I may not live in Ibadan, but I can project the demands of the people. But I'm not about satisfying the needs of the people for today, it's all about the future, and that's where your mind should be. The fact that there was an illegal market there previously does not make this canopy shed anymore appealing. If we must achieve the future we want to see, then we must start working towards that. First of all remove all thoughts of tribalism from this discussion and let's look at it objectively. You may be impressed, but I'm not. Someone in Abuja wouldn't be, someone in Lagos wouldn't be either.

Thank you for your concern but truly we don't need it! I was born and bred in Ibadan and I lived in the ring road area for nearly 8 years and I understand why the market is necessary.
You don't develop an economy by building big malls but by empowerment of people especially the working class and the middle class. Already there are supermarkets around challenge area to cater for the middle class, a lot of young people who are unemployed has been akin out a living by selling petty stuffs around the area, this development is ensure that they are accommodated within a confined area without causing disruption to flow of traffic. Although under a normal government this type of facility should be provided by local authorities and not by the state and shouldn't be used for political propaganda. But having said that its better than just sending these traderd parking without providing any alternatives.
As I stated earlier even in developed economies, there are markets of this type to cater for the people who needs them. In the UK we have markets like these which are open only on certain days of the week and some traders even display their wares in the open but as it is within the confinement of the market its absolutely fine.
I agree with you that we have to demand more from our govt but truly Rome was not built in a day and Oyo doesn't have the kind of resources that Akwa Ibom have so lets go slow and steady surely we'll get there.

There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism, and mind you I'm not a fan of Ajimobi, in fact I criticised him when he introduced the free bus for Oyo state workers and students because I believe its not sustainable and benefits only the few. I have also criticised him for demolishing shops without providing alternatives but on this occasion I cannot but praise him for his thoughtfulness because once this mall is opened any traders caught selling on the road in that area deserves whatever punishment he gets.

Okija juju: I don't need google to know what grocery markets and flea markets look like my guy. I have lived in all these places you listed and more and can tell you that neither the UK, U.S, France, Italy or Canada builds crap like this except its like bus park or something like that.

I have also set a vision 2020 - 2030 goal which I hope we can achieve. And in this future, markets like this is what I want to see at the lowest grassroot villages, not Ibadan or any other major city.

What types of market are you talking about? I have lived in the UK for nearly a decade, being to other parts of Europe and North America local malls meant to sell groceries are built like sheds there's no need to build a world class mall for the purpose of serving people within a particular area.
The mall is meant to serve people living around ring road/challenge/felele area, already these people operates illegal market around challenge especially in the old total petrol station, the idea is to move them to scout camp and free that area from these traders activities.

The problem with you and your liked is once you harbour hatred against someone you can never see anything good in what they do. You do not live in Ibadan neither do you know the demand of the people local to the area yet you deem it fit to criticise what you know nothing about, I just hope you're not like this in real life.

Afam4eva: The good thing about America is that the perpetrators will be brought to book and these things are rare. But in the UK, it's a different thing. First and foremost, nobody will even release a video for us to see things like this and the system won't do anything to bring the perpetrators to book. I remember how a Nigerian guy was recently killed in a UK prison and nobody seems to be forthcoming with any information. As for Nigeria, it's a worse version of the UK. here, not only will the women be beaten, she may be r.aped and even killed.

There's no denying the fact that black guys are on top of the league when it comes to crime especially violent ones, why this is so I don't know. I usually watch a programme titled 'gangland' on CI, the kind of crimes that these criminals commit are heinous and unimaginable, may be that explains the reason why USA police are brutal, its the kind of people they deal with.

The support might be limited to mother at first, then the cousins and aunts come along, usually followed by the male family members. I understand your point but these progressive modern families are not many, even the so called educated ones still practice the same tradition of inbreeding. The males are over protective of their females, I know a Pakistani girl that was threatened with death by his family members for dating a half caste guy. She showed me some of the texts and they are damn too scary, she was told she is sacred and shouldn't date just anyone. I swear to you there are far better looking Pakistani girls than this one but she is fine too.
