You surprise me with your assertion. For your information there are lots of educated, erudite and successful people on this forum.i was even discussing with a dean of faculty of a university from the West. Which planet are you from? Wake and smell the coffee! You just showed that you are an ill-educated oaf. How hard is it to become a scientist? Smh. So many kids on this forum. That's why I hardly comment.

Lol. I like how you're getting worked up because someone spotted your harmless little lie.

Assertion? Who's the one making baseless claims?

Basically all scientists know how fucking stupid it is to make crazy claims without any proof. That's why it was easy to spot your lie.

You can claim that you're a lecturer in some shitty Nigerian school who does zero research, but you're certainly not a working scientist that builds hypotheses and demolishes them via the scientific method.

It's okay to make crazy claims w/out proofs. Just don't claim to be a scientist. It's insulting to those who appreciate the rigor and clarity that rational reasoning offers.

Of course you're free to believe in whatever you chose to believe. Just don't claim you're a scientist. That's fraudulent.

It's like how most pastors add the Dr. title to their name to boost their credibility. Bloody fraudsters.

My dear, I am am wary to discuss such with some people because they are blinded by unbelief. They term people like us ignorant, unschooled and deeply fetish. But as a scientist who believes in empirical facts tested by stringent and rigorous analysis, I have come to believe that there is another side to this life we live. We may not be able to prove this by scientific test, but not knowing about something does not mean it doesn't exist.
Now to your point. They don't come to play with people. They come to deposit hardship, ill luck, missed opportunities, sickness and terrible syndromes like promiscuity, stubbornness, spirit of stealing e.t.c. making someone paralyzed and unable to move makes for a smooth operation. Someone once asked, why don't we see them? Well if they allow you to see them, then you will be on your guard against them and up your defense. I am not forcing anyone to believe, but we will all find out someday

Hehehehe. Lots of crazies on Nairaland.

Fucking, marrying and multiplying like viruses to build a 180 million plus army of illiterates. These are the only skills that the average unenlightened Nigerian has.

And some idi0ts' defense is that it reduces immorality. So it's moral to reproduce indiscriminately without a care for how one would get the resources necessary to raise one's kids so as to avoid the almost inevitable case that they become a liability to the society.

They simply don't get it. Resources are limited, a large population only leads to more suffering. Especially when this population has no knowledge of how to use these limited resources for the advancement of his people.

You don't need to marry to have sex. Fvck and be happy but always use a condom. Don't reproduce like fucking rabbits!

It's 2017 and the seventh most populous nation in the world at almost 200 million and a top exporter of crude still can't manage to build a single fucking world class hospital, manufactures basically nothing worthy of export, no functional research institute, dead universities, electricity generation less than 6000 MW, illiteracy and religious fanaticism a record high, human rights abuse is the norm etc etc.

When white people call us fucking animals, you'd all get angry and play the racist card. Be honest, place yourselves in their shoes, how will you regard a group of people who only know how to fvck and give birth like rabbits?

Developed nations are exploring the universe, most people in our country probably think it's for fun. The idiots don't understand that the survival of a people rank above petty things like inefficiency and corruption.

The only thing stopping powerful nations from completely wiping us out and assuming control of our land and resources are international laws; empathy can be easily bypassed in the name of utilitarianism or some racist ideology. Compared to the length of human existence, these laws have been around only recently. Surely, these laws are not going to be here forever.

So, keep on acting like f00ls and let's keep on watching our old useless f00ls lead us into doom and the annihilation of our future generation shall be certain.

Ambode vows to preserve Lagos historical, cultural heritage

Speaking further on the site, the Governor said: “All over the world, monuments are erected as a way of preserving human history and upholding societal values and ethics. They are testament of selfless leadership, valor and bravery of great men and women who have contributed significantly to the development of mankind.

As we all know, this magnificent monument was erected in memory of a valiant woman, Madam Efunroye Tinubu, the first Iyalode of Egbaland and one of the greatest merchants of colonial Lagos.

“It is a celebration of her exploits in the business world and contribution to the foremost status to which our State has attained in the world of commerce and for us as a government and in line with our administration’s commitment to harness the tourism potentials of our State, historical monuments such as this will continue to be given a face lift and outlook.”

And you think their families aren't aware or no adult saw them, and you think they don't deserve to die especially for the fact NO ONE is a SAINT, then why do you think there are REAL bad people who actually deserve to DIE?? Do I need to help you figure this?

