PoliticsSule Lamido Is Performing Well {pics Incl} by Gekko(op): 11:33pm On Jan 10, 2010
I think we need to give credit where credit is due, Sule Lamido is one of the best performing gov in NGA.  We often shower praises on Fashola, but i think Jigawa state is one of the best governed states after bumping into this article:

We can gather DIY Instructables, for instance, youths in Brazil are using GPS phones to map their neighborhoods.

I am particularly interested in discussing ideas to combat corrupt police officers.  We can use mobile technology/Internet to expose officers requesting bribes.

@Beaf,
I have not communicated your request to the Admin, in the main time, i am thinking it through.

@zeagu   Do you think so?
I will be reading the comments closely provided it doesn't get swept by other Threads,
We most absolutely need a portal where ideas can be shared and eventually materialize to the benefit of Nigeria.

Am I overreacting or do we have some cowards in the National Assembly.  I remember when when OBJ was pursuing a third term agenda and he was shut down cold.  Why can't these Grade A douchebags stand up against Yaradua?

but that's what gets votes in countries like Nigeria and kenya. It pays them to keep Nigerians ignorant.
So,at what point does it end? How can we turn the pages? Things can't continue like this forever.

I'm not saying that Nigeria is at that stage. I'm saying that defending against things like that will be less likely to happen under the current Nigeria than in a southern nigeria country.

Most of the current leaders don't care, but if there was a southern nigeria country that fought to secede, there would be a greater chance that the new leaders would be those with some sense of national pride. Keep in mind that most of the current people didn't win election fair and square so they are not the kind of people that wanted to win in order to better the lives of the citizens.
I get where you coming from but we shouldn't be so quick to throw away the baby with the bath water.  I rather live to experience an unified Nigeria prosper than a separation.

the only solution to such extremism is secular education and poverty alleviation.

what does yemen and nigeria have in common? poverty and illiteracy.   It would be wrong to attack Islam considering Islamic countries like turkey are peaceful.
I agree wholeheartedly. And this can only work if political and religious leaders of the North start being honest with their counterparts.
They need to demystify their message and stop spreading fears and fantasies to individuals in the North.

What's to prevent suicide bombing to begin now. People already get killed like animals. At least when the south is on its own the govt. may take some action to try to protect its citizens. If suicide bombing began now, the Nigerian govt. won't do anything. So, might as well have a govt. that will try to look after its citizens.
I'm sorry but there is no indication that our current leaders in the south care for its citizens.

What economic implications are you talking about? Nigeria is lagging in investments. The main place that has many investments in Lagos  while other places have just a few. Investments in the south will multiply if the northern and southern territories were separate because southerners really want to westernize.  Think of the way North and South Korea are. They used to be one nation but once they split, South Korea was able to become a technology hub and one of the worlds strongest economies. The south has more to gain than lose by separating.

We are already living in the same country will these people with violent tendencies. By separating we can at least employ some national defense to protect us instead of the current situation where they are free to roam around Nigeria and kill.
What kind of national defense is going to protect you from a suicide bomber?

At first I was furious with America's high-handedness applied to this situation, but like someone said in another thread our government has been terrorizing the Nigerian people for years, we don't even have a leader to make a plea on our behalf. This is another wake up call.

I wouldn't say my source but you guys are pushing me, My source is an extended family member (nuff said).

Listen and listen good people, He is dead, i wouldn't have believed it myself but then i thought of the possibility and also considered the fact that my source is a family member.
He also told me that his wife and first daughter went to the holy ground to pray for him and after that, went on an EXPENSIVE SHOPPING SPREE

I have no evidence to offer, i am sorry, but i am not the one in Saudi Arabia and i am not the family member, its a shocking news but we have to accept it in good fate and await the next president.
They went on a expensive shopping spree soonafter his death, come on, no really come on!!
PoliticsRe: Is This The End Of This Regime? by Gekko(m): 9:19pm On Jan 02, 2010
Prayer? are u serious? We have been praying for decades and change hasn't arrived.

The only thing is thats going to work is if the masses put foot to ground and march in large numbers.

