Though it's almost 10 years old I was able to get some data on page 58 of http://nigerianstat.gov.ng/download/169

It shows almost 500,000 non Nigerians entered the country.

It didn't tell me where they went or how much they spent.

Nice, it's helpful to some extent, that's the problem we have over here ,we rarely update records or data .

Well if you have anybody good in financial modeling with some parameters can project what the figures would look like today

Cheers

From your post, I can assure you that the level of your patriotism isn't up to mine.

That settled, I am an optimist and as such I believe that as long as there is room for change then it is possible

I had the opportunity of tagging along with a visitor from the UK recently and you will be amazed at the things that amused him, things like the weather, our hospitality, slave relics at badagry etc. These are things that don't necessarily need the best infrastructures to function

I previously mentioned that foreign investors seem to be thriving well in our hotel and leisure sector, it might also interest you to know that all 5 and 4 star hotels are currently running on 24 hours electricity, obviously they generate a considerable amount of the power they use privately but the revenue they derive from operating their business is fully capable of covering the cost

What we need is foreign and local investors like this, conglomerates that are willing to tap into our largely untapped tourism potential e.g. cruise companies who are willing to take advantage of our taste for "the good life" which drives many to spend $$$$ abroad

There is no country in the world with 0 crime rate except in Israel but we seem to magnify ours to a ridiculous level

Once one mentions tourism potential, someone else will mention Boko Haram but is Boko Haram on our water ways, are they in other states besides Maiduguri?

Wherever one is operating a business, such a company must pay close attention to cooperate social responsibility, employ indigenes etc all this will help alleviate security issues

Nigeria is a great country.
d

Felt good reading your write up, I can't but meet you a point-solutions to our woes, any way we still need to improve on our delivery to match world standard which I believe with the right mindset ,policy we will be able to achieve.

On a lighter note below refers

Once one mentions tourism potential, someone else will mention Book Haram but is Boko Haram on our water ways, are they in other states besides Maiduguri?

Don't go organize boat/ ship cruise full of white people in the niger delta as they will just kidnap them and collect ransom

What if someone says "You will not progress in the next two decades" How does this sound to you my brother? Sometimes we need to weigh our words before we spew them.

Looking on the bright side, Nigeria has been able to attract huge foreign investment in our tourism industry, in particular most foreign investors have chosen to invest in our hotel and leisure sector

A visit to many of these places will leave you "wowed!"

That said, we have travel agencies that facilitate visits to many of our tourists sites

For easy access to tourism and leisure spots, contact a trust worthy travel agency or conduct tour own online research

Nigeria is a great country.

Sir don't get me wrong , I am a realist ,if there is a scale to measure level of patriotism I believe mine will be higher than yours.
Back to the matter, Nigeria is a very great country well endowed with resources and other good things,I have travelled far and wide this country and we do have the potentials for tourism attraction, the negative is just government policy, our attitude to make things work in this country , I am no saying tourism growth and development cannot be fast tracked in this country but we lack the will and discipline to achieve this.

Sir take a look at the following ,just to mentioned a few how have we been able to deliver on these

1.Effective and efficient power supply
2.Refinery
3.infrastructural development.

Also I would want you to take a census of the volumes of NIgerians that go for holiday/tourism in UK,US,Europe etc and compare with the influx we receive as tourist in Nigeria ,by my own assessment. If the latter is greater than the former I will conclude that we are doing well in terms of tourism,we can achieve improvement in this sector in the medium term if we as a people(government, private sector and individual) execute flawless policies in this regards.

Thank you ,

My people see how much money that Tunisia is making on tourism.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/15/africa/tunisian-tourism-terror/index.html

Do we have international tourism coming into Nigeria at all?

I doubt the marketability of tourism in this country due to :

1.lack of maintenance of tourist structures
2.poor/lack of awareness of existing tourist centers
3.the volatility of the country-terrorism,badoo, etc.

Who would want to visit a place to explore tourist attractions without being guaranteed of his safety,we need to do a lot of work to achieve this , I doubt we can catch-up even in the next two decades

All these inadequacies still sterm frm insincerity on the part of the FG to enforce all their verbal options n work the talk and the continous milking of the customers at the back of the mind of the DISCOs. By and large, the customers are at their mercy and we can only hope, wc seem our last resort that sanity prevail on all sides soonest.