There's a difference between sin, a religious invention, and the non-criminal act of self defense as defined the judicial system prevalent in a society - a social construct.

You should all be honest with yourselves, both religions are utter sh!t and we need less and less of it in Nigeria.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Donald Trump Revokes U.S Pro-Abortion Law by Exciton(m): 8:30pm On Jan 24, 2017
A fetus is not a member of society, and so long as it's inside the woman's body, is subject to her will. It has no rights. It doesn't even know it exists. Be grateful the law allows for viable fetuses to be spared from the legality of abortion. One would think that by 6 months gestation, the woman will have had enough time to decide if she wants to keep it or not. After that, an abortion is called induced labor. The point to abortion is the cessation of a pregnancy. The consequences to the fetus or embryo are irrelevant. You have no right to tell someone what to do with their body when the consequences of those actions will never, ever have any impact on you whatsoever. An abortion never once caused someone to be too impaired to drive...at best, maybe anesthesia might, but like any procedure that uses general anesthesia, people are forbidden from driving for the rest of that day. If they do anyway, it wasn't the abortion itself that caused whatever accident to happen. The procedure performed is irrelevant to the presence of anesthetic drugs.

Think about this, for example: does a complete stranger have the right to take your internal organs without your permission, even if you're the only match on earth and that person will die without it/them? No. You are the only person who has the right to your organs. If someone else dies because they can't use your organs, that's not your problem. Likewise, it's not the woman's problem if the embryo or fetus can't survive without stealing HER organs and blood supply. A fetus is a parasitic entity that survives by attaching itself to, and siphoning nutrients from, a host organism...the mother. Its right to remain attached until birth is dictated solely by the woman. If at any point she changes her mind on allowing the fetus to remain inside her body, she retains the right to remove it, just like someone who wants to get rid of bot fly larva in their skin, or tape worms in their intestines. You have no right to force them to carry THOSE parasites to the natural point of exit...so what makes you think you have the right to legislate forcing a woman to carry a potentially fatal pregnancy to term?

Although brutal, this is a very strong argument I culled from somewhere (can't remember the name of the guy that posted this unfortunately). This is something for pro-life guys to think about.

I don't know whether all Russian literature writers at that time swore an oath to make their plots long and windy.
Lolita by Vladmir Nabakov was also the same.
Everyone's been recommending that book to me now. I'll shelve it. Definitely a to read.

Ah Ishiguro novels always have that effect. That man had an innate talent for digging deep and touching you down inside....

Add "The remains of the day" too to that list. Powerful stuff

I've actually read all 13 books in the Ender series; from Enders Game to Shadow of the hegemon to speaker for the dead.
Orson branched out from Ender in those books and talked about different characters though.
Unless you're committed to sci-fi; you would have trouble adjusting.

Ah; I also have problems arranging my fiction list. That's why I just put down the first books that come to my mind.
No rushes. cheesy
I want to drown in academia too but my mind just ain't agreeing with me embarassed

Wow! I neither have the time nor the will to read all 13 books of the Ender series.

I also enjoy lots of sci-fi. Ann Leckie's Imperial Radch trilogy and Hannu Rajaniemi's Jean Le Flambeur series are new age sci-fi novels I'd recommend if you haven't already read them.

And fantasy (maybe not entirely because of the controversy): Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses is a must read.

Most people nowadays don't have "patience" for heavy thousand paged books and eloquently written plots.
The copy of The Brothers Kamazarov I bought was 1632 pages.

It's a pity because the book is so thought provoking and such a masterpiece.

I read The Idiot by Fyeodor too....and was not disappointed.
In fact; I'm on the hunt for his books. Got any good ones smiley

As for Kaguro; I'm honestly wondering why he is not usually mentioned in The pantheons of Great writers.

I normally don't "do" emotions but damn! That book touched me sad sad

Those two books are in my Literary Valhalla and ain't gonna leave anytime soon grin

I also have a list of some pretty good science books but most are non-fiction and the OP constricted me with 5, so......

Here goes my fiction list

1) Stranger in a strange Land : Robert Heinlein

2) Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy : Douglas Adams

3) Enders Game : Orson Scott Card

4) Alas Babylon

5) A canticle for leibowitz

6) Starship Troopers

7) The moon is a harsh Mistress

cool Foundation : Isaac Asimov

9) Nightfall : Isaac Asimov

10) Sphere : Micheal Cricthon* (not sure bout that spelling)...

