantly, while the Agency's Response Team extricated the adult female alive with severe injuries on the left leg and was immediately given pre-medical treatment by the Agency's Paramedics before being taken to a nearby hospital for furtherbmedical attention.

"Further enquiry at the scene revealed that the articulated truck laden with the 40ft container had suffered brake failure while enroute the COSTAIN roundabout and as a result, the container fell off the back of the truck.

"The deceased adult male body was bagged and handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, SEHMU, for further action.

"The truck and its fallen container were recovered off the road with the aid of the Agency’s heavy-duty Forklift and placed on a lay-by before being handed over to Officers of the Nigerian Police at the incident scene."

Other responders at the scene were the LASAMBUS and the
Nigerian Police Force, he added.

Politics2023: Nigerians React As Buhari Orders Amaechi, Malami, Ngige To Resign by ExAngel007(op): 2:13pm On May 11, 2022
Nigerians have hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for directing all ministers vying for any elective office in 2023 to resign before Monday 16th of May.

The directive was to cabinet members during the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said he did not have the mandate to talk about the fate of other political appointees who are also vying for elective positions but are not members of the cabinet.

Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonnaya Onu, Emeka Nwajiuba, Chris Ngige, Abubakar Malami and Timipre Sylva are the affected ministers.

The directive by Buhari has stirred reactions from Nigerians on social media

However, some called for the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and Senate President Ahmed Lawan to also resign.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter;

@AboladeOlaniran “Amaechi and Ngige and all of them wey no they can’t have the party ticket. They should better go and withdraw their partynomination form and tell the world they’re catching cruise.”

@CallmeWhiley “We appreciate all of them for their service to the nation.”

@EjioforOdo “It is time to quit one: appointment or political ambition. Most of them would prefer to quit their ambition. Let watch out.”

@Teresematt “Let me prepare my CV and apply for the position of Transportation Minister.”

@Ujaymycine “Please tell @MBuhari that I am available for

@Chrisneche12 “Yes let them resign if youwant to contest for any position, you can’t serve two masters at the same time.”

@Opeyemifolarin1 “Osinbajo should be ordered to resign too. Anything short of this, the status quo should remain.”

shouldn’t end with word of mouth, an enforcement should be applied as well immediately.”

CrimeImo Attack: Gunmen Killed Army Couple In Front Of Bride’s Mum And Daughter by ExAngel007(op): 4:46pm On May 10, 2022
A family member has narrated the circumstances
surrounding the killing of Gloria Matthew and Linus Audu, an army couple who were reportedly beheaded in Imo state.

https://alexis.lindaikejisblog.com/photos/shares/627a593f7d29e.jpg

TheCable had earlier reported that Gloria and Audu were said to be on their way to “fulfil the traditional rites for their
wedding” when they were attacked.

Speaking to the BBC disinformation unit, the family member said the duo were attacked by four armed persons at an area not far from Banana junction in Orlu, Imo state.

“It happened around 3pm. They were travelling to Nkwerre
from Lagos,” BBC quoted the family source as saying.

The wedding was said to have been fixed for May 2 at
Nkwerre LGA of Imo state.

“Audu is from southern Kaduna but he lives in Makurdi. Gloria is based in Sokoto. They arrived in Lagos from Kaduna on the 26th of April to pick up Gloria’s mum so that they can travel together for the traditional marriage rites,” the source said.

The source wasn’t, however, sure if the attack happened on
April 30 or May 1, but added that the photograph of Gloria’s
corpse was posted on her WhatsApp status on May 1.

“They killed Linus’ relatives that day. The leader of the armed men ordered them (gunmen) to shoot. They killed them (the couple) in front of Gloria’s 10-year-old daughter and her mum,” the source said.

The army had also confirmed the killing of the couple, adding that efforts are on to apprehend the perpetrators.

President Muhammadu Buhari had, in a statement issued on May 4, described the beheading of the soldiers as “barbaric”.

Describing the incident as “unacceptable”, Buhari added that security agencies have been directed to “do their utmost in apprehending the perpetrators of these barbaric acts and bring them to justice”.

PoliticsGilbert Chagoury Building US Biggest Consulate In Nigeria Is An Ex-convict by ExAngel007(op): 1:33pm On May 10, 2022
The United States government has been accused of going into business with Gilbert Chagoury, Nigerian-Lebanese developer and funder of Eko Atlantic, despite his criminal records.

Born in Nigeria to Lebanese immigrants, Chagoury co-founded the Chagoury Group in Lagos in 1971. The conglomerate owns construction, real estate, hotel, glass and flour milling businesses.