Good talk bros, I am just appalled by the lack of political ,social and economical will of the government to follow through on its policies.

I pray we see changes soon, which I believe should be catalysef by the consumers nationwide spelling out the terms and conditions of operations of the discos and gencos, to be frank since inception of these energy provider I have not being able to quantify meaning and measurable achievement from them ,this makes me to resolve we go back to the status quo-NEPA and PHCN era ,at least then they have human face to solving issues ,though not the best due to the bane of corruption ,but Atleadt things get done faster.

labour ;400k & woods 450k?

If stucco gulps about 1.4m, what about coloured longspan? i knw it is more expensive than stucco...Meaning he is going to spend close to 5m for shingles if he is spending 2.3m for stucco?

500k should be able to takecare of wood & labour
800k takecare of the stucco.

That guy is a criminal, just get different quotes, compare prices, I will advise you go find out the prices of the type of woods and roof type required for your project.

They are just here to rip people off their hard earned money, at the end of the day you just discover that with 60% of quoted amount you can achieve and exceed you roofing project needs

This's no more an excuse.

The NERC with the other agency responsible for meter standardization should order DISCOS to install meters provided by consumers, in as much as it meets approved standard.

They should also publicize a list of all licensed vendors, for consumers to patronize.

The capitalist and corrupt tendencies in them will not make them allow this, meter manufactures have been in the country for years producing standardardised meters even before the creation of these gencos, discos and the so called transformers or transmission companies
Politics / Re: Metering Of Customers Not Exclusive Right Of Discos – Fashola by Flaghouse1: 8:50am On Aug 15, 2017
deolu2000:

So i think what Mr. Fashola is saying/proposing will really work if the FG can be sincere enough to make licensing of the meter manufacturers a smooth and workable process. Because i don't get it, whats the big deal in the Discos allowing me to sources for my meters from independent marketers while they only activate on their platform for me. This delay tactics by the discos simply show that not metering us is truely to their gain and a means of swindling n embezzeling on the customers.

Your postulation is very plausible, these manufacturers are there already, the discos refuse patronising them, that the intergrity and quality assurance of the meters are questionable due to local content input-which I feel was just a ploy to discredit the use of such meters with the sole aim of using estimated billing to grow their BOTTOMLINE astronomically at the detriment of the subscribers.

The issue has been dragging foot for over 3years now, the discos will tell you to pay for metres, upon payment. You find it difficult to get one allocated to you with the normal story of we are expecting metres, we do it in batches .you keep hearing this excuses for months ,until palms are greased before you are allocated one once the new batches are deployed.

My expectation is that there should be a synergy with the manufactures, discos and consumers to design a flow process that once the consumers pay,a notification with consumers details are forwarded to the nearest discos ,who In turn receive's the metre and do the necessary checks before installation,if well articulated the process should not take more than a month or two from payment to installation, they can be creative by engaging the services of KONGA AND JUMIA for delivery to discos with the required details of shipment.

We just complicate easy process in the country to the detriment of the common man, mind you developed countries are moving away from the traditional way of supply electricity to going green-solar energy,Tesla comes to mind.
Politics / Re: Metering Of Customers Not Exclusive Right Of Discos – Fashola by Flaghouse1: 1:47am On Aug 15, 2017
deolu2000:
If NERC n FG are sincere, they should licence willing suppliers and importers of meters so that we can easily get the product at a fee, instead of waiting for eternity on the promise of the DISCOs to meter customers for free wc has never been implemented all in the bid to keep swindling the electricity consumers through crazy estimated bills.

Sir,we already have meter manufactures in Nigeria, but lack of patronage from the disco who prefer international manufactures is stalling the rapid deployment of these meters to consumers.

Fantastic, i love your story... Very nice one...which is why i tell people it's important we cultivate and propagate healthy relationships..truth be told every relationship has a value that can come out to be different things down the line.. Can you see why i suggested both of us reduce cutting relationships short? forget our current income and all, relationships are priceless, and though why this generation is funny, we all should learn to find meaningful relationships and cultivate them, not giving up on people that entirely mess up...You dig?

