I'm a farmer but not a rice farmer. I have farmed cucumber and pepper and reared poultry. But I have interest in rice.

It depends on how u go about it. It won't affect production if u change slowly over a period of 2 weeks. Start by mixing old and new feed in a ratio of say, 90:10. Then gradually increase the qty of new feed until it reaches 100% by day 14. I dont need to tell u that what will happen if the new feed is low quality. Rather than test it on the whole birds, divide them into 4 groups or so and test it on one group.

To add, female body wt is v. Imp since it influences body wt and delivery. A female that is too small wrt piglets weight will hav problem giving birth.

I think so too. I'm yet to see where organic farming is practiced on a large scale. I think it will be risky to rely solely on organic. I prefer combining both.

I 100% agree with you on my mistakes and I learnt the hard way. I also forgot to mention that the land owner came harassing me for the remaining 170k which I took up to the local authority, we are yet to hear the final judgement but I was told is either the man calculates my money base on the hectare I use and give me back my remaining money or I use the land again for the next year planting season and also having a 2hectares for my maize and casava running till 2020, a very nice apartment and also a standard storage facility.

Really the experience and the exposure I have got aside farming but also on commodities outweighs the pain and also haven to leave among the farmers and learn so tricks has really really paid off not to talk of the contacts and influence made among the locals. Now am a legitimate citizen rooting the whole angles of the community like they are mine.

The greatest question am facing now is should I continue my journey there or pack my bags and move to the west which I don't think I can find such vast land in Lagos to farm rice neither can I find it in Port Harcourt except I relocate to Oyo state which I will have to start all over again by getting used to the locals.

The fact that few people dupe u does not mean all the locals are like that. So it's better u stay there, especially if u can find gud tractor service.

I'll advise u start with crops bc of the low startup cost. And probably start with short-term crops like cucumber, pepper, watermelon, vegetables. Find the market first and learn the crop agronomy practices from google and thru realtime farmers. Where is ur locatn?

@Fadphil u made lots of mistakes. In bizness, i wont advice u to put ur whole trust on sb, esp sb u dont know well enof. If u cant farm sth all by urself, take time and learn it b4 patnering. If u learn from this experience and dont give, u'll achieve greater things to the shame of schemers.

Feed them more of grass. Be very careful when u feed ruminants things like corn, and other high carbohydrate

I have been thinking. Cucumber roots usually come out to the soil surface between rows. Assuming u cover or shield the plant and apply glyphosphate, won't it be absorbed by the roots?

These birds are mean oo. Another strategy I once read is high tech. It involves using electronic rays to detect bird approaching the farm. When detected, it triggers rocket-propelled firecracker that will scare off the birds. This one may be unreacheable for most farmers.

I love this thread. On the long run, I will consider using solar to power the cold room, biogas to power gen. Thanks evryone.

The birds are intelligent and adaptive. The siren will work for a few days. When they notice that it's not harming them, they will start ignoring it.

One way to achieve relative success with the siren is to vary the type and pattern of noise coming from it. And not to make it continuous.

Scarecrows are the easiest for the birds to get used to. The birds are so 21st century.

The inflatable human effigy that you find at children's parties will probably work better than motionless scarecrows. Combining this with irregular high pitch noise can have relative success...provided the population of the birds in your locality is minimal.

The guy u are attacking is right. U talk as if work shud be dead in us. But that is not what the bible teaches. Philippians 3:12- I do not claim that I have already become perfect. I keep striving to win the prize for which christ jesus has already won me to himself. Ephessians 2:8-10 made use know that grace stopped our useless wk and start God's useful wk in us. Also remember that faith without wk is dead- James 2. Grace teaches us to say no to ungodliness-Titus 2:11-12. B4 u can say no to fornication or ungodly musics, u need to make a conscious effort even as u pray. U dont just relax and say that u depend on Christ's righteousness. That's just one way people use to deceive themselves.

The answer to this questn can be complicated. How will flesh show up? In what form? Remember that there are sins that must not be mentioned among christians. Somebody shud not go and fornicate, murder, smoke, get drunk, listen to ungodly music, watch porn etc once in a while and tell be the flesh have to show up sometimes.