The Eko Atlantic project, which started in 2008, is a real estate project that features residential and commercial properties.

The project is privately funded by South Energyx Nigeria Limited – the developers and city planners, a subsidiary of the Nigeria-based Chagoury Group of companies.

The company is working in partnership with the Lagos state government and is supported by the Nigerian government.

In May 2019, the US mission in Nigeria announced that it had purchased about 50,000 square meters of land at Eko Atlantic city to build its new consulate.

The consulate is expected to be the largest US consulate in the world.

However, the development has raised concerns about President Joe Biden’s pledge to tackle international corruption.

According to Bloomberg, Matthew Page, the state department’s lead intelligence analyst on Nigeria from 2012 to 2015, said the department was not privy to the decision of the US to locate its consulate at Eko Atlantic.

“We did not have input into that process, or we would have flagged that,” Page reportedly said.

“Either the U.S. government was incompetent and didn’t do that due diligence, or did that due diligence, understood who it was dealing with and basically disregarded the obvious concerns.”

The newspaper also quoted a source as saying objections to the consulate deal were raised within the US mission to Nigeria as negotiations were ongoing but they were disregarded.

The 76-year-old Chagoury has reportedly spent decades cultivating relationships with politicians in the US and Nigeria.

His company reportedly flourished in the 1990s through its close association with the late Sani Abacha, former Nigerian military ruler.

In 2000, he was reportedly convicted by a Swiss court for laundering some of the funds Abacha looted from the Nigeria.

Chagoury reportedly agreed to pay a fine of about 1 million Swiss francs (about $600,000 at that time) and handed back $66 million to the Nigerian government.

He denied knowing the funds were stolen.

Between 2012 and 2016, Chagoury reportedly sought to help fund election campaigns of US politicians believed to be “supportive to his cause” — the protection of Christians in the Middle East.

One of the campaigns he funded was that of Jeff Fortenberry,nUS lawmaker, in 2016.

Fortenberry was convicted of concealing information and making false statements to US federal authorities who were investigating illegal contributions made by Chagoury– a foreign national– to his re-election campaign.

Fortenberry resigned from office after his conviction.

Chagoury, however, reportedly paid $1.8 million in fines in December 2019 to resolve the investigation.

PoliticsBuhari, Osinbajo & Reno's Fundamental Emptiness - By Sen. Olushola Adeyeye by ExAngel007(op): 12:53pm On May 10, 2022
Re: 2023 Political Realities That Annoy And Heal

https://www.chronicle.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Senator-Olusola-Adeyeye-representing-Osun-Central-constituency-of-Osun-State.jpg

Read the piece witten by Sen. Olusola Adeyeye below...

''This is a rejoinder to Reno Omokri’s piece of the above title published in his column (‘THE ALTERNATIVE’) on the the backpage of ThisDay newspaper of Tuesday, the 3rd of May, 2022.

I like Reno. Even though we are on different ideological pages, I love his energy and commitment to the Nigerian national cause. He’s an example of how I want young people to engage with Nigeria. When I sit with young people in my orbit or talk with them in any setting, I keep repeating that they cannot afford to just be spectators in our national affairs. The men and women who helped birth the nation from colonialism were young people who answered the call of duty. There is no time to stand and stare!

In his piece, Reno missed two fundamental truths about Nigerian politics. The first is that if the establishment does not want you, you can never win the presidency.

The second is religion as a factor in Nigerian political outcomes is overrated, especially at the national level. Yes,
the establishment uses it when convenient, but, when it matters, realpolitik always trumps religion.

https://i0.wp.com/www.chronicle.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Reno-Omokri-was-an-aide-to-ex-president-Goodluck-Jonathan.jpg
Reno Omokri used Leah Sharibu’s name to solicit funds which he converted for personal use

Nigeria is not a land of political revolution. We have been caught in the web of the ‘Class of 1966’ like since forever and they are still in charge. They determine who is president, irrespective of parties. Buhari, for good or ill, has reshaped the establishment platform to be more pro-North. He may have done it deliberately or it may just be something that has developed naturally under his watch.

Whichever is the case, it is today our reality.

Of course, the popular wisdom is that religious sentiments
determine the outcomes of national political contests, especially for the presidency - at the party and general election levels. But the historical facts do not support this.

What history tells us is that any candidate of any religious
background can be sold successfully nationally by the
establishment once they determine he or she is the one they want there.

So, Omokri’s attempt to aggressively launder the now emergent falsehood that Osinbajo is a Christian fundamentalist unsellable in the Muslim North will not fly.

