If all bank customers are like you, how will banks make money
Every customer cannot be like me. Most banks have Mega money holders/owner that gets better and more reliable services. Even at that, they still make money from customers like me too.

They will make money because like every other customer if I was to collect loan from them, I will pay them back at the agree interest rate and timeframe. If not it gets restructured at their terms. Also I do transfers and get charged. I subscribe TB other investment through them and get charged.

I use ATM cards of some of them that to me are reasonably reliable (I buy the ATM card and pay them for its maintenance quarterly). Where I am not close to my bank, I used other banks ATM which most times are deliberately set-up to dispense only 10k & this get me to pay them extra charges if I am to withdraw more than N30,000.

Like every customer, I buy check booklets and in some banks in deposit Slips from them at premium prices.

Sometimes, if I mistakenly leave any reasonable money on my account, they use it for their own business and may not even bother to give me any returns on it. Thank God for them, the CBN has made it easier for them by drastically reducing the interest rates on savings.

They send their customers unsolicited test messages which sometimes may not deliver but to customers but they get charged for it...

I collect my bank statement from them for a fee. Same is for the collection of the letter of non indebtedness.

Will all the above and more they will still make money if all of their customers are like me.

How many bank accounts, do you have?

Just trying to change the topic of discussion.

I have just 2

A personal accounts and a corporate account
I have about 13 if not mistaken. Though I rarely have money in all of them but one thing I learnt with these banks is that except you have mega money, they are not always reliable. So any time I feel like, I open any bank I don't have before.

For example I am trying to ease myself from MMF to TB now that rates are are gradually improving and the plan was to do it gradually by spreading my little funds across many auction. I applied last TB auction with Stanbic and was told it wasn't successful. Did same again this week but haven't heard from them yet. If it does not sail through this time, na to move to another bank be that. That won't be easy I restrict myself to just a bank

I am a salary earner. Used a current account with one bank for just about 7 years then they started having issues with their service and unnecessary closure of branches. I have to collect letter of Non-indebtedness and move to my other bank current account. No time...

That's just about it..just for convenience...
NYSCRe: NYSC Not A Waste Of Time, Says DG by freeman67: 7:47pm On May 26, 2021
Yes there is need to restructure some things to suit the present situation of the country. That said, I am in agreement that the scheme shouldn't be scrapped for so many reasons. Before I proceed, I will say that is easier for those that did not experience it or a few that did but didn't have a favourable experience while at it to call for it scrap. However, they should not do that without looking at the gains over the years. It may not have have eradicated disunity as envisaged, that I will is due not other external factor beyond the schemes control.

Many rural communities in Nigeria either in the North, East or South; have the NYSC as their major source of recruiting teachers
both for public or private schools. They have few permanent teachers that most time are exhausted with work load and as such are not able to go round the classes. Guess what would be the fate of those student if there were no "Corpers".

The NYSC as a scheme has not only helped some young minds in some of those communities to dream but also helped them with the determination of achieving those dreams of becoming a "Corper" becoming whatever they desire as they saw in their "Corper". Many children in some of these rural communities developed some ambitions or even get serious with their studies because they want to be like Corper A or because they want to put on that NYSC Uniform.

Lots of graduates from Nigeria universities come out very empty and half baked. If you doubt this, a trip to the orientation camp "where Corpers in the camp who are believed to be graduates begs soldiers that are believed to be Secondary Sch Leavers to help them write application for pass" will open your eyes. NYSC has helped to shape up some of them, with teachings on the go and corrections from real life experiences before their search for Jobs.

So many Nigerian youths/students apart from those whose parents are in the Military, Security and Federal Government agencies have not/do not travel far from their vicinities. Hence it is very easy for people that have not even gotten any experience about other parts of the country or those with hidden agendas to bamboozle them with concocted lies and negative personal opinions opinions sometimes. NYSC with its mandatory status have corrected lots of these misconceptions and negativities peddled around by opening the eyes of these youths as they go out to serve.

Federal Government Institutions (colleges, monotecnics, polytechnics and universities) are created for similar purpose, uniting Nigerians but the major avenue that Nigerians of all tribes, from all parts; states, schools; state schools, federal schools and even Nigerians that studied abroad, rich or poor e.t.c gather together in the name of Nigeria is through the NYSC scheme.