Right, the society today is not in congruence with what we observed when growing up,youths of today are on the fast lane make money by all means.

Yesterday a young chap I mentored called me for a business transaction, I hot to the place met him and his friend. We saw the contact man interested in buying off land I intend disposing in an estate, after our meeting the contact person just told me to hang around that he will contact the real buyer within an hour to fix appointment to firm up the deal.

To my suprise ,the guy called my mentee to tell him that the gain he is going to make is really not much from my deal, that he has been told of another offer within same locale which seems profitable, my guy just told him why not open up to the man and he will accede to your increase in gain from the deal, he then told my mentee not to inform me about latest development.

Surprisingly, upon investigation I found out that the chap standing with my mentee when I got to the place ,has gone to the guy to present a farce that a land is available ,when I told my mentee that it's that your friend that did this thing he was shocked ,he too later confirmed it,see the extent people go for money.

Let me gist you mine bro...i like the way we gist, a man contacted me to do audio visuals, billboard, graphics, web site for his school, his church, web store for his business, on the way to his place, the pressure of the huge job, i was hasty, i ruined my neatly ironed clothes with sweat, so i tarried a while on the road, bought a white handkerchief to clean the sweat off my face, do you believe i lost the job because the guy kept starring at my handkerchief? He technically was looking at me cleaning the sweat and assumed i was trying to charm him for the job...funny enough when i discussed with his wife, she liked me, turned out we both attended the same church through teenage and we were both actively involved..

What am i trying to say Sir, the man despite how i handled the presentation flawlessly evaluated me based on the white handkerchief and not on performance....i learnt from that experience.. now this is the moral of my story, when people have things, toys, benefits, they tend to play superior and disconnect other people.. the facebook lady has maybe her comfort and swag, the guy has his believes and his perspectives and everybody is playing their own cards and thinking life would fit into their own ideologies and belief system, but compromise is key in life, marriage, ministry,business....

Fast-forward 18 months, i now have my business, the man who chose not to hire me may hire someone else better or equal or lesser than my skillset, but, it's best to be open to people to me, to tolerate people, and not be spontaneous in cutting people off, because while our benefits remain with us when we refuse to let ourselves out, for other people that stretch out, they tend to have a yield, or a loss in a bad experience..Life isn't black and white..

Finally, the lady didn't open up a bit.. the guy flipped like I would have, not being a better man, that man didn't give me the project, but life moves on..however opportunity doesn't come everyday, there are things we need to seize my brother..hence i stand with the op 100%...and you are right at not being patient thesedays with people, stupiidtty is the newest endemic

Our reasoning in this part of continent is so warped, imagine somebody believing you will charm him with handkerchief-people like that sorry to say may be Christians but inside of them believe more of native stuff than hope in God to make thins flow.

Back to the issue we cannot be 100% correct as humans ,but I wanted the Op to reason and learn from all the criticism he is getting from the forum, there are people in this country today may not have 500 k in their account but if they give you note refer you, thier names open doors,so the Op feels he has arrived life itself is not does not revolve around him, my first job was gotten from somebody I least expected , the man was married ,jobless money was tight to feed was a problem ,once he talks about it whatever I have I split into two folds as little as N500.00 those days .one day he just told me that do you know you saved lives yesterday there was nothing in the house to eat, By providence he got a job after 2years , as soon as opportunities came up he just told me give me your Cv and the rest was story ,the was excellent back in the days.
That is why I say who will help will help you-all he needed to do with all sincerity is to call her or see her physically to tell her of the job opportunity

No doubt his selective method may be far from perfect but subjugation brother isn't it too far?

I don't believe in cutting off ties personally, but rather work with people to sharpen and smoothen their rough edges...afterall no one is perfect...one that cuts off relationships too quick may also be the same as the guy that's been criticized by your comments Sir

I like your reasoning pattern, really you don't just cut off relationship too quick, but when you observe a pattern for years you just need to isolate yourself from such people,I don't know how old you are but with my years on earth and experiences (personal and inferred) I will advise you not to stick around people with tendencies relating to our discourse.