He’s only trying to scrape his way through a barrel to a ready-made answer. In fact, the fundamental emptiness of
his position can be seen in his attempt to compare Osinbajo to Isa Pantami. I mean, isn’t that the height of skullduggery? Ordinarily such poppycockery does not belong in the realm of even quasi-intelligent discourse; but, in Nigeria, it’s par the course. When we discuss politics, we throw in the kitchen and the toilet sinks and religion is the odious perfume we smell everywhere. But, as I have implied, the establishment does not think that way.

If the North thought Osinbajo a problem on religious grounds, he wouldn’t have been accepted as the Vice President to a Buhari as President. What they saw was a man who was a vital intellectual backbone of the Tinubu machine and the one who ran the biggest programme (through the courts) that created the Tinubu mystique.

Surely, when the Lagos State Government repeatedly beat
the Federal Government at the Supreme Court, the
establishment had no choice than to notice the genius
behind the string of legal victories- Prof Yemí Osìnbàjò.

When Reno says that Buhari’s political foot soldiers in the
core North are united behind Tinubu, we simply tick that
off as an error of assessment. The reality is that those he
refers to as Buhari’s political foot soldiers are showing
Tinubu everyday with action that they are not with him.

Let him name one Buhari foot soldier in Tinubu’s camp
and I will name a hundred that are not there. When Buhari
candidly said that the presidency is not for sale to the
highest bidder, wise citizens paid attention.

Yes, Tinubu has the structure, he has amassed the money
and is already throwing it around left, right and centre, but
the truth is that many are just fleecing him at the moment.
Many signals within the party and within the establishment indicate he is on a hiding to nothing. Many see Tinubu as a someone who must be kept away from Aso Rock because he has the capacity to create an entirely different political patronage structure that can alienate the ‘Class of 1966’.

Incidentally, Tinubu went full throttle to politically terminate
Ambode when the latter tinkered with the patronage structure in Lagos. As far as the establishment are concerned, Tinubu has been amply rewarded with the free rein they’ve given him over Lagos and its purse strings.

Giving him Aso Rock is class suicide for the establishment.

We have seen the establishment flying the idea of parachuting Jonathan in as the consensus candidate of the APC, but it’s a bridge too far. We have been hearing of the attempt by some top members of the establishment to draft in Godwin Emefiele and now we see that he has actually picked up the APC Expression of Interest and Nomination form. Of course, that is quite troubling because the corruption writ-large in his candidacy is brazen. I wouldn’t want to believe that our party has degenerated to the level that they can openly slap Nigerians in the face with the candidacy of a serving Central Bank Governor. So, I still believe the real battle is among three other aspirants that include Osinbajo.

https://i0.wp.com/www.chronicle.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Vice-President-Yemi-Osinbajo-and-President-Muhammadu-Buhari-to-take-COVID-19-vaccine.jpg

A lot of people don’t know that Professor Osinbajo faced very stiff opposition in 2019 from people who didn’t want him to return as part of the reelection ticket with Buhari.

At the head of those opposed to him returning as Vice President was the late Abba Kyari who was said to have been working closely with Tinubu at the time. Buhari had to sternly tell off the lobbyists, insisting he was happy with Osinbajo and would run with him. Osinbajo as Vice President today is a strong indication that Buhari thinks him worthy of succeeding him in 2023. He could have easily replaced him prior to the election of 2019.

For those who still think Buhari has no favourite amongst the candidates, they need to read between the lines. When in January he was asked in a Channels Television interview by Maupe Ogun to name his favourite presidential candidate, he responded: “I won’t tell you my favourite for 2023, he may be eliminated if I mention. I better keep it a secret.” He wasn’t joking. The comment is revealing. It tells us he was aware of the intense jostling for the position going on within our party. It tells us he had someone in mind already and that person isn’t a party Goliath. For a man who knows what Osinbajo has endured as Vice President, he knew what he was talking about. Of course, the only thing is that he has not expressed his preference to Osinbajo himself.

Though Buhari can appear aloof, he appreciates loyalty. If
Osinbajo works hard to win him over and Buhari helps
make the case with the Northern establishment that Osinbajo is the best bet for Nigeria, they will vote him overwhelmingly.

For Buhari, he must see the overwhelming benefit to him and his legacy if he endorses Osinbajo. It would prove that he is a true statesman and a wise and methodical leader of men. He should be proud that for the first time a Nigerian Vice President will succeed his principal.