Also, the NYSC monthly "allowee" as it is called may seem meagre. However, a lot of people that hitherto would not have had what to survive on after school, do not only survive on it but also garner savings of which after service is either used as capital to begin business with or funds to sustain themselves in the labour market before landing a job.

In Nigeria today, both public and private job openings require experiences and recommendations /reference of which applicants may not have had any opportunity or chance at. NYSC has not only opened the capabilities of many graduates/intending applicants to referees and employers but have in some cases offered them the required experience to kick start the job.

There are enough more to good things to say about the NYSC like opening a "Corpers" eyes to certain businesses or ways of doing such businesses that may not have existed the his/or previous environment and all that. And provision of nationalist ad-hoc staff for national duties like conducting of elections e.t.c

It is my belief therefore that, the NYSC is still very practicable and will continue to be for a very long time if allowed and restructured. However, the general insecurity in the country has not helped matters when it concerns the NYSC and all other aspect of the society in general. This has caused fear in the minds of many parents and intended Corpers alike. It is thus very pertinent to restructure the scheme to suit the present security situation of the country.

I've never heard of people publicly speaking bad of dead people, so I guess he's only flattering him.
A coas that seemed clueless?
Under him Bh and Iswap occupied vast swathes of land in the NE and publicly recruited and shared cash and even conducted prayers?
A man that started deductions of 10k from each non-commissioned officer's salary for an imaginary housing scheme?
Under him blind airstrikes conducted in areas in the south that weren't war zones?

I don't know if proud has changed meaning or who the Nigerians you meant are but I think this man really underperformed.
There was nothing that was happening under him that just began... The bombardment of Nnamdi Kanu's House that led to his eventual disappearance even while he was still being tried that led to the eventual forming of ESN was not under his charge. The Endears protest and the dispersal of the protesters that eventually culminated into the looting of warehouses and burning of police stations and other infrastructures did not happen under his charge. All these things happening are what he came to meet in the office and he was trying to address them. He has spent only 4 months on duty and you expect that he would have already achieved a result that his 6 years predecessor could not achieve.... It doesn't work that way bro. Even though I do not believe in comparison, there is no way he would have performed any magic with in the 4 months.

Yes, the men will always cry fowl if anything is to temper with their money. But majority of them even after staying in a free barracks house with government paying for almost everything will still not have the discipline to save money and achieve a one room building after service. If they have such discipline nobody will come and want to do that for them. At least since Yar'adua soldiers are relatively well paid. If in doubt ask other government workers especially the civil servants what their salaries looks like and you will appreciate that.

How do you know that the planned deduction of N10,000 is imaginary when he did not even stay alive to complete his tenure. He did not stay to see the deduction and the project achieved.. So there is no way you will know if he would have done that or not...

Whatever parameters you decide to use, the time frame is not enough for you to say he underperformed.

For me, the discovery of this thread and all other investment threads I visit on Nairaland was intentional while looking for something on investment. I did not stumble on any. I also do not go around cajoling people or trying to convince people to invest on what they know nothing about or are not ready to invest in. Except someone ask or I am privy to new information for those already invested, trying invest or I need some information. I don't just trying to convince people for anything. So to me, however good that asset class is, once you try to shove it down people's throat, it is a red flag.

My brother, this is not even about naira vs crypt0 or crypt0 vs other investments... It's just about folks letting others be... It would be childish for me to continually pull up NSE that have dumped recently and start saying look at how this one lost money e.t.c. some stocks lost over 50% in a week or two and yet everyone is silent... But once it's crypt0, people start bringing up funny pictures..

Few years back, I bought a piece of land in a area which was seemingly fast developing. Another reason I bought was cos it seemed there'd be some government input coming to the area... Of late, someone closeby who sold did so at a loss... I didn't start goading him.

I love to diversify... But as tricky as investing can be and off all the stuff I invest in, if I was asked to name some that I could with some degree of certainty say I can buy today and in the next 2-3years, easily liquidate for profit, bitc0in would be top on that list... Worse still, I can stake it at 7% pa and let in cool down

Regarding, the naira, it's our national currency and difficult to criticize...but when Emiefele started his magic, I simply converted my naira to stable coyns and market price... Around that time, people were looking for where and how to buy dollars. If I wanted to, I could equally stake it for about 7% pa and also not bother about volatility in naira or crypt0...