I love reading smiley smiley

As for history, well, I don't really fancy that genre anymore.
I'll be willing to read some good books on it tho. Can u recommend any

Nice!

Just like Fyodor's novels that's usually around 1000+ pages, Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina is just the same and it's a must read, a goddamn classic!

While the only Kaguro's novel I've read is Never Let Me Go. It's very emotional. I'll add yours to my wish list.

Please don't stop at Enders Game. You need to read Speaker for the Dead!! I feel it's the best in the Ender series. Also heard Ender's Shadow is great but I'm yet to read it.

As for a fiction list, i have to think about the best ones I've read. In fact, I haven't read fiction in a while as I'm drowning in physics books atm. But I hope to be back to fiction soonest.

However, you can always check goodreads, mobilism and bookzz. They're jewels for those who read.

There are a lot of excellent books and these things are subjective but in my view everyone should read these books before they die, or God will have some interesting questions for you

1. THE OZIDI SAGA by J P CLARK
It's amazing the number of Nigerians who have never read this book. How can you claim to love books but you've never read arguably the magnum opus? If I were to pick a book by a Nigerian author everyone should read, this is it. The perfect retelling of an African legend, our own Iliad.

2. 1984 by GEORGE ORWELL

If you want to know fear, read this book.

3. A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME by STEPHEN HAWKING

If you know nothing about science and you're looking for a book that explains in layman's terms the things that the experts say with big grammar without really explaining......this is the book for you

4. WATERSHIP DOWN by RICHARD ADAMS

Simple and effective, sometimes the best writing isn't the most complex but the one that touches you the most. You can't read this without crying once or twice

5. A SHORT HISTORY OF NEARLY EVERYTHING by BILL BRYSON

From the title I think you get the general idea

P.S I wanted to include the bible, but if you don't already know you should read that then you're on a long thing

It's funny (and kinda contradictory honestly) that you have number 3&5 in your list but also think the Bible is a must.

To think that you compared this institution with Harvard is really mind boggling, non of the Nigerian universities(private/public), is among first 800 universities in the world, so where does quality education come to play? Our educational system is a serious joke; a system whereby most lecturers find it difficult to do in-depth research, plagiarism is the order of the day. Lecturers still lecture students with 1st and 2nd edition of foreign textbooks, while the 10th edition has already been reviewed and in use. I'm of the opinion that any parent who can effortlessly send his/her ward to a private university should do the child some good by sending him/her to a not so expensive school abroad. About the scholarship scheme; you forget it's equally a business enterprise that's expected to have large profit(turnover).

That's the really crazy thing! Their only defense is that quality education doesn't come on a cheap. And then you wonder what exactly they mean by "quality" education.

No private university in Nigeria has the equipment to conduct any bloody scientific research. Neither do they have well renowned professors that are active in research. It's still the same pool of shitty naija lecturers they employ from. In fact, they have the lowest number of professors. The only thing they have is empty buildings that's a bit fine on the outside, greeneries, and no strike action.

These people don't understand that quality education isn't about buildings but having the teachers who will spark creativity and critical thinking in their wards as well as the equipment to be able to carry out independent research.

The real question is: why the hell do these churches feel they need to build universities?

As it's more charitable to the poor masses to use the money to equip existing universities and research institutes to become world class standard.

I stand to disagree with you. Government should be held responsible for unfriendly industrial environment in Nigeria. Government mines & sells our oil without proper accountability to the citizens. Government still go ahead to Institute heavy taxes & dues on industries without considering the negative effects on employment. Now industries can't cope, resultant closures has set in. Government feels they are no more getting much from extortion due to few operating industries, now being envious of the men of God who labor heavily in marathon fasting & many nights of prayers intreating the Almighty to intervene in the lives of those frustrated by our government, studying the scripture ceaselessly to receive words of comfort for the hopeless due to bad governance, building hope & faith and telling those without god fathers nor long leg that they can make it with God. Testimonies are now erupting as the result of their hard work and government is now intruding. Why should churches pay task? Did the government provide any soft landing for them? A lot of government officials are sitting on the common wealth of the entire nations and are enriching their pockets & yet they are number one tax eveders. We have a government that reap where they do not sow. In this 21st century, Nigerian government can't boast of supplying clean table water to its citizens neither supply electricity to a reasonable length of time & yet come & see where they are pursuing petty women traders, extorting from them the little that isn't enough to put food on their table talk less burning fuel in her little tiger generator, all in the name of local & state government revenue. We have wolves as leaders. Let the government remove greed from their lives, Nigeria will achieve industrialization with the spirit of entrepreneurship burning in our youths.