Osinbajo knows that a lot is riding on his candidacy. He
knows that he presents young Nigerians and the progressive forces, North and South, their best opportunity to win back the country and set it on a confident future where all citizens will feel proud to identify with our national aspirations in healthy competition with the best in the world. He knows there is nothing partisan about true national development, which is why he is committed to making Nigeria work for every Nigerian, no matter their ethnic group or faith and no matter where they live and work. He knows that as the President, if given the opportunity, he has to rapidly build upon the foundations
laid at a time of enormous difficulties for our republic.

Omokri is analytical but he clearly does not understand the
game of thrones. Contrary to what he opined, methinks that the majority of the northern governors will bend towards the candidate that President Buhari endorses.

Buhari did not win the affection of the North through these
Governors. Rather, many of them rode on Buhari’s coattail to ascend into office. To assert that even Buhari cannot stop Tinubu in the North is the height of sophistry.

I have repeatedly said that Osinbajo cannot totally separate
himself from the perceived shortcomings of the Buhari
Government. I find the accusation a bit lame that Osinbajo
failed to distance himself from PMB. The constitution is clear about who is the ‘driver’ of the Nigerian vehicle. To his credit, even Tinubu has not disowned Buhari publicly.

https://i0.wp.com/www.chronicle.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Asiwaju-Bola-Tinubu-has-canvassed-three-million-votes-for-President-Buhari-ahead-of-2019-election.jpeg

However, writers paid by Tinubu would naturally project
Osinbajo as the architect and cornerstone of every shortcoming the current Government. Meanwhile, it will be
lost on them that the Buhari Presidency is an APC Government. How many times did the National Leader of the APC speak to the derelictions of the Government of his party?

The only period when Buhari was away was when people came to appreciate Osinbajo's leadership qualities. Nigeria
needs a man who must combine a tender heart with a tough mind. Yemi Osinbajo epitomises this combination.'

PoliticsSteer Clear Of Our Issues – IPOB Warns Apostle Suleman, Tunde Bakare by ExAngel007(op): 7:52pm On May 03, 2022
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has called out two prominent men of God on Tuesday.

IPOB cautioned Apostle Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries and Pastor Tunde Bakare against unguarded utterances against Igbos.

https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2022/may/03/suleman-tunde.jpeg

IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, said Suleman should guard his utterances against the separatist group and the Igbo nation.

Powerful lamented that Suleman and Bakare verbally attacked IPOB and the Igbo nation without cause.

In a statement he signed, Powerful warned Suleman and Bakare to steer clear of issues concerning IPOB and the Igbo nation.

According to Powerful, Suleman and Bakare’s unguarded comments against IPOB and Igbo nation would not be tolerated.

He said: “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, under the command of our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the unprovoked verbal attack and ranting bynApostle Suleiman against IPOB and the enterprising Igbonnation.

“It is a puzzle that a man of God will abandon his calling and resort to attacking a nation without any cause. When has unguarded utterance against IPOB and the Igbo nation become part of Suleman’s calling?

“We don’t intend to join issues with Apostle Suleiman and his likes such as Tunde Bakare but our message to them is very unambiguous: They should steer clear from any matter
concerning IPOB or the great Igbo race.

“Let them concentrate on their apostolic calling and restrain
from unguarded utterances or vituperations on subjects beyond them.

“We warn Apostle Suleiman and his likes to restrain from any comments on IPOB or Igbo nation as that will not be tolerated anymore. We don’t want to have issues with any man of God, and men of God should know their limits.

“Men of God in the bible days were never known for controversies.”

Recently, Suleman claimed Nigerians do not trust Igbos
because they don’t support themselves.

The cleric alleged that Igbos tear themselves down at any given opportunity.

Citing how Igbos have fought against each other, Suleman said an Igbo Senate President, Evan Enwerem was removed by another Igbo man, Chuba Okadigbo.

PoliticsBuhari Returns To Twitter For The First Time Since The Platform Was Banned by ExAngel007(op): 7:08pm On May 02, 2022
Buhari has returned to Twitter 11 months after he stopped tweeting following the ban on the microblogging platform.

The Buhari administration banned Twitter after the platform deleted tweets by the president, threatening to treat members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the "language they understand".

The ban was announced on June 4, 2021 and was lifted on January, 13, 2022, after 7 months.

Following the ban, the President stopped addressing citizens via Twitter.

Even when the ban was lifted and many politicians and their aides returned to the platform, Buhari didn't return until today, May 2.

In his first tweet in 11 months, Buhari sent his best wishes to Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Fitr while addressing the problem of insecurity in the country.

Before tweeting today, his last tweet was on June 1, 2021. Read his tweets below.