Only then we will put the fear of God in minds of corrupt politicians. However, they underestimate us and know we wont do squat, therefore business will continue as usual.

Even as i detest and feel ashamed of this incident, the comments here is just disgusting to read. Someboday says 1.7 billion people should be wiped out the surfce of the earth because they are all flipping terrorist.  If they really are what will it take 1 person to terminate 5 or 6 people (6 Bilion is world population) and pronto only muslims will be left on earth as that is what our religion preaches.

Ignorance is desease and intellectual laziness to research is even a crime.

We have had american citizens as terrorist , Caucascian, black, latino, muslims christians and jews alike so what is the fuss all about.
A terrorist is a terrorist regardless of his background. Opportunist who hate islam are having a great time dissing the faith but your arm chair dissing will not go beyond your room and have no effect.

A Nigerian commits a crime and we are attributing a tribe to him str8 away , who bloody cares what state is from and how does the world differentiate this? Does his passport state he his from Enugu state?

This guy doesnt seem like any AQ member to me, he probably acted on his own, the speed of his confession and terrorist attempt shows his mediocrity in the act.

On a side note Obama should rethink his foreign policy as i dont think the US will know any rest until those US soldiers all around the world are withdrawn into american soil again, and Palestinians given a state. Then lets see what excuse AQ will have to perpertuateor justify any attacks

Last week about seven drones killed scores of civilians in Pakistan, somebody tell me if that is not a terrorist attack as well, only that it is state terrorism. Hundreds of civilians are killed and no one raises an eye brow all beacuse they are some silly pakistani muslims anyway. pakistanis prefers killing themselves in fights to US drones killing them that is what they say.

Somebody please tell me this is not comming from a literate person who actually read the 2 books.
GOD BLESS YOU!!

Now we have someone blaming America because a lunatic with a Nigerian passport tried to blow up a plane - how amazing!. Why I am very angry is because this slowpoke choose Christmas day to pull a silly stunt like this.

Fortunately, the US will treat this case like it should - a terrorist case and not a national case. Since 9/11, the US has not stopped issuing visa to Pakistanis, Saudis or Egyptians. They will get to the root of the problem and we will find out why this happened.

Unfortunately, the harm has been done. My jujitsu trainer was the one that called me to tell me because he knew I grew up in Nigeria. As an ex army officer, his experience with Nigerians around the world had not been good; and this incident confirmed another one - how sad.
Are referring to my earlier comment?  Please get off your high-horse, you and your jujitsu trainer can round-kick rocks.

If you set a house on fire its likely to burn, thats a mini lesson in cause and effect.  Which was why i made my earlier comment.

Gekko:
At the end of the day, when you dig really really deep and get to the root of the issue you will find that America is at fault.

Godspeed!
What goes around comes around and we are all culpable.   While you are looking at this at a very micro point of view and only
seem to be concerned with how this affects your tiny little world, I rather look at the big picture.  Innocent people get hurt everyday because
of decisions made by slowpokes in power all over the world.

This event cant possibly make things any worse than it is for the real sufferers in Nigeria.

I am happy the mission failed and those folks on the plane made it home alive.

I watched this programme as well and Madam rebrand excuse was that she wasn't present when the contract was initiated, her role was merely forwarding the contract to the president from the parastatal. She basically admitted how culpably careless she handled this matter. This is what happens when you try to fit a round peg in square hole.

I don't live in Oyo state but the name (and face and bling and agbada, and yes, Tura) Alao Akala is not new to me. I remember some time ago, my friends and I were discussing government in Nigeria when the name, Alao Akala came up. Someone said, "that guy has got to be the worst office holder in the whole country. He doesn't even have simple courtesy. The other day, I watched a show where he was being interviewed and the journalist asked him a question that was obviously to his discomfort, something about his achievements in the state. He just looked at the journalist pointedly for a few seconds and said, "ko ni da fun e for that question". The journalist quickly changed question". We laughed and laughed. Seems like the guy deserves the award hands up and down.
Wow!, did he actually say that to a journalist, the man lacks proper decorum. What else do you expect from a baboon like ALAO-AKALA. tongue