Of course the government is culpable but I fully disagree with you and others who are against seguntijan. Nigerian religion actively contributes to corruption and the poor state of the nation. Religious leaders like Rev Martin Luther King stood up against the evils of the society in their time. Our religious leaders are nothing more than political tools to gather votes.

Religious leaders have the moral responsibility to stand up and speak against corrupt politicians and evil acts in the society. But ours never do this. None of them have spoken against the death, starvation and humanitarian crises in the north east. None of the pentecostal leaders have spoken against Fulani herdsmen killings and called Buhari out on his lack of interest in solving any of these major crises. The best they can do is offer some pitiful donation that doesn't solve any problem. Why?

Here is why. Churches and mosques receive lots of money from corrupt politicians and people. Your pastors don't refuse these corrupt "tithes, gifts and offerings". These makes them morally handicapped. They can no longer express their views even if they had one because they have collected stolen money... money meant for infrastructural development of the nation has been diverted into building megachurches and acquiring private jets.

You and others have to face the fact. These religious leaders are morally corrupt, lack the transparency required of non-profit organizations around the world and ultimately contribute to the decay of societal values by advocating for miracles and "divine" favour (aka corruption and non-meritocracy) over hard work, honesty, critical thinking, questioning our leaders etc.

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Ajaokuta was already an obsolete Soviet relic back in 1982, and steel production technology has moved on since then. Even efficient European and American steel producers are unable to compete with the Chinese, who have a serious domestic overcapacity problem, which they are trying to solve by dumping abroad.

Steel is a low-margin commodity business, and the Nigerian obsession with it just betrays ignorance and an obsession with prestige projects over economic realities. The truth is that the only people who have benefited from Ajaokuta over the last 40 years are politicians looking for an easy way to steal public funds.

I don't understand why anyone would want to do PG in Naija (especially in science). Naija education is one of the greatest frauds ever unleashed upon her citizens. The so-called professor know nothing apart from what they were taught decades ago!

Both private and public universities neither have good professors nor the necessary equipment to carry out research. People who go to private schools only pay for finishing early and lower teacher-student ratio. Even the best of these private universities have no SEM, TEM, XRD, optics lab, clean room etc.

I can confidently say that most Naija research papers are a complete lie - they create fictitious data. If it's experimental based, how do these people characterize their materials when they've got no equipment? If they wanna send their samples outside for measurement, most don't have the means to keep their samples stable, non-contaminated or non-oxidized. If it's theoretical computations, we certainly don't have big and strong computers for that in Naija. We don't even have the electricity to keep these equipment running 24/7 in the first place.

I've heard people buy distilled/DI water in kegs (WTF!!!). The best we had in my department in those days was a simple UV-Vis spectrophotometer that you can make yourself.

I only have this advise: look for a PhD degree outside Naija. Preferably US, Canada or Europe and make sure you fully understand the theory no matter how long it takes. But most importantly, learn everything you need to build those devices!

I have lost 4 years or more of my life just because I was born Nigerian. But we shall continue in our pursuit of fulfilling our dreams nonetheless!

It's still the same humiliation. Being treated like you're subhuman.

However, we are already used to it, so badly that we don't realize it. Being treated like horseshit by everyone: the rich elite, the government, politicians, immigration at international airports etc without feeling ashamed.

Can't you see he's hurting his wife with his useless ego?
Can a woman do this and get away with it? Ordinary 9mths pregnancy, we see them opening thread, asking how they'll cope. Then their kinds arrive with the side-chick advice.

But naija women also don't workout and don't have nice toned long legs with flat bellies, flawless skin, and all that. We are all culpable. We neither have a fitness culture nor eat good food in our country. Always 98% rice and garri, and 1.8% beef... almost no veggies. That's why most people over 30 look like crap.

But I don't agree with you. She shouldn't get a very big d'ildo. She should get loads of very big d'ildos with different shapes and texture! She should add an'al beads and bu'tt plugs to fully explore her options! grin grin When or if her guy can get it up, she'll Bleep him into a coma. Hehehe.