I use to be free with people ,but with time realized it's just not worth it, sacrifice your arm and leg for friends ,relations in times of need you will be disappointed.I have personally funded a relations trip abroad as I write you simple "singlet or boxers"not sent in appreciation of the effort.

So there's this woman whom I know from teaching her son as a home tutor. She just said to me that there's a vacancy in ECOWAS where a bilingual officer is wanted on part-time wif a tax-free annual salary of 15,000 dollars which means a monthly pay of 1,250 dollars per month and that's approximately 393,750 naira every month.

She broke this news to me because she thought I could speak French fluently but nah I lost interest in the language after highschool. So for the offer not to go by without someone I know getting the position I told the woman to give me time that I know of someone who is perfect for the job.

Then here comes the part of the girl wif name Nneoma—not her real name.
We went to the same P school and she got admitted to a reputable Uni in the east. Her course, linguistics.
So in order to tell her about the job, I sent her a friend's request buh after some days of waiting I got no notification whether she accepted me or not and at my facebook page where I have my sent requests, I checked and to my astonishment I saw nothing.
Then to be sure I wasn't mistaken I searched her name again and on her profile the “add friend” button happen to have disappeared. That moment I didn't even know what happened to me; I was totally shocked thinking about why she had just blocked me.
Oh was she thinking I was trying to befriend her?
Otherwise wtf did she block me for.
Wif no other option left I said to myself nna mehn see person wey I wan help dey form big girl fer me when my girlfriend is like 10times more beautiful than she is and even more intelligent.
So I went back to the woman and told her she should give the job to another person.
So this is it my people wah do y'all think? Drop your comments.

Meanwhile
The girl when thinking she has blocked me not knowing she blocked 393,725 naira per month..
Me:

Highly dissaapointed you acted so immature, why contact her on Facebook, don't you have her number to send text or call or better still get across to someone who can contact her to get in touch with her as regards the job offer.

My assessment of you is,you are egoistic .its people like you that will render people small assistance and make noise about it to the whole world .

Hello Guys.

This will be the first time I'll be asking for relationship advice on here since I've been on Nairaland

I've been dating this girl for some months now,I really love her a lot but she has some issues

Lemme explain, when we started dating she was the perfect girl until after about a month, I noticed any time she was with my phone she would go through my WhatsApp. Any time I confront her about it she'll accuse of me of cheating and hiding things from her and because of the that we had a big fight, I tried calling her to apologize but she avoided my calls,it was not until she got into a fight with one of her friends because she was checking his WhatsApp that she apologized and we settled.
Now to the latest,I observed that she loved reporting every little issue we have to my friends, which I don't like (I like my privacy) she actually reported our relationship to a friend of mine who I'm not in talking terms with, in the course of the guy trying to intervene, he insulted me so much, he called me a liar so many times and I couldn't do anything cos my girlfriend was the one who involved him. After the chat I got in touch with my girlfriend and told her politely that I didn't like the way she carried our relationship issues to my friends, that my friends' girlfriends never reported their issues to me they way she did to them and she exploded, she called names, she started crying saying I should give her space because I'm making her regret getting into the relationship. Now she hasn't answered my calls since then.
She doesn't respect me at all,she makes me feel as if I'm maltreating her, she doesnt take anything i say and does anything she sees fit. please should I continue with the relationship or not.

PS: she's the only daughter of her family, could it be the reason she acts like this?

Forget about marriage with her, if she can discuss your relationship issues with external parties.

Also give her space don't be blinded by love, she may not be faithful to you 100%

Sammyramires:
Heraclitus of Ephesus (c. 500 BCE) was known to his contemporaries as the 'dark’ philosopher, so-called because his writings were so difficult to understand. Seeming to hold the common understanding of the nature of life and the purpose of human life in contempt (as, in fact, he seemed to hold most, if not all, the human beings he came in contact with).

However, following in the traditions of the earlier Pre-Socratic philosophers, Heraclitus of Ephesus expounded a physical theory of matter and the physical world much along the lines of Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes, but took the ideas further in his famous assertion that “Life is Flux” (Panta Rhei in Greek, meaning everything or all things change).