The crypt0 market has grown to almost 2 trillion dollar market cap. Whether I invest or not means nothing to the market.... Same also with our opinions
Since nobody should talk about Crypt0 loss then would please stop littering this thread with discussions about it. People talk about loss in every class of investment all the time..when treasury bill was crashing it was talked about and people were mocked about it here nobody died. Go to stock market thread and see how PETER and Loco were mocked for Transcorp shares recently..yet people hear word.

In stock market thread, lots of people with genuine intentions are sometimes vilify for wrong call or even right call that did not get mature immediately. Yet we hear word...

When some of you guys bring the matter about Crypt0 trying to make it seem like anybody that didn't or haven't invested in it is a looser..You don't see anything wrong with it. Now it is shedding weight and you don't want people to talk..

What then is so special about Crypt0 that it's loss shouldn't be talked about?

Please you guys should stop littering this thread with Crypt0 issues

First of all, hope you are aware that Stanbic have changed the receiving accounts for their mutual funds? If you have been operating with them for upto a year, just check your email inbox for the message from them from December, 2020 to January, 2021.

EducationRe: Why Do Some Nigerians Think Being A Male Nursing Student Is An Abomination???!!! by freeman67: 8:41am On May 17, 2021
JBRichard:
I am a student studying nursing in Nigeria. I got a lot of recommendations and commendations when I settled down for this course. I was bred up to be a Medicine and Surgery student. I was advised to choose this because it's professional and not lengthier and can end up with a good job abroad or even here by God's grace. Plus as it stands now, I don't want to waste so much time in school in order to settle down and get a good job and do something for myself.

But when people hear of my course the somehow fumble. I get belittled. I am a guy.... Is there something wrong with studying this or should I change??
I wanted to study Biochem but I was chastised against it huh

Because I'm starting to wonder why I don't see male nurseshuh..... I met one man and he eyed me from top to bottom. Another individual said I don't know what I want to become.
Another shouted ABOMINATION!!!!! grin
I've already gained admission oooo....
I'm bewildered....
Haven't seen male nurses in Naija before....
Chineke!!!
I will tell you what I told a friend's cousin that became a friend back then. He was in a nursing school visiting us in the uni and his complain was very similar to yours. I have always known there are male nurses right from childhood because there was one in a hospital close to our house and he was liked by everyone. So I advice my friend to be proud of his Course. He should concentrate and finish with good grades and the sky will be his starting point.

He continued with his course, finished and went to China where he later studied Medicine and from there to the UK for further studies.

Do not give too much thoughts to irrelevant side talks that will never add anything good to you but will instead dampen your morale. All you have to do is concentrate, finish with very good grades and have a very good practical knowledge of it too. With that you are then free to fly..

Nothing much to analyse there really. One man's comfort is another man's lack. DSTV premium subscription for a month is about N18,400.. Some people subscribe it and still add extra money for other package such as hdd/extra views for their other room and even French or Asian and on/ touch extra packages which could amount to about N24,600 while others use GoTV & startime then subscribe minimum (GoTV) and some do not even have any cable TV at all yet they are comfortable with the situation.

Some people go to Buka in Transcorp Hilton, Dunes, javenik, etc just to take breakfast, lunch or dinner as it pleases them while others are ok with mama Chidinma N300 per plate or small roasted yam. All of them see it as comfortable accorfing to their pocket.

Some people can make do with Aboki bread of N100 and be ok while others are not even ok with normal family loaf but instead will go for fruit bread.

To still burst out bubble as desirable as private schools seem these days, government schools are still filled up. Infact lots of them still requires good grades and strong connections to be admitted.

People leave in an environment where they have their own duplexes house about 16 ACs or more washing machines, Electric Cookers and other heavy appliances in their house with at least 30KVA gen and above.. you can imagine the Electricity bills and diesel bills. Some may only afford a 1,2 or 3 bedroom.

People build it 1,000 sqm in maitama, asokoro, Wuse 2 ,Katampe Extension, wuye , guzape etc... While others will enter mpape, Orozo etc to build on 200sqm.

Bills most times comes to you as the society and people around you sees you.

Also, do not underestimate the power of contribution for those that believe in it. In civil/public service a lot of people with meagre salary and without means of looting/stealing still achieve things with it.

Many people did not just get married and start having children before work or immediately they get employed. Some would have designed a pattern to save and invest with their salary no matter how meagre and getting a head way before marriage.

So, that the loud majority can not cut their coat according to their cloth does not mean people are not achieving more with little...
