If u got those 4250 horsepower locomotives, they will damage the tracks in Nigeria,as it would be incapable of running on them
Remember OBJ awarded the chinese a $8billion, contract to modernize the tracks. . but it was cancelled by yar adua

who instead ordered new more powerful locomotives for the existing tracks. . .

bottom line if its an improvement on the existing ones, then its a good move. . .

and hopefully they will be used more for cargo to decongest the roads
All right, that's fair then.

Anyway, I don't think all this matters much, whether it's freight or not, half the speed of the state-of-the-art, Nigeria has got trains that will get people from A to B.

This looks like the national model for Nigeria's railways because it's on the official banner of the Nigerian Railway Corporation website.

http://www.nrc-ng.org

So much for pictures of the Amtrak, these trains Nigeria ordered just nearly run at half their speed. The pictures of Amtrak trains posted are probably the GE Genesis, some of these run at 3,200 hp and some are even 4,250 horsepower, remember that Nigeria's GE trains run at 2,500 horsepower. It's hard to find anything on tracks now running under 3000hp, that is National lines. The bottom line is that for Nigeria's size and supposed status, these trains are "a start", undecided but they are simply not good enough.

The models will be used for both freight and passenger services. The trains are used in South Africa for freight. The model is the GE C5 Six-axel. It runs at 2,500hp.

Erie, Penn., USA and Lagos, Nigeria (February 5, 2010) - The Nigerian Ministry of Transport and GE Transportation announced today that the Nigerian Railway Corporation has taken delivery of the first five C25 diesel locomotives – introducing new technology to Nigeria’s rail system. The locomotives will be used for both freight and passenger service. The remaining 20 locomotives will be delivered in the second half of 2010.

http://www.getransportation.com/na/en/docs/3238819_1267039926_Nigeria%20Locomotives.pdf
On 5 February, it was announced jointly by the Nigerian ministry of transport and GE Transportation that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has taken delivery of the first five new C25 six-axle diesel-electric locomotives. The balance of the order for 25 units, intended for both freight and passenger service, is to be shipped during the second half of 2010.

. . . .

GE Transportation South America has built GE diesel-electric locomotives including AC44, Dash 9 and the C Series in Brazil since 1967, and has produced more than 1,000 locomotives, operating in over 15 countries around the world. Locomotives similar to the C25 are currently hauling freight in South Africa. Altogether, approximately 17,000 GE locomotives are in use in more than 50 countries around the world.

There's more details on the engine and speed of the train in the above link.

Here's the thing, if Nigeria had bought trains for the era of the Industrial Revolution, we would all be made to look like baddies when we pointed out its low quality, even in a passing remark. There will always be a band of loyal super patriots that will not see anything wrong in Nigeria, the same country that is currently mingling with the most failed of the nations in every aspect imaginable, and they will defend it at all cost, so whatever. undecided

asha 80:
the 'isiagu' cloth and the caps(red, white etc) are improvement or modernisation of the igbo attire.
asha 80:
that is maybe what you should have said instead of saying it affected our olden days way of dressing because quiet frankly there was nothing fantastic about our former way of dressing.
Many people on these boards say things like this without even seeing the whole story of what they are criticising.

The Ozo fez (Okpu agwu) is not new, actually if you were to describe it with a word it would be 'ancient' because it has been worn for at least a 1000 years. The isiagu is a modernisation of something like this: link, or this: link which has been worn for over 1000 years, like the clothing found at the burial site of and unknown Nri nobleman: link.

Most people do not bother to wear these original attires now, which is why most people will talk as if their ancestors never knew cloth making or embroidery.

To be honest, the wears some people have on today can't match the quality of the examples shown above. The practicality of wearing a suit in a climate such as Nigeria's and wearing one of the attires above, or even the more revealing ones cannot be compared.

The original article is from http://www.eutimes.net/2010/06/king-tuts-dna-is-western-european/

This is a quote.

Despite the refusal of the Secretary General of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, Zahi Hawass, to release any DNA results which might indicate the racial ancestry of Pharaoh Tutankhamen, the leaked results reveal that King Tut’s DNA is a 99.6 percent match with Western European Y chromosomes.
I thought as much that you'd provide a source that is Eurocentric. For anyone reading, go to the website and browse their articles and then ask yourself if the source is unbiased and if it is reliable.

Under their 'Crime' category they have options for: "Immigration, Holocaust, Interracial, Theft, Terrorism"

Is this a source you want to hold reliable?

There is no official release of Tutankhamun's ancestry/DNA results. The article above is a piece of garbage that is based on speculation, hopes and wishes. Find proper information from verifiable sources, it will help you a whole lot, and next time you'll put out proper fact.

Ancient Egyptians were not Negroes like u and I. Lets stop the act of always pointing to Ancient Egypt as a positive African past. Just to let you know the mummy of a popular Egyptian Pharaoh , King Tut was tested, and his DNA was western European.
Could you please provide your source.

Ezegu agreed but people tend to enjoy the yoruba fings like Party,Music,Language, but me i like anything that promotes Naija be it edo, ijaw, fulani and so on as far as it says Nigerian. I think you should re-read my previous post.
Of course they do, but that's appreciating culture, it doesn't mean Yoruba people are their lords and masters, plus Lagos plays a very large role in this situation. If you visit Kano, the majority of the people there probably can't even speak English, let alone Yoruba, and if you go to Owerre where they're more exposed, yet the language of everything except some parts of school is Igbo, in these places someone who has never been anywhere else in Nigeria will say they dominate. This is not the first post dealing with this whole dominance issue.

And WHO IS THAT FOOL! THAT SAID D'BANJ SINGS IN IGBOhuh Because of "igwe" do you think you can communicate with him with igbo? He did that song with the help of don jazzy! Not the love for the language. But others can't help it but use it,can't you see Naeto-c "kini" big deal,Akomitipoju, D'prince-Omoba,even if it is one yoruba word they still use like Bigiano Shayo. The only person i like is Nigga raw he tries a lot with igbo, but still he did "Kogbadun" though- i like it when they speak it but people just like the yoruba way alot tribes find it easier dressing like yorubas which is more interesting you seldom find yorubas dress the way others do may be for costume use sha
Uhm, sorry to disappoint you, but the number one reason Igbo musicians play up Yoruba culture is Ego. Yoruba culture is great, fair enough, but money is even greater when it comes to business.

And as for the Yoruba dressing, you mean 'agbada'? People dress like that from Western Nigeria to Senegal, and it's their traditional wear.

Ehen, here they come!

Ruq:
@Poster first westernization started from the west, foreigners enjoy the yoruba language even if they dont understand, alot of other tribes understand yoruba faster than any other language. Lastly Yoruba remains the sweetest! No Offense!
Westernisation started on both fronts. It only seems like Yoruba is the fastest learnt because of Lagos, but in the East Igbo is dominant and in the North Hausa is dominant (including Abuja), just like in the Northeast Kanuri is dominant. Anybody talking about a certain ethnic groups and how it is "so dominance" in the whole of Nigeria, apart from the dominance of it's elites, is chatting trash.

[i]A slum, as defined by the United Nations agency UN-HABITAT, is a run-down area of a city characterized by substandard housing and squalor and lacking in tenure security. According to the United Nations, the proportion of urban dwellers living in slums decreased from 47 percent to 37 percent in the developing world between 1990 and 2005.[3] However, due to rising population, the number of slum dwellers is rising. One billion people worldwide live in slums[4] and the figure will likely grow to 2 billion by 2030.[5]
Population percentage living in slums by the UN HABITAT, Grey = 0, Green = 20-40%, Orange = 60-70%, Dark Red = 90-100%