If one understands that change is the only constant thing in life then one will more easily recognise what Heraclitus is saying in his 'obscure' writings when he claims such things as, “The way up and the way down are one and the same. Living and dead, waking and sleeping, young and old, are the same. These things are the same in that they are all subject to change, arise from one change to vanish into another change.

Meanwhile, Heraclitus popular quote of "The only thing that Is constant Is change", better summed up the latest habits of Nigerians who has found a solace in smoking Goza, Narghile, Hookah or Shisha as the name may appear.

According to research, there is a daily increase in number of people smoking shisha in Nigeria than any other African country. As a matter of fact, more people are dumping cigarette smoking for Shisha with most believing that Shisha puffing does not attract the same risk as cigarette does.

However, Shisha pipes use tobacco sweetened with fruit or molasses sugar, which makes the smoke more aromatic than cigarette smoke. Popular flavourings include apple, plum, coconut, mango, mint, strawberry and cola. Wood, coal, or charcoal is burned in the shisha pipe to heat the tobacco and create the smoke because the fruit syrup or sugar makes the tobacco damp.

Aside the contents that seems sweet before ears, Shisha puffing remains a deadly practice that needs to be curtailed if possible.

It is shameful to say the least in our country today, when a Five year old boy/kid is seeing holding the pipe, puffing and inhaling what Shisha produces after a snuff.

If care is not taken, we might witness a situation where a 7 day old baby will adopt the habit of puffing Shisha in place of breast milk.

Looking at this obvious anomaly as a neutral, one would agree that the country and her citizenry of different age are gradually turning to "A generation of Pipe Holding", but the question is:

How Did We Get Here?

Lol. No. I'm just trying to be a Renaissance Man.

That nice, awake the conscience of our youths on pertinent issues in the global atmosphere because these days I don't understand what is their passion .
If you are Renaissance man, what would you call me?

Nice but I fear for what chips in the human system is capable of. I'd not let anyone implant me with any chip, unless I built the chip or have a hundred percent understanding of how it works.

One thing I noticed about us is the pace which we maintain when we catch up. We may be very poor in terms of technological advancement but once we get hold of any technology, it spreads like wildfire among us. Look at how we handled phones.

Another thing now is that the world is globalized. Any new invention or trend can reach the entire continent, even homosexuality (lol). The only thing that could hold back an invention or idea from manifesting here is the policies of government.

Your last paragraph is true ,this can affect development positively or negatively depending on sincerity of our politicians.

The problem I see in our country in terms of technological trend is the way we tend to over hype simple gadgets here- iPhones. Pad ,watches et al, why don't we as nation create a technology hub to address our deficiencies in terms of life style, agriculture, technology etc. to come up with inventions-top notch to better our lives.
As for the implant stuff, whites will never come up and tell you the effects on the body and possible security risk of this chip to the individual, I also believe it to be a ploy for other nations like our Nigerians to embrace such technology and use it as a source of information gathering for their use -we need to be careful though.

I appreciate your deep sense of reasoning on this discourse, hope you are not a research fellow oooo!

Are you sure? Because I think almost every job will go extinct. Teachers will be nonexistence and schools will not exist either.

Writers and bloggers will have no audience because our communication system will change into Dolphin-like means of communication.

Military men? Have you watched Equilibrium? Emotions responsible for wars will be subdued and no one will fight. Sounds crazy right?

Paramedic? What For? When cell and tissue regenerative substances would have been created and everyone treats themselves?

I've got more but let me just stop here. I think if this world doesn't come to an end by our making or a supernatural power, humans will live like zombies in the next 200 hundred years. I agree with Christian Bale's Movie, Equilibrium. Some persons feel they own this earth and decide how others think and act.

Nice postulation/reasoning I believe the writer is taking into cognizanceand limiting this discourse to our Nigerian environment which is developing at snail speed rather than the global perspective.

Recently a company(IT) in US just developed a chip the size of rice grain implanted in the palms of its staff with which they can open doors to their house ,office . Also pay for items purchased and carry out some other normal daily basic technology related activities.

The big question now is when will this happen in Nigeria?

Respect!
