Mygirl, the UK is institutionally racist no doubt but so also is US and even Nigeria! Its one of the challenges that we all have to deal with but in the midst of these challenges if you're proactive, open and tough you can weather the storm. So no need comparing the 2 countries there are Brits who have migrated to the US and there are Yanks who have crossed over to the UK.

You will find that its only big organisations that will do that for you, don't get me wrong I have friends who do contract jobs where they are paid 200- 500 pounds per day but a large number of Nigerians work in call centres or take up customer service roles in my own opinion that's crap because many of them should be able to get better jobs

Even graduate Brits do call centre job, its called competition mate. Also why would you expect employers to help renew your visa when there are many Brits who can do your job? Don't tell me employers in the US get visa for every tom d1ck and Harry with no special skills. Nationally/locally there were many writers but because their work were not written in English so you may not know. For instance Yoruba writers like Dr DO Fagunwa is very popular even till today. There will be similar writers too in Igboland, Hausa land and all across Africa.

Thank you, some people believe they are the mouthpiece of Prof Achebe just because they are Igbo. Achebe himself rejected the idea because he find it ridiculous but some people want to tag him by force.
We as Nigerians can come together and award Achebe the father of Nigerian literature, that can be compared to the English award to Shakespeare ( which is even debatable). The English didn't regard Shakespeare as the father of European literature because they simply can't do that as there are other literature icons from other European countries that his people may believe he's better than Shakespeare.
African literature is rich and had existed for centuries even before either Soyinka or Achebe were born so how can you call someone a father of what has existed before him?
